Well hello there this Sunday! What a Sunday it is! SNOW, COLD are the words of the day for many of us. It is very snowy here, I have not been out yet today, but I need to soon. Got to clear areas for food and to clear snow from away from the water bowls for the animals. Poor babies. There are so many outdoor cats around here. They all show here for food and water - guess no one else has 'liquid' water available. I feel for the squirrels and birdies as well.
Looking out the windows there are spots where it looks like an inch of snow and places there appears to be well over a foot. I'd day right now we have a good 7.5"-8"+, more coming. It is 10*F at the moment.
I pray you and your families are all safe and well, and that you have heat.
It looks like it will be super cold all week long - nothing higher than teens - but there will be some sun by tomorrow.
48 years ago today we had the big blizzard of '78. Nature sure likes to give reminders - huh?
My frugal week:- Sunday was the family gathering. Had a wonderful time. Lots of leftovers to use this week. Sure glad we didn't plan it for today!
- Put away all the lovely items I received and got all paper and bags back downstairs for next year
- Froze 2 servings of stew leftover from Sunday
- Drinking tea left all week
- I did put more bedding in the greenhouse and doghouse for the kitties - but they have found their own shelter - below ground! They are all using what has to be old groundhog/opossum dens, Under my deck, the neighbor's deck, and the shed across the alley, have all had groundhogs over the years. The cats are using those from what it appears (I mean it keeps wildlife safe all winter). You can tell as they all look 'dusty'.
- I started shopping from the downstairs freezer
- I did run to the store midweek for cat food stock-up. I am good for well over a month now. I did also buy milk and bananas for me. That is it.
- NO PANIC shopping for me
- Using up fresh veggies from Sunday to make salads this week
- I did walk the alley midweek to p/u trash. During weekly trash p/u it was windy
- My garage is not hooked to the generator - and all the heated water holes are attached to the garage. I did get out a heavy duty extension cord to attach to house (just in case).
- I worked on the computer all day Friday trying to figure out the 'reply' problem I was having. I got it done FINALLY. It was frustrating, and I can understand why maybe some just give up and quit posting. Things keep getting added to computers through updates, that aren't wanted or requested - you really have to stay on top of it.
- Made a small ham piece in the air fryer and cooked a small pot of chili
- Started reorganizing the deep overstock pantry and cleaning everything. My hands will touch every item! What a job.
- I did received another gift this week via the mail. I mentioned something off the cuff on Sunday and Tuesday it was here! A multi size jar lid vacuum sealer!! (does reg. and wide mouth)
Meals this week:
Buffet - stew, pulled pork, meat/cheese trays, fresh veggies and all the cracker and breads, desserts
Stew and some desserts
Pork, rice, beans burritos
Pulled pork sliders and salad
Cheeseburger and fresh veggies
Chili and ham sandwich
Chili nachos
Snacked on nuts, toast and jelly, ham slices, meat & cheese, sweets
I sure do hope you are all ok. Life can throw us some surprises and make us each understand just how blessed our normal life really is. Prayers for all in the path of these storms - stay safe and warm.
Blessings to you and yours from me and my humble little home.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
John 14:27
Dear Lord, I ask today that You keep us all safe and protected from the weather and please protect Your creatures of nature, and all the souls that are homeless. Help us each to do our part to help those in need.
Please place Your healing hands upon those who are in need. We thank You for the many blessings that we receive daily. AMEN

The days of winter are numbered & in the words of Waylon Jennings - storms never last. It's been cold, cold here the last few days with temps -35C, -40C. Bright sunshine offsets the cold temps & I can feel the heat of the sun shining through the windows. A cousin spent 3 nights with me this past week. There was lots of good food, visiting, walks, card games. We delivered food to an old couple & to another cousin who has had a stroke. There were some great phone visits with distant relatives. The visit was bookended by an optometrist appt & a haircut. In the kitchen: bacon wrapped meatloaf w/ garlic mashed potatoes & roasted broccoli; turkey rice soup; shrimp scampi. Stay warm.
ReplyDeleteSo right - I am just thinking this is probably the last big blast of winter. I hope so, but spring will be soon.
DeleteIt sounds like a lovely family time and catching up and doing good deeds! What fun.
Your meals sound wonderful and like the comfort food we all like.
Have a super week.
Good morning, I'm glad to hear you are fine, I knew you would be. We are just cold here 25* and fog. Just trying to stay warm here.
ReplyDeleteI'm here! I just came in from moving some snow off the greenhouse (so roof wouldn't collapse) and all-around food and water areas. Front walk - and I am pooped. There is a LOT of snow out there and it is still falling. Sure hope someone wants to make some money in the next couple days!!!! It is fluffy, but so much that it is still heavy to move.
DeleteProbably the most I have seen in years.
I could do 25* and fog. I know that is cold for you and you want your sun to shine!!! Stay in and stay safe and warm. Fog freezes too!
Have a wonderful week.
Excellent devotional! I am grateful for the peace the Father gives us.
ReplyDeletePeople are talking about this being the anniversary of the big blizzard in 1978. It's still snowing pretty good at 10:30 a.m. Good thing we don't have to be anywhere! Will have to wait to use the snowblower on the driveway. The dogs went outside to potty and came right back in. Erin came home a bit early last night and is off today. She did get another opinion on her last cardio-vascular scanning and this doctor said she is fine. That's good news.
Grateful that our power is on and the house is warm, and we have plenty of food to make meals.
I took Riley, my littlest Chihuahua, to the vets on Friday and she says he has kidney cancer. I saw the x-rays and the one remaining kidney is quite large and he has lost over half his body weight. It's a matter of keeping him comfortable, and as far as I am concerned, he can eat whatever he wants. Don't know how long we will have him. The boys are fourteen years old and have been well care for all their lives. Don't know how Jacob will take the loss of his brother.
The neighborhood kitties have a good person to care for them. You! Lots of souls will be out in the cold this week.
Thanks - yes I get much peace from our Savior.
DeleteStill snowing and blowing here too. What a mess. Got it cleaned out where kitties eat and drink. Licorice, gay and old Tom were all here as I was shoveling. Just saw one of the babies come out to eat. They have to be shocked - never seeing this stuff before!!!
Glad for good new on Erin. Hope she gets to stay home tomorrow too.
Poor Riley, that is so sad. We just have to love them and give them whatever they want for their time left. I know Riley will be well taken care of. Jacob will be lost. Sweet babies.
I sure try to take care of all of them. They are God's children too!
Have a safe and good week.
Good morning Cheryl, I was very happy to hear you were all snug and doing well in the storm. My brother in NC has small amount of ice and snow so far, so that is great news. Here in Phoenix…well I won’t mention the temperature ;). I am keeping in touch with my friends back east, two haven’t yet replied so I am monitoring their weather and power grid (not that I can help but I worry and nag them less). Have a good week, Hilogene in Az
ReplyDeleteThanks - it has been a nasty storm for many people. I sure hope your friends are safe and warm. Glad you brother is doing OK. This is probably the most snow I have seen in years. The drifting is really a lot. I will work on it little by little - just hoping someone might want to make some $$!
DeleteHave a lovely week and enjoy your heat!
I'm glad you are keeping safe and warm, Cheryl. I talked with my sister in Chicago a couple of days ago and I am very grateful that I don't live anywhere that gets so cold.
ReplyDeleteYou should be very glad!!! It is miserable with all the snow - then the cold temperatures. I did stay comfortable while out this morning, but I was moving and had layers on. I am ready for spring for sure this year!
DeleteHave a super week. (hope your sis is doing well in all this)
We still have power and water, DS the same, I've heard from him. :) Everything is covered with a thin layer of ice. Looks more like frozen mist than freezing rain, there are no drip signs anywere. Part of my deck is now melting, it'll re-freeze to night. I'm not going out until this is over, that's the plan! :) There are power outages in the county though. More precip is forecast, but it's not happening yet.
ReplyDeleteMonday should be interesting: windy and very cold - single digits at night. Brrr.
Really like your prayer today. Been thinking about a cat I saw up the road, I hope it has a home, but I don't think it does. I told it I'd feed it if it came to my house, but it was so frightened it ran away into the woods.
Stay warm, y'all!
MaryB
Gosh that sounds scary. Ice is so dangerous. Glad you are both ok. Yes, please stay home, even if it is a few days.
DeleteThank you. Poor kitty. It is amazing how much they can do to fend for themselves, they are pretty smart. I hope it comes to visit so you can feed it. I put out food, and whoever needs it gets it. I just love all the animals.
Stay safe and have a good week.
Stay warm and dry. It looks like much of the States are going to getting bad weather of some sort.
ReplyDeleteIt sure does. There is such a big storm going through many states (over 30 I think). Crazy stuff.
DeleteDrying to stay well, much snow shoveling to do.
Enjoy your area and warmth - have a good week.
Cheryl we are snowy and cold here also, I think we got about 7 inches but so hard to tell because of drifts and trees.
ReplyDeleteI bundled up, and moved snow to get to my chickens and clear an area for my dog. I have plenty of wood in for the time being, I will have to clear a path to the wood pile at some point. I take my time and plenty of breaks.
I am always prepped for emergencies and like you made a mid week trip to get extra dog and cat food. Just in case.
I know I won't be leaving the property any time soon, my parking area and lane are too deep. But I am okay, plenty to eat, heat and power. I may get some cabin fever but it will pass.
I will confess to be tired of winter and longing for spring.
I will thaw some chili and have some chili or a chili dog to make me think of summer LOL.
We have no one around here to move the snow so either do it ourselves or wait for it to melt.
JC
That is a bunch of snow up north. I do believe we have finally ended with a good 10"+. Drifts are big. I plan on going no where for the remainder of the month at least. Like you, I will take my time to get it all moved.
DeleteI hope your chickens are ok. Poor things. I bet your doggy isn't happy about doing his business in all this!
Glad you are ok and have everything under control.
Go slow and steady - and stay safe. Have a nice week.
That’s so neat that the kitties are using the groundhog dens to stay warm. When we had outdoor kitties they would get underneath one of Dad’s sheds to keep warm. It sure has been cold this weekend. You have a lot of snow! Stay safe and warm as much as you can.
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty smart. Animals are probably more resourceful than many people.
DeleteIt sure is cold. Did you get a lot of snow or ice? It seems it have been everywhere, and you are in the path.
Please stay safe and warm. Have a nice week.
I'm glad to hear you're safe and warm at home like us.
ReplyDeleteIt is still snowing here but is supposed to end in an hour or so. The temperatures are going to be brutal for the rest of the month.
I'm glad you had a good time with your family and a pretty good week at home.
We're having someone come tomorrow to clean the driveway. TBG doesn't need to be doing it and I know he won't sit by quietly if I say I'm going to do it so this was my solution.
Be safe!!
Still getting a few flurries here - it snowed all day. UGH! I got someone to take care of the worst part here - I did the rest. I will do more tomorrow - after the blowing stops.
DeleteGlad you got someone to take care of things for you.
I think I am done with snow now!!! LOL
Have a safe and good week.
Cheryl, I hope that someone stops by with an offer to clean up your snow. I’m thinking about my 81-year- old cousin in Rhode Island because they are predicted to get 18 inches. He has a snow blower but I still hope he’ll get help.
ReplyDeleteIt’s warm here, a beautiful weekend but it is going to cool down next week. I cleaned up the yard and the screened porch. I want to repaint the floor. Yesterday I got a free large takeout pizza because I’m “new” to the neighborhood (coupon from changing my address). Most of the pizza is in the freezer but Yum! I filled out and signed all the paperwork with the realtor today. One more thing finished.
Barbara M
DeleteThey did. A guy from down the street and he did the worst part for me. I even paid him a lot more than he wanted - it meant that much to me.
DeleteOh lucky you on warm and beautiful! How nice on a free pizza. I remember when people used to get stuff from the Welcome Wagon when moving. That goes back a few years!
YAY - on getting things close to done and wrapped up.
Have a super week.
No snow here, and I almost wish we were getting that as it would mean the temperatures are bearable. Staying in as once again the temperature when I got up this morning felt like -47C or -53F. Things are looking up for next week though which is good. So glad you are well prepared for your storm. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
