Weekly Wrap Up 11/9

Good morning, all.  Hope you are well and safe this Sunday.  It is a chilly morning here.  We had rain overnight.  Cold weather is coming for a few days.  We will be below freezing a few nights, then back to the 60's!  I see some of you gals up north of here, have gotten some of the nasty S word this morning!  ICK!!

Early in the week, I saw several robins around - they drank and took baths.  I guess not a lot of water holes available for them.  One morning I saw a bunny running like the wind down the alley! There was nothing after it - but it sure was running fast.  Yesterday morning I heard a noise in the tree as I was feeding Licorice - figured it was a squirrel coming to eat.  Nope, there was a racoon in the tree - looking at me.  Haven't seen one in a while.  Oh nature - it sure is something.  Beautiful sunrises and sunsets some days, the huge full moon this week - God sure is amazing.
My tulip poplar is getting close to being leaf free - but the maple tree is still loaded with leaves.  Color has become apparent all over, but with the wind and rain many are now falling.

Just finishing up some stuff this week.
My frugal week:
  • My key fob has been sluggish for a while.  Thought it might need a new battery - but I took it apart and cleaned really well.  Soft toothbrush gently over the circuit board, then cleaned all the undersides of the buttons (they were dirty!).  Works like a charm now!
  • LOTS of laundry in cold and hanging to dry
  • Finally got all the garden out and the garden cleared and cleaned.  Down to dirt
  • Cut down the big row of peonies and that is all cleaned up
  • Got to air the house 3 different times this week
  • I did a deep clean of the Ninja blender - I use it every day and wash it every time - but I used a rag and a butter knife and a toothbrush to get in all the crevices and such
  • Cleaned out the last of the sedum out front and cut back the last of front bed
  • Walked the alley 2 times and picked up trash.  People don't follow the rules of the city when it comes to trash day and on windy days and full carts - things go everywhere - Grrrrr
  • Hooked up the heaters for the water bowls and birdbath - for a few days
  • Made up a batch of Mex. mix for a couple meals.  1/3 lb. grd. pork, garbanzo beans, corn, homemade salsa, taco seasoning - tasty
  • Changed out handbags this week
  • I did run to Kroger to look at chuck roasts on sale - super fatty - didn't get.  I did get 5 lbs. of apples for $5, extra cat food, and grapes .99lb.
  • Using Soda Stream a lot for bubbly fruit drinks
Meals this week:
Taco pasta bowl
2 cheese (cream & cheddar), tomato roasted Naan and salad
Grilled fish (on G. Foreman), green beans and fried potatoes
Fish sandwich, mac n cheese & tomatoes
Nachos (using above mixture)
Fried chicken and salad
Homemade 'chimichangas' in air fryer (used above mix), salad
Snacks: Apple w/PB, fruit, Cinnamon/sugar toast, cheese
Still eating garden tomatoes every day at some time during the day!

There you go - just finishing up outside stuff and getting ready to stay indoors for a while.  How was your week?  Are you done outdoors?  Did you find any good deals this week?
Let us know what is going on.  Love hearing from each of you.

I pray you are all safe and healthy and that your families are doing well.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

When I am afraid, I put my trust in thee.
Psalms 56:3

Thank You for this new day and all of our many blessings.  Please give us all strength and guidance we need to face what is ahead.  Let us all keep our eyes on You and Your word, and not all the evil of the world.  Help us each to not be anxious, worried, or stressed.  May Your love, joy and peace fill us all this week.  Amen

  1. We are supposed to get a dusting of snow tonight and tomorrow. I love snow, so long as I don't have to drive on it. The full moon this week has been absolutely beautiful.

I found 1.3 gallon jugs of Lowe's brand Windex on clearance for $1.92. I got clearanced orange juice at half price, Halloween candy for 70% off which most has been put up for Christmas, and several markdown bags of bell peppers. I stocked up on eggs at 1.99 for 18 count. I do a lot of baking and they do freeze well for that. I used my 15% off purchase coupon at Ollie's. I found amazing deals on Amazon Haul on toilet paper, paper towels, paper plates, a pair of Skechers pants, and a couple of presents. I went to a book sale at the library and found my youngest a book for his birthday for .50.

I won half a dozen free mini donuts from a new local shop. I used a couple of my free McDonald's Monopoly items (100% free as I entered through free codes online no purchase required).

    1. WOW Jess, what a great week you had. Such great deals. You just prove the point it pays to be on the lookout and keep out eyes open. Such wonderful finds.
I forgot to mention I did get the eggs too when at Kroger. have more than enough now! You are right, they do freeze well.
      Have another super week.

  2. I too saw some birds drinking from a puddle in our driveway this week. Our red maple tree is empty of leaves at the top, but still full at the bottom. I sweep them off the back porch and steps several times each day. They are hazardous when they get wet from the rain, so I keep them swept off. Good deal on your key fob cleaning. We have a cat water fountain and I clean it with a small brush from time to time when it gets sluggish like that. I’m glad you were able to get your garden cleared out, so you can mark that off your to do list in preparation for winter. So nice of you to pick up the trash in the alley. I need to walk the road and do that here as people throw litter in the road, unfortunately. Your meals sound delicious as usual and sounds like another good week for you, Cheryl. 😊

    1. Poor birdies I guess they know where to go. You are so right, wet leaves can be so hazardous.
glad to get outside work pretty much done - now to indoors!
I get so sad that people just toss trash around, and don't care if someone else does the work. Just think how nasty it would be if no one picked up.
Thanks, hope you have a great one.

  3. Oh, yes, we got the S word this morning and we are supposed to get lots more tonight, but it shouldn't (hopefully) last because it's supposed warm back up later in the week. I feel so blessed that I can choose which days of the week I can work from home. We have an alley as well and you are right; people just don't care enough to clean up after themselves. We clean it regularly. The chimichangas sound really good. I think I will try it out this week. Yum! The only thing I still have growing in the garden is kale. I made a couple of salads with it this week with sweet potatoes, pumpkin seeds, apples and dried cranberries. It was very good. Before cleaning out the tomato plants, I picked all the green tomatoes and put them in my kitchen window. When they turn red, I cook with them or freeze them. They make the best tomato soup. I sure needed that Bible verse and prayer. Thanks for sharing it!

    1. Oh sorry you got S!!! We might get a dusting here, dang on lots! Luckily it all won't last too long. I guess we need to get ready for winter.
I thought I'd try and they turned out crispy and yummy. I added lots of cheese inside as well. I even had an extra one I froze for later. They were decent size.
I am still eating on the tomatoes I brought in green - all keep ripening. Love it. The salad sounds yummy.
Glad that the verse and prayer spoke to you.
      Have a wonderful week.

  4. Your Mexican mix sounds really good, Cheryl!

Mostly I stayed home this week with the shower contractors. It will take about another week but I think they are doing a good job. Everything was harder because this is an older home and the walls are plaster, not drywall, and the drain was cast iron. The toilet had to removed and is still in the garage. (I have a second bathroom.) It is framed, prepared and waterproofed and the new shower pan and shower valve are done. Tiling starts tomorrow. It is a father and his 22-year-old son. Very detail oriented. Separately I asked them if they would move a big piece of furniture for me when they are finished and they said yes.

I bought about $18 in groceries at Aldi and paid the property tax bills on both houses. Saved $282 by paying now instead of waiting until the actual due date in March.

While hanging around the house, I did clean the screened porch thoroughly from top to bottom. I had let this go during the hot summer months.

Two weeks ago I found out that a spot on my face was skin cancer (not melanoma, thankfully). I had it removed on Friday and I’m supposed to “rest” for about a week. Today I’ll remove the pressure bandage and can take a shower. I need to become more diligent about using and reapplying sun block.

    1. It was quite tasty. Sometimes I just start throwing things together and hope!
I hear on plaster walls - they sure do make a job harder. Nice that they are making such good progress. Glad you have a family man and son taking care of it.
Good deal on groceries and bill paying,
Glad it is healing and nothing more serious. Keep an eye on yourself and be careful.
      Have a lovely week.

  5. Snow has arrived. The anticipation is worse than the actual event although this wet sticky snow is hard to get around in. The 4x4 truck is at the mechanic for some major suspension repair in time for winter. 4 cords of wood were delivered on Tues so there's much stacking to be done; 3 hrs in & more to go. There weren't enough tarps to cover the pile & the sticky snow & ice on it adds to the time it takes. I'm waking far too early & watching too many Hallmark
Christmas movies! Just over 6 wks 'til Christmas. Butterscotch confetti squares, eatmore bars & cranberry snack cookies were made for the local assisted living craft sale yesterday. I brought home poppy seed cake & cabbage rolls. The last of the tomatoes were roasted & soup was made. Friends were hosted for lunch one day. Also in the kitchen: lasagna, pork chops & saurkraut w/ mashed potatoes, colcannon, hamburgers, lettuce salad. And with that, the first week of November is in the books.

    1. Sorry you got the nasty stuff as well. Glad the truck is getting fixed in time. Boy, good timing on the wood.
LOL - can't hardly believe Christmas is that close. I haven't watched Hallmark in years - they just all got to be the same to me. Mmmm yummy sounding snacks.
Chops and kraut w/mashed sounds so good. Mom used to make a dish with kraut - topped with chops and baked it. Oh goodness, that was good. It all sounds good.
      Have a beautiful week.

  6. Yesterday we sang hymns all day at the local church. I was sent home with extra fruit salad and several servings of chicken tidbits! Good day. :)

Are people here comfortable with medicare advantage online accounts? I like paper records and I don't want to have to print everything out. So I didn't finish setting up that acount. It's worrisome when I can lay things out and take a good look at stuff. A computer screen is not the same.

    1. Sounds like a good day. Nice that you got to bring home goodies too.
I don't do doctor stuff hardly ever - so haven't used. I agree with paper and not online. I am that way about everything. Hopefully someone can help.
      Have a great week.

    2. I have a Medicare supplement rather than an advantage plan. Like you, I prefer to get my statements on paper. I do have an account set up with Medicare.gov but I don’t have an online account with the supplement company.

  7. Excellent devotional! The book of Psalms is chock full of encouraging and comforting verses. We definitely need the Father's strength and guidance to wade through all that is going on these days.

We have been spoiled by the mild fall weather. Today is more typical, which was bound to happen. I do like the thought of the temps going back up into the 60's. The Farmer is going to make a tour of the Nance Ranch to see what else needs to be put up before freezing weather. The sheets are in the washer but a little too cold to hang on the line. I remember my mom hanging laundry out in all kinds of weather. Some had to be strung up in the house to dry.

I go to the dentist on Tuesday to get the ball rolling on getting a crown put on a broken tooth. Haven't had any major dental problems in years.

Enjoy your day, you and Bits. Looks like a day to curl up with a blanket and read. Or nap...

    1. We sure have been spoiled. Yes, I am thrilled it will go back up before weeks end. I have heard a decent month is in store.
om used to hang out laundry in the cold too - stiff sheets! She also had lines she hung in the house in the super cold - oh the humidity in the house on those days.
Good luck at the dentist - I hate those guys!
Thanks - a good day to stay in for sure. Watching cooking shows at the moment.
      Have an awesome week.

  8. Yes the arctic air is supposed to sweep down here also ! Luckily, the temps are supposed to rebound to in the 70’s by Thursday and Friday I think. I made turnip greens soup with turnip greens, cabbage, chicken, little bit of carrots and tomatoes. I made a bit pot of pinto beans from dried beans. I will use them in the pinto beans taco recipe that The Prudent Homemaker has on her website. I am also eating the filling out of a no sugar pumpkin pie, in case I don’t get enough orange vegetables this week. It says no sugar but I just do not believe it bc it taste like it has plenty of sugar! Lol. I am just eating pbj or turkey sandwiches for breakfast and lunch. Cindy in the South

    1. Goodness, I bet the turnip green soup and the pintos would be good together as well. Yum
      Pinto beans sound good.
Hope you don't get too cold. It is downright blustery here today. Sometimes no sugar things do taste awful sugary!
Stay warm and have good week.

  9. Yes Cheryl we go a bit of snow but more rain than anything else, we are supposed to get more snow and ice tonight. I hate winter, but trying to make a list of projects to do inside when bad weather comes.
I had wood delivered this past week and it is all stacked and being used. I have laundry hanging around the stove now drying.
I have been moving and cleaning furniture this early afternoon.
I am also making yogurt and prepping for meals this week.

  10. Hi Cheryl,
Wonderful prayer, thank you. You were a maintenance tornado this week, well done!

All good here in Az. Moved into my new home last week so things are still in boxes. But I am making progress. And this place is smaller and really fits me and moving here costs me less so lots of good news on that front! Have a good week and hope you get a bit of warmer weather! Hilogene in Az.

  11. Woke up this morning to an ice fog which made all the trees that lovely white.
You did very well this week. Our garbage is picked up in the front and man some days the garbage is blowing down the street.

      Have a great week.
