Weekly Wrap Up 5/3

Hello all and happy May to everyone!  Hard to believe it is already May.  I hope this finds everyone safe and healthy and well.
We have had a couple very chilly mornings - we had a frost advisory, but luckily, we didn't get any here (lots of dew).  I am sure they did up north of here.  We have had cooler days, and it looks like this coming week will be a bit cooler as well.
Took this pic a couple days ago - there are so many more poppies blooming now.  That row behind is all peonies and they are loaded with buds!  I bet they will start popping open this coming week.  There sure are a lot of different types of lilies.
The dandelions and the violets are about done and now there is clover all over.  The tulip poplar tree has started blooming and boy it is messy.  It is one messy tree most of the year - but it is old and big and provides a lot of shade.

My frugal week:
  • Raked and cleaned up all under the squirrel feeders early on - placed all the 'falls' out in the woodsy part of the alley for other critters to get
  • Did a good 2 weeks' worth of laundry, plus all the furniture throws, bedding and throw rugs.  Used dehumidifier water in laundry 2X - used cold water - and hung most to dry
  • Finally finished up my last t-shirt blanket - it is actually a twin size but covered the top of my queen bed.  My niece will deliver to her MIL this coming Friday for her birthday. These were all shirts from vacations for MIL.
  • Made a big bowl of pasta and veggie salad using up all kinds of veggies & items from frig
  • Made a 1/2 gallon of banana ice cream - used 4 bananas (needed using), can of evap. milk, orange juice and a bit of stevia - tasty treat
  • Had 2 funerals to attend and one I didn't get to
  • Mowed the yard, front to back
  • Had a birthday party for a 5-year-old to attend at Chuckie Cheese!  What a sensory experience!!  It was my first time there
  • Did stop and get gas while out one day to use my points before expiring.  Gas at that time was cheaper at Kroger than anywhere by a good .75/gal.  I got .80/gal. additional off with points.  Paid 3.29/gal. after discount.  Yay me!
  • Of course, I ran in Kroger (I was there) to look around.  I got 6 indiv. Greek/fruit yogurts for .48 ea., 3 lbs. seedless grapes for 1.50, and 2lbs (8 burgers) Laura's Lean ground beef for 5.91
  • Heat off most of the week - a couple mornings needed a cycle.  No AC
  • Airing house as much as possible
  • Just doing all the normal things and eating from what I have at home
Meals this past week:
Grilled goulash 'burritos' w/extra cheese
Grilled cheese sandwich and pasta/veg salad
Meatball sub and pasta/veg salad
Fish fillets and pasta/veg salad
Cheeseburger and fruit
Loaded baked potato
Pizza at party
SNACKS - frozen yogurt bars, fruit, cheese & crackers and homemade ice cream

There you go - that is my week in a nutshell.  Seemed like I was on the move a lot.  This coming week I need to leave to vote and then I have a lunch scheduled - otherwise I plan on staying put!
How was your week?  What is going on in your area and on your little homestead?
***************
FYI - Weeks ago - I had sent Linda (PP) an email asking if she was ok.  Then she made her little post about Tommy.  Thursday, I got an answer on the email that simply said "Tommy died.  Thanks for checking".  So, she is still alive (I was worried).  For some reason after I read it - it just disappeared!  I have no idea how that happened.

I hope you all have a great week head and that things are warming up for you and that 'maybe' you can get some outdoor work done or garden things planted.  Stay safe and healthy.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

This is the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalms 118:24

Lord we come forth bringing thanks this morning for all our blessings.  It is a beautiful day, and we have been given the gift of life yet again.  No matter what happens in life, I pray we see all the gifts we receive each day and give thanks.  You are always with us, even in our bleakest moments and You lift us and get us through it all.  You give us strength in all things.  Thank You for every little moment.  AMEN

  1. The snow has melted from the yard after the spring snow storms. The grass is turning green. Catkins have budded on the poplar trees. Temps have been in the high teens the past wk. Such a respite from winter. The car was cleaned & summer tires put on. The truck will get cleaned this wk. I wouldn't have got out & about last wk without that 4x4. Roofing estimates have been done. The spring yard cleanup has started. Fuel prices here are at least double what you're paying. The price includes a provincial sales tax of .52/gal + federal carbon tax of ~$1/gal. A cantelope was $7 in the local store yesterday & grapes were $6/lb. All the more reason to practice frugality. I participated in the seniors center without walls programs this past wk - exercise, gratitude group, writing for fun. Friends & I enjoyed a live concert on Friday night hosted by a popular radio personality. She was worth the price of admission. In the kitchen: baked beans; chicken salad; cabbage rolls from the freezer w/ Italian sausage & green beans; lasagna; dill pickle soup. Enjoy the coming week.

    1. YAY sounds like spring has sprung for your area. It is just such a relief. Most place are charging 4.99 for fuel around here - just the place I went wasn't up there yet and I had my grocery discount. Out state has suspended state tax on fuel for at least another 40 days.
From what I read on blogs, things are just so much more costly there.
Neat on the senior group. I bet you enjoyed the concert. It has been a long time since I have attended one.
      All your goodies sound yum!
      Have a great week ahead.

  2. Quite chilly here, frost this morning in many areas. I seem to be ok. :)

I expect the roofers to come on Tuesday to fix the roof over the back patio, to check the gutter I cannot reach, and to sweep out the tree debris from the roof places where it gets caught.

    Spring cleanup continues!

    1. Chilly mornings sure make us appreciate those warmer afternoons.
Glad you are getting the roof taken care of and the gutters. Good to be on top of that kind of stuff. It seems to always be something to tend to!
      Have a lovely week.

  3. I know this is off topic but do you remember when May 1st was “May Day” and the practice was to make a cone or little basket filled with flowers to leave on a neighbor’s doorstep, ring the bell, and scamper off? I did this as a child of the 60’s/70’s and I am a little sad that this practice has gone by the wayside. Jenny

    1. Absolutely!! I have written about that in the past. We always made little baskets and filled with wild flowers - mom usually received mine on the door. I love those old traditions. Wish kiddos still did them.
I actually thought about that Friday!
      Have a special week.

  4. Thank for the beautiful verse and prayer. I sure needed it this morning.
What a great gift-a t-shirt blanket! You did a great job.
We didn't get a frost this week up here in Northern Indiana, but we sure came very close! I'm happy my plants and flowers are flourishing. One daughter and son-in-law live next door to us, and she brought over a Redbud tree sapling for an early Mother's Day gift. A friend of ours will plant it for me this week. I've wanted a Redbud tree for a long time!
My husband receives a supplement amount from Medicare each month to put towards groceries so that went towards the grocery shopping yesterday. Pasta salad sounds really good. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

    1. You are welcome and glad it was needed. Thank you.
Glad you didn't get frost either - but it sure was chilly in the mornings! There is a redbud across the street from me and it is always so pretty. I had ones out back years ago until it died. Made me sad. FYI - those little red buds are edible and can be used in jelly and such!
Good way to use the supplement. I really like pasta/veg salad - it manages to hit several the spot every time.
      Have a great week.

  5. We received much needed rain this week. Your food sounds great! I just go to work and go home, maybe stopping once a week for groceries at the Pig located in the town I work. I made chili with dried beans, oatmeal, tuna fish sandwiches, etc. the usual but I was fed… lol. Cindy in the South

    1. Glad you got needed rain. Some weeks are just normal and nothing exciting happens. I kind of like those. Your meals sound good. This week chili would have hit the spot. Tuna salad sounds good.
      Have a good week.
