Weekly Wrap-Up 3/19

Happy Sunday everyone.  The last day of calendar winter!!!!!!!  Spring starts tomorrow.  Sure doesn't feel like it this morning!  It is 18*F here at the moment.  Our temps have been very cold and windy and full of flurries the past couple of days.  YUCK!  This coming week sounds to be much better.
I figured it would get cold and icky - it is March Madness time - basketball tourney - and it always happens!!  It really never fails in my area.
Also, it was very chilly, windy and wet on St. Patrick's Day - that usually happens as well.  Those poor folks who do the parade and those watching always get so cold.
My daffodils did great most of the week - then after Friday night temps - they went all droopy.  Done for this year!

I have had another fairly quiet week.  Just didn't have a lot of oomph!
  • I did do another yard pick-up at the first of week.  Sticks and more sticks
  • Changed batteries and the furnace filter this week with the start of the time change - it is a good reminder time for that.
  • Taxes are done!!!!!!  I was going to do myself, and decided to let the company do them again - they are responsible if there is a problem!  It is a family operation and been around for 50 years.  Not sure how it keeps happening, but I am getting a really NICE refund from Federal, and I owe state $40.
  • Had an old friend from my work days come by for a visit this week.
  • Ran to the library while out (directly across from tax place)
  • Ran to Aldi that day as well.  Hadn't been there in a while.  Got fruit and fresh veggies only.  Saw eggs for 1/99/doz.
  • I received a lovely card and a gift from a reader.  I was so humbled.  Thank you Hilo!
  • Just doing all the regular stuff we all do
  • Eating from home and using leftovers
Weekly meals:
Fried shrimp, baked potato, small salad
Beef Manhattan - yum
Chipped beef gravy over toast
Homemade pizza - 2X
Corned beef and cabbage
Rueban sandwich, chips
Beef Manhattan - used meat from freezer

I was talking with a friend this week and we both agreed we have been living a boring life for a while.  Just no oomph, mainly because of weather.  I am making myself a promise this week to get a fire lit under my bum and accomplish a lot.  Here's hoping!!

How was your week?  Are you getting ready for Spring??  Silly question!!!  Have you found any great bargains?  Let us know what is going on in your life.

I pray that you are all safe and healthy.
Blessings from my humble little home to you and yours.

For with God nothing will be impossible.
Luke 1:37

Dear Lord, Thank You for all your gifts and blessings that we receive each day.  Thank You for helping us through our darkest days and gifting us with brighter days and promise for the future.  We know that through You, all is possible.  Prayers for all people of this world and for peace for all.
Amen

  1. The world certainly needs prayer and intervention from the Father.

This past week was yucky indeed! Got up to a skiff of snow this morning. My daffies are on the ground. They were pretty while they lasted. Don't know what this cold snap will do to the roses and the Japanese maples.

Have a long list of stuff to accomplish and will chip away at it. I need to get housework done so when it does turn nice outside, I'll have time to work on gardens.

    1. Yes, the prayer is definitely needed for this old world.
It was yucko indeed. My daffies are done too. I sure hope everything else is OK.
Same here. Good luck getting your projects done.
      Have a great week!!!

  2. Between the time change and the return of cold weather, I had little energy this week also. It is snowing right now and then will be in the 60's the rest of the week. I hope that gets me motivated. I want to get all of the inside work done so I can soon focus on the garden. Have a great Sunday!!

    1. I think the weather has been a big part of my lack of motivation - that's my story any way!!!! Hoping you have a great week - enjoy those temps.

  3. Hi Cheryl , you are so welcome! During the past three months, so many people have commented on my husband’s passing and most are kind but not helpful. Your comments to Kim and me were helpful, perhaps how you phrased them, or perhaps just your experience with loss. Sometimes the smallest things make a difference, and I wanted to thank you. I am sure there are days when you wonder if anyone is reading or affected by your efforts…we are ❤️. Hilo in Az.

    1. You give me more credit than deserved. You are strong women, and need to give yourselves more credit. I am very grateful.
Thank you. I do wonder a lot if this little spot on the worldwide web makes any difference. It warms my heart that it does, for some at least!!!!!
      Wishing you a fantastic week.

  4. Our weather hasn't been nice either. Where, oh where is spring? We may reach just above the freezing mark this week, and the sun has been warm enough to start the melting process but it is soooo slow.
Wishing you a week of good weather and high energy!

  5. We have had the last 3 days of nice weather here. We even went to a fishing/BBQ that was put on by the Vet Center here in town. I got some sun on my face. Most of the guys did not fish but had a good time chatting. We are going to have the next 10 days of rain. I'm thinking this too shall pass. Good crocheting weather. Hubs did get the lawn mowed and the grub killer down for the year. So not a lot exciting here. I just want to say that I really appreciate your blog.

    1. 3 nice days is a good beginning - but 10 of rain would get me down. I saw the radar for your area this morning - yuck. Neat on mowing already - I have places that really need it. Maybe in a week or two. The BBQ sounds like a nice time - I bet the guys really had a good bonding time.
Thank you my friend! Have a wonderful week!!!!

  7. Seasonal temps in NE Alberta this past week. The grader banks on the N side of the roads are starting to melt with the spring sun. Taxes filed with a return enough to pay the accountant. Just need to get my mom's into the accountant. There were 2 full days of babysitting this past week as the baby mama had her tonsils out. I'm reminded of the demands of a young farming family & have to admit that I'm glad those days are behind me. Had some great catch-ups with cousins via zoom & over coffee. Besides getting the taxes done, I got the freezer defrosted & cleaned under the appliances. Got a haircut & the annual mammogram. Walked 4 miles outside this week & worked on my granddaughter's scrapbook project. Meals this week: black bean tortilla soup; penne w/ Italian sausage; pork chops & roasted veg. Have a good week.

You got a lot done around the house - good for you. Got to love family time any way you get it.
      Have a lovely week.

  8. Happy Sunday! Love the verse and prayer, Cheryl. So true. Weather in the AZ mountains has been dysfunctional. We've had sun, rain, hail, snow flurries, thunder... all in the same day a few times this past week. Rain forecast for tomorrow and Tuesday, then snow on Wednesday and Thursday. I did a little weeding around the daylily area (both sides of the walkway), and saw the first shoots of daylilies emerging!!!! Woo-hoo!!!

Busy week, for the most part. We got a lot done. Of course, there are always other projects waiting. This coming week will be taxes, Blue's grooming (she's shedding bunches), odds and ends, and BIL's arrival to stay. Deals over the last week were the strawberries at Safeway, 2 lbs. at $1.27 lb., Free Range eggs at Walmart at $2.67 per dozen (super low for here), Pepperidge Farm stuffing mix at $1 per bag (Walmart unadvertised special), and an order at Kohl's (online) for 4 polo shirts and 4 tee shirts in my size, less than $30 shipped. Because warm weather *will* arrive. And yesterday I found a huge, older than me canning pot at an antique store for $18.

The crock pot blueberry jam was the best batch I've ever made. I had 48 oz. of blueberries for $10. This time I did buy SureGel low sugar/no sugar pectin. 2 T. lemon juice and 1/2 cup sugar, with the berries, made 3 pints of jam. I'll do strawberry next. Then I might try apple cinnamon. It's been more than a decade since I've made jam; Hubs is loving it. Makes me wonder if we should plant berry vines at the back of our acre? They attract the wildlife so jury is still out on that. Anyway, sorry for always being so wordy!! Blessings for the week ahead. --Elise

You got some really good deals. That is wonderful on the shirts. Home made jam and jelly is just the best.
You have a busy one coming up - don't overdo it.
      Have a great week!

  11. Sunny skies today, but not really warm. I am so looking forward to gardening time, another couple of months to go.

I decided long ago that I live a rinse and repeat life. I am beginning to enjoy that aspect.

    God bless.

  12. Hi Cheryl! I enjoyed reading what you've been up to! : ) Wonderful scripture and prayer too.

It's chilly here too! My little chicks are turning into big chicks and the poor things need to get outside! The cleaning of the large boxes we've put together is not so fun. lol Hay is something I've never thought I would have in the house! *big smile* These little big chicks are a hoot though!

I've started on another light weight cotton lawn fabric skirt and top set. I finished the first one the other day and need to iron. I just do simple tops and a simple skirt and a tie belt. It will keep me cool and looks decent in the warm and hot humid months. I love my tshirts and knit capris but enjoy my skirts too.

Last week I made a vegan applewood sausage with an onion tomato sauce and brown rice. I served with greens. I made stuffed potatoes, (butter and veggie chili on top) with broccoli. Pasta on Thursday and scrambled eggs with toast yesterday evening. Pizza w/a green on Saturday is usually the thing. Watched a goofy movie called "Konga" on Saturday night, it made us laugh. It's a take off on King Kong made in '61. Yesterday evening watched Sue Thomas FBI. Those are always good. Been taking care of little Missy-Christmas after her surgery, thank God it looks like our sweet young vet not only removed her rotted tooth but stitched up the hernia too for no charge. Wow. Thank you Lord! God bless that fella. It's a new spacious animal hospital that takes in farm animals too. So thankful to have a decent vet close by.

Praying for our country. Prayer is the *most* important thing at this point in time as I'm sure you agree totally. God sure sees all and knows all. Psalms 37.

Gotta love that Aldi! Our youngest even loves it, she goes to the one south of us and gets all of her organic stuff and goodies at less than half the normal prices. One of our married daughters has literally cut her grocery bill in half going to Aldi. The Aldi north of us does not have the organics or some of the special items, so if anyone sees try different ones if you need special items.

Well...It's Monday-Monday. I've got my work cut out for me...I think I'll do a big pot of Italian soup with brown rice pasta to go in it. The allergy season is here loud and clear and soup is so good for me right now. I'll be decluttering and giving away...I'm *so* sick of clutter keeping me from what is truly important!

Have a great day Cheryl! Praying for the country.

    1. I bet those chicks are getting big. They will have to go outside soon! What a mess inside.
Your poor baby and what a wonderful vet you have discovered. It is a blessing to have someone you can count on.
Your meals sound good. yes, Aldi is such blessing for many. So much cheaper on many things. I di not know why I don't go more often - it is closer than Kroger.
Your sewing projects sound neat. I do like skirts.
I have been working on my de-clutter all morning! Drawers and more drawers!!!!!! UGH
Have a wonderful week and just keep praying!

  13. Hiya Cheryl, I had not been able to post in a while but I have kept up with you.
It is still cold here in Ireland. I have been keeping myself busy. Next month Joe will be gone 3yrs. and your anniversary will be shortly as well.I am looking forward to the longer evenings.
I am not a big spender and I don’t really meal plan much because I go to my son on Sunday and usually get Mondays dinner home with me. I go to my cousin’s on Tuesday and get a meal home. My family and friends have me spoilt.
Last weekend I was over in Scotland with my son and daughter in law. This coming Wednesday I’m going to Tenerife for 10 nights with my daughter and son in law.
I am slowly making a new life for myself. I have never lived on my own before. I was married for 55yrs and lived in as a nurse before I got married.
    Love reading you blog. Sylvia

    1. Hello Sylvia - glad you are back. HUGS! Yes, those anniversary dates are tough. 4 years next month. I just went through some of G's things this morning and finally got rid of odds and ends from his drawer! Yeah, it took this long.
You have got a nice thing going there with the home cooked meals!!! Good going. I am glad you are doing some visiting and traveling. That is great!
A new life is slow going. Just one small step at a time - but we eventually get there.
Blessings to you this week. Have a wonderful visit!!!!!!

  14. Yes, Pray for the world. It's not easy to pray for Mr. Putin, but he sure needs it, so morning and night I put that man into my prayers. If only the Good Lord would touch the hearts of these political people.

Cheryl, you can write about anything you want. Just what you see in your town, what's in your garden, it's all like getting a note from a friend. I think that's why we keep coming back, you've built bridges all over the place, and it's just fine. I don't think any of us has a Very Exciting Life! :D We just keep plugging along doing the best we can.

It's really hard to discard things from loved ones. I need to dig out some things myself. Maybe on a rainy day...

Thanks. I guess I think most people are more exciting than me! Maybe they aren't. I am just plugging away at life one day at a time and doing the best I can. What else is there?
I have done well with tossing today. Trash comes tomorrow - so much is going out. Other stuff in boxes for donation.
