Weekly Wrap Up 10/12

 Hello to all and happy Sunday.  Happy Thanksgiving weekend to all our Canadian friends.  Hope this finds you all safe and happy and healthy.
Cool mornings prevail, yet the days are nice.  According to the weather man, we are to be above normal for the next 14 days or so.  Highs this week are to be in the 70's.  I'll take it.

It seems the nasty stink bugs left pretty much - then yesterday there were a bunch of box elder bugs.  I am hoping that was kind of a fluke, as the mower came to mow the big yard next door and I do believe he stirred them up, under and around said tree!  They were gone within a couple hours, so here is hoping I don't see any more today.
I think Eric (chicken man) has a new chicken that is being vocal and weird.  When he first lets them out in the morning, there is one that now sounds like a demented, evil clown laughing!  Seriously - it is the weirdest noise, especially first thing in the morning!
This week wasn't anything big, just a lot of little things that add up to getting things done before the cold hits.
My frugal week:
  • Washed some baggies this week
  • Lots of walks and free exercise
  • Laundry and used dehumidifier water and hung everything to dry
  • Worked of 'critter' proofing the outside of the house - for buggers and/or mice.  Checking the perimeter and taking care of any cracks in block
  • Ordered checks this week - last ones ordered was almost 2 years ago!
  • Took down and cleaned hummingbird feeders for the winter.  :(
  • Hard boiled eggs for snacks
  • Painted the planter/solar light structure my neighbor made me.  I got it placed out front
  • I did go to Kroger because I had rec. a coupon for a FREE 24 pack of water (coupon exp. 10/11).  I do not buy water but like to have for the holidays for visitors.  I got it and extra canned cat food.  Of course, I looked around - and found ground pork on clearance - 1 lb.-$1.68 and crackers on clearance (dated 3/26) which will be gone by then!
  • Repackaged all the meat and froze - there will be a lot of meals from that cheap meat.  So many ways to serve or season it.
  • Cleaned out a bunch of paperwork
  • Harvest only about 5 lbs.
  • Cleaned out the area behind the garden and between it and the fence (deadheading)
  • Cleaned the ceiling fans (ran 24/7 for months)
  • Cleaned a couple more windows
  • Cooking from home and using what I have
  • No AC or heat.  Slippers and bathrobe and throw on super chilly mornings
Meals this past week:
Dirty rice w/grnd. beef and salad
Grilled cheese and tomato soup
L/O rice topped with chicken/bean Mex. soup (from freezer) and sliced tomatoes
Omelet, sausage patties, toast and tomatoes
Chili (freezer) w/crackers and a salad
Chili/cheese nachos
Breaded fried pork burger w/Swiss and salad
SNACKS:  popcorn, fruit, apple & p/b, cheese and tomatoes

There you go - nothing much exciting.  Seems we all have our projects we want to get done this month.  Time flies by so fast, so we all need to get moving.  I start this week on taking down the garden (sad face).
I hope you all have a grand week ahead and stay safe and healthy.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can; and
the wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying each moment of time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;

Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things
right if I surrender to His will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this
life and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.

Lord, first we have thankful hearts for all blessings received this week.  Help us each to be the kind of people to honor You every moment.    Help us each to know that things are to be done in Your time and with Your Will.  I ask for health and healing for all our lovely family and friends.  May we each give thanks and love this week.  AMEN

  1. Wonderful devotional this day. :) To be thankful and be the kind of people to honor the Good Lord every day, all day - there's a goal to aim for!

    Yesterday we went to sing hymns all day out of town, and it was lovely. None of our Google or Bing directions were the same, nor were they accurate, but we found the church without any trouble whatsoever anyway! Strange, how these fancy map things do not work as one might expect. :)

    1. Thanks. Glad you got to spend a day doing what brings you joy.
      I use plain old directions or a map on the computer to find places before heading out. I do not have that option with my vehicle - good old fashioned me!
      Have a wonderful week.

  2. Yum, so many good deals at Kroger. I’m thinking egg roll in a bowl with the pork. You’re right, you’ll get a lot of good meals from that.
    I would love to hear that chicken. I was lol when you described it. 😂
    That meme is a beautiful one. 💕
    I finally pulled and tossed my completely non-producing tomato plants this week. Maybe next year will be better. I love not having to run the ac or heat and you know you’re saving money on your electric bill. It’s chilly here this morning like it is by you, so I pulled out a sweatshirt to wear, which feels good. Your meals sound delicious and some real comfort foods like the grilled cheep and soup. I hope you have another good week even if it’s not too exciting as sometimes those are the best days.

    1. Yep that or egg rolls! So many options. Seriously it sounds like something from a scary movie - just an evil laugh - but it is a chicken!
      Sorry you had such a dismal year with your tomatoes. Mine are still hanging with big green tomatoes.
      I do love this weather - it sure does save $$. Sweatshirt weather is nice.
      I finally started with a little comfort food. Tired of waiting! LOL
      I like the easy weeks - get things done, but not rushed.
      Have a great week.

  3. The fall yard cleanup that I used to do after work before supper now takes me 3 days! But it's done. A belt broke on the garden tiller; I'll see if I can replace it without my neighbor's help. There's a mum pot & a pumpkin on the porch that I keep forgetting to bring in at night (in spite of the note on the counter!) w/ temps <0 at night. Another testimony to my age. It's Thanksgiving w/e here. Turkeys were reduced at <$2/lb; cheap protein. So I cooked one from the freezer & made 3qts of soup stock. I was gifted more tomatoes so preserved 7 pts of tomatoes. I will make soup or sauce w/ the rest. My Sept birthday celebration goes on w/ my cousin bringing supper one night. A fun evening w/ cards after supper. Living slow & easy one day at a time, guided by the seasons. In the kitchen: ground beef casserole w/ penne noodles; cheesy cauliflower soup; roast beef w/ veg; turkey noodle casserole; roast beef & onion sandwich. Have a good week, Cheryl.

    1. I used to do the entire yard - mow/trim in a few hours, now it takes 3 days! I totally understand.
      I look forward to turkey. Nice on the tomatoes and preserving!
      How fun for you - extend as long as you can. Your meals sound so yummy to me. YUM
      Have a lovely week.

  4. The Serenity Prayer is always an uplifting read. It is a good reminder of Who we can rely upon.

    Nice morning and the 70's daytime temps will be very welcome. I have some outdoors chores to do this morning but so far am dragging my feet.

    1. I love the Serenity Prayer.
      It is gorgeous out today. Much to accomplish on these lovely days. Don't over do it.
      Have a beautiful week.

  5. I use about 2-4 cheques a year at most, so the order of 100 I bought a few years ago should last the rest of my life. :)
    Great deal on the pork sausage! It's so versatile too.
    It's pouring rain here today, and the temperature is dropping quickly. Fingers crossed the snow in the forecast passes us by.

    1. I use that many each month - used to be everything.
      I find that a wonderful price for any kind of meat.
      Dang, I hate you are having nasty weather for the holiday. Enjoy your family.
      Have a great week.

  6. Cheryl, love that you got free water bottles. Also great deal on the pork. I don’t eat pork but I know it’s versatile.

    It is a gorgeous morning here, 68 F. which is cool for us.

    I did some trimming and also cleaned out two gardens over the past two days. They look so much better. I carried over a heavy pot of yellow lantana from my townhouse and will use it here.

    Decluttered a few more items from the garage including things from my dad’s ancient heavy metal toolbox. There is more to do.

    Flooring company contacted me that they had overcharged me and had issued a refund to my credit card. Very honest.

    1. I love it too - it supplies me with bottled water for the holidays. I don't buy it any other time. Pork is very versatile.
      Glad you got some yard work done - it always looks so pretty when things are cleaned out. Good for you on the declutter.
      YAY - got to love a refund!!! That shows you they have integrity!
      Have a super week

  7. It sounds like you had a nice week. It's still a bit too hot in the house to turn the air off but at least it's only running a bit in the evening instead of all. day. long with the heat we had.
    Enjoy your Sunday and have a great week.

  8. I've been busy in the garden, clearing away Summer bedding and planting Wallflowers and Tulip bulbs for Spring colour. Today I bought some Winter Flowering Pansies to put into pots by my front door. They cheer me up whatever the weather.
    We have had a very expensive week. Our car was in for a service and that revealed that it needed two new tyres. I am not moaning. Safety 1st, as far as I am concerned. Then our old laptop decided to die, so a new one was purchased to replace it. The old one was over 10 years old, so it had earned its keep many times over, but it has almost been like saying goodbye to an old friend.
