Howdy to all. Can you believe it is Thursday already? It is a lovely morning. Low 70's at the moment and just a bit of humidity. I did get a lot done outside yesterday - gosh, it never ends. I went out 3 or 4 times and did my work, so as not to overheat again!
It is going to be a hot, hot weekend. We are going back into the 90's.
THIS is how we save our money and are mindful of all things.
WE are the ones that decide how we spend our money. Sure, you have certain bills that have to be paid - but you can turn off, turn down, or shop around and lower those items too.
The only one on the list that isn't happening for me is "ditch the car". At this point in life, it isn't feasible to get rid of the car. I use it so seldom, that I make up for that. I go out only now and then.
ALL the rest I do and have done for years. Could I do better? Sure, but I try and that is all we can do.
Stop and think about all you do and all you spend. Be mindful. Be good stewards. It not only helps the environment, but it helps YOU and your POCKETBOOK as well!
It is the Independence Day for America tomorrow - the birthday of our nation. That always calls for many celebrations and family get togethers and fireworks!! UGH
I have to admit that it has been quieter this year leading up to the holiday than in the past. That has been something (and much appreciated). Not looking forward to all the village igits tomorrow night and probably all weekend - but I am sure it will happen.
I hope you all have a great weekend. I have no plans here. I tend to piddle around the house and maybe TRY to get my nephews blanket done! Maybe some porch sitting early or late when a bit cooler.
Eat the goodies, enjoy the family and friends, celebrate safely.
BE MINDFUL!
Have a great day. Stay safe and cool.
Yes, you need to be very careful when working outdoors in the heat and humidity. This morning wasn't too bad. We went out very early to weed and water. The weeds just seem to be coming back very soon and that gets a little discouraging. Then I have to think of being grateful that I can still work in the garden.
ReplyDeleteGreat poster of helpful tips! Both our vehicles need some TLC so we are more careful of what we spend. It's always something...
We have been eating cabbage from the garden. Not sure the red cabbage is going to make heads.
Enjoy the 4th. I noticed that not too many people have been setting off fireworks days or even weeks before the holiday. No money? More sense?
Early and late are the times for now. The heat is just too much. Yep, the weeds just thrive - and I can't seem to get ahead of them.
DeleteFresh cabbage sounds so good. Hope you get some red. I didn't plant any this year - went looking too late.
It is wonderful that it has been quieter. No money? Maybe, but never seemed to stop them before. I keep thinking maybe they moved - whatever it is (I doubt more sense) I love it.
Have a great weekend.
The work, be it indoors or outdoors, never does seem to end does it? But I am grateful for the tasks that keep me busy and fill my days because it would be easy to get lonely without all these tasks to fill my days, if that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteWe've had one night so far where the fireworks kept me awake, but like your area, this year has been quieter. Could be that people are not spending money on fireworks or don't have the extra money to spend this year, not sure though.
I'm staying home while Bailey is going to a friend's house. I was invited but still not feeling 100%, so home it is for me.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday. :)
No the work never ends and it does make a lot of sense. In and out - there is always something to do.
DeleteI hear a tremendous boom every now & then and it makes me jump - but so far so good. A few regular ones - I can handle those. Probably just jinxed myself. If you aren't feeling your best - home is the best place. I sure hope you get to feeling better soon. Enjoy your peace and hopefully 'quiet'!
I heard fireworks last weekend, but then nothing. Thank heaven it has been wet, plenty of showers. This weekend is to be fair and warm (mid-80s) but everything is damp (almost moldy!) and the humidity is high. I'm happy about no fireworks, although I *love* sparklers. :D
ReplyDeleteYes, one must pay attention to where the money goes. I find that shopping at charity shops works well to satisfy most shopping-itch I get. Sometimes there is a neat something for a couple bucks, like last week I found a coffee grinder for under $3. Been wanting one for a while, to grind up various things.
Was reading about soup thickeners, and someone mentioned "pea-flour". Best I could figure that was ground up split peas. Little coffee grinder did a great job on that. I'll see what pea-flour does next time I make a soup that needs thickening.
Happy 4th, everyone. :)

Sparklers are sweet - I do like them. Just those loud bomb like ones that make me mad.
DeleteIt really does pay to be mindful. Love it! I have 2 very small grinders that I got for $1 each several years ago - one for nuts and 'mild' things. One is for hot and spicey items.
I'll be interested to hear how that works out. Please let us know!
Have a good weekend.
I try to always be mindful but sometimes I slip.
ReplyDeleteThat is OK, we all slip of the wagon once in a while. We tend to make up for it the rest of the time.
DeleteCheers & enjoy your family.
I only do about half of the items on your poster - practice mindful spending, pay attention to utilities, value time over money, focus on quality, consider value when shopping, pay yourself first. I used to be a big freebie shopper back in the day when many stores gave full rebates for sending in receipt or through CVS ECBs. I still miss all the free school supplies but I still have a pretty good stash. I rarely see freebies any more. I used to be a big secondhand shopper, mainly at church rummage sales, but now I rarely shop and I’m trying to get rid of stuff! Still, I’m comfortable where I’m at. I did get a 9-roll pack of Angel Soft TP (my preferred brand) for .73 today by combing a sale, digital coupon, 10% store coupon and store reward points. Happy 4th of July!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand. I don't shop like I did years ago - and rarely go to a yard sale or thrift store anymore. Thinking more and more and getting rid of so much stuff I have stored in basement - I need to be ruthless!
DeleteWhat a fantastic deal you got. That is about as close to free as one can get!!!
Happy 4th!
Have a wonderful 4th of July, Cheryl!
ReplyDeleteThank you. It will be a quiet one at home.
DeleteYou have a good one as well.
Ditching the car would be hard. We might go down to one. I might switch to a Moped or Vespa-type scooter eventually. But I hunt down bargains, so I need a car!
ReplyDeleteWe have a protest tomorrow, so that's our big activity for the 4th!
I definitely need my car. Things are close, but too far to walk at this age. I have a bike, but that doesn't allow one to carry much.
DeleteHave a nice weekend.
Happy Independence Day 🇺🇸to you, too, Cheryl. Celebrating quietly here, too.
ReplyDeleteMary in OK
Thanks. Those quiet days can be nice!!! I am spending the day decluttering - independence for me!
DeleteHappy 4th of July! I just got back from a work conference yesterday so I spent the day doing laundry… lol. I did stop at grocery store on way home and got potatoes to make myself potato salad for today! I had hot dogs and beans so that with potato salad and a watermelon was the menu for a party of one.. lol. I also used sandwich bread for the bun of the hot dog like we did when I was a child. ReplyDeleteThank you. Glad you got back safely. Sounds like a real summer holiday dinner to me! I do that with bread often! Hamburgers, hotdogs, it doesn't matter. To me, bread is bread. Now we know why moms did that!! LOL
DeleteEnjoy a quiet time back!
