Howdy all. Here we go ending another month! Yesterday was 89*(F) here - but it really didn't feel bad. Today will be around 87* they say. Looks like it will be in the 80's for at least the next 7-10 days and not much of a chance of precipitation at all. Summer just isn't letting go.
We are now at this point in the seasons. Time for fall festivals and soon the end to farm markets. Most all the farm markets conclude here in October. Crafty sales will be starting, and the thoughts will go towards thinking of holiday gifts.I had a pretty good September. I got to see lots of family and friends. That is always good. The garden has been producing a lot and still is.
Can you believe we have now made it through 9 months of the year??? Seems like just yesterday it was NY day! Time has flown by, so you know the next 3 months will be gone in a flash!
Let me show you a couple things I got this month.
Here are the sweet little ornament that I received from Cookie. She does the nicest work and is always thinking of others.Look at this cute container. This is what my niece sent chili home with me in. She had several of them. They are REUSABLE! I can put my hand on the lid and spread my fingers, so it is pretty nice size. I got 2 of them. They would be so cute to use for snacks or treats. I don't know where she got them, and I well imagine they weren't cheap. I bet they cost more than I would pay - but she doesn't worry much about those kinds of things! She sent a lot of them home with people.Plans for October for me. This is homeowner's insurance month! UGH. It has gone up a LOT again this year. I pay it once a year - so it isn't a surprise, I just hate giving them that money!
That is my big expense this month.
I need to get my plans together and start some gifts I am thinking about making for the littles for Christmas. I want to make some stuffed patchwork cuddly toys. A dinosaur, a cat and a couple Mini Mouse items. Maybe a baby blanket if there is time - I will be getting another new gr.gr. niece sometime this month!
I plan on not shopping much in October. I have gone through all my supplies - of all sorts - and there truly is no need to shop for much. I may hit a farm market sometime this month or the orchard to get apples but really need nothing. It isn't about saving money, it is about trying to use up the older items and using what I have. I am chronic about buying the 'deal'. Well, it doesn't make much sense to have all this stuff and not use it. DUH! So, this will be a month of use it.
As for fresh - I still have lots of fruit, I have tomatoes and peppers out the wazoo - and I have veggies and fruit in the freezer and canned. I won't need milk for a couple weeks+, nor cheese or butter.
I want to continue to clean for 'fall' cleaning. I have kept the windows open a lot lately and there seems to always be dust, and those darn dust bunnies everywhere! I want to continue to declutter in the basement - just so much that hasn't been used in years.
BUT I also want to enjoy the month and the season.
What do you have planned for October? I love hearing what everyone is up to, and it often gives us all good ideas! Give us a shout!
Have a super day and enjoy this last day of September.
Do what you can, with what you, where you are!
Since I cleaned out the refrigerator downstairs I’ll use it as cold storage for apples this winter. It’ll be perfect and not crowd the fridge upstairs. I’m glad to see September go as I had to really tighten my purse strings this month, but we made it through. Yahoo! 😂
ReplyDeleteSeeing family is terrific, I was able to see some in September too. Those pumpkin ornaments are adorable! Yesterday the weather was perfect here, sounds like you all are still hot though. I hope it starts to cool off for you soon.
That will be great to have all that room for cold storage. Heck it would work for winter squash as well, if you like that sot of thing.
DeleteYou made through - that is the great part. I think we all have those months now and then - and it can be a struggle. That is why we are frugal!
Really the temps are up, but it feels pretty nice. No humidity at all. The windows are open most of the day - so not complaining.
Daughter and I went to a singing convention with friends out of state and it was wonderful. We ate out both evenings (yummy stuff) and had potlucks at lunch times. OMGoodness, so much food and all so good. I'm not looking at the scales for a few more days, don't want to know what "the damage" is. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I need to get my Xmas stuff in order: gift lists and what I need to purchase, what cooking supplies I may need for extra treats and gifts.
We're having rain and more rain which is great. So many trees were damaged last year that the risk of fire this year is above normal, but not in this weather.
MaryB
Sounds like you had a wonderful time. So glad your daughter could join you. Just avoid the scales for a bit!!
DeleteIt is that time, isn't it? We are all making lists and seeing what new ideas we can come up with.
Glad you are getting rain - you have had enough problems, sure don't need fire.
I just cut out three Christmas aprons for gifts last night. I need to go through my stash and make more just regular aprons for others.
ReplyDeleteGood for you. Aprons are a nice gift. So many neat ideas out there for making them super special.
DeleteI have had some home repair expenses recently and also a longed for vacation back in June which took a lot of money. I have set myself the next 3 months until 2026 to see how little money I can spend. To live off my stock, and to only buy occasional fresh milk, fruit and vegetables. Going out with friends, trying to arrange coffee catch up s instead of lunches. Going to free things like galleries. I will be interested to see how much I can build up and replenish my savings.
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! That is a great goal to have. I bet you will be amazed at all the things you may find to do. It is fall festival time - lots of pretty things to see - if you refrain from spending.
DeleteI love that you will try to use the pantry you have for the next 3 months. You got this!!!!!
Keep us informed of your progress - it will be interesting!
We pay our house insurance on a monthly basis - it hurts less this way. :)
ReplyDeleteYou've had a busy month and it sounds as though October will be very busy too! I'll be revealing my plans for October in my next post...stay tuned.
I paid monthly when I had a house payment - now I would just as soon do it once and forget it! I pay my taxes for the year all in May as well. One and done!
DeleteLook forward to seeing your plans.
I don't plan to be too busy - just a lot of little projects and enjoying the fall.
What a cute fall picture! We used to go to the Covered Bridge Festival and then it got so it was mostly junk in the booths. The smells of cooking food in outdoor cauldrons was always so enticing.
ReplyDeleteStill pretty warm during that day but nice at night and early morning. Saw one forecast that it will remain pretty warm for a while.
Had what I think is my last reClast infusion for my bones. Will have a bone scan next, then they will decide from there what to do. Not a big deal, really, just lethargic for a day or so.
Erin has started feeding two outdoor kitties. She has a soft heart for kitties.
I used to go as well - and then it got to be the same thing every year. That is kind of what the picture reminded me of.
DeleteThe mornings are cool - and I really like that. Yep, doesn't look like things will be changing much.
Glad you are done with that. I have known others that have had that injection. Rest and feel better.
Tell her THANK YOU!
We pay our house insurance in November and then a second payment on our extra health insurance in December..... Budgeted for but a big chunk of the budget.
ReplyDeleteWe only have 3 more markets so I plan on trying to get to one to see if there are any pie pumpkins and if there is any decent corn.
What lovely containers, so cute.
God bless.
It gets costly at the end of the year for sure. I have my health insurance taken out of bank each month. I pay car insurance twice a year. There are just times that seem to suck the money up!
DeleteI think that is about how many markets left here as well. Hope you find some goodies.
Cheryl good post. Jean from Manitoba
ReplyDeleteHi Jean. Nice to have you here. Have a good week.
DeleteJackie, my house insurance is due November and car insurance in December. Our markets in MB are closed now. Love your blog also. Jean
ReplyDeleteThat is a hefty end of the year payment!
DeleteI am starting the month off with a chutney making session to use up some of the green tomatoes I harvested a couple of days ago. I still have tomatoes ripening outside and some of the apples on my 2 small trees are still not ready to harvest, so I am hoping for some sunny days to help them along. I also want to make some herb mixtures up from the herbs I cut and dried a couple of months ago. I am determined to make the most of my home grown produce this month. Then, of course, there are Christmas preparations to make a start on.
ReplyDeleteSounds good. I have made green tomato relish several times, and I love it. Hope you get good days for ripening - if it is like here you will!
DeleteI think having a garden makes us really think about using the food up. You work on it, you sure don't want to waste it. Yes, there will be more canning and such here as well this month.
