This, That and the Other

One of those days.  For some reason, I always think Thursday is Friday!  I get so confused at the end of every week!  LOL
Just one of those odd and end days.  It is still hot - though not QUITE as hot today.  Next week looks to be worse.  UGH!  Been working inside a lot.  Go out to feed the babies and make sure there is plenty of fresh clean water for all the animals - water plants if needed - that's it.

This morning while I was out feeding (6:30AM), I closed my eyes and just listened.  So many different birds could be heard, I heard squirrel chatter and even hear the leaves rustling in the breeze.  There was this totally lovely breeze - it almost felt cool, considering.  Sure there was traffic noise in the background, but I concentrated on nature and it was lovely.  I said my morning affirmations, petted my kitties and surveyed the garden.  Life is good!

This is so true.  We are all bombarded with the noise of life - it isn't all good.  We hear the news, we see the posts, we hear the conspiracies, we are just overwhelmed with NOISE!  YOU know in your heart what is good and what is right.  Quit listening to the yammer - and start listening to your head and heart.
Life is short - why spend it worrying?
Do what you need to do, spend only what you can afford, and be kind.  That's it!

Thought I'd show you the books I got last week.  4 are cookbooks and 2 were novels.
I got these for new inspiration.  Once I get a few new recipe ideas and share any worthy tips - they will be passed back on again.
Looked like a couple fun reads.  Remember I got all 6 of these books for the grand total of $1!!!!!

This is the canvas tote/basket I got for $2 each.  I got 2 at the thrift store.  They worked wonderfully in the overflow pantry.  Nice sturdy bottoms, and they fold up, if need be.  Brand new!

I have not dropped off the donation yet.  It has been too hot to try to load up the car.  I think I may go on Friday or Saturday - weather will be a bit better.  I just keep adding to the pile!  Oh my, I have so much stuff!  It can be overwhelming at times.
I am sure many of you feel that way too.  You gals that moved, had great opportunity to get rid of stuff.  I know moving is tremendous work - but I envy you that you had the incentive to get rid of stuff.
I have finally started digging in, I hope I can just keep the momentum going!!!!

Looked at the grocery ads this morning - MEH!  Not much exciting.  I did see 1 lb. bacon for 4.99 - but I have a bunch in the freezer - so no going out just for that.  I think I will skip this week.
I have plenty - I can eat and feed my pets - no need to go to be going.

Funny - yet sad and true!  Yep, we all know them.  We can't let them steal our joy.  We have the right to toss the splinters and move on.
You don't have to ask permission - just do it!

Well gals, I guess I am going to get busy and do something.  Keep cool and stay well.
If you are doing anything neat - give us a shout.
I have to say, you all bring me joy and a feeling of worth.  You brighten my days.  I love you all so much - thank you for being here.
Have a fantastical weekend!!!

  1. Good morning! Most days I'm awake before dawn. It started back in the peri-m years and used to bug me, but now it's my favorite time of day. Yesterday at 4:30 am I sat outside, watched the moon set and was treated to a symphony of song birds, crickets, nearby roosters and ducks before the sky slowly glowed with sunrise.

Great buys, Cheryl! I collect old cookbooks. Well... it's a small collection. A benefit of decluttering is it makes room for things that make you happy. In homes as well as in life. A benefit of the past few months is I've realized how little I actually NEED day to day. There are some wonderful charity thrift stores in the area; we'll likely be dropping off more donations as we unpack.

Stay cool, hydrated and have a blessed rest of your week.

    1. Those early hours are just so lovely. Many would never understand the solitude you can have.
I have way tooooo many cookbooks. I have thinned them a lot - then I get more! LOL
I love your sentiment that you have realized how little you NEED. I am finally realizing that as well. Being alone - puts a whole new perspective on things. I am just now finally grasping this concept.
      Have a good one!

  3. Cheryl, for your readers, you are like a mother, sister, friend with good advice, inspiration and a model of kind behavior. You just keep it real. You remind us to keep calm and carry on. I love your thrift store finds; I'm itching to go thrifting myself. Gardens are holding my attention though. I am learning to love snakes! There are several garter snakes in my gardens and one gets under the house. I have NO mouse problems. It's 79 F here in Ontario which is hot for us! Enjoy your day....

    1. How sweet of you to say. I truly appreciate that. You all keep me going - really!
My garden is small and it tends to take fairly decent care of itself! Oh snakes - I know there are good ones - but no thank you! LOL. Never been a fan. I will hope kitties take care of any mice!
79F would be delightful here. That is near perfect.
      Have a great day!

  4. Great deal on the books. I love old cookbooks! And--while I am not familiar with Deborah Smith, I do read Debbie Macomber. Reasonably clean, nice plot lines usually with some sort of twist. Just a good read for a slow, hot summer day, a rainy afternoon, or a curl up on the couch, hot chocolate kind of winter's day.

    1. Thanks. I am not familiar with Deborah Smith either - but it sounded good. We'll see!!! Cheap enough.
LOVE Debbie Macomber books - I have read so many of them.

  5. It is so true that there is so much noise in the world today. Our apt. faces a noisy street, and usually I can tune it out, but some days I wish I were in the country instead. But then I'm reminded I need to be thankful for all I have. Our pastor encouraged us this past Sunday to take time to not only read our Bible every day, but listen to what God is saying to us. Listening is hard, isn't it? I know all about getting rid of stuff. When we moved to our apt. 7 yrs. ago I thought we got rid of a lot (and we did), but we are still getting rid of stuff. Took a big load to the thrift store last week and still have things to clean out. The older I get, and I'm very close to 72, the more I realize I just want things I use and that make me happy. Besides, I don't want to spend all that time dusting and taking care of things. I want my home to be warm, welcoming, and peaceful, and that's what I aim for.

    Blessings to you, Cheryl.

    1. Wanita - yes, it can be hard to listen! Sometimes we just have to get smacked before we hear!
Things that make us happy - I like that. Slowly, I am figuring out that 'things' aren't always memories or people. Memories are inside us and the people gone would want us to live our best life.
      Blessings

  6. Hi Cheryl. Love the Snoopy poster. You had some bargains at the thrift store. My daughter and I went to a car boot sale in Saturday. She bought quite a few clothes at bargain prices, some for herself, a couple of items to sell on. I bought two colourful, longer summer tops to wear over shorts, one was unworn with tags. I also bought 6 butternut squash plants which were a bargain.
My granddaughter is off to a local music festival next week, working as part of the camp crew. She bought some wide leg trousers which she wanted taking up. I dusted off my Nan's old sewing machine to hem them up as they are multi coloured. My Nan was born in 1889 and it's a manual machine. I have no idea how old it is, but still works a treat.
Glad you hear you are getting on with the decluttering. I love how one person's donations can be just what someone else may be looking for. Hope you have a good weekend.

Sounds like you got deals as well. That is neat on the sewing machine. Old doesn't mean bad! Love it is still tending to mending and sewing.
One man's trash is another's treasure.
      Have a good one

    2. Ha ha, think she would say that Nan is more of the hippy. Glastonbury Festival (UK) has been going since 1970 so is very diverse with some hippy undertones. She is camping for 5 nights, the weather forecast does look dry, fingers crossed.

    3. Sounds like a blast. Nothing wrong with keeping a bit of that hippy culture alive and well!!!

  7. Record breaking heat here in NW GA. Ugh!
Did not really need to go to store but hubby wanted burgers for Father's Day. Got some good meat markdowns at Kroger. Yay!
I have been doing lots of decluttering this past year. Lots more to do in my attic but too hot now!
Good books are such a blessing on extremely hot days!

Decluttering is a pain, but when you look at what you did - it feels good. Every little thing out is just less junk around.
      STAY cool!!!!!

Wasnt that breezy morning a wonderful treat? We got it yesterday. Even though the thermometer read 77, the breeze felt cool. So I turned off the AC and opened all the windows for a couple of hours. Let fresh air in and let all the creepy air out!

Went to church at noon today and then stopped at Dollar Tree. It was closed at 1pm and not open until 3! No people to work. So, we saved that money and came home. I really needed that toilet brush tho!!

My husband brought in a big bouquet of hydrangeas today when he was done watering. They sure loved all that rain because they are spectacular!! Pink and purple, like big balls of cotton candy. I noticed a few green tomatoes so we're on our way!

After being out in the heat, just had lunch, etc., I see hubs is asleep on the sofa. I think I will join him! Toodles!!

    1. There have been many places closing early due to no help. Meat dept. and pharmacy at Kroger has limited hours and days - no one will work!!!! Just nuts.
It was lovely this morning. It is hot, hot, hot but the wind is blowing so, that is decent.
      I bet those were beautiful.
Good day for a nap! ENJOY

  10. We're expecting some serious heat this weekend, though at the moment it is cool with the occasional rain shower. I've been lucky as I haven't had to water in several days. I did have to run out yesterday and drag the tomatoes and pepper containers under cover as we were getting pea sized hail.
Great finds at the thrift store. I so like those canvas boxes. I use them in my craft room for storage.

Yep, it sounds really hot for a few days. Hoping for a little break this weekend to get yardwork done.

  12. Good morning Cheryl, well good afternoon really I guess. It has been dark and cloudy for most of today, but the sun is now coming out. I will need to give the plants a good watering tomorrow as it is going to be hot this weekend.

I always look forward to any recipes you share, hope you find some new ones in those books.

    God bless.

  13. I agree with your advice, Cheryl. Sometimes in order to preserve peace of mind, you have to block out the noise around you and just "do the next thing". Worrying about the chaos in the world doesn't solve anything, and only does us harm. Taking care of our pets and families, tending to what has been entrusted to us, and being kind to others are all uplifting to the spirit. I love your commonsense posts.

    1. Thank you!!! Indeed, all that worry doesn't solve a thing. All we can do is prepare as best we can and be good people.
God tells us not to worry, He has it! Who am I to doubt that?
      Thank you so much!

  14. Hey Lady, been unpacking (still ;)). Yes, bird song is so thrilling and joy-giving…as are the other sounds you mentioned. And Yes, please! stop listening to worry and listen to the up-lifting.
You’re right, we took 6 truck loads of stuff to charity shops. And, even this side of the move, we’re unpacking stuff saying, “Keep? Nah.” So there’s more to be given away.
Looks like you got some fun reads there; and some ideas, too.
I think our weather is like yours again this week…hot and humid.
Thanks for keeping the faith - we all need encouragement.

We are hoping for a little break in heat for a couple days - then back to hot. It's summer - as much as I dislike the extreme heat - to be expected I guess.
Thank you - you all responding and caring is my encouragement.

  17. I have 2 of those cookbooks--meals in minutes & 1001.
You'd think with a cookbook that's 1001 I'd not need another one. But nope. Like you I love my collection.

A grocery store near me was selling $3 Lindt chocolate bars in various flavors for 99 cents. They don't expire until next year. I bought a bunch- like a lot! Christmas gifts!! I plan to wrap up 3 -5 per person. I thought a stack of 3- 5 different flavors as a gift would be fun! I know I'd love it!
