Weekly Wrap Up 2/1

Happy Sunday, happy February to all.  It sure seems like January took forever to go away!  LOL
We started today with 1*F and a full moon.  We had snow flurries all day yesterday - but nothing needing shoveled.  Today will get into the 20's and then maybe low 30's later in the week.  WOOHOO!  That seems warm.  I am hoping we are now past the subzero actual temps, at least for the for a while.
We gain just over an hour of daylight hours this month!  Slowly we are getting there.  The snow has been pretty, but I am done looking at white.  I really need color.

I hope each of you say this little prayer and say it often.

This week my list will be shorter than normal, I believe.  Just such a tiring week.
My frugal week:
  • Moving snow!!!  Lots of snow.  I have moved snow every single day this past week - just to make paths and walks safe.  Had to then dig out the end of drive after plows came through, so as to be able to get out safely.  Doing this every day has been good FREE exercise - but it sure has exhausted this gal's body.  I go in spurts, so as not to overdo it.
  • Did pay a guy from down the road to move the deepest on Monday (in drive).  So worth every penny. (one reason to always have cash on hand)
  • I paid all bills due by phone or online!  (Yes, I did pay some online finally)
  • I caught up on laundry
  • I worked on deep pantry a little more - still not done
  • I did finally get out on Friday and made a run to the feed store.
  • I got gas while out - $13.45 total fill-up for January, at 2.14/gal.  Used my points, as they were about to expire
  • Froze leftover cooked ham and some soup I made this week
Meals this past week:
Cabbage/ham and fried potatoes
l/o chili with sour cream added and grilled cheese sandwich
Chicken tenders, fries and salad
Creamy chicken/turkey noodle soup and crackers - 2X (so yummy)
Soft tacos
Loaded baked potato - l/o taco meat, jalapenos, cheese, sour cream
SNACKS - banana milkshake, l/o salad, pc. of chicken, ham slices, fruit and nuts

That's it.  Like I said, it has been a tiring week - even though the list is short.  My body is tired.  The extreme cold hasn't helped.  I am outside a few times every day feeding and leaving water for the animals.
I am so ready for at least a little warm up.
I hope you all check in and let us know how things are going.

I sure hope you are all doing well and that you are safe.  I know you Florida gals and states N of there are getting very COLD for that area right now.  I hope you are all safe and warm.
Prayers for all who need healing and prayers for good health for you all and your families.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

Dear Lord, thank You for Your mercies upon each of us.  Often times, things do not go as we expected, yet we know You are always there.  Your time and answers may not be what we expect, but it is all Your will.  Guide us each one to make the best decisions for ourselves, our families, and for others.  Again, we ask that You please lay Your healing hands upon each on in need.
Thank You for our many blessings.  AMEN

  1. Well it was extremely cold early in the week, then it warmed up on Thursday and Friday, and I did my 30 minute walks outside, ran first of the month errands, paid bills, etc. The temps dropped Friday night/early Saturday morning and I have not left my house and yard and that was only to take the dogs out. Whew! My oldest son really got it in the northern part of the state. I made a mixture of turnip and mustard greens, potato salad, coleslaw, and bbq chicken legs, and I will eat on that this week until it is gone. My outside faucet is still dripping but I will turn it off this morning because we are going to hit 40 today! Yay! It is supposed to be 68 on Tuesday, in the town where I work, hallelujah!!! 67 where I live!!! It then dips again but not anything like last night!!!! Stay warm!! Cindy in the South

    1. I don't blame you staying in. I was home for over a week, other than tending the animals and shoveling. Sure wasn't going to hit the roads.
Sorry for the nasty stuff down that way. It is so unusual.
You food all sounds good and will make nice meals all week. I can't wait for 40! I am glad you will be getting such nice warming this week.
Have a safe and lovely week.

  2. I am still suffering from the after effects of my cold. I start the day full of energy, attempt a few jobs and then feel pooped. I keep reminding myself to listen to my body and do what it is telling me to.
In other news, we have a sunny day today. I took a little wander around the garden and looked at the snowdrops that are in flower and the crocus that are just starting to open up. Spring is on its way!

    1. Colds can just whip all the energy out of you! Listen to your body and make sure to drink fluids, take Vit. C and REST!
How wonderful you have spring flowers sprouting up. That has to be a joy to see.
Get well and have a great week.

  3. When I got up today it was 10F but sunny. High expected of 20F and then below 10F tonight, and then finally a bit of warming. So far the power stayed on and the water pipes in my house did not freeze, thanks to the woodstove. More snow later in the week though.

Today I need to go sweep snow off things and generally try to prepare for the week ahead. :) I am grateful that the Good Lord has looked out for me. If I tried to count my blessings I'd run out of numbers!

    1. I am glad things are good with the house and no problems. I am sure that feels terribly cold to you. We have sun out today as well - that always helps some.
I am with you - so fortunate the Good Lord has protected us in oh so many ways.
      Have a blessed week.

  4. We had a short week too mostly staying home because of the cold. You sure did a lot of shoveling this week! That is definitely tiring. Let’s hope the snow is done for the time being.

    1. Staying home is just the good thing to do when the weather is icky! I did - I really hope this is the only big snow we get this year!
Have a safe and wonderful week.

  5. It was 35 F. last night and will be the same tonight and today the high will be about 45 F. That is COLD for us in central Florida! They say it is the coldest since 2010. (Coincidentally tonight an OUTDOOR hockey game will be played in the nearby city of Tampa and they are happy it’s cold, I guess.) My fun event of the week was a birthday lunch for two friends at a Mexican restaurant.

My cousins in RI got 18+ inches of snow last week and thankfully their son came up and plowed them out.

    Stay cozy, Cheryl! Barbara M

    1. Yes it is. I know you are not used to those temps. Well, I guess that is good weather for hockey. I heard this morning our average per day for January was just over 8* - the coldest January in like 60 years. Crazy stuff!
Oh dang, 18" is just waaaaay too much. Glad they had help.
Stay warm - wrap up and wear sockies and have a good week!

  6. Well, it was 50 yesterday and 52F expected today. In IDAHO! Dear friends that moved away from the cold to Charlotte NC? They got 10" of snow yesterday and it was still snowing when they went to bed. He is grateful to have kept the snowblower purchased during our local 2016 "snowmaggden".

It's a crazy winter across the US isn't it?

Happy Blessed Sunday all. Be safe and warm wherever you are.

    1. That is just nuts - it is like everything is backwards this year. It has been crazy weather for sure. Well, that is a bunch of snow for NC - glad he had the snowblower.
Hoping you all have a wonderful week as well.

  7. Wow, the devotional is perfect! We have our ideas of how things should be but need to be reminded daily to rely on the Master, on His will be done. I used that Scripture on a prayer card for a lady who needs encouragement. Pretty picture.

My nephew who lives in Florida said it was 38 this morning. Another lady from Florida (don't know what town), said it was 24 at her house. We are grateful that our power is on, our house is warm, water flows at the touch of the tap, and we know this won't last for months. Jacob, the larger of the two Chihuahuas, is able to go out but Riley, my littlest sick baby, doesn't go out as much. He got stranded outside for a couple minutes last evening and howled pitifully, and I decided he will not be making trips out while it is this cold. I wouldn't want to go out to potty in my bare feet! Got lots of puppy pads the last time we went to Costco.

Miss Tracey is right..."listen to your body and what it is telling you to do". This cold weather and extra work outdoors wears a person out. Cheryl, you are wise in your workload. No reason to wear yourself out and then not be able to do anything for a while. I am very grateful for the sunshine, even though the temps are bitter.

Stay warm, I'm sure Bits has found a sun puddle to sit in.

    1. Yes mam, our thoughts and God's don't always match. His will be done.
That is just so cold for Florida. I know a few people down that way - and they sure aren't appreciating this cold snap.
I don't blame the little pup - funny thing is the cats outside seem to be thriving in all this. They sit in the sun a lot during the day!
Yes, our bodies warn us and tell us how to behave. As we age, it is much slower and just staying safe. The sun has melted a bit this week - it has been amazing to have so much sun for January.
Bits is laying on a chair under the dining room window right in a sun beam! Smart kiddo.
Have a special week and stay safe.

  8. Let February begin! January ended on a quiet note with mild temps. I'd rather have below 0 temps than rain at this time of yr. There were cookie drop-offs to 2 neighbors, one a 93 old man who still lives on his own with some assistance & supervision from home health care & family. I also visited with mom's old nursing home roommate. I often wonder what my old age will bring? I drove a cousin to her quilting retreat >1 hr away. She's the one who had a ruptured aorta ~ 1 yr ago & now has mild stroke effects. She can stil sew much to her delight. She's inspiration on 2 legs. I enjoyed 4x1mi walks with neighbors stopping for a little visit as they drove by. The rest of the week was spent on household chores. In the kitchen: chocolate chip cookies; naan bread pizza; mediterranean chicken noodle casserole; chutney; onion jam. There are beans with a ham bone in the crock pot right now. Have a good week, Cheryl.

    1. Agree - done with January and its nonsense!
Goodness you kept busy and did so many kind things for others.
Oh goodness, my mouth is watering. That all sounds wonderful. I have a pizza in the oven right now.
Ham and beans sound good. I am so ready to get out and walk again.
      Have a lovely week.

  9. It's warmed up at home, and that brought more snow and in some places freezing rain. I remain grateful to be out of the bad weather. It was cooler than normal here last week, but has warmed up nicely. This morning the temp was 57F and I expect we'll reach 80F this afternoon.

  10. Goodbye and good riddance to January.
It was a tiring month and I’ll be glad for some more sun and warmth.
Your animals are lucky to have you, you are very caring to look after them so well.
It’s going to be Frugal February at my house this month, we have a big tax bill due in March and so all my frugal skills will be out in force. Please keep all your great posts coming to give me ideas.
    Take care, Louise

    1. I agree 100%. Thank you - I am lucky to have the animals! They seem to navigate here for some reason - and when they do I take care of them. Not sure I will spend as much on them in the summer, as they can hunt - but I feel an obligation to look after them in winter.
I will try to keep the ideas flowing. I know many have big springtime bills coming due.
      Have a super week.

  11. The birds are hitting our feeder hard. I filled it Thursday evening and had to again this morning and it is a very large feeder.
Today I'm taking a slower than normal day to relax before going back to work tomorrow.
Enjoy your Sunday and have a great week.

    1. The birds are really active and hungry. Guess it is hard to find natural foods this time of the year and with the snow cover. I feed mine too. I just love watching them.
Enjoy your low-key day and have a beautiful week.

I love cabbage and sausage or ham, and it pairs so well with fried potatoes! Comfort food.
