Happy Wednesday all. I am a bit tired this morning - sleep was fleeting earlier in the night!!! Oh the crazies were out in force. Poor Blackie actually got scared when I was trying to feed him - and decided to hide. Can't say as I blamed him. IT WAS LOUD! It actually ended earlier than I anticipated, guess having to get up and go to work makes a difference! There were stragglers however, going well after midnight.
The sky is very hazy this morning - hmmmmm, wonder why?? It will be very hot and humid again today.
We are supposed to get a decent cool down and lower humidity starting tomorrow. YAY! I can then out and take care of my backyard - it is a fright!
STAMPS - are going up again. The price rises on July 9, another 3 cents. So now is the time to get forever stamps if you need them. I know 3 cents doesn't sound like much - but it all adds up and this is about 4 times they have gone up in the last 18 months!
I made the homemade chicken nuggets I wrote about a while back. They were good!!! It is a good way to use up canned chicken if you need to.
I used a 10 oz. can of chicken breast (drained), 1 egg, probably about 2 Tbsp. of parm cheese, and a palm size amount of breadcrumbs. Mine needed the crumbs - it was just too wet before adding them.
I made little nuggets and put them in the air fryer. I did 360* for about 20 minutes - turning them halfway through. They were nice and crispy on the outside and soft and yummy on the inside.
I will give it a thumbs up and will definitely make them again. I got about 8 nice size nuggets.
You HOOSIER ladies - I know many of us get our 'only' news each day from Fox59 (our local) station. Well, what a howdy doo on Monday when it was no longer on cable!!!!! Contracts negotiations are on again - this makes me upset. We pay for certain stations and then they come and go. Any way I digress - I found it online, and I watch my morning and evening updates there. I can at least get my weather and find out what is gong on in the city. So look around - there are ways!!!! Hmmm - I have a Roku too - may get it that way. I need to check. I never think to use that thing! My PSA today!!! LOL

It is humid here too, unfortunately. I’ve made those chicken nuggets in the air fryer too. Bailey really liked them. It’s a great way to use up canned chicken and they are pretty healthy too. Your zucchini is a beauty! I saw a Whippoorwill Holler video this week where she made a Mexican casserole using zucchini and yellow squash. It looked so good and made me want to try it. I have some on hand, so I may do that soon. My plans include getting groceries so I hope the rain holds off until I get back.

Hi Cheryl. Thank you for the chicken recipe. I do have a couple of cans of chicken that I should probably use soon so I'll be sure and give it a try. We lost FOX almost a year ago. I also find it frustrating that they routinely do this with one channel or another. We have a ROKU also but I have to admit I don't even know how to use it. lol Enjoy your Wednesday and stay cool!

DeleteGood morning, Cheryl! They're saying we'll get strong storms this evening and we're in the severe category. The forecasters are stressing straight line winds, heavy downpours, and hail. Will need to be on the watch later today. We lost WGN, which I love to watch, if only for their 9:00 PM news broadcast, and their Chicago sports coverage. With as much as my cable has gone up, this may be my tipping point for switching to streaming. I hosted 11 people for an Independence Day celebration and fireworks (viewed from across the street), and we had great fun. A friend took over kitchen clean-up while I was visiting with some of the group. I opened the refrigerator this morning and it appears to be fully stocked for the next two weeks, with all the leftovers. I've easily got 2# of potato salad, 1+# of coleslaw, a gallon ziplock of fruit salad, a bowl of vanilla and berry "fluff", baked beans, relishes, veggies and dip ... along with 2 containers of leftover chicken. And we all ate VERY well! Realized after everyone left that I never put out the cookies, so there's that, too. Your zucchini picture reminds me that I DO need to grab a couple when I see some at a roadside stand, so that I have grated zuc available for breads around the holidays. Stay hydrated today, and stay safe!

There's been a long history with Hub's family that isn't pleasant. Not all, but many (including BIL) are very judgmental Christians. There's one path to God, only one, and only one correct way to practice/express faith and interpret scripture. After the movie, somehow, a very heated argument ensued between BIL and our youngest son. It started out (I think) because the lead actor in the movie, as well as most of the production, is Catholic. In BIL's mind, the Catholic church doesn't follow "true" interpretation of scripture. I told him that's all way above our pay grade, Christ said we're NOT to judge, and I just wish folks would stop arguing about their disagreements and focus on what we all agree on. He erupted. Son jumped in. Hub's tried to calm it down. I went outside. Could hear it escalating through the door.
DeleteSo, this morning I had an email apology from our son, written in the wee hours of the morning. It bothers me that he was so distressed by it all. It wasn't his fault. But here's the thing... our oldest son will be coming at the end of the month with his best friend, who happens to be Mexican and Catholic. They're driving 11 hours to get here, going out of their way on a vacation to see Utah's National Parks. BIL will want to see our oldest, I'm sure, but there's been much tension between them for years. BIL thinks he's too liberal, misinformed and flat out wrong. Has since R was in High school. They've had many a heated argument, which is why we saw my in-laws so rarely.
I can't--and WON'T--have this in my home. We've had one solid rule from the beginning and that's respect for each other and anyone in our home. I can't--and WON'T--allow R's best friend to be insulted or treated as "lesser". Hub's is a nice guy. Too nice. He's never corrected his family or insisted they cease and desist. He didn't last night. What to do?
I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinions be it religion, politics, whatever, but they are NOT entitled to attack others if they disagree. Or degrade them. Or pass judgement on them. We're *commanded* to love one another (if we're Christians of any stripe). Sorry if this is a touchy subject for anyone. It's not intended to rile or offend.
I guess you could say the fireworks here had nothing to do with the kind that light up the sky. :-(

DeleteThat being said, I would NOT invite BIL over when your son & friend come to visit. It doesn't sound like your son would mind missing out on seeing his uncle - as they have had strained behavior as a rule. BIL would just have to get over it. Your home, your rules, your peace.
Your son's friend should not be put in that position, nor should your son. That is just my opinion - but in my home - he would NOT be invited to that gathering.

Thank you, Ellie. As I've grown older, I've become more of a "Can't behave? Then get off my lawn!" sort of person. Too old and too tired anymore to deal with adults behaving badly, if you know what I mean. It's why I walked out of the house last night, telling Hubs (calmly), "Your brother. Your son. You deal with it." I didn't come back in until things quieted down. I did thank son for his apology and said it's best to NOT engage in future. Your suggestion to lay the rules down from here on out to BIL is a good one as well. While I'd prefer Hubs do that, I will if necessary.

We had four nights of fireworks going constantly for at least four hours each night. I love hearing them but last night some nearby sounded like a machine gun which was disturbing to me. Two times back when stamps went up we bought nearly $200 worth because we had the money sitting around in the postage budget. When the kids clean out our house they will wonder why we bought so many stamps but they should still be able to use them. LOL

DeletePoor Blackie, sad for animals who are disturbed by fireworks, hope you get a better nights sleep tonight. Although our late springer spaniels were a gun dog breed they were terrified of fireworks.
ReplyDeleteI really had to re-read your devotion from your weekend round-up about patience and things being sorted out in God's time. I have been trying to sort out a kennel or care for our little dog for next year as my husband surprised me by booking a cruise ( I don't like surprises) The one we used to use is now closed and the nearest one are not having viewings until after the summer holidays. We had a plumber rounds today to look at refitting our very small bathroom, lovely guy who went to school with our daughter and although he loves a challenge, he can't see any way of replacing the bath tub with a walk in shower. Also because of a change in building regs, he needs to fit a new waste pipe that will mean taking out some of our kitchen cabinets and tiles. On top of which, hubbie has mislaid the bunch of keys to the three shed padlocks at the allotment, Sigh. Patience is needed, something I don't always have.
I am not sure I have ever seen cans of chicken suitable for nuggets. Air fryers are just so useful. Well done on the first zucchini, sure you will turn it into something yummy.
The squirrels were not even seen today until almost 11AM. They are always waiting on me in the morning. Blackie got a good breakfast and is in 'hiding' staying cool right now.

Father in law phoned, he took the shed keys home thinking they were his and then wondered why he had two sets so that was good. Granddaughter said she would come and work from home for some of the time with her little dog, trouble is, it's 18 nights and daughter said she could take a week off work so we will hopefully sort out something.

DeleteI'm happy to say that our home is still here. Sheesh, all that fire flying around 😲. And many are probably drunk, to boot. Ours went until about midnight. It woke me several times and then just as that was over, Noah (our weather radio from NOAA) started hollering about severe storms moving in. Then, cracking lightning. Needless to say, it wasn't a well slept night lol. It is still raining and you'll get no complaints from me. Its over the entire state and I hope Kansas is soaking in every drop. Between the lack of sleep, the darkness, and the soft rain, I have droopy eyelids!! And, a big to-do list. Hmph.
ReplyDeleteHubs painted the walls inside the bay window just out. And then hung some decor I found at Hobby Lobby for 50 & 75% off. Yay! It looks nice and added some oomph to a high ceilinged blah area. Our Thanksgiving project is the laundry room. As there's no furniture, it's an inexpensive redo. I found a pretty wallpaper border that blends nicely with the adjacent kitchen so I'll order that and hold out for a paint sale, usually Labor Day weekend. The basket storage in there is still in great condition so I'll keep that.
If you enjoy political intrigue, I highly recommend Vince Flynn. Just finished Term Limits and it's rather mind-boggling that much of these tales are taken from true events....cuz you just can't make this stuff up lol. Reading The Secret in the Attic/Nancy Drew at night, but it's slow going cuz I pass out cold so quickly!

ReplyDeleteHusband had his neurologist appt. today. The Dr. thinks Husband's balance and weakness problems may be due to a vitamin B12 deficiency. He also wants to see the results of the 2-week cardio monitor. The unit is due to arrive tomorrow in the mail. They want to check for A-fib or other heart arrhythmias.
I am so mentally and physically fried right now that I can hardly think straight.

Hubs is out running errands and called to say he was going to get the oil changed. I told him I was about to call his brother. Which I then did. Calmly and firmly I let BIL know... that will NOT happen again in my house. Didn't really give him much space to respond as I confessed this is why we avoided spending time with the folks. ReplyDeleteI watched the Macy's show and dropped into bed at 9pm. I heard 1 firework before I drifted off to sleep and slept like a rock until hubster's 0600 alarm. I'm sure there was plenty of noise but nothing much bothers me the first 5h I'm asleep. Happy summer ya'll!

It's been the start of high tourist season here and we did what the majority of locals do; stock up for anything you think you may need for the next few weeks and stay home. The first July 4th weekend tourists have started going home, but Bike Week starts the 9th and at least 20,00 bikers will descend on our little town for a week. Some of them seem to have decided to get here early. We've already started hearing the roar this morning.
ReplyDeleteOn the bright side, yesterday was hub's birthday. We are a pair. His birthday is the 4th of July and mine is Pearl Harbor Day. I made us a lovely brunch using a new recipe for gluten free low histamine pancakes. The recipe called for oat flour, which I didn't have, but since I had rolled oats I just whizzed them up in the high speed blender to make the needed flour. Added blueberries to them and they were fabulous. Light and fluffy. That with thick sliced uncured bacon and eggs, real maple syrup. It was divine. I also baked his favorite 3 ingredient peanut butter cookies for him. He loved it. We just lounged around and watched A Capitol Fourth in the evening.

ReplyDeleteZucchini! I look for different ways to fix them. The cucumbers are blooming as well as green beans. One of the 5 gallon buckets with potatoes should be ready to harvest about the time we have the first mess of green beans. Your chicken nuggets sound good, especially in the air fryer. Years ago we had a Fry Daddy. Can't tolerate much grease any more.
The Farmer put up an antenna and we can also get the local channels on our Fire Stick. Basically the only thing we watch is YouTube.
Today is hot! Tomorrow will be better.
Pets are so disturbed by all that noise. People just don't care.

Hi Cheryl, Do you have a talk radio station? They are pretty good with news and weather or I usually just go to a weather site online. I can see hour to hour and hubs has a radar app on his phone and it's great. We can see any storm rolling in if suspected and the intensity and where it's heading, and usually it beats any weather report even online sites.

Poor little Blackie! Our sweet lab/shepherd, Liesl. She has was very anxious night before last, some country neighbor making huge explosions till midnight at least. Soooooo inconsiderate. Liesl followed me in our room and that is where that angel stayed. She is so sweet, she's a collossal ball of love, a gigantic lab looking dog mostly white with white eyelashes and dark brown eyes..
Tonight I'm going to make tacos, I have tons of avocados that need smushing and tons of big roma tomatoes all from Aldi. Good deals, especially the tomatoes right now! I have some pea protein veggie pieces from Trader Joe's that will make great taco filling with my taco seasoning I put together. I have plenty of lettuce and red onion from yesterday.
What matters on any Christian religion is if we are sold out to the Lord and have a personal relationship with Him, and *know* Him. Love God and hate sin. That's a mini synopsis. (reading above)

Liesl is such a gift, she went from home to home because she was an active puppy, our daughter and hub took her and it was a lot for them, before she had her first baby I told her I would take Liesl while she had the baby as long as she got her fixed and she has been with Mimi ever since! She still recognizes our daughter and hubs but she knows this is her home. I tell her..."You are OURS now Liesl!" She plays with Gracie, our Black Mouth Curr who was skin and bones with no hair in the dead of winter when one of our daughters scooped her up off of the road and they both also play with Coffee Belle, another fur angel with mange found in a subdivision. We have six dogs counting our daughter's dauchsund and three cats! Two of the dogs, Muffie and Missy are blind. We have a house of fur angels and love for our pets as I know you agree, oh the joy they bring! I love waking up and coming into the living room to the kitchen in the dark of the early morning for my coffee and see my angels, such a sweet time. Coffee, Jesus and my fur angels. : )

ReplyDeleteI have made the canned meat nuggets often, at the same time I make a vegetarian one with cauliflower. I roll mine into finger sized lengths ( to make the men I am required to feed feel more manly, because nuggets are just not masculine!!!!!! ) and also they are a better shape to fit into my air fryer and then to freeze.
Elise, I do really feel for you. It’s hard to be caught in the middle of family issues.
I hope your call has cleared the air and laid the ground rules going forward. It’s difficult when families can’t get along, for whatever reason, and it hurts in your heart, so I really hope your sons visit goes well. Louise

I think I stole the idea from someone at church, I serve them with soup and you can dip in the sticks. Plain cheese sticks, dipped in egg and then crumbed and then in the air fryer go beautifully with a can of tomato soup.
