Happy Sunday to all. Hoping this finds you all well. Can you believe that we have just a little over a week left in July? How did that happen??
It is a cloudy and muggy morning - yet again. Clouds have been keeping the temps down a little bit. Finally had a day or two that didn't get into the 90's! Yesterday morning had some really bad fog for a while. Seems we get rain, for at least a while just about every day. More expected today.
I finally got my registration and vehicle sticker well over 2 weeks late! I mailed it as soon as I received it, and it took forever to get it back this year. I am sure glad I didn't get stopped when out and about!
My frugal week:- I did make a quick & small run to the feed store
- I gifted a neighbor a pet 2 step stair for her little dog. She was happy, now her baby can get on the bed by herself! I had 2 from when Blackie got weaker - so I gave her one - something else out of the house
- Hard boiled 6 eggs
- Paid a couple bills over the phone
- Made hummingbird nectar
- Used SodaStream for fruity carbonated water
- Raked - yep, it is that time for the tulip poplar tree to start shedding - used leaves to mulch behind shed as a weed shield
- Cut wild stuff growing on both sides of both fences
- Used dehumidifier water in laundry
- Used a small mis-shaped zuke shredded in taco beef for extra nutrients
- Mowed over a couple days and finally got to do a good trim on Friday when a bit cooler and less humid. Amazing how quick it all grows!
- Emptied all the change from purse - it weighs so much less! I will never be completely broke - I have jars and containers full of change all over the place
- I ran across the street one morning to a neighbor yard sale. She is the one that always has pretty, good brand clothing. I usually get a couple new pieces each summer for next to nothing. I got 3 shirts (for nice), one summer dress (for around house) and a sweater coat (it is gorgeous) - all high quality for $20
- No grocery
- Picked 4 zucchini, 3 cherry toms, and 2 peppers
- Using what I have and cooking at home
- Working more on deep cleaning
Meals this past week:
Fish fried in browned butter and salad
Egg/cheese sandwich and salad
Meatball (freezer) sub (hotdog bun) and fries (air fryer)
Nachos
Fried okra & fried zucchini and half a ham sandwich
Chef salad
Chicken tenders (air fryer) and fried corn/onion in butter
SNACKS: popcorn, trail mix, fruit
I stuck around here most of the week and just stayed pretty darn frugal. Got things done outside when I could - it has just been so humid and hot - have to work mornings. I did walk a couple cooler mornings. Talked with my siblings several times this week.
How has your week been? Did you get any deals? How are those gardens doing?
Look forward to hearing from you all.
Hope you all have a lovely week and please stay safe and healthy. I hope you all keep all our friends and their families in your prayers.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

"If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, to be with you for ever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him; you know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you."
John 14:15-17
Lord, we know You are with us in every day in everything we do, and we are so happy. No matter what happens all around, You are with us. We pray that all who are ill or suffering in some way, will have Your healing hands upon them. Guide us each one to be our best and do our best to be kind and caring to all. AMEN
Yes, it is hard to believe that we are more than half way through July. Where has the year gone? Pooof!
ReplyDeleteWe've had more rain - yesterday there was over an inch. Bean vines are blooming, so I'm hopeful, but the rain could keep the bees away and then..... no beans? This is Peach season so this week I hope to run to the Farmer's Market on the other side of the county and get peaches. There's one variety I *really* like, Red Globe. :)
Yes to your prayer this day. Every morning and every evening I pray for those who are ill or in pain. Seems like my list is growing longer, not shorter.
I'm always nervous about the car registration and stickers. One year I actually went to the local DMV office in person because nothing had come. Of course the day after that the papers showed up in the mail! :)
MaryB
The bees are still around here even with the rain - so good luck. Hope you find your peaches!
DeleteSo many need our prayers - spoken and unspoken - I hope we can all do a little.
I had made plans to go to the DMV to check and yep, the day before I planned they came. Funny how that works!
Have a wonderful week.
Speaking of mail being messesd up and delayed... my credit card payment was returned to me this weekend - Address Unknown, Unable to Forward. I'd used the window-envelope and the payment slip provided by the card company, so I kinda think it's a PO failure. Now the payment was late and I had to call in the payment. How annoying. Well, that got my heart rate up and my blood pressure too! :D Very glad I'd gone to the bank a while back to see exactly how to do such a phone-in payment.
DeleteMaryB
WOW - I think it happens more than we know. I have one PO by the grocery that I won't use any more. Every time I do - it takes weeks for my stuff to get where it is supposed to be. Not sure why - it seems just that one. I have been calling in a lot more stuff in the past few months. I still won't do it over the computer.
DeleteNuts - how you had the enclosed address slip and all. Yep PO failure.
Good morning, Cheryl. I appreciate your simple life. You seem to take pleasure in the day-to-day. I do, too. This week's routine was punctuated by a Bowen therapy session, the homecoming of my cousin 4 mos after a medical emergency, a day with the neighbor little while her parents were busy w/ haying & a dental appt, a celebration of life for an old neighbor who passed away at the age of 98 yrs. In the kitchen: homemade yogurt; enchiladas; carrot ginger soup; pickled eggs; puffed wheat & rice krispie squares; mediterranean pasta (penne noodles w/ sauteed zucchini, peppers, tomatoes); spatchcocked chicken on the bbq w/ potato salad.
ReplyDeleteThank you - I really enjoy the simple life. I am not a fussy person or a person that need to impress. I am just me and simple is how I like things.
DeleteGlad your cousin is home. Sounds like you kept busy - but a nice busy. Sorry for the loss of your neighbor - a long life lived indeed!
Your cooking all sounds yummy.
Have a super week.
Cheryl, the fruity carbonated water sounds really nice.
ReplyDeleteIt is hot here (92-93 F.) and not quite as much rain this week but enough.
I have a costly plumbing problem so I’ve been black belt frugal (turned up my a/c for one thing) and will continue that way as much as possible. (I have the money but want to take it from cash flow instead of sinking funds, if possible.)
This week I dropped another big box of books at the book rescue place. It is a congested location for me but they have a wonderful store/community center where they sell the books/magazines/puzzles etc. very cheap. Comfortable chairs for people to browse books and even wheelchairs for those who need them. Also, I gave another car load of donations to Salvation Army. I have more to give.
Even though I don’t really stockpile, I’m using up stuff and have spent only $63.70 on food this month and plan to spend about $13.50 this week on sale items and that should hold me through the month.
Bought gas (only time this month) and saved .50/gallon using money earned through the gas company rewards program.
Rolling over a CD tomorrow and while at the bank will cash in 2 rolls of pennies ($1).
Signed up for Britbox through a Roku deal -.99/month for 2 months. I’ve been watching a really good show I discovered on the flight back from the UK. I really cannot hear movies or tv on a plane even with headphones.
Sorry about the plumbing issues. They can be costly. Good to cut back and use those funds instead of making debt. Hope you get it fixed easily.
DeleteYou have been doing good. Always good to get things out of the house. Good on the grocery buys! I do gas once a month - usually end of the month, just to top off.
You are really doing good - keep it up.
Have a lovely week.
The weather here has been really humid too. It makes me not want to get out there in it. I'm glad you got your vehicle registration and sticker back, that did take a long time. Usually its like the next day or so. I love our tulip poplar trees as the flowers are so beautiful. They are very tall though, hard to see from inside the house, so outside works best for viewing. Good deals on the yard sale clothes (my favorite summer activity). Your meals sound delicious. I'm making Italian sausage spaghetti using that trick you told me about with the beef bouillon and turkey meat. I hope you have a wonderful Sunday!
ReplyDeleteIt seemed to take forever this year on the tags.
DeleteI really like the tulip poplar - but they sure are messy most of the year it seems.
Thanks - she always has nice items for sale. She is my 'new clothes' every year!
Thanks. That sounds yummy - enjoy.
Have a great week.
Excellent devotional! The promise of receiving the Holy Spirit is what keeps us going. He is our guide.
ReplyDeleteZucchini season has begun in earnest. The yellow ones are still producing. I need to pick green beans...will have to see if it is still raining. Today is not a good day for working outdoors. I picked raspberries early this morning but other than that, too soggy. Looks like tomorrow will be a washout. Oh well, there are always chores to do inside.
Sometimes the BMV is slow sending things out. The Farmer needs to renew his driver's license next month.
You got some great stuff from your neighbor's yard sale! I have been looking at dresses but they are cheaply made and too much $$$.
Thank you. I have no idea where my life would be without God.
DeleteYep, tis the season!! I love that things are starting to flourish for many. We have had rain off and on all day now.
I didn't get the notice until first of June - sticker expired 6/28. I mailed immediately and I still didn't get until this week! he might want to just go in and get it!
I like a nice little dress now and then - they are comfy.
Have a fantastic week.
Sounds like a productive frugal week, with delicious foods.
ReplyDeleteIt's been hot around these parts, as always during the summer, but we're in a dry semi desert climate which does make it more bearable.
Thanks - got some stuff done. Hot is the word for summer! I could handle it better if it weren't for the muggy yucky humidity! Foods were simple, but tasty.
DeleteHope you have a lovely week.
I can't believe it's almost August already. It feels like yesterday it was May. I guess as you get older, time really does fly by.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a pretty nice week. Your meals all sound delicious and perfect for this time of year. Tonight, we're having BLT's and zucchini fries.
Do you have a heat wave coming here like we do this week? If so stay cool. Have a great week.
It sure does seem to fly by. Crazy! Thanks. I want to come to your house tonight - 2 of my favorites!!
DeleteYep, by about Wednesday the heat is back with a vengeance, and not looking forward to it. Humidity is supposed to be extra high as well. UGH
Stay cool and safe and have a great week.
I go to the county courthouse to renew my tag. This county does not send out notices anymore. We have to remember what month to renew and I am always down to the wire.
ReplyDeleteSome sort of insect bit my eyelid while I was asleep and I had to visit Urgent Care. Swelling has gone down some with meds. Driving with one eye to Urgent Care was zero fun. I swear between my tooth removal and random bug bites this summer my face has looked like I was in a bar fight… and lost. I don’t go to bars but I could tell everyone at Urgent Care looking at me the bite was as bad as I thought… lol. Cindy in the South
