Good day on this first Sunday of July! Hope this finds you all well and safe.
Hope those in the US had a nice holiday. I am glad it is over! Friday sure wasn't the night for peace or rest.
The people behind my next-door neighbor, went nuts again this year. It started at 3:30PM and stopped at 2AM!! There were about 2 - 15-minute breaks in that time. The hundreds and hundreds of dollars that they blew up!!!!! Licorice didn't like it at all. He came out to eat his dinner, then he hid under my back steps. Bitsy didn't even like it, he stayed out of the bedroom (part of house closest to noise) until it was all over. I guess thankfully, they were about the only ones in the neighborhood getting stupid this year.
Again, my days were all mixed up! I kept thinking Friday was a Saturday since neighbors were home from work. Yesterday seemed like a Sunday. I should get back on track today. It is amazing to me, as hot as it has been, that the squirrels are eating so much! I would think in the heat, they would slow down. I have to add or clean water in all the water holes several times a day. The birds sure do love having that water around.
It has been hot! I have watered some days. Been trying to do yard things when the temps are down in the mornings. The humidity has been miserable.
Yesterday morning, I could hardly see the houses across the street it looked so foggy. According to the news it was NOT fog - but smoke being held in the atmosphere! We registered some of the worst air quality in the world yesterday morning!!!!
Looking forward to chances of rain this week!
My frugal week:
- Picked rhubarb
- Made a rhubarb/peach cobbler in the air fryer! I used a can of cinnamon rolls I found in the fridge (way past date) and used them as a topping. My 8" round cake pan fit perfectly in the air fryer tray! It was tasty
- Trimmed back all the back shrubs
- Spent a day visiting with sis
- Defrosted & used the last piece of pork roast from freezer (cooked at Easter)
- Received my Kroger coupon book in mail
- Cut 2 different bouquets this week for the house
- Did lots of weeding - it never stops
- Mowed and trimmed the entire yard (did it in 3 or 4 trips outside)
- I did a super deep clean of the deep pantry/office room. Started decluttering some stuff and reorganized & dusting/cleaning
- Started working on stuff in the basement - decluttering things I haven't used in several years - very overwhelming
- Lots of laundry
- I did go to Kroger and got a watermelon (super good), cheese and corn (all on sale)
- I cleaned out one big area of lilies, deadheading all the stems - one more big area to go
- Got my $30 check for showing up for jury duty call
- Picked my FIRST zucchini!!!! Many more will be ready this week!
- Using the rain barrels when needed
- Cooking from scratch and eating at home
Meals this past week:
Broccoli/cauliflower/bacon salad, chopped steak w/grilled jalapenos
Pasta w/sauce and veggies & dip
Pork/jalapeno and cheese wraps
BBQ pork/cheese baked potato
Cheeseburger and salad
Jalapeno smoked sausage on bun and salad
Broccoli mac & cheese and corn
SNACKS - watermelon, cobbler, pork sammie, peaches
There you go. Just hanging out and doing things when the weather allows - and it when it is too hot, I have been working on decluttering and cleaning. Eating somewhat light. I have been craving jalapenos lately for some reason - not a lot, but a few. (that is as hot as I can go).
I did go out and sit on porch for a few minutes early before working, and then a couple times late evening. Haven't done my walking this week - but have done yard work (and sweating) and doing the basement stairs a lot!
How has your week been? Did you have any big celebrations over the past couple days? Find any good deals?
Prayers for all those folks in Texas - such a sad disaster again! SO many areas have flooded in the past year or so from storms.
I hope you all have a safe, cool and lovely week ahead. Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
Romans 12:12
Dear Lord
May we all mindful and prayerful for others and our families. Embrace our hopes and dreams and be happy with what we receive always. May we all understand that all people have sadness and problems in life, and we all need to allow ourselves the grace and time to get though things. Never ever stop with prayer. It does work in Your time and way. Help us to remember that Thy will be done.
Thank You for all our many, many blessings - big and small. AMEN
Those Texas floods - OMGoodness, how horrible. Prayers. Memories of last fall's hurricane here. :( So sad.
ReplyDeleteMaryB
Just so very, very sad. I remember all the devastation there as well. Hurricane has just started too.
DeleteHave a blessed week.
July starts with a bang! Canada celebrates Canada Day on July 1 & there are many celebrations across the country. I attended the parade & festivities in our little town, always a great gathering of the community. The parade was just in time for the "rinse cycle" with rain ending when the parade finished but it didn't seem to dampen anyone's spirits. The potatoes were hilled & garden weeded. Carrots have just poked through the ground; it was just too cool & dry in the spring. Three pea plants have sprouted; I'm debating whether to replant at this stage of the game. In the words of my late mother, "Try it and see." The Calgary Stampede got underway on Fri so my evenings are spent watching the televised chuckwagon races & cheering on the friends who compete there. Attended another maternal cousin reunion. Sadly, one more was laid to rest since the last reunion 2 yrs ago. In the kitchen: sauteed veg w/ rice; finished that dish off toppped w/ tomato sauce; lettuce salad; chicken thighs.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got to enjoy a grand celebration. Nice that the rain didn't dampen spirits.
DeleteGardens are coming along here. I guess you are probably a month or so behind us. Heck, plant more if desired!
Sorry for the loss of another family member. Seems to happen a lot more the older we get.
Good food! Enjoy the chuckwagon events.
Have a good week.
Excellent devotional! That scripture says it all. Pray without ceasing.
ReplyDeletePoor kitties! Can't believe those fireworks went on so long. Did they win the lottery? $$$ up in smoke. I noticed the acrid smell when I got up the next morning. The fireworks in our neighborhood were especially loud this year. I was outside finishing some weeding and Jacob was terrified. I told him to come sit by his mommy. I finished up and took him inside. Riley is usually the one affected by the booms.
You are doing some deep decluttering! I need to do that in certain areas of the house. Very satisfying when it is finished.
Stay cool.
Hoping the weather forecast is correct and we get a little rain. Those poor people in Texas. It does bring to mind the conditions in Appalachia last year.
We had a small yellow zucchini and some kale in our scrambled eggs this morning. Still have green onions and frozen peppers. Makes a dandy omelet. Some peppers are coming on but not quite ready for harvest. Picking small tomatoes. I told the Farmer that you couldn't get that in any restaurant. I sautéed sliced yellow zucchini and onions on Saturday and we put them on our barbeque chicken tacos. Hoping to have some larger ones this week to spiralize with red sauce.
I doubt the won the lotto - just how they are. They tend to spend on toys and stuff. SMH
DeleteIt did stink. I talked with a neighbor who big old dog (pit) was so scared - he said he tried to hide under the bed (all that fir was his head). LOL. But even the next morning, he didn't want to go walk - just potty and done.
Poor babies - just don't understand. Neither do I - but I can cope.
Yep - DEEP decluttering. Not fun.
Your omelet sounds fantastic! I love having the fresh garden 'grow'ceries. So many uses. The tacos sound yummy too.
Yes, the TX weather is so similar to last year in Appalachia. Just so sad.
Enjoy that garden. Have a great week.
My heart just breaks for those who lost their lives, and their families, in the Texas flooding. Such a tragedy.
ReplyDeleteIt is heartbreaking. I think about the griping I did about the 4th and it is just an annoyance - those people have HUGE problems and loss. We just never realize how blessed we are.
DeleteHave a wonderful week. Hope you are feeling better each day.
Sounds like you've been keeping yourself really busy. Your meals all sound delicious too.
ReplyDeleteIt's just so sad what happened in Texas. I mean who expects water to raise so much so very quickly? I heard something like 30 feet in 45 minutes.
Stay cool and have a great Sunday!!
I have been keeping busy - it feels pretty good. Accomplishing things.
DeleteIt all happened very fast and no they say it wasn't expected. Just so sad.
You too and have a great week.
So sad about the folks in Texas, especially the children. We spent a good bit of time in church today praying for them. My understanding is that teams and supplies are going to be sent in to help as needed. No one wants to get in way of the rescuers. I really made
ReplyDeletetoo many baked beans. I think that and the watermelon and potato salad will be on the menu until I finish them off… lol. I don’t like food waste. The tiny town where I lived had fireworks yesterday ( Saturday) but only for an hour. They were pretty. Now the 4th here was wild with folks shooting off their own fireworks but it pretty much ended by 10. I fell asleep bc I was so tired from my trip so I am not really sure of the time but woke up for a bathroom break at 1 am and all was quiet. Cindy in the South
The children situation is incredibly sad. I have a friend that lives in TX and she has shown a lot of pics of rescue teams heading that way to help.
DeleteIt is all so yummy - I could eat it until done! That kind of fireworks would be great - just not at my back door! Glad people in your area seem to have some sense! AND they held on to their $$! I bet you were just worn out.
Have a lovely week.
The kids are what really bothers me as a parent. I just can't stop thinking about how terrified they must have been. And the pure horribleness of some people on social media I just can't believe.
ReplyDeleteWe do a few small fireworks here, we can't do anything big because of all the trees, but they are so expensive. The park does a big show with the fair but expensive to get in, overcrowded, and if you stay out of the park and try to park somewhere to watch, those spots fills up hours in advance. Not worth it, so we pick up a few for the kids. One of my cats is scared of the noise, but he is literally scared of almost everything.
No frugal doings. Expensive week compared to usual (fireworks, new vacuum as mine died a couple of weeks ago, had pizza delivered when we had extra visitors we weren't expecting). I did get a few more things from the relatives that are moving, water guns and boots which I passed on to my husband nephews.
Those poor babies. I cannot even begin to imagine, nor do I want too. Their parents must be horrified. Too much to even think about sometimes.
DeleteSmall fireworks are cool. We used to be able to see the city fireworks from our backyard when we moved here - now the trees block the view.
Some weeks just aren't going to be frugal. Life happens. It sounds like a fun week at that.
Hope you have a great week ahead.
So heartbreaking - the kids at camp really got me :( I am not a fan of the 4th - not the holiday itself, of course, but the whole fireworks thing - am thankful that personal fireworks are illegal where I live so it's only the planned fireworks which are over by 10:30. My poor rescue dog hides in the basement shaking for that hour and a half, I can't imagine it going on until 2am!
ReplyDeleteYes, those sweet babies. Unimageable.
DeleteGlad they are outlawed there - I wish that were the case here. City displays are ok (they know what they are doing). General folks, I don't trust much. Poor pup!
Have a lovely week.
I am continuing to prayer for the people in Texas. The numbers just keep getting worse today. Tragic, especially for the children.
ReplyDeleteWe had heavy rain off and on for the 4th so not a lot of neighborhood fireworks but still there were some by neighbors around the corner who can least afford it.
I am decluttering. I’ve been through a massive declutter (a few years ago) but still have too much stuff. My goal is to open drawers and closets and see at least some empty space. I’m getting there. Today I’m going through my genealogy research and I have made progress whittling it down.
It is just heartbreaking.
DeleteI kept hoping it would rain - but it would have just delayed the inevitable.
Good for you. That is what I want to do as well. It is freeing to let things go or just throw out things. The basement is overwhelming for me, so I really need to work on it big time.
Be proud!
Have a super week.
Do it a little at a time. I can imagine that a basement is overwhelming. I’m thankful that we don’t have basements in Florida but I do have a cluttered 2-car garage!
DeleteI am going slowly - but years' worth of stuff down there. So much to go through. Just a bite at a time!!!!
DeleteWe currently have cooler temps and a bit of rain, though the heat is expected to return later this week. I, too, am horrified by the flooding, death and destruction in Texas. I hope that all who are lost will be found, it must be excruciating for the families.
ReplyDeleteI think we cool a bit this week, and have chances of rain off and on. I would love cooler!
DeleteBless their hearts, it is just awful. Horrifying is a good word.
Have a great week.
4th July was the 3rd anniversary of my mother's death. I feel for my sister in Chicago as it must be like having a bereavement at Christmas and then being surrounded by people celebrating on the anniversary of it each year.
ReplyDeleteI distracted myself by making a beaded fabric choker for my best friend who is attending a family wedding in the tropics in September. She wanted jewellery in colours to match her dress, but reacts with metal when it is hot, so asked if I could help her. She supplied the fabric, the beads and the idea. I supplied the labour. I haven't done much beading before and all I can say is that it was a real labour of love!
Apart from that I have been doing some gardening and catching up on housework, following my trip to London.
The news from Texas is terrible. When something like that happens I really do feel that we are a global village and that the horror of it hits home wherever you live in the world.
I am so sorry - that would be awful to have a death on a holiday like that. Those days are tough.
DeleteI bet the choker is lovely. That sounds pretty neat.
Enjoy your gardening. Settling back in after a trip is exhausting and nice at the same time.
Yes the news is horrible, and it does affect the entire world. You are so right. I like that wording of 'global village'.
Have a nice week.
My heart breaks for those in the floods of Texas. So many dead, so many still missing. So many young children who will not grow up to enjoy their lives.
ReplyDeleteYep, the weeding never really seems to end.
God bless.
