Hello my friends. Hope you are all well this fine day. It is a wet day here. Not sure what time it started raining during the night but woke to a little thunder and rain. It is muggy and extremely cloudy. It stopped for the moment, and I got to get out and feed the cats - they were hungry.
Boy everything is just vibrant and almost glowing this morning. The grass is so bright green. I have all kinds of lilies that are shooting up buds - Tiger and D'Oro - tons of them. It will soon be a sea of orange and yellow out back.
Whether sale or not - I am always stocking up on cat food - both dry and canned. That is probably the one item I do not always get on sale. I do get special deals from Kroger (as they keep track) on things I buy, and cat food is usually in the mix. I get the best deals I can - but it is always in demand here.
I do not leave a grocery store WITHOUT buying cat food, in some form.
Other things I always watch for - are sales and clearance on certain items. Whenever I see a good price on TP and ground meat - I BUY IT! It doesn't matter if I need it now, I will always use it. I am always stocked very well on both.
I used to buy pasta just about every time I went shopping. I now have a good supply, and have it sealed to last, so I am good on that. I got so many good deals on all sorts of pasta. Same with all sorts of dried legumes.
I keep my eyes open for dish soap and laundry soap as well. Sales and clearance only!!!! When I find it, I get it.
I know many look for the super cheap case deals on canned veggies, and then on turkeys and hams at the holiday sales. I do keep an eye open for sure.
I often buy garden seeds when they are on clearance to keep for the future. They last well, when kept dry!
What are the things you ALWAYS buy when the price is right?
I know this is a shorter post - but I am curious what you all do. It might help others to see what you stock up on - new ideas they hadn't thought of.
What say you??????
Have a wonderful day and give thanks for all gifts.

I have a designated spot for TP and when our preferred brand 12pk is on sale, I buy enough to refill-I believe it holds 6.
ReplyDeleteI do buy a spiral sliced ham at Easter and Christmas when on sale. We vac seal portions that equal 4 meals and we have ham year round.
Tea. We have 3 specific ones we love. Those sales never go to waste. When I was in pantry earlier, there are currently 12 boxes. I need to stop so it doesn't get too old. Is tea like spices? Does it lose flavor? Hmmmmm, IDK.
Breakfast sausage-I buy up the max allowed. We cook up 1/week.
While we have enough food around to get us through a month or 2 if circumstances didn't allow any purchasing, I am by no means a prepper like my friend in eastern TN who has a 2 year food room.
TP doesn't go old - I buy when I find my good deal. I have it under the bed, in a closet and in basement!
DeleteHams are so yummy, and you sure can find deals around the holidays. I do have enough tea bags for me to last a couple years - I forgot to mention that. I have never had it taste off - but 2 years is about my limit.
I have a huge pantry, my freezer and a 'deep' pantry and could easily go a year or more (more) on basic goods.
Thanks - great ideas.
One time I found canned salmon for 50 cents per can, so I bought 50 cans! I will always stock up on that and other things I find on sale or mark down including canned tomatoes, canned fruit, canned chicken, canned vegetables, canned or dried beans, shelf stable milk, canned milk, and spaghetti sauce.
ReplyDeleteAnd there are probably other things I'm forgetting right now. I always keep a stash of garbage bags and we do the cat food here too.
Well dang girl I would have as well!!!! You sound like me, all the basics - covers so much. I probably have enough Jello to last for a looooooong while!
DeleteTrash bags are a good thing to have.
I try to buy extra sharp Cabot cheese when it is on sale. I recently missed the sale and bought Aldi NY State Aged Reserve cheese instead but I’m not happy with it (still using it). The Cabot cheese is on sale this week and I snapped it up.
ReplyDeleteOther things I buy almost always when they are on sale are Angel Soft toilet paper and 30 gallon Hefty Cinch Bags for the yard. I have a good supply. I recently bought Hefty bags with flaps instead of the cinch bags for the can in the garage where I put kitchen garbage. Those bags cost less but were a mistake and I’ll be glad when I use them up but I won’t waste them. Barbara M.
Got to watch those sales and get those products you love. Knowing how often they have sales is a plus.
DeleteTP - doesn't go bad! Got to have it.
I get bags when I find a deal. I think I have them in the house and garage. Different sizes.
For the right price I will buy just about anything. But usually my stock ups are peanut butter, pasta, beans (dry and canned,) mac and cheese (my son,) boxed sides for quick dinners and canned corn and green beans and canned fruits. I buy meat in bulk but also buy chicken as a stock up. For the pantry trash bags, and TP.
ReplyDeleteMy pantry usually has enough for 5-6 months but after 3 we would need fats (butter, oil. ) We can get eggs from 1 of the 7 homes stands in the area and organic milk from a local farmer.
Right now I am ready for a good old fashioned grocery exile.
Peanut butter - thanks for mentioning that. That is a good.
DeleteSounds like you do a good job in keeping things you like and use.
I keep butter in my freezer - get lots when it goes on sale. Good for you on having local sources - that is huge. We should all find local places - just in case!
It is interesting what a person will buy on sale for resupplying a pantry. We have lots of canned goods and dry beans and pasta. If we find a good buy on meat, it goes into the freezer. Costco has good sales on tp, so we won't run out. I keep gallons of white vinegar for cleaning, etc. The best price is at Rural King. We live close to all these stores so we are not burning gas to drive several miles to save a few cents.
ReplyDeleteThe Farmer got up at 7:30 and said we got an inch of rain last night. today will be an indoor chore day. It's kind of like a snow day! ha!
Baby kitties doing okay?
Coconut milk is something I grab as sometimes it's hard-to-find find in town and expensive. Dog and cat food need to be on hand here and pass to my kids. I always peruse the discounted meat freezer if I stop in to our local grocery store. They still have an in house butcher and stock up for weekends so I can often get better quality meat at 20'30% lower. Not fantastic deals but brings it comparable to other proteins.
