Gifts That Over Time Could Save Much

Hello all - it is 40* this morning - going to 50's.  Hopefully sunny later in the day.  Those gloomy and cloudy days seems to sure change a mood.
I have noticed a wee bit more daylight - I especially notice in the evening hours.  Wee amounts add up.

Today I want to share some lovely gifts I have received over the past few years that we should all think about getting, either for ourselves or for others.  They could save dollars, but most could actually save lives!!  Can't give a better gift than that.
I have a nephew that worries about his aunty a lot.  He worries about all the family, but he really keeps track of me.  He and G were close as could be (2 peas in a pod) and now he just wants to take care of me!!

This year was the LifeVac - it is used on choking victims to help move the hazard.  You can use it on yourself as well as others.  Looks very easy to use.
Most definitely could save a life.

I got a fire blanket and easy to use fire extinguishers last year.  The blanket stays on a shelf behind the stove.  I got these extinguishers that I have by the stove, and by the furnace and water heater. (both good for car as well).

A weather radio is always a handy thing to have on hand.  Uses batteries or hand crank and during inclement weather, can keep you alerted to what may be coming, so you can take additional shelter.

This is a definite $$ saver - freezer thermostat.  It alerts you if the freezer reaches a certain temp - meaning the freezer is heating up.  Gives you time to move your food stuffs to another location instead of having to throw them away.  My big freezer is in the basement, and I used to have to go down every day JUST to check it.  Now I will be alerted.

Now I know this guy is a HUGE bargain shopper, and he can find a deal like no other.  He makes me SO proud!!!!  He gets these kinds of things for all his close family.  I just have to careful not to mention things in front of him - because he will buy it!!!
I have received window alarms, battery cables, and even a portable easy to use car battery charger.
He thinks of everything.

I just thought I would show some of these things - so you can do research yourself.  You could buy as a wonderful gift for any occasion or for yourself.  It is always good to be prepared in all ways.
It isn't just about pantries and freezers or having money in an emergency account.

Protecting yours and others lives and property is vital.

Have a safe and healthy day!!!!!

  1. Are you my son's aunt? :) This year I was given a Fire Blanket. Last year, a "pump up your tire" thing that runs off the car engine. Year before, a Power Pack jump starter for my car. I feel very cared for, and it's quite remarkable as he has 2 little kids and a full time job and his wife also works full time (more, as she's in social work) so he is stretched really thin. You know what? We are *truly blessed* to have such men in our lives!

    1. I would be honored! They truly are thoughtful and caring for giving such gifts. Yes, the gifts are practical - but we really don't need froo-froo stuff.
Yes mam, these men have blessed us so much!

  2. Indeed, what an honor to have a young man who cares about the health and safety of his family. You and Miss MaryB have fabulous men in your family. I told the Farmer about the freezer alert system. He thought that was a good idea.

Gloomy right now but sunshine is on its way! These dark days make you appreciate all the more the beautiful days.

    1. Donna I think you are correct - we have some great guys in our lives.
I am sure that the thermostat wasn't too expensive (I hope). It is well worth peace of mind.
Sun is starting to rear its head here!!!!!

  3. I think those are fantastic gifts. You (and MaryB) are so blessed to have such caring and smart family members to give you practical, useful gifts. I have a wind-up weather radio but will research other useful items. I know I need a fire extinguisher. My mom saved my dad’s life using the Heimlich technique and it was hard because dad was in a wheelchair.

    1. Thanks I think they are pretty darn good too. Seriously a fire extinguisher is a must in a home and we should all know some CPR/Heimlich or something. He used a device like this one to help his granddaughter who was choking on food.
      We all need something.

  7. You have a sweet nephew. I would love gifts like those. I have a LifeVac at home, one I gave to my parents as my kids are down there quite a bit, and a generic one I keep in my vehicle. Hopefully I'll never have to use it but my youngest still puts absolutely everything in his mouth so it helps with peace of mind a bit.

    1. That is it - peace of mind!!! As we get older it is nice to have practical gifts that could really make a difference in life. That is smart to have a LifeVac in the car as well. I may have to get another one.

  8. Some very useful things there. I have a fire blanket on the wall in my kitchen, and it definitely gives me peace of mind. I recently attended a fire awareness talk and they said Air fryers are a big cause of house fires these days as people don't clean them between uses.
Haven't heard of a freezer thermostat so will look for one here.

    1. The fire blankets are pretty nice. I did actually have an oven fire once - before blanket and it was tricky to get out.
The freezer thermostats just gives a bit of peace, as it goes off if the freezer gets below a certain temp. and you can save your food.

  11. Those are such thoughtful ideas! We just found a fire ladder to hang out the window if it’s ever needed. I need to look into the fire blankets.

    1. That is a fantastic idea when having a second floor situation. A jump could be so harmful to the body. Smart thinking.
