Hello all. Happy Sunday! I hope you are all well and safe and sound this Sunday.
Today is another same old kind of day! Cold this AM and cloudy. The sun is supposed to come out again later and the temps are supposed to increase this coming week. YAY!
I am so tired of seeing white - as everything is still covered with lots of snow after 2 weeks. I have a really hard time when the sun is shining (I do love my sun) as the snow glare is just crazy. On sunny days I have to wear sunglasses inside when looking out the windows for very long. I am very sensitive to light, and sunglasses are part of my wardrobe in the spring and summer.
I saw 2 robins at the heated water bowl on Friday! I sure hope that is a good sign that spring comes soon!
Again this week, it has been relatively quiet on the homefront. I have kept busy, just nothing too exciting. My frugal week:
- Made a homemade pizza and used many things from the frig that just needed using up (never the same twice!)
- Made a plain butter cake for sweet treats
- Used the oven heat on both days - after off - cracked the door to release heat
- I made a skillet meal that could be used in a few ways over time
- Didn't go anywhere - NO grocery shopping. I thought about it, but then figured the stores would be packed with Super Bowl shoppers
- I worked on the pantry a little more
- Trying to use up older items and things from freezer & pantry that need using
- I worked on sewing a little this week
- General housekeeping
- Using what I have and using up leftovers in new ways - froze some as well
Meals this past week:
Homemade pizza 2X w/small salad
Stir fry veggies and chicken over pasta
Mexican skillet - gd.beef, corn, beans, rice, crushed tomatoes, taco seasoning, cheese
l/o stir fry and scrambled eggs
Enchiladas - used l/o Mex. skillet mix for filling
Fried hominy/onion/peppers, sliced ham
SNACKS - lots of popcorn, cake and banana milkshake
Pretty simple and calm week around here. Much appreciated after working out in the snow so much for so long. Some days I feel like I have accomplished stuff, other days, well, not so much. That is ok, heck, I am retired!!!!!
What is going on in your neck of the woods? Are you southern gals out of the deep freeze yet? I had a niece that was without power for almost a week in S.E. TN. That would be rough - they (her & hubs and 4 kids had to go to a shelter for a few days.) I know things have been bad this winter. Spring will be here soon, and then summer, and we will all be complaining about the heat! LOL
I hope you are all doing good. Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead - may your weather warm up a little like mine is supposed to! Stay safe and healthy.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

Lord, thank You for all our mercies this week. May we each go forward this week with kindness and good words and thoughts and deeds. Help us to stay the path and not fall prey to negativity. Please continue to lay Your healing hands upon each one in need and comfort the hearts of those who are sad or lonely. AMEN

Mild temps have created a skating rink in my yard. I have ice picks on my boots to make it safer to get around. I won't take them off 'til June! The walking route on the road is almost bare of snow now. I won't hold my breath 'cause I know there's more snow to come. The first Tues of each month is 10% off day at the local grocery store; I scratched the ticket for 30% off, the most I've ever gotten in all these years. I got 3x1mi walks in. One day I wheeled a friend to a medical appt in town. She's wheelchair bound b/c of MS. it wasn't easy navigating the melting snowpack but we made it. I fetched my cousin from her quilting retreat an hr away. There was lunch & scrabble one afternoon with friends. My oldest granddaughter turned 18, a milestone birthday with 18 being the age of majority in Canada. The super bowl & the olympics capture a lot of people's attention but not mine. I watched the 2022 Elvis movie one afternoon. In the kitchen: lemon zucchini muffins; chicken stew w/ dumplings; bacon/bean soup; rhubarb bread pudding. Cheryl, I liked what you said in one of this past week's posts about being more of a producer than a consumer. I endeavor to keep my footprint low; I know it's all relative. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteIce is treacherous! It is so scary. I have a certain pair of boots I wear now - as they tend to keep me from slipping. I sure don't want a fall. Neither do you - good going on the cleats.
DeleteYou did a lot outdoors with helping others this week. Ice and snow and a wheelchair do not go hand in hand. That would have been a big job.
I am not a super bowl or Olympics gal either. I am not a sports person at all. I know in the next week or two, many shows will not be showing new shows due to the Olympics. I have plenty of things on DVR to watch if needed.
We really do need to try to produce and not consume. If everyone did that - it would make a big difference. Little bits add up!
Have a safe and good week.
We've had a lot of sunshine this week and you are correct, with everything covered with the white snow, it is blinding. I'm thinking here with the temps we're supposed to get it will be gone by Wednesday. Then we have a lot of rain that is supposed to come here. It will be mud season then.
ReplyDeleteHave a great Sunday and week ahead.
The snow blindness is REAL! I love the sun and it makes me happy - but it sure makes seeing clearly a problem with the snow. I hope to see most of the snow gone this week too. Yep, then mud season. It is always something!!!!
DeleteThanks - you have a lovely week.
Excellent devotional! I especially like "not fall prey to negativity". We all need His healing hands, whether a physical pain, spiritual or emotional.
ReplyDeleteSure is cold and gloomy. I shan't complain though, as we are safe and warm in our home, not without power and at a shelter like your family members. Lots of folks were hit hard with this storm. Car accidents, power outage, schools out for a long period and just downright gloomy.
Yay for sighting robins! I told the Farmer the very same thing you said, that we will soon be complaining about the heat. ha!
See you Tuesday!
It is so easy to fall in the trap of negative comments these days. I have just 'turned off' some friends and family from FB because of it. I don't need it. No one does.
DeleteThe old saying - if you can't say something nice........
It is a gloomy morn, though I did see a couple peeks of sun. Maybe later. We are all so blessed with so much.
Yep, we just can't be happy with what we have - we all seem to have a need to complain. LOL
Have a super week.
Our snow is gone. :) We had quite a windstorm but my power stayed on, which is great as the night temps were in the teens.
ReplyDeleteBusy week here. Went to work, took tax papers to the accountant, did laundry, did some fresh food shopping because I was down to canned fruits only. Finished up the older meat in the freezer. Dealt with a telephone issue which I hope will be solved some time next week.
Temps are warming. Thank heaven! Cheryl, I really like your prayer, it reminds me of the prayers I say every morning, only it's better. :)
MaryB
Lucky you - I look forward to not seeing snow!
DeleteSounds like a busy week. I have all my paperwork for taxes, but haven't even thought about doing them. Guess maybe I should.
Glad you got to go shopping. Gklad your temps are warming up.
Simple prayers can say much. I say the Lord's Prayer several times a day - then add my own thanks to our Lord.
Your prayers are just fine with Him!!!!!
Have a beautiful week.
Quiet weeks are nice, Cheryl. I’m so happy to have some down time after the stressful past six months.
ReplyDeleteMade an appt. at my ophthalmologist’s new office for May and went over to the old office to get all my records transferred. Received my mammogram results which were good. Shopped at Aldi $25.12 and Publix $5.00.
My realtor could not open the door to the closet under the stairs yesterday. I had just put something in there in the morning but something gave out on the 35-year-old door latch. I did get it open with WD40 and a screwdriver to move the latch. (Proud of myself.) But I believe it needs to be replaced. I’ll try to do it myself because it doesn’t look too hard. I’ve found a new doorknob and will see if HD has it in stock today. In the meantime, I’ll tape the latch so it doesn’t get closed again.
I think the worst of our weather is over. High 60s all this week and sunny but still cool for us at night. I’m still praying for Nancy Guthrie. I remember exactly where I was, a rummage sale of course, when I heard that Elizabeth Smart had been found. Barbara M.
Sounds busy on your end. Glad you got good results from the doc. I would let whoever buys the house fix it - you know they will change things anyway. I think I would be done. Good job, for figuring out how to get it open though!
DeleteI hope the worst is over. So ready for a break.
I wish all the missing - children and elderly as well - got so much attention. We have so many missing just around here, and they get so little attention. It is really sad.
I just can't imagine going through that.
Have a wonderful week.
Still cold and white here also, I haven't driven off the property in more than 3 weeks. Tried on Friday and got clear to the end of my lane/drive only to discover the county had plowed me in.....again. I will be calling the county tomorrow to nicely ask that they not do it again. I have a feeling it is a newer driver. I did have a family member come with his 4 wheel drive truck and knock down the drifts and flatten it out a bit. Hopefully with the predicted sun and warmer temps by Tuesday I can get out safely and comfortably. I spent 15 minutes digging out so I could back up the lane and into my garage.
ReplyDeleteI have enough here to cook and eat and could make most everything I need with pantry stores but out of fresh fruits and veggies.
I made tuna noodle casserole and beef stew along with a batch of cinnamon rolls in the last 2 days. Made yogurt and had a delivery of basics by DD so I am just fine. LOL
I don't care about sport either, have plenty to keep me entertained and I also have mending to do.....but hurry Spring!
I am going to do my very best not to complain about heat this coming year. Our heat bills have been so high but at least we have here.
JC
I know plow drivers can't really 'miss' the ends of drives - but it sure is aggravating. Sorry yours was a mess. I have left once in 3 weeks - and the roads were good (except mine).
DeleteGlad you have plenty there that can nourish you. It sounds like you have been making some yummy goodies.
Yes mam, hurry spring.
I always say I won't complain about the heat - usually still do. But I can handle heat much better than the snow and ice and cold.
Have a lovely week. Hope you get out!
Power here......LOL
ReplyDeleteYAY!!! That is a great thing to be happy about.
DeleteHave a super week.
Your week sounds perfect after such a physical one the previous week. I do find that I do need a few days rest after big physical work, where once I could just go and go and go. Getting old I guess….
ReplyDeleteThis week I should have attended a funeral, but just wasn’t up to handling another death of a young person that my children went to school with due to drugs. I just didn’t feel capable so I stayed home and cleaned out the enclosed porch area that just gets full of stuff that just gets dumped and doesn’t really have a home. Some stuff was binned, some donated and the area looks a lot better and feels a lot cleaner.
Next week, more cleaning. Take care, Louise
I know I am getting old..... it takes much less to get me exhausted. I was a busy girl a lot - so the rest was needed this week.
DeleteOh how sad. I can understand that. It is bad enough when it is family or close friends, but a younger person is just so hard. It seems to happen more and more - damn drugs.
You used the time wisely and for a benefit. Glad you got the area straightened. Seems we all have that dumpling place - mine is called a basement!
All that cleaning will make you happier! Have a good week.
We had a good week here too. Still cold here, so I’m looking forward to warmer weather when it does arrive. That is so sad about your niece and their power. My cousin was out of power for 8 days, ugh. I’m still so grateful we didn’t lose power. Your meals sound so good, especially the pizza and Mexican casserole. Those are right up my alley!
ReplyDeleteBelinda
Glad you didn't lose power. The weather sure has been something - and in places that don't usually see that. Hope your cousin has their power back.
DeleteI just like lots of flavor and those kinds of things always hit the spot. We seem to have similar tastes!
Have a super week.
