Just Enjoying the Random Things and the Simple Life

Hello all and happy Tuesday to you all.  I hope you are doing well.
It is a cloudy morning here and we have had a nice soft shower this morning already.  I was out feeding early, and I even got a little wet - it felt really good.  It is supposed to be another warm day and the humidity is pretty darn high and showers and rain off and on.  NOT complaining - I don't like winter, so the warm is appreciated and helping things grow.

I have found this to be true, though I haven't had a toxic relationship with anyone for many, many years.  Letting go of so much, can sure make life happier.  I am finally learning to just be ME - and I am enjoying all the small things and all the gifts we receive.  I am finally letting go of anxiety.

Aren't they pretty?  I love the clematis flowers and they seem to go on and on.  I have even picked a few with longer stems and placed in a vase with other flowers.  They last really well!  Nice pop of color.
More color!  Lots and lots of lilies popping open.  I have oranges and yellow all over the backyard.  Again, I pick and add to a vase.  An open one lasts about a day - but the buds just keep opening up.  So, a stem lasts a few days!
One of my cherry tomato plants.  Eek - baby tomatoes!!!!  These are such nice and healthy plants - both are in barrels and had a lot of dirt replaced this year - and they are going gangbusters.  I wish my regular tomato plants were this big.  The regular ones all came from the same cell packs, and some are big and others still smaller - they are growing, but at such different speeds.  It is odd.
It is a joy to go out and pick fresh lettuce whenever I want it.
I have zucchini and yellow squash planted - the ones in the wash tub - are HUGE.  Much bigger than the ones in the ground.  The zucchini has had a lot of male flowers to start - and the yellow have baby squash!  Pepper plants are not huge at all but have blooms.
Cuke seeds I planted about a week and a half ago - are really growing.  Yesterday I swear from morning to evening they grew a couple inches!  I plan to experiment one more time with cukes, hoping I may get some for a change.
Aaahhh, God is at work.
A simple meal from last week.  Flat bread with melted cheese - topped with a Swiss burger and yum-yum sauce and salad and ranch.  One plate and a meal all in one.  It was so good and filling.  Simple.  That is what it is all about for me.  Meals don't have to be fancy or huge - just good and filling.

Watched this across the street yesterday.  This house was just purchased a week or so ago.  They are doing a lot of things before moving in (it was truly lovely inside).  I guess a sewer line from the basement was starting to collapse.  I am sure it is original from when built (1947).  The original owners had the home until about 9 or 10 years ago.  The hole sure didn't look real wide or long, but dang it was deep!!!  All that dirt was back in the hole after repairs done, with just a little hump now (to allow normal settling).  Despite so many standing around and watching (!!) it was all complete and they were gone by 1PM.  Pretty amazing.
I got to meet the lady who will be living there yesterday.  She seems very nice and we had a little chat.  I haven't met the husband yet - just waved so far.
I am glad they have purchased it and it isn't a rental - nice to have permanent residents again.

Yesterday afternoon tons of first responders came down the street sirens blaring.  I walked down to see what was going on, because from my drive, they looked to be at the home of a friend.  It was much to do about nothing, I guess.  Someone was burning out back, and it looked like a fire - so someone called.
A couple other neighbors walked down as well - and we had an impromptu chat.  It started to lightly rain on the way back, and it felt so good.  I love standing out in a soft rain shower - just the kid in me I guess.

Sweet animals, pretty flowers and nature, nice neighbors, time to just relax whenever I want, NOT being demanding of myself, eating what I want when I want - SIMPLE LIFE and really enjoyable.
I am finally getting a handle on the simple life - I truly am.
Really, if you just let all the negative go - you can so enjoy all the simple blessings and gifts we are given.
Peace of mind is priceless!

I hope you all give a simpler life a try.  I bet you will enjoy your life a lot more.
Have a fantastic day and just slow down a little!!!!

  1. Everything in your yard looks good. Yes, to a simple life. Life can get complicated all by itself no need to add to it. I just left the farmers market and got the first blueberries of the year. I can't wait to make muffins tonight.

    1. Boy are you right - it can get complicated itself. Thanks - I just love color.
Oh yummy, that sounds so good. I hope you both enjoy them!!

  2. Cheryl, your flowers are gorgeous and the garden is coming along really well. I’m glad that you have new owners and not renters in that very pretty house across the street. Do you think that sewer line collapse repair is the responsibility of the homeowner or the city? Things like that scare me.

I’m sorry to admit that I’m a worrier by nature but I AM getting better at letting things go. I’ve also had a tremendous lack of confidence my whole life but again I’m gradually getting better.

The old feelings came back to me yesterday, however. My neighbor kindly cut back the tropical plants I couldn’t reach. There were a lot of cuttings. I thanked him, of course (drilled into me by my mom) but then started apologizing that he had to do it and I had tried but just couldn’t do it. I just felt bad. I later cut up all he had trimmed and that made me feel better. Two steps forward, one step back.

Enjoy the rest of your day, Cheryl. Barbara M.

    1. Thanks! I am glad for owners as well. We have had renters there for a while - and they just didn't care a lot. It is a sweet house. It was in the yard - so yes to homeowner. I guess they allowed for it when the sale closed - as it wasn't going to be cheap! From what I hear it was about $4,500.
I used to worry and stress a lot back in the day. I have worked on myself a lot, and recently has just been a real changing point for me. If I can't control it - well, no sense worrying. It will be.
That is what neighbors do - help each other. It sounds like you have a nice one. Some things we just can't do - we have to learn to accept that. You will get there. It is hard to admit, I will agree.

    2. Barbara M, I have the same issue.... I am a worrier and I have no confidence. Still trying hard to learn to Lean Upon the Everlasting Arms. Letting things go is so hard.

  3. A simple life is so much better than rushing everywhere, worrying about things that don't amount to a hill of beans, trying to keep up with the Joneses (whoever they are), and just running around like a chicken with her head cut off. That poster lists things to let go, just like a balloon.

The Farmer watches a guy on YouTube and he says that cucumbers will stop producing if the cukes aren't picked when they are ready and allowed to become baseball bats. I guess if they aren't picked, it is a signal to the plant to stop producing. This fellow also advocates planting in raised beds or containers. The produce seems to grow better. You have baby squash! We have baby peppers and some of the banana peppers are almost ready to harvest. Your flowers are beautiful! My neighbor has a clematis that is very pretty. She has a bad hip so she doesn't work in her garden any longer. Because of heart issues, she is not a candidate for surgery.

It is encouraging when homes are actually owned by people, not rented. The house at the "T" of our street is a rental, lots of young guys and they park in the yard, trash is scattered and generally unkempt. The fellow who lived there for several years, kept the place spic and span. (Do they still make that?) It is not uncommon for the rentals in this neighborhood to have at least six or more cars in the driveway or yard. One house several doors north of us put a large (huge) tent in the backyard, I guess for people to live in. Hmmm, I wonder about sanitation...

We were grateful for the light shower, and the somewhat cooler temp. Old people need to keep from getting too hot when working outdoors. We certainly fit that description! ha!

    1. I am all about the simpler ways and a life that represents them.
That makes sense of letting plants produce huge crops. I have not had one bit of luck the past many years with cucumbers even growing. I am now growing in a big pot far away from anything else. The plants look good so far. Glad your garden is doing so good.
We do have a couple great renters on the block - but they are older. The rest of the renters are just not as neat! They just do not seem to care at all. No investment.
5 houses have had move outs since last Oct. and 2 are on the market and 2 have sold (not as investments to rent either) - and 1 just happened, not sure what they will do. The girls that lived there were good renters.
Have I said before - I hate change!!!!
At this point any rain is good rain. Still pretty muggy and hot here. Clouds do help.

    1. It is really easy to do. We just need to slow down and not let every single thing be a priority. Slow and easy and just taking time to enjoy everything we experience and see.
      It truly is wonderful
