Hello to all. Can you believe we are again on the last Sunday of another month? It is less than 60 days now until Christmas! You are welcome!! LOL
It is finally fall in my area. It feels it - although for the most part, it is nice fall weather. The colors are finally starting to change some. There is still a lot of green out there too. Temps are cool, and not as many full sunny days. Daylight hours sure have shortened. I notice it the most in the mornings - it has changed my outdoor schedule.
It has been a fairly quiet week and just small projects again.
My frugal week:
- Made a small amount of green tomato relish (for me)
- Made a nice big bowl of tomato/cuke/onion salad - ate for meals and snacks
- Using the Soda Stream for carbonated fruit water
- Made a batch of brownies (had a sweet tooth)
- I went to lunch with grade school chums this week. That is always a fun thing. We had a really nice group this month. Took several red and green tomatoes for who ever wanted them.
- Added extra bedding to the greenhouse and the little house for kitties
- NO grocery store this week
- Pulled out about half of the garden - remainder to follow in the next few days
- Cleaned out my closet, especially the floor
- Did stop at the feed store while out and got squirrel and bird feed
- Finally had to turn on the heat this week, as we had a couple nights of 30's. It is set at 67* - and it has felt perfect
- Made a big pot of veggie/hamburger soup/stew (stoup). Ate and froze some for later
- Put up the hoses for the winter
- Filling baskets, bins from supplies on hand. Brought up some freezer goods from downstairs and took others from up to down
- A neighbor brought me a few slices of banana bread she just made
Meals this past week:
Cheese topped pozole over rice w/crackers
Grilled cheese/ham/tomato sandwich and l/o pozole
Hamburger hash and salad
Cheesy potato soup (freezer) salad
Homemade hamburger veggie stoup (threw in l/o hash)
Out to lunch w/friends - (House of Tokyo) - brought extra home for later that day
Veggie stoup and end of salad
Nothing exciting much, just daily living. Oh, I did pay everything I had due, up through even November dates. The house insurance and umbrella were in there - oh my!!! At least that is done for another year.
How was your week? Did you do anything fall-ish and fun? Get any deals? Fall cleaning?
Give us a shout out and let us know what is going on in your world.
I hope this finds you all well and safe. Please know I pray for you all and there are many that need those prayers - unspoken requests. I hope you all have a lovely week ahead.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

"Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."
Matthew 7:7
Lord we know that You are always with us, and You guide us. Help us to realize that all things are answered, just not always as we expect. Your will be done. You know the reason and the outcome. You are placing us everyone, where we need to be to do what we need to do in this world. It is not always understood at the time. Thank You for all out many blessings. Amen

Yes, this is also a season for my Big Bills - Car insurance and Umbrella policy. Done for the year! :) (Other big one comes in spring.)
ReplyDeleteHeat is on now, temps not going up much in the day, freeze warnings and frost at night, sunny days not expected this week either, highs in the 50s. Still hoping for a new heating system very soon, it's promised before winter but it's beginning to feel like winter *now*! Patience is a virtue I need to practice.
"You are placing us every one where we need to be to do what we need to do in this world." Oh my, how excellent this is. So easy to forget or deny, but here I am, where I'm supposed to be. Thanks for the reminder! :)

It does seem like spring and late fall are my big bill seasons. I am grateful I can pay them and not hurt in any way.
DeleteI sure hope you get a new furnace soon - yes some days it does seem like winter. It won't be long.
You are welcome. I think we all forget that at times. Bad things happen in life, but it puts us where we are supposed to be. I don't understand it - but I do believe it!
Have a wonderful week.
The blank calendar days have a way of filling up. A neighbor invited some neighbors to his cabin while he was smoking chickens. It was a nice gathering by the wood stove, standing room only. The huge slough in front of his place has dried up & he showed us a full elk horn that he had dug up. Who knows how long it has been there. There was a municipal election so my cousin & I went to vote then played cards after we did our civil duty. I spent a day contending with vertigo (BPPV - benign paroxysmal positional vertigo), never fun but not as severe as in the past. Another trip to the city 2 hrs away to visit with a friend. She lives in a downtown condo, such a contrast to my rural setting where the biggest traffic problem are the deer! My son showed up unexpectedly for an overnight stay. Thank goodness for freezer food - meatballs & spaghetti sauce came in handy. A big pot of hamburger soup was made yesterday awa halloween sugar cookies for the neighbor little to decorate. I've been very good about not eating the treats I've purchased for halloween. Other meals: roasted root veg, souvlaki, avocado toast, guacamole. Have a good week, Cheryl.
ReplyDeleteYour calendar gets full fast and seems to stay that way!
DeleteIt all sounds like a fun time. Wow, on the full elk horn.
Glen used to get vertigo at times. Not fun. I hate you go through that.
Glad you sone came to visit. The freezer is always nice to have.
All sounds good.
Have a super week.
“Lord we know that You are always with us, and You guide us.” Cheryl, yes this is what keeps me going.
ReplyDeleteIn my area, we are entering the best time of year weather wise. It is now comfortable, mid-80s daytime and mid to high-60s at night. I love it. I can now work and play comfortably in the yard.
This week I focused on more items to get my old house ready to sell. Biggest thing was removing the old caulking from the bathtub and it was a lot of work because I had not done the greatest job when I previously recaulked. I now have it ready to recaulk with blue tape to use as a guide. I plan to do it tomorrow.
Had a doctor appointment that went well.
Met my contractor and the tile guy at the tile store to pick out the tile for the new shower at my “new” house. Work should begin in a few weeks.
Another belated birthday lunch for me with friend who returned from two months away visiting her son. It was my favorite (Thai) and I brought home the “leftovers” and got two meals from them.
Watered and trimmed in yard, mostly on the side. (We are now like you with dry weather.)
Later today I plan to go for an oil change. I noticed the oil level is at 20% and the light will come on at 15% so I want to get it done.
I have paid all my bills for the repairs/updates for the old house (about $9k over several months) out of cash flow. In a few days I’ll get my property tax bills. I can pay the property bill on the old house out of cash flow but will have to take the money for the new house (almost $6k) out of savings. Next year this bill should go down because I’ll have “homestead.”
“Splurged” and signed up for Netflix (with commercials) because I want to watch season 3 of The Diplomat. I may keep Netflix through the end of the year.
It is what gets me through as well.
DeleteYou sure have been busy with the houses. Glad the old one is winding down. It will be nice to just have the one to worry about.
I generally pay the entire year of taxes on house in the spring. They come together (spring & fall) and I just pay it, so I don't forget. It sure is always something.
Enjoy your Netflix. A little splurge now and then is good.
Have a beautiful week!
Oil change price was the same as last year (Valvoline). I had a 20% e-mail coupon this year and a 15% printed coupon last year so this year, today, I actually paid less. Not too often that happens now so I’m happy.
DeleteHow nice. Always nice to get those discounts.
DeleteExcellent devotional! I especially love your conversation with Yehovah, "Help us to realize that all things are answered, just not always as we expect. Your will be done." He knows where we need to be and when.
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely fall. The trees and bushes seem to be slow about changing color. I follow a lady who lives on a mountaintop in New York State and her burning bush in her garden was stunning. Time to put away all gardening paraphernalia until next spring. We are already talking about what to replant and what to skip. The seed catalog will start arriving shortly after the first of the year.
Tis the season for big bills. Paid our property taxes, which are way too high, and anticipating a payment for homeowner's insurance next month. We are better off than a lot of folks but it's still shocking to pay out hundreds of dollars for the privilege of living in your own home.
We are having a turkey meatloaf with roasted brussels sprouts and an indulgence, a baked sweet potato for lunch. I had an Mperk for ground turkey that was on sale at Meijer.
Enjoy your day. It's the kind of day to putter around, take a nap, eat something, putter some more.
Thank you. We may not understand, but His will is done always.
DeleteThere are some trees around here that are gorgeous and others still very green.
Those big bills are a pain, but we have to pay them. I am just glad I can and not be put in a bind.
Sounds like a yummy lunch.
You are right - I ran to Kroger for a minute this morning (Sunday special deal). Came home and cooked a bite, ate, walked and now thinking about cleaning some. A nap may be in there somewhere!
Have a lovely week.
I do enjoy a good freezer soup. Fun to have stuff ready. I also like to have hand-pies/fold overs on the ready for the work week. Pulled out the night before and we're ready to rock the next day.
ReplyDeleteLove things like that - a nice quick dinner or lunch - that is always a win for me.
DeleteHave a good week.
Yum, green tomato relish is so good. How nice to have lunch with your grade school friends. I’m sure they appreciated the tomatoes. Your meals sound good and warm and comforting. It’s that time of year again. I’m sitting here under a blanket.
ReplyDeleteI love green tomato relish. I think they were happy to get the tomatoes. I heard a lot of comments "yum fried green tomatoes".
DeleteIt is comfort food time for me. Stay warm.
Have a special week.
Eating from freezer/pantry continues. I bought a can of soup (cuz I can't eat a pot and don't like freezer soup) a few pieces of fresh fruit and a box of fresh bakery cookies for treats. These are cut in half and I am allowed 1 piece per day!!!!! Hear that Elle?????? ;-)
ReplyDeleteI've plenty left still in the freezer: 1/2gallon bag of cooked brown rice, black beans, taco meat, Italian meat and chopped peppers, 4 servings of grilled chicken, 2c of corn freshly removed from cobbs when it arrived plus everything outside vac sealed in the big freezer. I cannot possibly claim "nothing to eat".
"Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."
Our prayer warrior team is huge and working hard. God listens to every one as we will attest. Hubster's progress is a slow climb to Jan 1 with setbacks as expected. Overall doing well for day 26. We are ready and willing to kick 2025 in the behind and move forward in hopes of a cure rather than the 57 months shown in the research for this treatment protocol. Meanwhile, we will live each day to it's fullest and without regrets. Sometimes that is a walk of 40 feet down the sidewalk and back home. We will take it!
May each and every one of you be as Blessed as we are feeling today. 💗
He is making progress. I’m happy for both of you.
DeleteGlad you have so many goodies for meals for yourself and good for you on rationing snacks. I don't have that much willpower!
DeleteSo glad to hear things are still progressing well. There are always little setbacks now and then - but going forward, even slowly, is progress. We will continue to pray and pray for complete healing. 40' is a good distance so soon.
Have a blessed week.
I bought two bags of honey crisps apples for $4, made a pot of dried lima beans, roasted potatoes, onions, and carrots in a pan, made baba ganoush bc I love eggplant and tahini, used young mustard greens from my front yard in my sandwiches, and ate more tomatoes from my surprise tomato plant. I also have coleslaw to eat and ai suppose I will bake chicken from the freezer if I run out of beans. Cindy in the South
ReplyDeleteThat is a great price for the apples! Oh, that all sounds wonderful. I love lima beans - I need to cook some soon. I have dried baby lima beans - my favorite type.
DeleteYou will be eating good this week!
Have a great week.
