How Did That Happen so Fast?

Thursday - JUNE 1st!!!!!!!  My goodness, how in the world has 5 months gone by so quickly?  Amazing.  Seems just like the other day we had frigid cold temps, snow and just plain miserable weather!  Now here we are all warm or hot, dry and in the middle of the year!  Time flies!!!!!

Will take a moment to wish all those with a birthday this month a very happy anniversary of your birth!  Another year to enjoy.

This month is the anniversary of my starting this little blog in 2015.  I started with my first post on June 11th.  It is amazing how this is still going after 8 years!  I started it as a diversion for myself and a few friends I had met online.  Look what has happened!  I have made so many wonderful friends here - and I do mean friends.  You have met each other.  I find that so neat that we can all have such bonds with one another when we have only met online.
There are so many caring and wonderful people here.  We worry about each other, we pray for each other, and we truly care and love one another.  We have been with each other through the best and the worst of times and have made a difference to each other.  That is a pretty terrific thing.

What have you all got planned for June?  I have no specific plans - except to just keep the garden going and hopefully attend a few farm markets until my produce starts.  I am so craving FRESH produce.  Sure I buy stuff at the grocery that is called 'fresh' - but it aint the same!!!!!!!!

We have sure started the month hot!  Going to stay that way for a while and it is pretty darn dry right now.  Doesn't look like rain for a good many more days either.  Will do what needs to be done.  I have been collecting the water from the faucet, as I let it heat up for dishes or bath.  That will help with watering.
Yesterday I did get the very last thing planted!  I had 4 cuke plants started from seed, that got put into pots yesterday.  I am officially done with garden planting.

I pray you all have a very healthy and safe month.  Those who are having any surgeries, treatments, or health concerns - prayers for healing.  I hope your gardens take off and do well.
Stay cool and cozy and enjoy this new month to the fullest.

Have a blessed month my friends.
Thank you so much for being here!!!!!!

  1. Spring is busy, isn't it, Cheryl? I have to remind myself of that. June usually means that we can sit back, take a breath & watch the garden grow. It is also a busy month for lawn maintenance as June is a high growth month. Chuckwagon racing season started yesterday & there will be 2 shows close to home. Friends are involved in the sport which ups the attraction. There's a music festival I'm interested in attending as my friends' daughter is playing with her band. There are still bedding plants to be transplanted; hopefully that will get done this week. And the garden is growing. I watered for an hour the other day & sure enough, it rained that evening!

  2. The weather has certainly been hot! My oldest daughter was born on June 5 and I think this is the first time in 51 years that the temperature has not dropped. Pool parties were kind of a bust, lots of shivering, blue kids! ha!

The Farmer has had trouble getting his carrot seeds to germinate. We planted several rows of green beans yesterday. Plenty (I hope) for canning and then we'll do a second planting. Everything else is in the ground and he has been watering so the plants don't suffer. We have four broccolis just about ready to harvest. I looked at Pinterest to find out how to freeze the surplus.

Happy blogiversary! I am very happy you decided to start a blog!

It is taking a lot of watering for sure. Yum on the fresh broccoli. One of my favorites. It has been a few years since I have grown any.
Thanks! I am glad I started it too!!!

  3. Happy June! May certainly flew buy! June begins canning season for me. Strawberries are already at the market in SW Michigan, and I'll be running over there on Friday with my canning buddy. We'll get quarts for making jam (a batch for me, one for a charitable event I co-host, and my daughter will come and we'll make a batch for her, too), strawberry salsa (for my canning buddy), and I want to make a batch of strawberry lemonade concentrate and one of strawberry vinaigrette, which I'll split with both. Continuing to keep my planters well-watered during this dry spell. We got about 5 minutes of sprinkles yesterday -- not enough to do much of anything.

  5. The first four months of this year dragged for me, with the horrid cold and snowy weather, but May flashed by! I suspect June is going to do the same.
My goals for June is to have the indoor construction finished, a bit of landscaping completed in the back yard, and fingers crossed have the house listed for sale. I've got big plans, hopefully they all come to fruition.
Meanwhile I'll keep enjoying the sunshine (and the rain too).

  12. Hi Cheryl! Happy Anniversary on your blog! That's great! : ) Your blog is a very special place for sweet people, the way blogging should be. What a blessing!

We're back from hubs cataract surgery and thank the good Lord all went well and you are so correct, even last night.."I can see the guide on the television now, we were watching 'Halls of Montezuma' and he was exclaiming how clear everything was and so colorful! He said the surgery wasn't half bad after the nurse helped him in the car, he was a little doped up with Valium on the way home and said something pretty funny as I drove. His follow up this morning was a very good report and so thank God, thank God. A pleasant experience in the waiting room, everyone waiting around for friends and relatives quietly, one lady who I think was a patient of some kind decided she would lay on one of the couches with an afghan over her and read! It was a huge waiting room with room to spare so no biggy and I was glad to see her make herself at home! lol

I picked three cucuzza squash from our garden, so now I have three, that will make a nice pot of cucuzza squash I make Italian style in a tomato based gravy over pasta. And yes, ma'am it is hot outside!

Our washer is out and the new one is being delivered the tenth. Yikes. We had a five year warranty we purchased on the last one that lasted not even two years and they just gave us the money to buy another one so that worked! But I will have to wait... So washing things by hand is a whole new ballgame. It's a good thing I had some extras in the bath towel department.

Your blog is a blessing to many of us Cheryl. Such a sweet place. ~Amelia

    3. Yes, can you believe these washers? I think three years is the longest I've been able to keep one running since they changed to computer panels. The five year warranty is very worth it because of the problem.

    4. Thank you Elise! I've gotten to the point where I'm starting to just immediately rinse things out if a smaller item, and hang to dry and then put them in the dryer when I get enough. 14. Super busy today at my house. The aunts and uncle (from Phoenix) haven't yet seen our place; since they'll be in town today to help BIL with his place, we want to get some things pulled together here. We've arranged dinner at our house on Saturday night, when we'll have a family birthday dinner for Hubs (his birthday is the 5th and he'll be 63). One year ago we were still staying with our son, waiting to be able to move in. WOW.

The first thing that came to mind, Cheryl, when you wondered about BIL having family coming to help him when we didn't... well, we were fully capable of doing it ourselves. The aunts and uncle are in their 70s and have various health issues. I wouldn't have dreamed of asking for their help, let alone expected them to sleep on the floor. I imagine they'll be ready for a home cooked meal in a comfortable space come Saturday evening. ;-)

June is a month of hard work for me, the weather is good for lots of outside work and painting.

Amelia, I agree with you about washing machines with computerised panels, they have a very short life span. They would have to have been in the top five things that people asked for when I oversaw our church thrift store. Everyone always had the same story “ oh had an old one for years, got a new one and it’s only lasted three/ four/ five”
I must have heard it hundreds of times.

June plans include taking the car in on Tuesday for the annual state safety inspection and a new battery. The battery is getting old, and I don't want to take any chances. I go to the dentist at the end of the month.
Temps near 90F the next couple of days with no chance of rain until at least mid-week, and then only a tiny bit. Will be using city water for the gardens starting today. At least the tomatoes, zukes and peppers like the weather. By the middle of next week our highs will be in the 60s. From one extreme to the other.

    2. After two days on the increased meds, his BP has come down 40 points, and both days' readings were not so wildly different from each other. He is much better, and I am feeling better because of that.
Besides the "prescription" to read the book on how to do Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on my own, I was also ordered to exercise. I'd not been walking since Husband's crisis. I've been to the trail two days in a row. I also looked into membership at a gym near here. Membership is only $28/mo. through our health insurance plan. (I'm too young for Silver Sneakers.) I think I will sign up in the Fall. Since the Dr. ordered me to exercise, Husband is more on board with me taking time to do that.

  24. Hi Cheryl and Happy 8th blog year. I have not been reading quite that long. I had my knee surgery on Wednesday instead of tomorrow as there was a cancellation. I was in a room with a lady from the next town and wow was she a chatterbox. Made the time go pretty fast. She was in for a new hip and pretty nervously. I came home yesterday. My husband was volunteering at our local country fair this morning, so I'm just going to get up and get dressed. Did not want to try the stairs alone.

Shout out to any Catholic readers; it's the month of The Sacred Heart of Jesus. I got a great devotional book and promised youngest son to attend Latin Mass with him at a nearby church this month (haven't been to one since I was a child). We raised our sons with exposure to various churches over the years. Both attend non-denominational churches now, but have respect for all Christians. The month of The Sacred Heart doesn't have to be limited to Catholics. Isn't it interesting, though, that June is that month? Which isn't said to offend anyone, btw.
