Weekly Wrap Up 7/12

Hello to all and happy Sunday.  I hope you are all well and safe.
It is a balmy 71* here this morning.  Looks to be in the 80's range and probably dry.  Yesterday was anything but dry here!  Goodness sakes did my area get hit with rain.  Got about 3" in about an hour and a half.  Boy, did it come down hard.  I did get a couple of trickles in the basement this time - nothing bad - but that hasn't happened in a long time.  Dehumidifier going and a fan going - and just about dry this morning.
Looks like another hot week coming up - in the 90's, but they say the humidity will not be as bad this time.  Looks like no more chances of rain for a good while.  I kind of hope for cloudy days - that always helps a bit.

My sister's funeral has been set and will be Thursday.  So many people were out of state and had to wait for them.  I keep wanting to call her and talk!  Funny how that works.

Look closely and you can see 2 bright yellow gold finches on the flowers (upper and lower).  They are so beautiful.  Enjoying nature's bounty!

My frugal week:
  • I did run out and buy a watermelon on sale - it sure has been good.  Only time I went out this week
  • Deadheaded the lilies out back and cleaned the fence row
  • Mowed and trimmed the entire yard
  • Cleaned up leaves and the squirrel fall under feeders
  • Paid a couple bills by phone
  • Another day - finished deadheading all the lilies in the perennial bed and cleaned weeds
  • Staked a couple of tomato plants - and weeded between rows some
  • Laundry using dehumidifier water and hung to dry
  • AC off as much as possible - usually mornings
  • Made more hummer feed
  • I made several bean and rice burritos and put in freezer
  • Thawed and cooked a pound of sausage into patties and froze many of them
  • Rain barrels are full again!
  • Cleaned out the storm drain again 2 doors down.  No one else seems to worry about it, but it needs cleaned to let water flow off street
  • Picked more cherry tomatoes and banana peppers.  Had 2 smaller green tomatoes fall of during the storm yesterday - so will be using them for fried!
Meals this past week:
Beef/broccoli w/gravy over rice
l/o over beef and broc. and l/o pasta salad
Grilled bean/rice burritos and salad
BLT, fruit
Cheesy tots, BBQ smokies and sliced cuke
Eggs, sausage and fruit
Dbl. cheeseburger and chunky veg salad and hard-boiled eggs

Nothing exciting, just keeping busy.  It was nice to get outside and work some.  Also working seems to help relieve some stress.  That was needed this week.

How has your week been?  Any good deals or garden harvest?
I surely hope you and yours are all well.  Hope you all have a good week ahead.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

Dear Lord, thank You for all our blessings and thank You for loving us.  Help us each get through our trials and sadness in things that happen and help us each to stay close to You and do Your will.  Prayers for healing for all that are in need, whether physical, spiritual or mental.  May we each go forward and reflect Your love in all we do.  AMEN

  1. We also had a lot of rain yesterday, which is always good, but I like it when it comes with no storm damage too. I'll be keeping you in good thoughts & prayers for sister's funeral. I see the finches, those are beautiful birds. We picked up some melons this week to along with some peaches and black grapes. I l love those yummy summer fruits. I hope you have a wonderful Lord's day, Cheryl.

    1. I agree - rain without the damaging winds and lightening is much better. Yesterday was mainly rain. They are just the sweetest little birds - so vibrant in color.
Melons and peaches and grapes all sound wonderful - all my summer favorites. Enjoy!
      Thank you so much.
      Have a lovely week.

  3. We have had our typical summer weather, 90's and humid. But the garden is looking good. Butch might be getting a tomato for a sandwich pretty soon! The new neighbors have been moving in, we haven't met them yet. I picked up some nectarines yesterday, they are so sweet for eating. I was going to try to see if I can, can some of them. I hope you have a Blessed day.

    1. I guess this is becoming typical here as well! Oh lucky Butch!!!! I so look forward to that first ripe tomato. Tell him to savor every bite!!! I know he will.
I bet those were tasty. I never seem to get those that seem really ripe. I bet they would can fabulously.
Thank you and you have a blessed week my friend.

  4. Excellent devotional! The Father hates pride. Your prayer is very uplifting!

It will be good for everyone to celebrate your sister's life. Some people opt not to even acknowledge the one who passed. My oldest brother did not have any sort of recognition. I am guessing this what something he and his wife had discussed beforehand. They were not religious even in the most casual sense. It just seemed very unfinished.

That was quite a rain we had! Every three days would be ideal to have a nice, gentle rain. However, that is not in my wheelhouse...ha! Finches are such cute little birds. We saw a hummer in the backyard the other day. Today is nice and sunny. Think I'll go out and tackle another large bag of sticks to shred. Everything is set up under the large maple tree, so it will be comfortable.

Enjoy your day! See you on Tuesday!

    1. Thank you. I do not like funerals but I do enjoy the communion of all the relatives, many you don't see any other time. It seems that many only get together at bad times.
I know many that have no service as well. I can understand that, but at least think some sort of memorial is appropriate just for memories, stories and a since of good-bye.
Boy it was a rain for sure! I nice soft rain every few days would be lovely - wish that could happen.
I have hummers come to the feeders every day - glad you got to see one in the yard.
It is such a lovely day. The kitties were all playing out back most of the morning - then both neighbors started mowing (thank goodness!!!). Now they are in hiding. They love being out playing in the nice mornings and evenings. I still have windows open as of right now.
      Have a lovely week.

  5. We've been having rain. Enough that we did not travel to a singing 2 hours away. The destination was under a Flood Watch! This morning I went out to check my rain gage, because there'd been rain every day for several days, sometimes hard. 3/4 inch? Hmm. Not so much. Wandered around in the drizzle and looked at the garden beds. Under the trees was *dry*! Guess the rain wasn't as hard as I thought, or as it sounded. Plenty of thunder though! ;)

Best wishes for your sister's funeral. Family events of that sort can sometimes go sideways and that's just horrid. People are not at their best. Hope the weather cooperates.

    1. I love the nice gentle rains - those are perfect in my opinion. They seem to help the gardens the most. I hope your garden is loving it.
Our family is usually pretty good about these things. I would say most everyone gets along well. It is predicted to be 93* and dry that day.
      Have a blessed week.

  6. No rain here yet today, yesterday it was off and on. Just enough to keep me inside because I can't do yard work in the rain.
I have been outside this AM, running the weed eater a bit at a time.
DD's garden is doing great, which is a blessing because mine is a total bust this year.....planted twice and no germination. I may forego planting a garden and just garden down the road at their house as I live in a woods and the taller the trees get the less sunlight on the garden. It's fine the kids have been saying forever that they grow plenty. I just like the idea of "doing my part".
I hope your sisters funeral brings connection and moments of joy thinking back on her life.

    1. You must have been in the hot or miss area. They said many wouldn't get a drop - we got your share!
It sure is a lovely morning.
I am so sorry your garden has been a bust - but glad your daughter has plenty and will share. A community garden of sorts! You could always go and help out - if you need to do something. You can always try again next year.
Thank you so much. Just being together will help.
      Have a fantastic week.

  8. Another week in the books and only 14mm of rain. There was water in the basement sump hole for the first time in 25 yrs. It's not often that you here rural people say enough rain, but "ENOUGH!" I visited with maternal cousins at a nearby lake this past wk & attended a paternal cousin's wedding this weekend. It was a family reunion of sorts. Time has been taken up with the televised Calgary stampede & chuckwagon races for the past 9 days; finals today. Grass has been cut & trimmed yet again. Now I need to do some repair (translation: I need to find a guy for that), The potatoes were hilled; the peas are starting to bloom. My son & his partner came for an overnight visit & to pick up his repaired truck after the moose collision. I enjoyed the first cherries of the season. Sale prices on pork ribs, steak, bacon. In the kitchen: chicken Asian noodles; rice salad & roasted trout; mini quiches.

Seems there is always something doesn't it?
Sounds like the garden is doing good. Glad the truck is back in good order.
Cherries are so good fresh. Great finds on the meat.
Your kitchen sounds like a yummy place to be.
      Have a special week.

    1. Sorry your weather is so dry. It looks like the day will be hot and dry for the funeral. Yes, it seems when you can't do something, it is when you want it the most. I did that for the longest time with my mom.
      Have a wonderful week.

  10. We only got about half an inch while south of us got 6-7 inches over two days. We're pretty dry again but the humidity is manageable which makes a big difference. Our local watermelons will be ready this week and I can't wait to have one. Have a good week!!
