Weekly Wrap-Up 11/12

Happy Sunday to everyone.  Here we are stating another new week.  Dang they are just flying by!  Just a couple weeks until Thanksgiving and 6 weeks till Christmas.  WOW!
I hope this finds you all well and safe and healthy.

We had a pretty decent week around here.  It was absolutely glorious for a few days - wonderful temps - but it is still quite nice, although a little cooler.  Sunshine helps everything!
Not being the brightest bulb in the box, I quite over did it again this week - but all is good.  My back was improving , and instead of just laying low - I went back at it.  That is me.  Work out those kinks!!!!!  I am fine, just a little sore and some tired!  Thankful I can do it.

Well, Friday morning, I looked out the window before going out to feed, and what did I see?  A little kitten!!!!!  I saw a cat under my potting table - it was still kind of dark - so wasn't sure.  Then when I went out, and it got light, I saw it and heard it.  Oh my - it is cute.  I wasn't going to feed, as I know that means they STAY!  Well, I couldn't ignore those tiny meows!  So, I have been feeding it - it won't come near me, maybe at some point it will let me be friends.  There is plenty of shelter available.  I am not looking for another cat - but maybe my plans don't matter.  By the way, Blackie is very sweet to it!
It is a little black and white kitty - so cute.
My week:
  • Cut down all the sunflowers out front as the leaves were pretty frost bitten.  Saved all the heads and the squirrels have been enjoying
  • I cut up that big limb that fell - yeah, not my brightest move (I was sore) - but it is done!
  • Pulled out all the rest of the garden plants
  • I went to Ollies to do some Christmas shopping and to get a couple things I wanted new for the house (I know - shocker!).  I did get 4 cookbooks and some stuffers for baskets and a couple kids items.  I had a 15% off coupon for entire purchase and saved about $24.
  • Cleaned up more leaves - have a bunch out there again
  • Found 3 quarters while out!
  • I received a lovely gift from my friend LaurieS in OR.  She finds some really sweet things.  It is so pretty and as she said "we all need a birthday cup!" It is so fancy!!!  I believe I will pair it with my grandmas teapot!  Thank you again Laurie!
  • I did run to Kroger this week for a couple of the deals.  They had turkey for .59/lb. w/$25 purchase - but I opted for the turkey breast.  I prefer white meat and it's only me!  I got money off that as well.  Then I got all kinds of canned beans (except green - have plenty) for 2/$1.00.  I got enough frozen hash browns to last till spring for making casseroles (1.99/32 oz. bag).  Found 2 very tiny beef roasts on clearance for 3.19 each!
  • I have been working on the house!!!!!  FINALLY finished that dang wallpaper removal!  Spackled, sanded - and made a boat load of dust!!!!!!!  ON EVERYTHING!  UGH.  I have also been moving things around and changing some things out - quite a job when one is alone.  It seems everything is heavy and cumbersome.  It all takes time and then rest!  Maybe today - I will paint.  I just want this stuff done so I cannot worry about it anymore.
  • Made a small pork loin in the crockpot this week.  I has been a great meal extender and was easy when I was busy.  I made my own version of pozole with some of it - goodness it was good.
Meals this past week:
Homemade pizza
Leftover pizza and salad
Sliced beef sandwich and salad
Enchiladas (using leftover frozen dirty rice)
BLT and scrambled eggs
Pork loin and roasted potatoes and sliced toms
Pozole type soup
SNACKS - fruit, crackers w/sliced cheese

How was your week?  Are you ready for the upcoming holidays?  Have you been enjoying nice weather as well?  I know many of you are having snow - that nasty 4 letter word!!!!!!  Our weather outlook until at least Thanksgiving sounds pretty nice.
Look forward to hearing from you all each week.  Check in and let us know that you are OK.  We all care.  I get worried when I don't hear from you all.

Wishing you all a save and healthy week.  Blessings to you and yours from my humble little home!

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
Romans 15:13

Dear Lord, we cannot change the happenings in the world, as only You know the reasonings and the whys of things.  Help us to continue to pray for all, and to know that Your love is all encompassing.  Help us to keep our faith and our hope for a better world and a better future for all.  May we all enjoy the beauty of each new day.  Amen

  1. Wonderful devotional! Only the Father knows the reasonings and whys. The Farmer and I were talking about something he has discovered and it made perfect sense to me. When we attended the Assembly of God church down the road, the pastor said that "God is logical". I think that is very true. His ways are far superior to ours.

Are we going to have to appoint a "Cheryl sitter" so you don't overdo it? ha! You're making the rest of us look bad. ha!

Going to enjoy this weather while it is with us. Beautiful day.

  2. Good Morning! I really loved the prayer this morning. It's so true that only God knows all and we have to trust that he will take care of things we do not understand. I'm so glad you fed the kitten, I would have too. Especially since you're already all set up to keep outside cats safe and warm. Smart cat to choose you. Bonus that Blackie likes him too. The weather has been nice and looks like we have another week of it coming. It's great that you keep yourself active and busy. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!!

    1. Thank you! We know nothing compared to God.
It is so cute, but it won't let me close yet. It knows where to get warm and rest. Blackie is kind of protective! Surprises me.
The weather should be great this week. Looking forward to it.
Thanks - just so many things to do and I need to get it done.
      Have a beautiful week.

  3. Yes! Glad you fed the kitten. I'm beginning to enjoy my rescue cat - although she is very very shy with me. Probably because she is 15 and spent most of her life with one other old lady.... Your Blackie is probably a bit lonesome without all his buddies and God has sent him a little friend.

Yesterday we had a lovely hymn singing with potluck lunch. These days restore my soul.

Be careful there, lady - take time to rest between the major jobs or you'll crip yourself up, not a nice way to spend holidays.

Prayers for Peace in The Holy Land.

    1. I heard that little cry and had to feed it. Blackie is nice to the younger black cat that comes by, and he is really protective of this little one. I am sure he gets lonesome.
Sounds like a lovely fellowship at the potluck.
Oh I will be OK. I know my limit, and yes, I hit it today!!!! I am pooped!
      Have a blessed week.

  4. The remainder of the garden cleanup was finished on Friday (hub had the day off). The leaves have been vacuumed up (his gizmo muches them as it picks up), and then spread across the garden beds. I stuffed the garbage container with tomato detritus. ;-) and topped it off with my frozen geraniums. We're going to buy compost/topsoil today and then it's nighty night to the garden beds.

I did a major shop at Costco and stuffed the pantry/freezer. We should need very little before January. I will of course, take advantage of any super discount items!

Happy day ya'll. Welcome to a new life this beautiful Sunday morning.

    1. Glad you got the garden all cleared. That gismo sounds nice!!!! That will make good gardening soil next year!
Yay, on the Costco shop. Sounds like you are all set. I love that. Other than milk and maybe a little fresh - I need nothing either.
      Have a wonderful week.

  5. Happy Sunday! Isn't it amazing that God sends us fur babies! What will you name the kitten? You know it's going to stay. If you can, please get a pic. And, as always, you were BUSY this week. So happy to read the wallpaper removal is done. What color will you paint the walls? Gardens have been tucked in here for awhile with hard frosts many mornings. Days are cool and sunny still.

    Our dinners for the week:
roast chicken, mac-n-cheese (leftovers of that went home with son) and green beans--leftover chicken, green beans and broccoli--ham and cheese omelets and toast--pork pot stickers w/rice--beef sandwiches (from a small roast for lunchmeat) w/tomato--boneless country pork ribs, peas & carrots and leftover rice--oven warmed beef and cheese sandwiches.

    Deals this week:
Not much at the grocery store, sadly, but chicken drumsticks or thighs were 77 cent lb., bagged salads $1. I went into Dollar General and Safeway for the 1st time since foot surgery. YIKES! On my list were white vinegar and powdered sugar, which weren't available. What's up with that?! Serious sticker shock, and I wasn't the only one. A few other shoppers mentioned the prices when trying to figure out what they could afford/were willing to pay.

Which leads to my biggest bargain of the week... using store "cash", a sale price + stacked coupon codes and free shipping, I bought a Nesco electric pressure canner for $29 after tax. I've not done pressure canning on my own before. Today, with a lower sale price + 40% off coupon code, I'm thinking of getting a 2nd, as they only handle 5 pint jars at a time. I got the last 2 cases of pint jars at Dollar General; $10 ea. case and had a coupon for $5 off $25, so a jar of PB and canned beans brought me over the $25 minimum. I'm going to need advice on pressure canning! But the prices in store are so high I have to try.

Projects for the week, Hubs inside/outside, me inside:
Shelving added in the laundry room, putting metal strips on the NEW dog house both girls already started chewing, more indoor purging, cooking/baking again (so glad to be able to), laundry (does it ever end?) and re-org.

Praying a LOT. These are crazy times. So many are going through so much. Love to all. --Elise

    1. Someone had to drop this little one off - I can't imagine it getting lost. Depends if boy or girl - haven't gotten close enough to see!
The paint is supposed to be sage and when I rubbed it next to the pic on can - it looked like it. Not so much on my walls!! It looks much more teal!!!!! I like it - but a realtor would have a cow!!!!! LOL
I started with an accent wall - that led to another wall. Now I am thinking a wall in dining room ..........
Your meals sound great. I have never pressure canned either - so I can't offer any advice. Hopefully others will. Great deals.
I have been purging too - as I dust and rearrange - some things are going. Things I haven't really looked at in ages or just don't know why I bought!
      Don't over do it!
      Have a great week.

  6. What a beautiful teacup set! Just so pretty...Very thoughtful of LaurieS. That's so nice you found some good deals at Ollies, we went into a new Ollie's in our area and it's very neat there. Great deal and there was a friendly checker at this one too. One of our daughters loves buying books and games there as she sees them for her two little boys, and then she saves them for Christmas.

Oh please be careful, Cheryl...Yikes. Our backs are so delicate.

It sounds like you've been cooking some cozy meals too, that soup intrigues me, I could make it veggie too I bet.

Yesterday, I got a little wild in the kitchen, I was here by myself and made an almond flour stuffing and a healthy no sugar version of the Praline Pecan Sweet Potato casserole, and put those in the freezer. Thank you Cookie for the sites, that is where I found the almond flour stuffing. It made me feel good to get that part out of the way, now I'll do the traditional Praline sw. potatoes. Maybe make some good brown rice flour based gravy for me and a few others too. I'm going to make some of those shortbread cookies too with almond flour and stevia. Thank you Maebeme and Cookie. I'm going to try both recipes! Yum, yum!

Oh that little kitty!!!! God sure knows what He is doing! : ) I'm so glad you fed the little thing...Sounds sooooo sweet!

A good prayer Cheryl, God's ways are mysterious. I'm also praying for the Holy Land as well as all innocents involved in the conflict. My heart is heavy everytime I think of it. Praying hard. Our culture right here is in such turmoil and it blows my mind what people accept and what they think is normal.

Have a sweet, blessed and holy Sunday, Cheryl, as a missionary friend of ours said to us one evening when our girls were little and the brick and mortar churches were already going downhill..."We *are* the Church" as he pointed to his heart. ~Amelia

    1. Yes, indeed, Amelia, we *are* the church. It isn't about the buildings, it's about the people. So glad you got some of your Thanksgiving prep DONE. That's still on my "to do" list, along with wrapping gifts that have to be shipped. I usually ship out before Thanksgiving and am behind this year. Blaming the foot. LOL! --Elise

    2. Oh, I keep busy, but know I have to rest that back!!!
I am sure you could make a Pozole version that had no meat and fits your eating. All you food sounds so yummy. Glad you have gotten a head start. It sure will help the days go easier.
I agree - we are the church - not the building. I quit going to a traditional church ages ago. I can pray any where I am and God will hear me!
      Have a lovely week.

    3. Thank you Elise. LOL..."Blaming the foot!" Maybe that will become a new saying! Hahaha!!! Wrapping gifts is more time consuming than many think right? I wrapped our grandbabies a couple of weeks ago and it took far longer than what I expected. I'm loving my wrapping paper from Dollar Tree though for the littles. Pink Minnie Mouse Christmas paper for little tot girl, and blue Paw Patrol Christmas for the little tot boys...I used bags for the clothing sets for the boys with a cute reindeer. : )

God bless you Elise, glad you liked what I said about us being the church, it's so true isn't it?

    4. Oh good, Cheryl, I'm glad you are resting your back still. : ) When I hurt my back I was innocently dancing around and twisted the wrong way and totally re-injured it. Gah.

Yes, it's so true that we are the church and so many should be the church but they can't because they are so busy attending church right? I usually find more true Christians these days at least in our particular area who feel the same way these days. Our relationship with the Lord is a day to day hour by hour minute by minute thing right?

Thanks for sharing, I do believe God sent that kitty. ; ) *big smile*

  8. Just a quick pop-in to say hello. It's been a crazy week, including a trip to visit my mom and take care of a few things for her. With everything that was needed for her this week, things that should have take 15 minutes or a half-hour took significantly longer. Hoping that this coming week allows me time to take care of what needs to be done here. Welcome to your new kitty. Glad it's with you and not me (highly allergic to cat dander). More for another time.

  9. Hi Cheryl, as Lori above said, mine will also be a quick pop in just to say hello. Painting finished in three rooms. Tile delivery delayed two weeks to early December. While there are delays, it is great to see progress! Had two friends invite me to their homes for thanksgiving, that was lovely since my DH and I always cooked a Turkey so this year would be lonely if I stayed at home. Hilogene in Az.

  10. You were a very busy gal! Glad to hear your back is feeling some better.
Today, the temperature is well above freezing and the snow is melting, hurray! More warm daytime temperatures are in the forecast for the rest of the week, so I'm hopeful it wil all disappear by next weekend.
As for the kitten - of course, you couldn't just ignore it. That Blackie has taken to it already suggests it is meant to stay. :)

Well, I need it to let me close to it. I guess it will in time - Blackie was skittish too at first. If it stays it will have to get fixed - so I have to be able to catch it.
      Have a great week.

  11. It's no wonder you were so tired and your back is sore. You've been busy. I have you beat on the kitten story. We have four new ones in the neighborhood and they like it at my house (where they get good food). I went to pick up a dog from the groomers this past week and I heard some frantic meowing from underneath my car. I panicked and drove 25 miles/hr all the way home. It took them awhile to come out, but they were safe and sound. That pretty much describes my life these days--always full of surprises and noise and chaos. lol It' s difficult to believe that Thanksgiving is almost here!!!

    1. 4????? Oh my gosh - so glad they didn't get hurt under the car. Poor babies. You sound like me - kitties tend to like what I feed. At least this one eats the things that Blackie is crazy about - so nothing wasted!
Take care of the babies. Hey, surprises, noise and chaos, keeps us on our toes!!!!!!!
      Have a lovely week.

  12. I have a kitten story too…. Last week my son pulled over to take an important call while travelling. He got out of his vehicle and noticed a burlap sack dumped down in the drain alongside the road. What actually caught his eye was that it was moving!!!! So, of course five kittens came home with him!!!! Unfortunately two had to be euthanised by the vet, but three have found new homes ( none with me thank goodness)
Cheryl, you may not be looking to have a new cat, but that cat is looking for a new owner. Blackie thinks so too!!!
    Have a wonderful week, Louise

    1. How can people do that? That is so horrible, that someone would do that to any animal. Poor babies. I am so glad they were rescued. Those poor 2 must have been very sickly. Glad the others found new homes! Tell your son thank you for bringing them home.
I guess, I just hope it lets me get close. I know it is scared. It will need a vet visit soon, so I need to be able to handle it.
      Have a lovely week.

  13. Hi Cheryl, happy Monday! I wish a kitten would come find me! I want an outdoor cat, but it needs to be one that finds us and decides to stay. We've had a few come and go, but they never stick. We do have some rabbits that are living under our shed, so that's always a treat when I happen to catch a glimpse of them in the yard.

You got some great deals at Kroger!

  18. Please Read. You have a great post here, Have anyone here know Goji Berries... yes... I tried those too.For my health conditions, Those sweet, red berries seemed to help, but only during the time when I consumed them. I don't want to take a drug for the rest of my life, so why would I want to take a natural supplement everyday for the rest of my life (although Goji berries are very tasty and are highly nourishing). To me this was not a cure either (and I'm LOOKING for the CURE).
Up to that point, I hadn't found a cure. I felt like a young jumbled mess. I continued to have extreme pain, but continued on my path to healing. I started to focus on myself and not everyone else. When I was a young adult, I took on too much responsibility out of a sense of obligation. This was no longer healthy for me, so I resigned from all my projects and groups. Those days to come were the best [and worst] days. I took a lot of time off work, yet begun to feel so extremely exhausted. Many health professionals "diagnosed" me with adrenal fatigue & Hiv,Prostate Cancer so my situation was annoying then I keep searching for permanent cure online that's when I came to know of Dr jekawo herbal doctor hands whom god has blessed with ancestral powers and a gift to heal people with disease like .Cancers,Alzheimer's disease,HPV,Men & Women Infertility,Melanoma, Mesothelioma, Diabetes, Multiple myeloma, Parkinson's disease,Neuroendocrine tumors,Herpes, Hiv/Aids,Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma,, chronic diarrhea, COPD, Hepatitis... So I made a purchase of his herbal medicines and I have been watching my health for 6 years now and I actually confirmed that his herbal medicines are a permanent cure and I'm so happy that I came to know of his herbal healings. You can contact Dr Jekawo herbal doctor Email: drjekawo@gmail.com if you went through exactly what I go through in terms of health conditions because to be honest there is more to learn about natural herbs than medical drugs.
