Hello all. I hope you are all healthy and snug this Thursday. Another cold, cold day here in my neighborhood. It is in the 20's and probably staying in the 20's today.
Yesterday for an hour or two we got a little sunshine, that was so wonderful. It isn't often that happens this time of the year. Today they are saying sun!!! YAY
Well, yesterday I figured it was time to get busy and shop some. So off I went! My road looked ok - but it was atrocious! ICE! I came really close to 'owning' the stop sign at the corner!! I started sliding sideways (even going just a couple mph) - got stopped within inches! Luckily there was no traffic in any direction - usually there is some idiot running the stop sign on any given day. Well, I managed to get to the main road, and all was fine. We have a school and post office within a couple blocks of my house. When I returned the post office area was still horrible, the school area good. Too much excitement for me!
I did go to Aldi and NOT for groceries. I got a lot of neat basket stuffers and some things for kiddos. That MIDDLE aisle is fun!!!! I met so many happy people.
Yesterday while shopping, I saw so many people having fun looking at all the goodies. The oohs and aahhs! Adults and children. The sounds in the voices of the littles - pure joy.
I see snowflakes glistening in the snow - it looks like fairy dust - magic!
I see the twinkling lights on the tree - looks like magic to me.
The way the snow clings to the trees and they look like flocked trees (remember those?).
Memories of being a kid and 'hearing' Santas bells on Christmas Eve.
Seeing children get so excited to see Santa and watching them look at all the lights and decorations with those big wide eyes.
The smells of the holidays - almost seem magical. They can transport you to another time.
Being able to continue a tradition from the family to another generation - and watching them get excited.
Watching the OLD Christmas shows from childhood. Those are the best!!!! I like the old cartoon specials and some of the old, old movies - much better than the new stuff.
Being able to get with friends from back in the day and just laugh and have fun. It seems as if no time has passed!
Watching the young ones seeing the radar on Christmas Eve - to see where Santa is - then leaving cookies and milk.
Being out in the snow (playing or working) and coming into a warm house and hot chocolate - almost seems magical.
TONIGHT!!!!!!! Take a step back in time! Also, next Tuesday! It might just be what you need to laugh a little, to remember the times as a kid, to smile and make believe a little. I hope you watch it!
So take a few minutes or even hours or days to see MAGIC in the season. The smiles, the joys, the beauty - yes, I know it isn't magic - but FAITH and HOPE can seem so at times.
Have a beautiful day.
Take in the moments!

When I was young, Christmas day couldn't come fast enough. As an adult responsible for making the magic, it came way too fast!
ReplyDeleteYes indeed! As a child it seemed like it took forever to get here. Such an exciting time. Then playing out in the snow and building forts and having snowball fights - such fun!
DeleteYou nailed it Cheryl. The Christmas season is magical in so many different ways like the ones you mentioned. December has always been my favorite month for all of these reasons.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you made it home safely. The back roads can be the worst.
It is the little things that seem so magical. I love people watching - it seems to make my day. Reactions can be just so exciting.
DeleteBack roads are always the worst around here. Once off my street it was smooth going. City did a good job.
I’m glad you didn’t hit the Stop sign! Growing up mostly in Florida, I had a few scary car incidents driving in the snow and ice in Virginia.
ReplyDeleteI was glad to give away my snow shovel and ice scraper when I moved back here.
What I especially like is listening to traditional Christmas music. I still have CDs. Frank Sinatra, Big Crosby, Tony Bennett, Andy Williams and Rosemary Clooney are my favorites. One of my favorite Christmas movies is an odd one - Fitzwilly with Dick van Dyke and Barbara Feldon (of Get Smart fame). I have it on dvd because it’s hard to find streaming.
I would gladly give away the shovel and scraper!
DeleteThe older music is great. I like the traditional holiday music too.
I love the animated specials - but not so much the modern remakes. Think Grinch and Scrooge! I just don't get into remakes at all. I do like the Scrooge with George C Scott - but not many other remakes.
I do laugh at the Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation. Glen's favorite was It's a Wonderful Life.
Enjoy those tunes.
Yikes, glad you are okay! Sliding on slick roads is a thrill ride you could do without. The sun is out now and even thought it is cold, it still brightens my day.
ReplyDeleteI was lucky. That is the first time that has happened to me in years, and just a few doors from home!
DeleteI LOVE the sun - such a wonder to behold today!
Ice is so beautiful and so very treacherous. Glad you didn't "own" the stop sign.
ReplyDeleteMy daddy gave me a pink flocked tree one year for my bedroom. I was so happy with it, I tried to save it for the next year, but it was a real tree under that pink and all the needles fell off over the summer.
I need to go with money in hand to buy goodies for the littles. No toys-gifts from me as I'm not sure what they have or what they want, so food treats it is - cashew nuts, chocolate, Pringles chips, things of that sort.
Yes, it's about time for me to break out my Christmas CDs! Such sweet tunes, all good to hum along with. :) I can listen and hum while I do my few Christmas cards - not many now, most of the old folks have died.

Oh I bet that was pretty to see. I think a youngster would try and save it. We had one for our main tree one year - it made quite the mess. It was beautiful, but sure was messy.
DeleteI took cash with me yesterday. Mainly food items and treats and gummies. A couple a squeezables and story books for the youngest.
I need to get my cards done as well. Not nearly as many as in the old days. I agree the music can get one in the spirit. I have a channel on TV that is Christmas music all the time.
I spent the day doing housework, and there was NOTHING magical about that !!!!! I was not organized and ran from room to room starting a million jobs and finishing none. Today I need to be more focused. For example, I pulled out the Christmas tree, began vacuuming under the bed it came out from under, went to the kitchen to the bin and began making banana bread. So... tree is out, but not up, still half a dusty underbed area, but that bread was yummy.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you left that stop sign where it belongs. Take care, Louise.
It will be 'magical' when done!!!!! It seems I make a bigger mess when cleaning sometimes than I had before. You got more done than you are giving yourself credit for.
DeleteMe too. Only by the skin of my chinny chin-chin!!!
What a lovely post!
ReplyDeleteHope you find a little more magic than sadness.
DeleteToday I am going to a Christmas lunch with a group of friends where we exchange gifts under $10 and ideally recycled. It was fun finding something meaningful that any of them will like.
