Weekly Wrap Up 11/30

Hello to all.  Hoping you are safe and well and warm!  Today we say good-bye to November.  Goodness sakes, 25 until Christmas and 31 days until a new year!  It just doesn't seem possible.  It feels it - at least in my neck of the woods.  Baby, it is cold out there.  We finally got some snow yesterday, but it wasn't until after dark - we got about 1.5 inches+ here, then we warmed overnight and it rained.  So, most of the snow is gone - just some white patches.  It is WINDY!!!!!  I really am over the windy days.  Crazy winds.  That just makes it feel so much colder.  The temps are now falling again.  It doesn't look like we will reach even the freezing mark this week.  My area really lucked out - as I know many had tons of snow.
Tomorrow starts meteorological winter here in the upper hemisphere.  I think it is here!!!  Some in the south are beginning summer! 😲

I hope all that celebrate Thanksgiving had a wonderful time with family and/or friends.    I sure did.  NO shopping at all for this gal.  I stayed home all weekend.  I did do a little decorating - not a lot, after all it is just me and Bitsy.  I don't have a lot of company - although there will be the kids coming home at some point for Christmas.  I just like my tree lights, even if the tree is teeny tiny!

My frugal week:
  • I sliced and cooked up a pound of "fresh/recently harvested" sausage my nephew gifted me.  Yum - it is tasty.  I did freeze most of the fried-up slices.  I rec. 3 lbs. - the other 2 got put in freezer
  • I got the spikes of the pampas grass all down.  Those things were tall - 8' to 10' tall.
  • I raked the remainder of the leaves before the rain and wind hit again, earlier in the week.  Then on Friday I cleaned the drive again -- as leaves had blown and collected there again
  • I got my jerky and summer sausage order on Monday.  I call them direct.  Last year I almost didn't get it in time for the holidays, they were so busy.  I ordered a couple days earlier this year and it was on my porch less than 48 hours after ordering!!! (these are gifts)
  • I did go out the first of week to fill my gas tank for the month.  With the little amount I needed and my discount - I spent $6!
  • While getting gas (in Kroger lot), I ran in to look for basket stuffers at the store.  Got a few things for gifts. I also found a discount bag of smaller summer squash for 1.50.    When I came home and unloaded, I had cupcakes that I did not buy!  I called and told them - they said keep them.  It was 2 containers worth $10
  • Did a root touch up
  • Put out holiday door decor and flags while warmer - then yesterday I put up a few things indoor
  • Froze 2 bananas that were looking sad
  • Baked up my turkey breast - it turned out so juicy and tender.  Enjoying it for meals and sandwiches!
  • Plugged back in the mini frig downstairs to store the jerky and any extra supplies for the holiday
  • Brought home several delicious sides from my nieces.  She sure cooks a ton of food!
  • I did a fix on the toilet - the flapper chain broke
  • Washed out 2 - 1 gallon bags niece sent things home in.  I never buy those so nice to have around!
  • Made a batch of biscuits
  • Paid everything I had
Meals this past week:  (easy)
Chimichanga (freezer) and Mex. fried rice
Chili (freezer)/cheese topped baked potato, fruit
Pizza (freezer) and salad
Stoup (freezer) and crackers
Thanksgiving w/family
Turkey and leftovers
Biscuits with turkey gravy and sliced turkey, salad

That is my week in a nutshell!  Nothing big or exciting, just doing what needs done.  Crazy to think that last Sunday and Monday I got to air the house a little in the afternoons and now it is so cold.  It sure changes quickly.  We had so much wind and rain earlier in the week.  The outdoor kitties were not happy!
I still have shopping to do - but this year it will be simpler.  I also have to make jelly - that just dawned on me today! Time to get busy!
I hope you all are safe - so many places got a lot of snow.  Stay in if possible if in those areas.

How was your week?  Did you enjoy your holiday and a long weekend?  Did you do any shopping this weekend?  Any great deals at the grocery?
Give us a shout out.  Always look forward to hearing from everyone.  It has been fun seeing 'new' folks post this week!
Have a safe and healthy week ahead.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

"Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation."
Isaiah 12:2

Lord, as we approach the holiday season and the celebrations of Jesus, I do know many people are alone and they are sad for various reasons.  Please hold them all close and let them know they are loved so much and they need to put their faith into You.  Heal those in need - in body and soul.
Help us to all be kinder and fuller of love for all others.  Let kindness rain over all.
Thank You for our many blessings and for each and every day we have.  May we celebrate each day and all experiences.  AMEN

  1. It was a lovely Saturday - lunch and visit and singing with an out-of-town friend! We only see him once a year when he comes for some special event at a local conference center.

On a sad note, a friend of mine has been hacked - phone *number* stolen, so she is at severe risk because we do everything with phone now, banking, credit, all. She gets (so far) AI runaround when she tries to contact her phone company. I wouldn't know what to do. Very scary.

    1. So glad you got to see an old friend. That makes it even more special, that you see once a year.
That is scary stuff. THAT is why I do NOTHING like banking on the phone. I do call a couple places and pay those bills, but do not use the computer for any of that stuff. I wouldn't know what to do either.
Hope you have a lovely week.

  2. Cheryl, I like your weekly wrap up. Part of my Sunday routine - bring the coffee back to bed & reflect on the past week & give thanks for this good life. -24C this morning; the coldest temp so far. It was a relatively quiet week with some snow removal & baking - cranberry cornmeal cookies. I accompanied a friend to a medical appt in a nearby city so did some Christmas shopping & visited w/ my sister. The truck is repaired & I don't want to think about the cost anymore. I participated in 4 SCWW (Seniors' Center Without Walls) sessions this past week: Finding Your Joy, Working Through Grief, Gratitude Group & Writing for Fun. A SIL says: there's always a list of things left undone so I finally caught up on some housework & cleaned some summer shoes to put away for the winter. In the kitchen: rice pudding; penne pasta w/ tomato sauce, bok choy, Italian sausage. A chicken is ready to go in the oven. Have a good week.

    1. I am glad you enjoy it. It always sounds boring to me - but we all do different stuff. Sounds like a nice way to start your week.
Nice to shop in a different location. That sounds kind of nice on the SCWW. Good things to ponder. You betcha, there is always something to do. Work really never ends.
      Enjoy that chicken. Stay warm!!!!!
      Have a great week.

  3. We have gotten about 8 inches of snow. It is still coming down and we will get a tiny bit more later in the week. We have quite a bit of snow removal to take care of, but 2 of our neighbors have already started on it for us. We didn't even ask them, but they know my husband can't do as much as he used to. What a blessing! I am just so grateful for the choice to work from home 3 days a week (it is a 45-minute commute). I will be choosing to go to the office on days when we don't have any snow. By the end of the year I will be working from home full time. Yay! Our son-in-law helped my husband fix his truck yesterday. We are planning to get it into shape and selling it, going down to one vehicle, which will be a little bit of an adjustment. I made soup from Thanksgiving turkey bones and we also had turkey sandwiches, along with all the leftovers from Thanksgiving. I dug up some fruit and greens from the bottom of the freezer for smoothies. I'm on a mission not to waste any food. The Bible verse and prayer were much-needed today. Blessings to you, too!

    1. ICK - that is a lot of snow. What wonderful neighbors you have.
Good for you on getting to work from home some - and then work at home full time later on.
It is an adjustment with one vehicle - but really a savings on so many fronts.
Good use of those leftovers. I love that people are more cautious about using IT UP! We all need to be more mindful.
Hope you have a safe and fantastic week.

  4. We got a lot of snow here and it blew all day long. I have strange drifts and swaths of clear spaces in my lane and parking area. It then rained and so the snow is heavy to shovel. I cleared the front deck, walk area and a path for my dog. This week is predicted to be more of the same. I don't like this weather at all but know I can't change it so am trying hard to just go with the flow.
Lots of Thanksgiving food and still have a few leftovers frozen. I might make soup today, I am as decorated as it's going to get.
I have a hard time "feeling the holidays". No shopping in store or online.
    Have a good week!

    1. Sorry you got so much snow. We are predicted for a little more this week, not a lot. I am with you on not liking it - but que' sera, sera. Not much we can do.
Good job saving the food leftovers and soup sound perfect. I know a lot of people just don't feel the holidays - and that is OK. It isn't for everyone. You do you.
Have a beautiful week. Stay safe.

  5. My toilet completely broke on Wednesday morning. There is no fixing it. The plumber is coming Monday afternoon and I was thinking about getting a new toilet anyways. So now is a good time. My Christmas present to me… lol. I am staying home today bc I only drive in rain if I have to go to work.
I am so impressed with your gas usage! I spend almost $10 a day on gas four to five days a week because my work is an hour one way. These are rough country roads and I have to drive slow because of all the deer. I am going to bake chicken to eat with my leftover baked pumpkin. I have enough pumpkin to last at least two weeks… lol I froze part of it. It will be in the upper 50’s here today so chilly for us in the Deep South central part of the state. Cindy in the South

    1. Well what a gift! LOL. But heck, if you need it. Sorry it broke.
I hate driving in bad weather.
Well, I don't go out much. Usually a 1/4 tank or less a month. I would hate to spend as much as you on gas.
Upper 50's sounds wonderful today! Shorts weather!
      Enjoy that chicken and pumpkin.
      Have a special week.

  6. I’m glad that you didn’t get much snow, Cheryl! I hope it stays away.
I’m saving two pieces of “advice” that I read or watched this week. One on positivity and good health was from Dick van Dyke, who is about to turn 100. The other was from the late Charlie Munger (partner of Warren Buffett) on knowing when it’s time to stop focusing on additional savings and instead focus on making senior years more enjoyable and comfortable.
My Black Friday shopping was to buy a 3-month subscription to Audible for .99 each month. I’ve already used it to get a book that is unavailable on Libby.
