Weekly Wrap Up - 2/22

Hello to all and happy Sunday.  I hope this finds you all well and safe.  I know there is some nasty weather taking place out east - with big winter storms.  I hope you are all prepared and cozy inside.
It has been quite the weather week here.
We had a free preview of spring this week - it was delightful.  Tons of robins back in the area.  The ice cream truck was out after school on 2 different days!
We even had thunderstorms and tornadoes this week.  Thankfully all that I know are well and safe.
Now we are back to our regularly scheduled winter weather.  Yesterday was windy and cold (but a little sun), today is breezy and it is snowing!  Just flurries - but heck, a few days ago it was 70*.  We are to have a couple cold days again, then back up some by mid-week.  I think the colder days are fewer and further in between for our area - soon spring will be upon us.

Another week of just a bit of this and that.
My frugal week:
  • Changed out the door decor
  • Got to air the house out and turn off heat for a few days
  • Lunch out with high school chums on Tuesday - El Toro
  • Walked a lot this week - love getting back into it on warmer days and talking w/neighbors
  • I picked up tons of trash blowing around the neighborhood.
  • Saved store bought glass jars and some baggies washed to reuse
  • I tried a new recipe (to me) making taco 'meat' strictly from lentils.  It turned out really well - with toppings, I couldn't tell it wasn't meat. (sure is cheaper) (even have leftovers to use)
  • Lots of general housekeeping
  • A little sewing
  • Had a family luncheon out on Saturday for my SIL 85th birthday.  Was at Chicago Pizza and brother paid for everything! (15 adults and a few littles).  It was fun to see everyone.
  • Brought home 2 pieces of cake
  • Refilling containers with things on hand
  • NO shopping at all
My meals this past week:
Tuna patty, mac & cheese and side salad
Nachos - used l/o Mex. skillet (from freezer) on top
Out w/friends
Fish sandwich and salad
Tuna/rice/broccoli casserole & some fresh veggies
Lentil tacos (tasty)
Out w/family
SNACKS - mainly fruit and popcorn.  A little cheese

I got some baby time yesterday at the family gathering.  I got snuggles with Bella - she is growing so much.  She has a grip with those tiny hands - wouldn't let go.  Cooed and talked with me.  She laid back in my arms and against my chest and just stared up at me - such a feeling of pure joy & love!  The other littles had a good time playing and visiting with us all.
It was quiet around here this week - except for times at luncheons.  Enjoyed seeing folks.
Sis is slowly gaining her strength back.

How was your week?  There are several of you that need to check in - you haven't posted in a while.  I do notice when you don't check in.
Did you all do anything fun this week or are you warming up any?  Any good deals?

I think of all of you and wonder about how you are all doing.  Many prayers for you all and wishing everyone well.  Hoping you all have a lovely week ahead.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

For God alone my soul waits in silence, for my hope is from him.  He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
Psalms 62:5-6

Dear Lord, we say thank You again this week for our many blessings, both small and large.  Help us each to grasp onto the light and to be happy with the tiniest moments.  Challenges and sickness abound, yet we know things happen in Your time, as hard as it is to try and understand that.  Give us patience and hope, as we know You hear even the quiet prayers, and the ones we somehow can't finish.  I pray for grace in following Your word and guidance and knowing Your hand is involved in all things.
Again, we ask for healing for all our friends and family - whether it be physical, mental or spiritual.
AMEN

  1. Spring teased us a little, didn't it? It was so nice to open some windows! We have some snow falling right now but I don't think we are supposed to get too much. Oh, what fun to get those baby cuddles. We are having a bunch over today for a birthday party. Everyone is bringing something, so I won't have to do all the cooking. I so appreciate that. That is good news about your sis! I would be interested in that recipe for taco lentils if you wouldn't mind sharing it. Have a great day.

    1. Yes it gave us a sneak preview for sure! I just loved the fresh air - this morning I can't seem to get warm.
Baby cuddles are the best. How nice to have everyone bring something - that really helps and it also gives a nice sampling of goodies.
I will share how I made the lentils this week. Nothing major - but they did taste like taco meat!
Have a great time today and enjoy time together.

  2. Oh, how neat that the ice cream truck was out. What a sweet childhood memory. We had a lot of rain here this week. That snow storm heading east looks like it will be a big one. I like those taco meat lentils too and it’s a money saver too. Yum on the Chicago Pizza and very nice of your brother to pay. Snuggles with baby Bella are good for the soul.

    1. We usually have ice cream trucks around all summer - I was just surprised to hear that little song - then see the truck.
Yes, the eastern part looks to get slammed today. I sure hope they are prepared.
I was truly surprised at how good the taco lentils were. I will definitely do that again. Ground beef is pretty costly - great way to save money.
I had never had Chicago pizza before - they had wonderful bread sticks! Oh goodness, yes, little Bella gave me lots of smiles - and a happy heart.
Have a good week - hope you are healing.

  3. Last week of Feb. Robin sightings are still ~3mos away! The big dump of snow this past wk was a reminder that winter is still here. Thanks to my neighbor, the driveway & yard are cleared with snow piled higher than the pickup. There's still a little snow to shovel & I'll get that handled today. I spent last w/e watching my youngest granddaughter play ringuette 2.5hrs away. I had a great visit with a cousin where I stayed. Thankful that I got home ahead of the snow storm. The nieghbor little came over with her mom. We roasted marshmallows in the wood stove & made s'mores. My SIL's birthday brunch was cancelled so I had ham, nalesniky, cabbage rolls to repackage & use up. In addition, hashbrown casserole & cabbage soup. The seasonal oranges have been delicious. Have a good week, Cheryl.

  4. Excellent devotional! Your prayer is very heartfelt. When we can't utter the words, the Spirit speaks for us. Sometimes all I can think of is "help".

It was daggone cold this morning when I went out to get Riley. It was like a giant spray bottle filled with ice water. I brough him in and wrapped him up in his special towel so he could get warm.

Good news from your sister. Hopefully she will continue to get better so she can enjoy the spring weather when it arrives.

Ah, the joy of a child! Enjoy her while she is a little. They grow up way too fast.

Stay warm. I hope all your "boarders" are staying in the greenhouse.

  5. Good Sunday morning! We've been traveling. Hubster officially retired Jan 28 so we are now both unemployed 🤣. He has turned the corner of chemo side effects. It has now been 11 days since they stopped getting worse!!!! AND biggest of all to him, he started tasting food again 8d ago. A dread that he would never taste food again was real and is permanent for many who get this "chemo recipe". It's been a very long 7 months and yet some days he says this time has passed very quickly.

Thank you to all who prayed for this man you've never met. He knows and feels you made a difference in this unwanted journey. As we move forward enjoying this precious life we've been gifted, he will be monitored every 3 months for new tumors. This is not a curable cancer, however choosing this difficult treatment program gives him a 30% chance of living 5 years rather than the average 37 months.

Thank you again for the many prayers. May God Bless you each and every day.
