Come Sit and Chat

Hello all.  Here we are in the last week of the month again!  Time flies when you're having fun!  I hope this finds you all well, and I hope everyone had a nice weekend.
I stayed home all weekend and just enjoyed quiet time.
It is a 60's morning here.  The sunrise was so beautiful this morning - the pinks and oranges were something.  I was standing at the kitchen window looking at it and up flies a hummingbird for a drink!  What a great way to start the day.
I often wonder about folks who don't get up early and never see the glory of God in the skies, and I think about what they are missing.  It sure is something.
Last evening at sunset (about 9PM) the horizon was just gorgeous and bright pink in EVERY direction!  WOW.

Come sit with me and chat for a while.  I just love my walkway up to the porch.  Lots of red, white and blue flowers - I have my little yard flags out (you can't see the 2nd one).  Lots of sunflowers coming up and will soon bloom thanks to the birds!

Sunday the race got completed 100%, with no rain.  That was a good thing.  I hear that it poured just after the race ended in Speedway. My neighborhood did not get a drop - it was just cloudy.
I am not a huge race fan, but did see bits of it on TV, and the ending was sure something!  It set records and made history for the closest finish ever.  It was pretty darn amazing; I even caught myself yelling at the TV.
I watched the opening ceremonies and listened to Taps (and cried), then I went out to the porch, and I got to see the flyover of the fighter jets at my house.  I could hear them all the way out to the track - it was a muffled rumbling sound, then all of a sudden there they were and that noise is something.  They went directly over the house and were still in the missing man formation.
I know many may think I am nuts, but I find it so moving.

Thought I would show you my little kitchen lettuce and green onion 'garden' outside the kitchen door.
It is just me, so I don't need a lot - and this works perfectly.  I can continue to plant onions.  I had some fresh lettuce yesterday on a sandwich - YUM.

I dropped my glasses last week on the driveway (cement).  Now I have a couple scratches right in the middle of one of the lenses!  Anyone have an easy 'hack' to help cover the scratches until I can get my eyes checked and get new glasses?  I can still wear them for now, but it is noticeable and a little annoying.  I don't have to wear them all the time and can just wear readers for close up, but I do wear them some.
Any help?

Boy oh boy the tulip tree is messy right now.  Flowers are dropping all over.  Especially after a wind or rain.  This is looking out the bedroom window.
This was how it looked before I could get out to mow and trim and those darned petals were all over.  By the way, I did get to mow and trim yesterday - so happy.  The petals are cleaned up for the moment - until it rains later today!

Well, there are new members on the little homestead!  Pip, who I thought was a boy cat, had babies!  Yep - I try to get the females fixed first - but I made a mistake with Pippy.  She is so small herself and has the littlest head and neck - just so darn cute (about 9 months old).  I believe there are 3!!!!  A black one, a black & white one, and an all-white one!!!!  Now her momma and daddy were both solid black, and so is Pip and her sibling - and here is an all-white one, I figure old Tom must be the daddy! (he is b & w).  She has them in a secluded area in the greenhouse and lets me take a look from a distance. They aren't even a week old and so tiny.  Hopefully I get to see them close up soon!
So, I will have other choices coming up in about 7-8 weeks or so.  Sigh!
I am so upset; I hate having to give animals away and separate them.  You know me, the old softy.

Well, I guess I better get busy and do some outdoor work before rain comes in.
Thanks for sitting and 'listening' to me talk.  Join in the converstion.
I hope you all have a lovely day.
Thank you for being here!!!!

  1. Good that the race went ok and you got to enjoy your Fly Over! Your path to the porch looks so nice. :) I like your little pots of kitchen greens. If I had more sun I might try that here, but so far the only thing that does well is parsley, and it is great!

We are still in the rain, day after day. Several inches so far. The ground and plants are happy. Our tulip poplar trees were thinking it was August already and dropping leaves as well as blooms before this rain started, it was so dry in April and May...

Best wishes on finding homes for the newborns in your greenhouse. Hope you can catch the little mom and get her spayed before she starts up again!

    1. Thanks. Mine are on the east side and get morning sun - then not much after that and the lettuce does great.
Glad your plants are happy with all the rain. My tulip poplar usually started losing leaves end of June/first of July. The flowers are a messy bit. But they give shade and are good trees.
Thanks - I am not looking forward to having to find homes for them. It just makes me so sad to split them up. I will get mommy some how!

  2. Aww, more kitties to find loving homes for and another kitty to have spayed. They are just doing what nature tells them, they can't understand the consequences. Actually, some people are like that. Just sayin'.

Your front garden looks fabulous! You have a lot more lambs ear plants than I have. The blooms are pretty, above the velvety foliage. Tulip trees are pretty but such a mess.

We heard the jets but it was so cloudy we couldn't see them. I kept hearing helicopters and after see the pictures on Instagram, realized they had been flying over the track. The stands were jam-packed! Too many people, too much traffic for this old gal. We worked in the backyard for quite a while before going in for lunch.

Off to peg the comforter and coverlet on the clothesline. Enjoy your day!

    1. LOL - yeah a lot of people are like that!!! They sure are little bitty things.
Thanks. I have a lot of lamb's ear down the side of the garage too - not planned. I threw down some pullouts last fall - and I guess something rooted before I picked it all up - it looks pretty and it was free.
There were a lot of helicopters too. I swear the planes that flew over the house looked like they were just above the trees - so close. Too much traffic for me too.

  3. My sister took a cat to get spayed. The call from the vet at the end of the day announced that "he" was ready for pick up. She said she'd left a female cat, not a male. The cat had undescended testes. In the words of my sister - He went from a she to a he to an it in one day! Your front walk is beautiful. I'd love to set on that porch with you.

    1. Well, now I don't feel so bad for not knowing!!! Pip hasn't let me pick up - so I just kind of eye balled it! LOL - oopsy!
Thank you - I enjoy it. I would love for you to come and sit a spell and just chat. Some days it is so peaceful out there. No traffic noise and you can just hear the birds and squirrel chatter.

  4. I think I read once Pledge furniture polish can temporarily help scratches on glasses. IDK if only Pledge and if it's just marketing. It'd be hard to give away those kittens but of course theres a limit. So good you're trying to manage the pet population. Ours are all fixed and indoor animals but have cared for strays many times.

    1. I haven't tried Pledge but have tried cream tooth paste. I read that worked - nope.
I know - babies are just so sweet. But enough is enough. I try to take care of what I can, I just hate seeing so many strays having unwanted population. Slow and steady wins the race!

  5. Cheryl, your walkway is lovely. So lush and green. And I like your “kitchen garden.” That is more my speed than a full garden. How fun to have the kittens but like you I am a softie when it comes to separating them but I know it must be done.

I think our dry spell is over. We had a pounding rain last night and we are supposed to get more rain every day this week.

This morning I had a handyman install a deadbolt on my front door along with a new regular lock. I live in a safe area but friends told me I should have better locks on my door and I know they are right, especially when I’m away. He also put new rubber stripping on the bottom of the screen door on the porch. I used a handyman service affiliated with Ace Hardware and I’d use them again. Not inexpensive but reliable and knew what he was doing.

I enjoyed reading your chat, Cheryl. Have a wonderful day. Barbara M.

P.S. You might try showing your glasses to someone at the Walmart Vision Center or another eyeglass place. Walmart adjusted my glasses that got bent being jostled in a crowded place. No charge.

  6. I was glad the race went on with no rain. I've never been, but my dad went a number of times. I was never a fan of race cars, just so loud.
I don't know what can minimize the scratch but I hope you can figure it out. It's so annoying when something is on your glasses.
Have a great week. Your yard is looking really nice.
