Smiles, Happiness and Joys (Mine)

Morning to you all.  Midweek post and hoping all are doing well.  It is around 60* this morning and kind of cloudy.  It will clear I imagine, and it is going to start getting warmer.  It sure has been nice to have the AC off and not needing heat.

Today, nothing exciting - but just a post about the things that give my joy and happiness and make me smile.  They are all very simple - kind of like me!
We tend to over complicate life today (my opinion).  I think life can be simple and enjoyable.  Turn off the negative and tune in to the positive.

*****Of course the main things are family and friends and pets ALWAYS******
Growing food, and preserving it and sharing it
Buying second hand when at all possible
Not shopping online
Cooking from scratch
Finding new uses for things I have
Being a clearance/salvage shopper
Experimenting with and creating with food
Nature
Learning new things
Teaching the older ways - and listening to nieces and nephews tell me how much they have learned
Using my pantry and freezers for supplies
Not being reliant totally on the 'system' for my basic needs
Having enough
Being healthy

These things are just who I am.  They are not something that I 'work' at - it is just me.  I learned a lot over the years from others - I had my moment in the sun that was bleak and spendy - then I resumed my true ways.
I know everyone looks at things differently and has different things that bring joy.  I do believe most of us have the 'big' things in common - family, friends, health and pets.

I guess an important one not listed above is being at peace with myself now in life.  That is so important.  That one took a while.
I know so many people who are just bitter and angry with about everything and everyone.  They project it as well.  That truly helps no one.
Being happy and appreciative spills over to others.  Spread that stuff around!

What small things make you smile or gives you joy?
I love knowing what people find joyful.

Have a wonderful day and enjoy even the smallest wonder!

  1. Everything on your list! For sure a way of life. I don't have to think about any of them, I am them.

So here's a funny for your Wednesday ladies :-)

What small things make you smile or gives you joy?

I am large breasted and the girls have drifted south in the last 5 years. It's a gorgeous cool 60F morning and I'm wearing a fabulous loose tie dye sweatshirt and sweatpants. I put on Birkenstocks and go walk up/down our street before each cup of coffee. In the dark, no bra. I've already walked 3500 steps and it's still dark.

I am LOVING this new habit🤣

  2. Aside from the "biggies" like family and friends and pets, just sitting out on the patio with my coffee each morning with the cats and watching the sunrise and hearing the birds is my greatest joy right now. And candles, of course! Haha! But I love your list. Being grateful for the smallest things just brings such a feeling of contentment for me.

    1. Great way to start the morning for sure. I sure love hearing the birds and squirrels 'chatting'. Oh, I love the candles too - the fall scents make me smile.
      Little things are big.

  3. Excellent! Things you buy won't make you happy or even satisfied. It truly is the little things in life that bring contentment.

It almost looks like it might rain but I don't think that is in the forecast. This is a laundry day and I finally got the pants and the skirts pinned in the right spot to be hemmed.

    1. Yep, not enough stuff or money in the world to buy happiness - we see that every single day.
      I love the word contentment.
It sure is lovely out. Been walking and having chats along the way - just wonderful.

  4. I have a pup that is an early riser and has to be walked on-leash (townhome living). As we take our early morning walk, I like to stop and watch the sun rise. I typically offer up a quick prayer of gratitude for granting me the gift of a new day, the beauty of the painted sunrise, the fresh air to breathe, the rain to water my garden planters ... Gratitude brings peace to my day.

    1. Lovely! Sounds blissful. Those morning gratitudes really start a day off right. Mornings are such a beautiful time of day - everything is just waking up.

  5. I'm often thankful for a good night of sleep, my home, my soft bed, my morning coffee, my little job I enjoy, my cat....... it goes on and on. I try not to be so hurried that I forget to say my thankful prayers. :)

    1. Yes mam - all wonderful things.
Those morning gratitude's and prayers just start the day off right in my book! I always say thanks before asking for for anything.

  6. Many little things.
When the neighbor little rings the doorbell & calls out, "Anybody home?"
A tidy kitchen; an unexpected phone call or text from someone; sharing a meal or other food w/ family or friends; finding a book on the to-be-read list; the changing seasons; garden harvest; the return of the bluebirds; migrating birds in the sky...I could go on.

    1. Your first one just made me smile from ear to ear.
All the rest - simple but lovely things. Love a tidy kitchen. I refuse to go to bed with anything in the sink!
These are all perfect in my opinion!

  7. It is so important to remember all of the things big and small that we should be grateful for. That is the first thing I do every morning when I wake up.

    1. It sure makes the day better. I feel so bad for those wake up all nasty and bitter.

  8. Working in the yard gives me the most feeling of happiness. Someone I used to know called it my therapy and she was right. I enjoy hearing the birds.

I also really enjoy researching and learning about new places and if I’m lucky, going there. (Just the research makes me happy even if I can’t travel there.) I’ve always loved maps. I’ve also been a news junkie all my life but I now focus on international news.

    1. I agree, working outside and hearing nature = therapy. Better than anything you spend money on!
I love how diverse we all are and all the different things that bring happiness. Simple things - yet joyful.

    2. Here is another timely one. Only Murders in the Building, season 5, started last night on Hulu and Disney+ (I am piggybacking on my old townhouse which includes “cable” in the HOA fee. I have the Disney+ app on my TV at the new house. When I sell, I’ll lose it but for now I can watch.) It is a silly show but it makes me laugh. Never a Selena Gomez fan but she is good with Steve Martin and Martin Short.

  9. Puttering around our home gives me great joy. Looking back at an area I’ve worked on makes me feel so good. I’m glad that you’re happy, Cheryl. I’ve known women who are/were bitter and it is very unbecoming. I don’t ever want to be like that.

    1. It is so nice to see something when you get it all done. Whether cleaning house, yardwork, tidying the kitchen, whatever. When it makes you smile it is all good.
It would be so easy to be bitter - but life changes every day, and so do we - we all know that. I sure wouldn't want 'nasty old lady' to be my legacy!!!

  11. What made me smile was walking into our home after 11 days away. That and the fact I could sleep in my own bed once again.

    God bless.
