Hello to all and a happy November. Hard to believe, isn't it? We are a cool morn here, in the mid 40's. It will get to upper 50's today and back to the mid 60's this week. Not going to complain at all!
On Monday, I picked a rose! I am sure it is probably the last one of the year - but it is still smelling sweet and looks pretty, after all these days.
I looked out on Nov. 1 (yesterday) and there was a robin in the birdbath! I haven't seen a robin in 2 or 3 months around here. What a treat.
I changed all my clocks, except the bedroom clock. When Bitsy comes to say "get up & feed me" - the clock still looks the same. It's a mind thing I play every fall. I will eventually change it, but I leave it for a while. My head says it is 6:30AM - but actually 5:30. The animals don't change their habits - just us silly humans.
Those little things are HUGE sometimes. The pretty leaves, the birds passing through, the crunch of an apple, children laughing, hugging someone - all blessings.
My frugal week:
- Last Sunday, I did run to Kroger for a weekend special. I got a turkey breast for .99/lb. I spent about 6.50 for it, and it will sure be some good eating and several meals and sandwiches! Heck, I can't buy lunchmeat that cheaply. I also got 5 huge peaches in the 1.50 clearance bin, and 3 caramel apples for 1.50 total. They are generally 3.99 each!
- I filled my tank while out - saved .60/gallon due to the 4X points you can get on Fridays. I spent very little last month - but those extra points sure do help. Even had a coupon for 300 points if spending $30 as well last month.
- Changed out yard flags
- Some walks - didn't get them in every day, but got other exercise in yard
- Re-did my weather stripping on the front door. No more gaps!
- Did a major dust and vacuum this week. (deep cleaning)
- Washed the woodwork and windowsills
- Fixed (straightened) and rehung a couple of valance rods
- Had visitors stop by a couple times this week. My old neighbor that moved to KY was in town for Dr. so stopped by for a few. Sent them home w/ a bunch of tomatoes
- Pulled out more garden - have about 1/3 left to do. Did more cutting back of flowers
- Mowed, trimmed and mulched the entire yard
- Put the area rug back in the kitchen - to keep tootsies warmer
- Actually, got to air the house 2 or 3 times this week (in afternoons).
Meals this week:
Double cheeseburger and fresh veggies
Naan bread pizza (bread from freezer)
Broccoli/cheese soup and tomato sandwich
Air fried corn on cob and fish and fries
Broc/cheese soup over rice w/sour cream & cheese
Salad topped burritos - supreme (homemade)
Pork chop strips, mashed pots, slaw
Another sort of quiet week, just doing THE stuff! I seem to manage to keep busy, not sure what all I really do some days. Has anyone gotten any good deals this past week? How are you doing with winterizing and getting ready for the new season (whatever season you are in)?
I sure hope you are all well and safe. Thinking of all of you - many missing for a while.
Prayers to all for health and safety and prayers of healing for all in need.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord.
Psalms 31:24
Thank You Lord for all our many blessings this week. Thank you for Your guidance and love for us. Please help us each to gain our strength from Your love and from our faith. Strength in everyday matters is often hard, but we know with You in our lives, we can get through all things. I pray that You lay Your healing hands upon all that are in need. Amen

AMEN! Thank you for today's prayer Cheryl.
ReplyDeleteWe've had several frosts already. So glad we put the gardens to bed and did our winterizing before hubster's huge surgery. And then yesterday? It was a glorious 73F. You can bet I took several walks totaling 7 miles by sundown!
Have a Blessed Sunday everyone :-)
You betcha.
DeleteOnly a couple frosty mornings here so far. Sunshine sure makes things feel warmer and nicer. Glad you got so much walking in yesterday.
May your week be blessed.
It's definitely fall with below freezing temps overnight. The car windshield is heavy with frost in the morning. The winter tires were put on this week in anticipation of the snow that is sure to come. The wood stove is lit every evening. 4 cords of firewood will arrive this week. Ringuette season is underway for my granddaughters. I was able to watch them play in the city (2 hrs away) last Sunday & will watch them there again later today. My friend who has MS suffered a hairline fracture in her lower tibia on Mon so there have been hospital visits. Her fortitude & tenacity serve as inspiration to me. Halloween cookies were decorated for the neighbor little, the only trick or treater to come to my door, dressed as Rapunzel. And last night she had her first sleepover at my house. A success. In the kitchen: spaghetti squash w/ tomatoes & cheese, pork chops, the last of the hamburger soup, BLT, baked beans. Have a good week, Cheryl.
ReplyDeleteYou sound like you are ready for winter. I hope it doesn't get to cold and snowy.
DeleteSorry for your friend. Some people sure can weather through anything it seems. Shame they have to - but strength is a virtue.
Your little neighbor sounds like such a joy and you sure are a good neighbor to her.
Enjoy you day and have a great week.
Fabulous Scripture and prayer! We need to be thankful for every blessing we receive. Also thankful for when things don't turn out the way we wanted...we may have been spared heartache. Love the picture with the saying...so true.
ReplyDeleteWe still have roses blooming and there is one bright red rose on the climber just outside my office window. That poor rose did so poorly this summer and now she has one last bloom. The lavender and the salvia are still blooming also.
Every day we have above freezing is one more day without bundling up. Need to check furnace filter, which probably needs changing.
Enjoy your day! See you Tuesday!
Yes mam - we often dodge a bullet and don't even realize it.
DeleteI have begonias and mallow still blooming, oh and geraniums. This was such a big pretty rose.
The last hoorah!
I agree, it can stay this way until spring in my book!
Have a wonderful week.
Your weather sounds lovely. It's too cold (for me) at home, and too hot for me here in Arizona. Though the nights are starting to cool down quickly, into the 60's overnight.
ReplyDeleteThat you're still picking flowers seems amazing to me. Enjoy!
It really is nice - sure not going o complain. I have seen much worse. You will be in a nice spot soon for daytime as well.
DeleteIt amazes me I am still picking flowers too.
Enjoy your 'new home' for the moment. Have a great week.
We went to Kroger yesterday to get some good deals on cheese, butter, yogurt, and some other markdowns. We also stopped at the grocery outlet and found deals on turkey sausage and turkey pepperoni. A whole turkey made into lunch meat is such a great deal compared to the price of deli meat! I think Aldi has whole turkey for 77 cents a pound right now, but may go even lower closer to Thanksgiving. They have their onions on sale right now for $1.65 for the three pound bag, so I’ll be stopping in there to get some. I’ve not seen them that low in price for a while. Sounds like a good week for you. I hope this next one is too. Stay safe and warm.
ReplyDeleteThe weekend deals at Kroger can be pretty good. I didn't go this weekend. Deli meat is outrageous in price. Yes, I will my own baked turkey and ham, well before deli meats. I haven't stopped in the deli since Glen passed. I look, that is all.
DeleteGreat deal on onions. I need to run to Aldi and look around, it has been a while, and they do have some good seasonal deals.
Have a lovely week.
Found some meat bargains on flash foods and mark downs at Aldi's.
ReplyDeleteGardens are all done, had our family salsa making day yesterday, over 80 pints and still a few frozen tomatoes to work up later.
I have about 3/4 of a bushel of green tomatoes ripening inside, will become juice/sauce at some point.
Family is working on leaves at my house today and while I know it will need done again, it helps to do it in batches. I love living in a woods but when the leaves start piling up it is not great.
Firewood to be delivered sometime this week which means days of stacking, but it is not hard and good exercise.
I leave seed heads on my plants for the birds and wildlife and I don't have every leaf removed for the same reason.
My red rambler rose is still flowering and against the fall leaves looks beautiful. I am trying to slow down and enjoy this Fall season, I dislike winter so much trying to put it off as long as possible.
JC
Good for you on deals. That is a lot of salsa - nice it is a family event. I like to break up leaves into batches as well. There will be more, but for now I am good. I bet it is beautiful in the woods.
DeleteWildlife do love some cover and the insects do as well. We need them all. I bet the rose is lovely. Fall is such a pretty time, good for you to wanting to slow your pace a bit. I despise winter - but it is necessary.
Have a super week. Happy stacking!
Cheryl, you accomplished a lot this week, especially cleaning. It is chilly here for us, in the 50s at night.
ReplyDeleteI was able to get the peanut butter I wanted, 28 oz. Jif B1G1 for $5.75 so about .10/oz. which is pretty good.
My handyman could not make it on Friday so I still need to get the exhaust fan replaced and a few other things at the old house. On Tuesday work will begin on the shower at my new house and I’m dreading the disruption and mess but it has to be done.
Making lunch today, I looked out the window and saw something moving in the yard. I went out to get a better look and it was a big iguana. Never saw that before! About 12-15 inches and mostly green but with some blue/black markings. I took a photo as close as I could but it blends into the grass so much that it’s hardly visible. It headed (slowly) to the plants in the back of the yard.
That is a good deal on PB.
DeleteHopefully they will get to the shower and do it quickly. So many places advertise a day or 2 installation. Hopefully it goes quickly.
Oh goodness, that would be something to see in one's yard. That is decent sized too. Probably to get somewhere warm or in the sunshine. I remember seeing lizards everywhere in Florida years ago when visiting. They scurried so fast.
Have a good week - hope it all goes well!!
I made a huge pot of dried pinto beans chili using the recipe from The Prudent Homemaker Website. Her recipes are still up but she hasn’t posted in about a year. I had on hand several cans of diced tomatoes I used along with Cajun seasonings. I was out of peanut butter ( a big no no for me since I generally act like I am five years old and take a pbj sandwich to work for lunch.) Since the southeastern part of the state is a big peanut producer and I am not very far from there, I tell myself I am supporting local farmers. I bought a huge box of $10 turnip greens from a local farmer and it took me the better part of an afternoon to wash those greens outside.I eat a lot of greens so this will last me a month. I bagged and froze them and I estimate I have enough for three or four servings every week for four weeks. I cook the actual turnips separately, roasting them with potatoes, onions, and carrots. I ate a huge greens serving already and the greens were delicious! I had a large bag of potatoes I bought a week or two ago and took a box with the shipping clippings and buried the potatoes in the box and set them in a cooler area of my house. I had set the heat at 64, but it didn’t come on except for less than a minute, so I have unplugged it again, and will use it when it finally gets cold here. Cindy in the South
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned pinto beans - a big pot of those sounds good to me. Been a while. I bet your chili was yummy. I really like greens of all kinds. That will be tasty over the next month or so. I always have PB on hand as well - sure comes in handy for a quick meal.
DeleteNice that you haven't really used heat much. I do in the mornings, then it goes off.
Have a super week.
Just the usual week here, with me trying to use up, wear out, and make do. Today I refilled the spice jars, and got a good look at what I will need to purchase in that area. Worked on grocery list and it is a big one this time around. Hopefully since many items are on sale it won't cost me an arm and a leg.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I hear that - it sure feels good to use what you have.
DeleteNow is a great time to stock up with sales coming on for the holidays. Hope you find some great deals.
Have a lovely week.
It's supposed to warm up a bit this coming week, and I hope to be outdoors in the sunshine! Never did get the impatiens taken care of and those pots need to be emptied and put away. They're so heavy, I don't know how I can move them!
ReplyDeleteMet with my medicare man - big changes this year in the drugs they cover. Fortunately my doctor is still In Network so I don't need to change insurance.
Still waiting on the electrician for my new heating setup. Maybe Monday.
Have a blessed week, y'all. :)
