Happy Sunday to all. Hope this finds everyone well and safe.
It is a very chilly (cold) morning. I do believe we are about to get whiplash from the huge roller coaster of weather we have been having!! It has been a crazy winter so far. Ups and downs - and not just little ones. By the way - Canada you can have your cold back!! They say the air we are getting now is coming in from the north, not a fan. Yesterday they predicted rain - we just had drizzles here. Snow was predicted overnight - I wouldn't even call it a dusting. I see a lot of big old flakes coming down right now. A LOT! It didn't last either! Considering the changes we keep seeing, it truly hasn't been bad so far.
This week has been kind of quiet for me. I am mainly just doing things around the house and trying to use what I have and cooking some.
I think winter has just set in for my mind, and I have been doing some resting and chilling out. Catching up on some reading and TV watching.
My frugal week:
- Made half dozen hard boiled eggs for snacks
- I did run out one day to get some extra cat food to have on hand. I also got some carrots, lettuce and cukes.
- While out I ran into the thrift store and looked around. I got a brand new in package queen set of sheets for $5 (Target brand)!!! I also got a free loaf of fancy bread
- I made potato soup one day - using up some older potatoes, added a can Nacho cheese soup and cut up some jalapeno summer sausage in it. Dang it was good.
- Froze 2 containers of soup and some of the dump cake I made the week before
- Changed out the door decor and the yard flag from Christmas
- I actually got to air the house a little a couple of afternoons and turn the heat off for a good while
- Been doing some deep cleaning - going a room at a time
- Pulled out some cooked turkey to use in a couple meals
- Got to talk with a couple far away friends this week - loved it
- Using what I have on hand, staying home, making a few plans for things I will accomplish after all the family visits are done next week - just being mindful of what I have
Meals this past week:
l/o pizza pasta, l/o black eyed peas and a shredded cabbage salad
Tangy cheesy potato soup and crackers
Soup and crackers again
Hard shell tacos
Grilled cheese and added the l/o taco meat to it! (messy but so good) and salad
Turkey/ham/veggie wrap
Cheesy mac w/chopped turkey and peas added
SNACKS - hard boiled eggs, apples, summer sausage, cheese
There you have - pretty quiet. Bitsy loved getting a little fresh air from the windows this week. I still have momma and kitties hanging out - and Licorice and 2 other neighbor cats - oh my! I swear there has to be a sign somewhere!! But you know me, I can't say no to kitties.
I will be getting things ready for when the kids come up next Sunday. I do believe I have everything I need to make my menu I have planned - may need to get some slider buns - but that is it.
How was your week? Are you chilling out and taking a breather from the hectic holidays or are you doing a lot? Did you get any deals this week? How is your weather?
I hope you all have a blessed week ahead. Stay healthy, safe and warm. Prayers of healing for all those in need.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
Romans 12:12
Thank You Lord for this new day and for the guidance in all we do. Thank You for giving us peace in our hearts and help us to spread that peace and calm in all we do, with love, actions and kind words. Give us strength this week to face any challenges we meet and help us to know that You are always with us.
AMEN

A quiet week sounds good to me, though you definitely were productive.
ReplyDeleteI've had the furnace on here in Yuma, as it gets quite cool at night. Later in the day I'm able to open the window and the door to let in fresh air - though it is hasn't reached 70F most of the week.
I bet, as you sounded as if you had a busy week. Vacation should be more laid back!
DeleteChilly nights and warm days sound lovely. I bet it still beats what you would have had at home.
Have a great week.
Yes, this is a recovery week after being away for most of 2 wks over the holidays. The dump of snow from last wk has been cleared & temps are hovering around 0C, mild for Jan. Christmas has been taken down. I'm still enjoying the glass brick lights & the outdoor lights. More daylight is creeping in & it's very encouraging. My massage therapist of >10 yrs has retired, much to my chagrin, so I had an appt with a new one this past wk. My neighbors, of Ukrainian descent, had me over for the Orthodox Christmas celebration on Jan 7. And yesterday I attended an "Elbows Up" house concert celebrating Canadian music - Trooper, BTO, Gordon Lightfoot, Stompin' Tom Connors, April Wine, Joni Mitchell. This couple's basement is decorated like an English pub; they call it The Dank & Musty. He plays guitar; she sings. The play list included songs he could play, she could sing & what they like. Spectacular. In the kitchen: roasted chicken thighs & nalysnyky; l/o turkey rice soup; falafel. On the to-do list today: defrost the chest freezer. Have a good week, Cheryl.
ReplyDeleteThose recovery weeks are lovely. I still have a homemade material wreath up in the house, which I added lights to - I just like the lights.
DeleteSorry you had to find a new therapist - hope it works out.
Sounds like you have great neighbors - how fun. What a fun music event - that sounds neat.
I had to look up nalysnyky = sounds yummy!
Good luck defrosting the freezer.
Have a super week.
I had to look up nal
It rained five inches here but we are in an extreme drought ( for here) and it was needed. It is now cold again after
ReplyDeletethe beautiful 70’s weather we had for two weeks! I had an eggplant, tahini,
lemon juice, and plain yogurt so I made Baba Ghanoush. I also cooked dried red beans with ham and added at the end some frozen turnip green soup to up the vitamins. That ended up being more
of a thick soup. I also made potato salad and coleslaw, so I guess that is what all I will be eating for Sunday meals and supper most of the week. I will take ham and cheese sandwiches to work. I also bought two bags of apples so will take an apple a day to go with the sandwiches. I am terribly uncoordinated, have been my whole life, and don’t want to slip and fall, so I exercised inside my house. Once the ground becomes a bit more dry, I will start walking after work again. Cindy in the South
Glad you got rain that was needed.
DeleteBaba Ghanoush sounds good. I love how you add greens to things to get extra nutrition.
Sounds like your meals are all set this week and it all sounds wonderful.
I understand uncoordinated! I trip over my feet and walk into walls that have been there forever - have always been clutzy!
Best to stay safe and exercise indoors, when necessary.
Have a lovely week.
Excellent devotional! The Scripture is golden, says it all. Pinned the saying...it says it all.
ReplyDeleteI am impressed that you are doing deep cleaning. That is a part of my goals for January. However, I have gotten a few things accomplished. Best to get cleaning done before we start on gardening. I did find some things that I thought needed replacing...quart freezer bags, honey...they were stashed behind some other things.
My sister-in-law turned 91 yesterday. Alana said she wants to be Aunt Mary when she grows up. She rides her stationary bicycle each morning and is careful about what she eats.
The snow was pretty for the couple of minutes it fell, but we can do without it. Hope all your visiting kitties stay warm.
I just want it all done and like you say - when it becomes nice out, this girl wants to be outside. It is amazing the things you can find - I do the same. Happy birthday to your SIL. Sounds like she keeps active, that is so important as we get older.
DeleteIt was pretty - big old flakes.
Yep, the kitties seem to love it here! They spend a lot of each day outdoors for some reason. I guess they like sunning!
Have a super week.
Bless you for taking care of the earth's babies! We all have a purpose or two in this world. There are many free spay and neuter clinics ( or at least low cost). Contact a local animal rescue for resources. I write a grant each year for my local animal shelter that supplies funds to help people with medical treatment for pets. I don't think a lot of people know that this exists. Many shelters have funds to help the public. erin
ReplyDeleteI have always been an animal lover. We have several trap, neuter and release groups around. I do what I can to help them. I sure couldn't turn away a momma and babies.
DeleteThey are still feral and skittish - but they DO know who brings out food, and they seem to be getting better at not hiding as much.
Have a wonderful week.
Good morning, I love your prayer this morning. It's been pretty cold here in my corner of the world, we have an inversion layer going on makes it too cold to want to go outside. I have been doing some sewing and mending. Watching old movies and just generally a slow down after the holidays. Oh my, how many kitties do you have now?? Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Unusual for you to get such cold isn't it? It is just a good time to stay in and catch up on things.
DeleteI am now feeding 6 outside - Licorice and 2 others, actually belong to a neighbor - but they think this is home! Maybe this momma serves better food - LOL. Of course there is Bitsy indoors.
I just put out food and they eat it.
I hope you have a wonderful week.
I finally got caught up with all my chores and am chilling a bit this weekend. Weather here is like yours, up and down. Going into a cold spell this coming week.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got caught up and can rest some. We get a bit warmer after today for a couple days - then back down to the deep freeze.
DeleteHave a great week.
I’m glad that your weather has not been too bad, Cheryl, and I’m glad that the mom kitty and babies are still taking you up on your kindness. Our weather has been very good, actually shorts weather, but tonight a “cold” snap will come in tonight and last all week.
ReplyDeleteThis morning I worked in the yard doing the never ending trimming. I enjoyed it. I put down more fresh mulch at my old house. I’m “hoping” to call the realtor soon. At my current house the shower guy was supposed to install the shower door on Thursday but he has the flu so hopefully it will be tomorrow, fingers crossed.
I have glaucoma and go to the ophthalmologist every four months for testing etc. I went on Friday and thankfully my eyes were stable. But she told me she is leaving the practice in large part because it has been bought by private equity! (As a journalist, I know how private equity has gutted newspapers.) She could not tell me (by ethics, I assume) exactly where she is going but said two approximate locations. I’ll follow here even though even the closer location will be a much longer drive for me. Kind of upsetting. (Yes there are other ophthalmologists in my area but she specializes in my severe glaucoma.)
Oh shorts weather how I miss it!
DeleteThanks, kitties are my weakness.
How nice that you can be doing yardwork. I sure hope you get rid of the second house soon. That has to be a chore keeping up with two.
I hope you figure out exactly where she goes , since you feel comfortable with her. That is huge.
Have an awesome week.
Good deal on the sheets.
ReplyDeleteI used to say the cats around here just spread the word around the neighborhood to come to my house. We've always had outside strays that show up and never leave. Currently 4, a mama from a stray that showed up a couple generations ago, her kitten, and two other random ones that just showed up one day and never left.
My oldest had his dermatologist check up which is a 3 hour round trip drive in which she was literally in the room for only a minute and felt like such a waste. My hospital and doctors bills have started coming in. I've started physical therapy twice a week at a $45 copay each time. My already crappy insurance is an extra $180 a month. Funds are definitely going to be tighter. I'm going to try my best to stick to curbside pickup except when I have to go in to get his WIC stuff.
I made homemade bread twice this week, used old bananas in a cake, used old sour cream in muffins, used my Walmart+ to save .10 a gallon on gas, ordered extra virgin olive oil on Amazon at about half the price of Walmart, and cashed in a $10 Amazon gift card.
Thanks, I should have bought a couple more sets.
DeleteThey do seem to spread the word, don't they? I have always had many outdoor kitties that I have taken care of over the years. I think at one time I had about 9 outside.
That is a shame that the doctor is so far away. I feel for those of you that have so many medical expenses.
Yes, I bet if you can stay out of the stores more, it will help. You do a lot of good things to help stretch the food and not waste. You should be proud of that.
Have a good week.
Sounds like a good frugal quiet week, Cheryl. My favorite kind. It turned cold here today too with a bitter cold wind. Not my favorite for sure, but can’t complain as it’s been a very mild winter so far. Your meals sound delicious! Taco meat on grilled cheese and the soup ~ count me in. 😂
ReplyDeleteThe cold is for the birds, but yep, can't complain. It is winter.
DeleteI just had a little taco meat left and figured I would try it - gosh, it was tasty. The soup was yums too.
Have a super week.
