Angels - Making Them and Loving Them!

Happy Tuesday everyone.  Hope you are all well and safe and warm.  Just think - 2 weeks from today, Christmas will be history in the book of 2023!!!!!  Man, it is flying by.

Today I will show you how to make the kitchen towel angels.  Hopefully it will make since and NOT be clear as MUD!!!!!  LOL
They are very easy - and cost just a little.  I got my towels at Dollar Tree for 1.25 ea.  The potholders were 2/1.25 and the dishcloths were 2/1.25 - so for 2.50 you can make a cute little novelty gift.
I am adding one to a couple of small gifts I give, and I have one ready for my schoolmates' luncheon - for our little gift exchange (adding candy too).  We have a $5 limit for our exchange - they encouraged homemade!

You need one kitchen towel, one dishcloth, one potholder and some ribbon or yarn for each one.
Pick your colors or styles - that kind of coordinate.
Fold your towel lengthwise in half - then accordion each side as shown above.
Once you have folded each side, then fold over as above.  This will be the angel body.
Do the same thing with the dish cloth!  This will be arms!
Scrunch your potholder together in the middle and use ribbon or yarn and tie it to the middle of the washcloth.  The potholder will be the wings.  Make sure you leave the ribbon or yarn longer than needed at this point (it isn't done yet).
Use that same ribbon or yarn and tie the washcloth/potholder to the towel as shown above.  You now have a head, wings and the beginnings of arms.
Pull the washcloth together in front and use another piece of ribbon/yarn and tie together.  That makes the arms.  NOW you have an ANGEL!
Adjust each section to look right to you.  Super simple and cute and inexpensive.  Only takes a few minutes to put together.  A couple of snips and the recipient has a new set of kitchen accessories!!!!
I think it is a cute presentation.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Sunday, I came home from sis's, unloaded the car, changed clothes, and fed the cats.  I came in to sit down in the living room for a minute and use the computer.
I look up and this is what I see!!!  They came in to be with me!
                                                                         MY little angels!
Since then, they have been sleeping out here a lot.  Blackie likes the dining room chairs, I have seen Lil Bit on one too - and last evening I looked out and she was curled up on the couch!  Blackie is not a fan of the 'talking box' (TV) - I guess he thinks it is someone he doesn't know!
Maybe one of these days they will sleep with me!
I sure hope his surgery Thursday, doesn't set the progress back any.

So, there you go - todays subject - angels!
Hope you can figure out my directions above.  Let me know if you have questions.

Have a wonderful day my friends!!!!!

  1. Oh, Cheryl, those angels are AWESOME!!! I'm going to have to try that, because I just LOVE it!!! I also love that your schoolmate's luncheon group encourages homemade at a $5 limit. With that limit you really have to be creative. Wouldn't it be nice if all groups encouraged that?

And your fur angels... I knew they'd come around quickly. :-)
Blackie might run away from you for a few days after the vet appointment, but maybe not. They're warm and comfy inside with lots of new things and places to explore. As for the TV, try nature shows. Anything birds. Jellybean (who looked a lot like Blackie) loved watching nature shows. Lil Bit, too, might be intrigued. Years ago we had a pair of kittens who'd try to bat at the birds or animals on the screen. It was so funny!

Poppy will be off to the vet soon for her spay. Praying it all goes smoothly with no complications. When Blue was spayed, the vet didn't know until the surgery that she was in heat, so she lost a lot of blood. I think that's why they wanted Poppy to be spayed after her 1st heat was over (it is). Then we have to keep the girls away from each other until the stitches come out, because they're rambunctious when they play. Anyway...

Best wishes for all to have a Terrific Tuesday. --Elise

    1. They really are cute and so darn easy to make. Yes, this is our first - grade school holiday get together and we are keeping things simple. Lunch will be at MCL!
That is a good idea on nature shows. Bit loved chasing the birds!!!!!
Hope all goes well with Poppy. They won't understand the separation!
Vet asked if Blackie does much running or chasing indoors and I said no - so he can be around Bit. I just have to keep an eye on him. Soft canned food or dry soaked in water - for a few days - he likes both of those any way!

    2. Do you have pet insurance, Cheryl? We do for both dogs. When we took Poppy for her 1st check up, we bought the "Puppy Package" for $350 that was supposed to cover her shots and spay/neuter. Imagine Hubs' surprise and anger when he dropped her off today and they said it will be $700!! He mentioned the puppy package and today they said it only gives a discount of $25 on the spay. He came home and couldn't find the paperwork for the plan, just the receipt. So... there'll be a call to the pet insurance company and we'll look for a new vet after this. Sheesh!

Our local PetSmart has a clinic every month for low cost vaccines and wellness checks. That will be our go-to for those things now.

But back to the towel angels and low-cost gifts... especially for those of us past a certain age, it just makes sense. Towels and pot holders are useful. Our homes are generally full of enough stuff. Homemade jams, jellies and such are nice, too. Or the soup mixes you do. The old KISS principle works! --Elise

    3. No I do not. Spay and neuters are not quite that bad here. Shots weren't outrageous - but still costly. Now this surgery with bill somewhere between $1,200 and $1,500! Depending on what all they have to remove and clean up.
Yep, you can see why he has become a house cat!

Yes, they would be cute to add to some homemade goodies or just a token gift for workmates or neighbors. Teacher gift, etc. It is something we all use!

    4. Oh my goodness, Elise! That's high! It does pay to call around on things like that, one vet clinic may be high on one thing and low on spays. I'm so sorry, I'm sure ya'll thought with pet insurance it would be no big deal. Geesh is right! I know how it feels, did they do a blood panel without asking you? One vet clinic years ago wanted to charge that because of a blood panel and I said I did not want the blood panel (I changed vets to our now retired vet, I miss that guy). Our vet runs specials on spays, way cheaper than far away clinics but do-able. I'm learning to make sure and tell them to please ask before doing anything. I had a little misunderstanding with Missy's ear infection, and I called and politely expressed my grieving heart on the price. The next time we went in, the doctor was very nice and very reasonable, like old times. I think he got the memo. I pay a little more there, a *little* more but it's close to home and no wait. It was a true God-send with our three poor little angels who went to Heaven recently. When we put poor little Missy to sleep, we had no choice and I was wailing outside in the waiting room (no one was there it was closing time) The sweet young vet came out as we were leaving to bid us goodbye and show respect, he looked like he was about to cry too.

I hope Poppy does good, and you won't have to keep the pups separated for long. : )

Big hugs coming your way! Poor Elise! We love our babies but we don't want to be taken advantage of either right? ~Amelia

Blackie will love not being in the cold - Bit doesn't know about that - but she loves being with him.
      Have a fun day.

  4. Re. fur angels, I forgot to share a funny story with y'all. Anyone who has multiple dogs knows they "play fight" with each other. Sometimes the girls get rambunctious and loud. Last week they did so and I told them to settle down. They stopped for a millisecond and started back up again. In a firmer voice I said, "Girls! What did I just tell you?"
They stopped, looked at me, and when I turned away started whisper play fighting. LOL! It was just like when my sons were little and getting too wild in the house. --Elise

    2. Yes, they are like kids! Mine do that too, I have to be careful the tone of voice I use because they get their feelings hurt and will even stop playing and go suck their thumb so to speak...They are such sensitive doggies.

      How is Poppy? ~Amelia

    3. Poppy is happy to be home, Amelia, and is resting in her crate. Blue is happy to have her home, too, but we have to keep them apart for a short while. Blue got her check up and shots when Hubs went to pick up Poppy. And guess what? The vet's office dropped the price to $588 for both girls today! Did they somehow hear me? Was it the lemon Christmas cookies I sent in? Whatever it was, I'm grateful. We should also get some reimbursement from our pet insurance. --Elise

    4. I'm so glad everything is A-OK! Good news, so sweet that Blue is glad Poppy is home... That's great they lowered the cost and insurance will kick in too. Our vet ran a special and we paid 200 -something for Missy to get spayed. They did a good job.

It sounds like your scrumptious lemon Christmas cookies did the trick! ; ) I just love that...Yes, I'm sure you are grateful in all seriousness. Wonderful. : ) What a gem you are. ~Amelia

  5. Cute gift. How fun that your group sets a limit of $5 to make people get creative. I love it.
Such a cute picture of your cats. I hope Blackie's surgery goes well this week and that he quickly gets back in his new routine.
I feel like we just finished celebrating Halloween so I can't wrap my head around Christmas being less than two weeks away.
    Enjoy your Tuesday Cheryl!!

    1. Thanks - I thought they were cute and useful. I like they set the low limit - it makes it easier for those who don't have a lot. I am sure there are some that struggle.
I know - this year is almost over - just crazy to imagine.

Thanks, I sure hate doing this to him - but he has infection and some teeth need to come out. He will be mad at me for a while!

  8. Your Blackie makes me miss mine who has gone on to his reward. Loved that black cat!
The chickadees made the craft with the gloves that you posted previously. Came out super cute and easy for them to do themselves. We've also decorated gift tags and done the fabric covered Styrofoam ball ornaments. All cute and clever. Thank you for the ideas.

Just read that a certain famous son spent $214,923 In a three-year period for food groceries and restaurants. That's $71,641 per year. That blows my mind. Trying to imagine that kind of food bill....I guess around $200 per day.

  9. Oh Cheryl! Those are ADORABLE. Thank you so much for sharing how to make them! I just love things like this, it's so sweet and also practical too. The recipient will think of you everytime they use the accessories!

It's soooo good to see normal ladies do sweet things for Christmas. Our daughters are adults and do a gift exchange, and it needs to be under $5.00, homemade is good but dollar tree etc. is totally fine too. I will show them this.

I am soooooooooooo loving the kitties!!! Is that not the sweetest thing that they want to be with mommy? Oh my heart! God sent those kitties to you, they are truly fur-angels. Angels. : )

I'll be praying for little Blackie. Poor baby.

    Big hugs to you, ~Amelia

    1. Thanks - I love the idea of gifting an economical gift. Some set the limits high and now that my little 'group' is all seniors - well it just seems right to limit the funds!
They are so sweet. I am a wreck thinking about poor Blackie and surgery. We have to be at the vet at 7:30 Thursday AM - he can't have breakfast - he isn't going to be happy!

    2. I'll be praying for little Blackie and you too. A hug to you and Blackie. Oh, I know how it is on breakfast, I remember Rush Limbaugh (he *loved* his cat) the cat was having surgery and was head butting Rush the entire night because he was hungry. Not fun at all.... I always dislike that part of it. The poor little fur angel has no idea what is going on.

I don’t think Blackie will be mad at you, he is smart enough to know you are caring for him. And I’m sure that when you make his sore mouth better he will love you all the more.
    Have a great day, Louise

I hope he isn't mad. He eats well, and seems in good spirits - but I am sure those teeth bother him. So after a few days I hope it will make a big difference in his life.

  15. Such a great idea on the angels -- thank you! Always looking for great, economical ideas. Going to start my cookie press cookies soon after your great tips on making those last year.
We celebrate all 12 days of Christmas so there's no pressure to get everything perfect by Dec 25th...can bake and get together with others when it's convenient for all, plus enjoy all the Christmas lights and decorations for longer.

  17. This is OT, but I had to share that one nephew and his wife, who were expecting their 1st child in January, are going to be parents sooner than expected. She went into labor today!

This child will be the 1st of a new generation in the family. In fact, it may be up to this couple for the next generation, as their cousins in the 30s (four of them) aren't married; including our sons. I'm just so happy there'll BE a new generation. :-) --Elise
