Good day to all. Hope this finds you all well and safe and healthy.
I want to thank you all for your kind words and heartfelt sympathies on my special post yesterday and on Sunday's post. It means the world to me. You have no idea how special it is to know so many people care.
Yes, I am sad, but I am at peace knowing where she now is and that we will see each other again. Again, THANK YOU!
How are your gardens doing? Whether you have an in-ground garden or pots of goodies growing, I hope they are all doing well.
I had to laugh when I read the above meme - it is so true. I remember back in the day, everyone left their vehicles unlocked - and there would get to be a time that people would start locking them, as they had had their fill of zucchini being 'donated' by others!
Things around here are just starting to take off and produce some goodies. Some may be ahead of the game; it all depends on when they planted. Rain and warmth have really made things shoot up here.
I have picked one zucchini and one teeny-tiny yellow squash (well it fell off). There are lots of blooms on the squash, but they are all male. Fingers crossed. I have bananas peppers and get a handful of cherry toms every couple days. Lettuce has bolted and it is cut back and I still have green onions. My cukes are growing and blooming like crazy. I am so excited, I sure hope I get some this year. I planted very old seed in a pot this year. I haven't had any luck with cukes for several years for some reason.
There has been lemon balm, mint and basil. Now I have started learning about and using poke.
The grapes are loaded this year.
Just one little corner of the arbor. They are hanging thick out there. I hope I get some before the critters get them when they ripen. I have picked rhubarb a few times. It is amazing what a SINGLE seed can produce and how much we can receive from it to nourish our bodies. Just AMAZING to me. Think about how tiny a tomato seed is - and you get a plant that produces so much and for most of the summer. A single zucchini seed - and all the squash you get.
The world and nature sure are awesome.
So what do you have growing at your house? I sure hope everyone tries to garden at some point. There is nothing like walking out into the yard and getting some of your 'grow'ceries fresh as can be.
Keep your eyes open for wild grapes, or fruit trees that no one tends or uses. You can probably get some great free goodies. Barter with neighbors for fresh garden goods. They may need a yard mowed or trimmed, or maybe they would love a homemade cake, or a jar of fresh jelly. There is always a way to barter and to glean.
I love this time of the year for all the FRESH goodies to be had.
Don't forget about local farmers - often times, farmers set up stands and charge less than one might get at a farm market.
I would love to be out mowing the back right now, but it is so dewy out there. Everything is just so damp. It is cooler this morning and just lovely. I have been out to feed the babes and spent some quiet time outdoors. I just love the quiet and calm of mornings.
It is going to get in the mid 80's again today - not bad. Humidity is still around.
Right now, fresh air is coming in the house and cleansing my air! I love the windows open.
I hope you all have a wonderful day and thank you for being my friend!

I am so glad you were able to spend time with her and talk to her before she passed. That makes things a bit easier to not have anything left unsaid. I know you will miss her, but I am happy to hear that you feel at peace.
ReplyDeleteMy gardens are all doing very well so far this year. I did have something eat my three poblano plants but that is ok. I will be able to make pesto for the freezer this weekend with the first round of basil. I always plant two rounds to make sure I have enough. I don't want to go through a winter without basil and pesto.
Have a peaceful day my friend. Hugs.
Me too Lori. She had such a long and good life. She accomplished much. She was a strong woman, she had buried 2 children, 2 grandchildren and 2 husbands. Faith and strength was tremendous in her. That gives me much peace for her.
DeleteGlad your gardens are doing well. Seems something gets a plant every year! You know I have never had pesto - I still need to make that. I keep hearing great things about it. I do love my basil in cooking. I wish you great success.
Thank you!
Miss Lori is so right...it is much easier to let a loved one go if there is nothing left unsaid. No regrets, only good memories and love.
ReplyDeleteYou have lots of grapes! Just hope the four-legged varmints don't get them. I don't think we got any grapes...the racoons ate them all. The Farmer cut the vines down and I made wreaths. We were out early to do some things in the garden and it was damp feeling. I picked red raspberries, enough for my breakfast and some to freeze, as I do every morning. The Farmer got some giant blackberries, which are slow to ripen. We are well blessed with cucumbers and have one yellow squash about ready to pick. I counted several ears of corn. The Farmer built a shaded area for the peppers, which don't do well in scorching sun. Nor do tomatoes. He watches the Millennial Gardener on YouTube and gets lots of good information from him, things we didn't know after years of gardening.
Cheryl, my heart and prayers are with you.
There are so many grapes out there - the most I have seen in ages. Seems my biggest culprits are always the birds. But yep, there are coons around too.
DeleteHow nice to pick berries every morning - what a treat. I hope I get cucumbers - so many blooms. You sure are getting some good eating from the yard!
My garden is in the sun almost all day - and I always have plenty!
Thank you so much.
"I do not believe that sheer suffering teaches. If suffering alone taught, all the world would be wise, since everyone suffers. To suffering must be added mourning, understanding, patience, love, openness and the willingness to remain vulnerable." - Lindberg
ReplyDeleteKind regards at the death of your sister.
That is a very true quote. We learn from ALL the experiences in life and then hopefully we can teach as well.
DeleteThank you so much.
I did not check your site yesterday, so I did not know. Much sympathy. That last visit was a blessing for sure. You know where she has gone, and she's not alone. Comfort to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteMy garden is late. I now have deer trying out things. They've eaten the blooms off my phlox.... The only thing so far that has not been touched is the parsley and it is going great guns. :)
MaryB
Thank you so much Mary, I appreciate it.
DeleteThose pesky deer - they do love to eat all the goodies. I am really glad to not have to worry about that here.
I do hope you get some goodies and not just feed the deer!!!
It is the middle of winter here, soo cold.. But my orange and lemon trees are producing beautifully. I don't do anything to look after them other than water in the summer, but the oranges are so tasty now.
ReplyDeleteGardening is hit and miss for me, some things turn out well in the summer and some just disappear, probably eaten by creatures
