Hello to all. Hope you are all well and safe. It is a chilly and frosty morning here. I have been out and fed everyone, and the fingers got cold!
Have I ever mentioned how much I hate the time change? Yeah, I have. Still do. Gosh, I am now up an hour earlier according to the clock. (Kitties want, what kitties want, and when they want it! They don't go by the clock). Then it is dark so early now (and not time for bed) - the day just seems so long!
At least it is a sunny one today. Sunrise was lovely. All is well.
I know we are now approaching the time of the year that many do not like. HOLIDAYS! Not everyone has family, or somewhere to be, or someone to be with. Many have bad memories. Days are gray and cold. People get all stressed out. It is said the be the 'saddest' time of the year for many.
Maybe, just maybe, we can all focus on the little things that makes a day better. Maybe, just maybe, we can all find something to be thankful for every day.
You can hibernate - but still find something each day to be grateful for.
Celebrate your thankfulness.Small things - add up to a big thing! A happy heart!!!!
- Support a good cause in some way
- Donate time
- Donate things you no longer use - maybe a woman's shelter or a homeless shelter
- Donate old towels or buy food for an animal shelter
- Connect with your spirituality
- Handwrite a letter to someone
- Slow down and appreciate your surroundings - your pets, nature, a kind neighbor, a sweet stranger, a tasty meal, a warm bed, another day!
- Create something
- Reward good service - give a bigger tip or give a kind word
- Keep a journal or a list all month - write something each day
- Focus on gratitude = If you focus on gratitude more and more, the negative seems to melt away
- Hug more, say I love you more, smile more, just BE more
Don't be pressured with tradition. You don't have to have a traditional meal - eat whatever you like. You don't have to decorate. You don't have to spend a fortune - it is more about the 'meaning of the seasons', and the people.
The earth is beginning to quiet, so should you. You don't have to be stressed and panicky. Just do what makes you happy. It is OK!
I am so thankful for all of you - you make my life better.
Have a wonderful and special day.

Thankful. Grateful. Blessed.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, the time for Mother Earth to rest in the northern hemisphere has arrived. And so it is for us. I marvel at the recorded history that humans would rise and rest with the sun and the moon. Is it because they labored all day with the sun that their bodies could rest as much as 14 hours with the moon?
For the first time ever last year, we went to a buffet eatery for Thanksgiving dinner and then a movie. It was great fun. The staff were positive and upbeat, other diners pleasant. We had long talked of doing it and at last we did! I highly recommend doing it once.
Happy Tuesday everyone. 💗💗
Your first line says it all!
DeleteYes, even the animals know what to do as winter approaches and then gets here. The insects as well. We should follow suit and do the same, but people seem to have that goal of never ending work and consumption. Animals get enough - not so it seems with people.
I have never gone out to a restaurant for a holiday dinner, but I wouldn't have a problem with it. No fuss no muss!
And we all are thankful for you and appreciate all you do. You are the type of person I would like to have for a friend IRL. Compassionate, trustworthy and smart!
ReplyDeleteEcclesiastes 3:1 says "To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven." We see this with the change of the seasons. I think this refers not only to the weather changes, but the changes in our lives. Elle brings up a good point about people working and resting with the sun and moon.
I especially like your comment about slowing down and appreciating your surroundings. IMHO, people need to slow down and smell the roses. Rushing about can cause stress and that in turn affects your interactions with others. Have you ever looked at the faces of people who are in a hurry and are harried? Scowling and unhappy.
We were in Gordon Food Service down the road yesterday, and the young man who was working the register was so nice and professional, that I told him what a nice young man he is and his mom and grandma should be proud of him.
Today I am grateful for the sunshine and mild temps. The sun shining in the windows gives a glow to the house. I am grateful for a washer and dryer that function properly. I am grateful for your blog and the ladies who read it and comment.
Enjoy your day!
Yes, a season for everything - everything in life.
DeleteI do love the idea of slowing and just appreciating things. You are so right about people. I am a big people watcher - and there seems to be so much anger, stress and sadness out there. I am forever that lady that walks through the store singing the songs on the overhead aloud and talking to everyone.
The weather is divine. I just came in to rest, got a lot done. I even opened a window.
I am thankful for all the handmaidens we use to help us in every day life - thy sure make it easier.
Glad you are here.
We are thankful for you and your blog!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you. I hope you are feeling some better!!!
DeleteHope you're doing well Slugmama. I miss seeing your posts.
DeleteGreat thoughts today, Cheryl. Thank you is always the first prayer of the day for me. I love this time of year and all of the holidays, but we tend to do them a little different than the US 'norm'. I don't like hustle and bustle anymore and our holidays focus more on family, friends and home than anything else.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, thank you is my first prayer every morning as well. Also, when I am out feeding early, the sun is just coming up and it is always so beautiful, and I always pray out there as well. God is so good.
DeleteBless you, I think you have got it right. Family is my first priority - could not care less about the hustle and bustle.
I am thankful to be alive. As far as holidays, I have mixed feelings. No real family so holidays are not the same but I try to celebrate. I love my tree! (Kmart, at least 25 years old.) It’s not pre-lit and every year I say I’m going to buy a new one but once I get the lights and decorations on, all of my frustrations with it melt away.
ReplyDeleteUntil the end of her life, my mom woke up singing. I’m not quite there yet but, like you Cheryl, I do make small talk to people in the stores and try to compliment someone on something - even if it’s just nail polish.
My new heat is on and it seems to be working. I was happy to have a comfortable room to wake up in, instead of a chilly one. :)
ReplyDelete"Thank you" is my early morning song as well. Although sometimes I'd appreciate the cat not being quite so eager... like with this time change. She doesn't read the clock but her tummy says "feed me!" so there she is, head butting me before it's time to get up! :)
Yes, Cheryl, thank you for this site. A friendly place on the World Wide Web. We need more of them!

Congratulations on your new heating system! I don’t know where you live but having enough heat is a medical necessity in my opinion.
DeleteGreat post. it is so easy to forget to be grateful.
ReplyDeleteGreat thoughts, I am thankful for you.
ReplyDeleteTake care, Louise
