Hello all - hope this finds you all well today. It is a chilly morning here, in the 20's. Yesterday was a blustery day with flurries all day, as was Sunday. Nothing major at all - so can't complain - because we all know some places have a right to complain right now. Goodness, blizzards and cold in places that don't usually see those things. Sounds like even Florida is in the deep freeze.
Last evening from my front porch! I just can't get enough of the sunrises and sunsets - God's art is beautiful. The kitties are all fed - boy they were excited this morning. Usually they get mainly dry food, but this morning they got a treat - canned food! The past few days has been cold, so I was afraid it would freeze, but lets say it didn't have a chance. A whole clan of kitties scarfing wet food!!! It was so cute - of course they have their dry food to eat on all day.
Birds are out and singing - nothing coming from the sky - a good day.
I had a couple ask about the lentil taco filling I made. I did not follow a REAL recipe - I just sort of winged it. I was very skeptical - but it tasted like taco meat to me. I used one cup of lentils and I had tacos one day, made burritos one day and stuck some back in the freezer - will throw in the next batch of chili.
1 C lentils
2 C water
I sauteed some onion in a pan (for flavor), threw in the lentils for a couple minutes after the onions were soft. I then added the water - taco seasoning - beef bouillon. That is it!!!! Cook until done.
What I had left for freezer - I threw in a small amount of beans I had left over from another dinner.I used just like taco filling in the tacos, added my toppings and yum.
I made burritos with this and some rice and cheese - grilled and tasted so good.
I swear it tastes just like taco meat.
It sure is a money saver. Ground beef is pretty pricey anymore. Of course you can used ground anything for filling, but this is just so darn cheap. It is healthy and tasty. I will definitely be using this again for many things.
It takes me a while to try 'new' things - but I am often pleasantly surprised when I do. I know many of you already use lentils for tacos. I am sure there are many ways to fix them. I did simple!
I got a candle warmer for Christmas, unlike any that I have had before. I have had container that you place a jar candle in, then turn on. The heat melts the candle and thus it smells good. This one is a light of sorts. I decided to try it this morning. Goodness sakes, within minutes I could smell the candle. So cool, and no dangerous flame.
I am sure many have these or have seen them - I am always late to the party!!!! I really do like it. My house smells so good this morning. The orange band you see in the picture, is where it has melted already. That was after about 15 minutes.Nothing exciting this morning - just a bit of this and that.
Maybe it will give someone an idea or two.
I am tired today - yesterday was a long busy day - so I will just hang out around here and piddle around.
I hope you all have a wonderful day and that you are SAFE and WARM if in the bad areas.
Blessings to all.
What a gorgeous picture of your sky! We did get a bit of snow, but not much. Looking forward to some warmer temps - last night was in the teens, brrr. That candle warmer light looks very interesting. Is it only the light giving the warmth, or is the base heated? What will happen when the candle burns down? I guess you don't know yet, but you'll find out! :)

That is cold for your area Brrrr.
DeleteThe light is what heats up the candle. The base is cool. I imagine it just melts over and over - don't know if the wax actually 'burns down'. I do know it sure smells yummy in here!
I have a warmer like that. The wax doesn't actually burn down. The heat melts the wax and then the scent evaporates into the air. Eventually you have a candle with no scent (and with a wick that has went all wonky!)
DeleteThanks ladybug for that info. I am sure I could probably reuse the wax and add more scent and make new candles!
DeleteGreat picture of the sky. I haven't seen a candle warmer like that before. Glad to hear it is working well for you. Sorry to hear you're worn out, and I hope you have a very relaxing day.
ReplyDeleteWell good, I am not the only one who had never seen one like it. It really works well. I like no flame.
DeleteIt is ok - it was a good worn out - just a busy day yesterday - but nice.
Take it easy today, Cheryl. Enjoy your kitties. I have never seen a candle warmer like yours. Looks great!
ReplyDeleteWe have one more chilly morning here in Florida but it is sunny so not too bad. My cousin in Rhode Island had 18 inches of snow when we spoke yesterday afternoon and it was still snowing. At least they still had power.
Pleasant surprise yesterday when my neighbor said he’d pick up the leaves in my front yard with his mower (with bags) on Wednesday. It is his big oak tree that creates all the leaves but still. I said several times that I can rake but he insisted.
I take three Rx for glaucoma and one is moderately expensive. Instead of using my Medicare Part D, I have mostly used Good Rx and now my pharmacist has found a better one called Hippo for this medication for a much better price. I’m taking a chance that I won’t need other drugs during the year that would go towards my deductible and $2,100 limit but I’m willing to take this chance. I know you don’t take any Rx but others here might benefit by asking their pharmacist about the discount programs. Some people don’t know that even people on Medicare can use these. I picked up this Rx yesterday so it was on my mind. Barbara M.
Today will be a calm day for sure.
DeleteGlad it isn't too cold for you and that sure is a lot of snow. Glad they have power - many don't. I can't imagine.
How kind of your neighbor - that is a big help.
What a great tip on the RX's. I have not heard of that one. I have heard of GoodRx. Glad it helps in the pricing - that is always wonderful. Medications do add up.
Thanks.
Great capture of the sky! Man cannot even come close to matching the majesty that the Father has created.
ReplyDeleteI have seen those candle warmers and wonder if they are really effective. No danger of fire.
This is definitely a piddling around day. Obviously too cold to do anything outside. We have to listen to our body and treat it with care. After all, it is the Temple of Yehovah.
We are off to run errands in a while. Boots won't be required but a heavy coat and gloves will. Soon, very soon, we will have nice weather.
I just love the sky colors. The warmer has sure made the house smell good today. I will use until no scent left - then will probably turn the wax into a new candle myself.
DeleteSome days you just need to relax and kick back. As I age - I sure do get tired easier.
Have a good errand day.
Good morning, I saw those candle warmers at Christmas time. They look pretty interesting. I like lentil soup, hubby not so much on the beans food front. Makes me wonder what they ate as kids as beans were a thing at our house. We had company over the week-end. Had a nice visit. Seems like we have more company since we moved from Portland. I have no particular plans today, I need to make some. ;)
ReplyDeleteThe warmer works great. It took no time for the wax to start melting and the air to smell wonderful.
DeleteWe had a lot of beans too as a child - I really like about all kinds. I never understood not liking them.
How nice - you are the place to come now. You are the 'destination' for folks! Glad you had a nice visit.
Some days are just made for no plans!!!! That's ok.
ENJOY!
The sunset photo is stunning! Great shot.
ReplyDeleteI tried lentils and discovered my body doesn't like them. One of the women here told me I need to keep eating them, in small portions until I become accustomed to them.
It was 58F this a.m. when I woke, we're expected to reach 88F this afternoon, and it is only getting hotter through the week. I'd take some of the cooler weather.
Thanks. I never thought about someone having trouble with eating lentils. I guess some bodies don't like beans.
DeleteI would be glad to send you a bit of the cooler air - just need to figure out how!!! LOL
Luckily, I love lentils and they give them away on the prairie!
ReplyDeleteWay cool. Nice to get give away foods!
DeleteOh, I love your candle lamp warmer. I purchased a few on sale for Christmas gifts this year and they seemed to be a hit. :)
