Feels Like Puberty in my 60's!!!

Many of us have made it through menopause and survived (not necessarily unscathed)!
Women's bodies sure do go through a lot of changes, when we hit certain ages.  It is NOT FUN!
All kinds of things change.

In my  experience - I NOW have a few more random aches and pains for what appears to be NO reason.  Today I may be fine and tomorrow my hand may hurt - no rhyme or reason!  My hair grays faster (that may be age) - but it also grows much faster!  It also grows in places I don't want it!!!  Then again it has stopped growing at all in other places.  My skin seems to be thinner, but I try to keep it nourished.
So many changes.

In the past year or year and a half my face has started getting blemishes - just like my teen years!  I never had what I would call acne - but I did get blemishes from time to time.
I have tried everything.  I have used aloe soap, black coal tar soap, Neutrogena soap - Aloe Vera gel, Witch Hazel - getting sun - not getting sun - you name it.  I even changed make-up brands and types - not that I wear it much.  I cut things out of my diet.
I finally found what completely takes care of the problem (totally by accident).  I have to use it daily, but it does keep my face clear!

I have had an oily complexion for years and years - suddenly most of my face is dry! WHAT??   I do believe I can thank menopause for that as well.
This stuff works like magic.  It only takes a little bit - but it sure does help.  I would never have thought that lotion would be a cure for blemishes.

So yes, here I am in my mid 60's and I feel like I am going through puberty again!!!!  It has been crazy.  Our body chemistry changes over the years and I guess maybe the PH of our skin changes as well.
I am lucky, that a very simple thing is a fix for me.

I just wanted to share in case someone is having this problem or any other skin condition due to menopause or post menopause.
Don't give up.  Sometimes we happen upon a simple fix - and can thankfully avoid tests or doctors (and hormones in my case).

Do you have any remedies for menopause problems?
I am sure we would all appreciate any hints we can get!

    1. I totally understand. My former next door neighbor told me at the nice age of 92 -"the phrase golden years is a bunch of s#@#! - there isn't nothing golden about them".. LOL
I am sure the ride gets rougher!

  2. At age 38, I still get blemishes. I never had severe acne as a teenager, but I did suffer from breakouts, and they've never really left. My skin has cleared up a bit once I started washing my face with just plain soap, contrary to all the advice I'd read to NOT do that. Eesh! I think bodies just like to be contradictory, just for the fun of it!

    Hang in there! :)

    1. I have a friend that has only used water on her face - never any soap and she has a beautiful complexion.
Yep, our bodies are contrary for sure.

  3. Sorry Cheryl but I had a bit of a laugh as I read this. I get what you mean entirely. I didnt have pimples as a teenager. I was blessed then. Not now. I dont get a lot but every now and again I have pimples. For goodness sakes!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hair? I am turning into a gorilla!!!!!!!!!! If I lived over your way I would be nice and warm. However I live over here in the sub tropics. Today is the second day in a heatwave and we dont have air con. It is going to be another sweaty day for me. Yeh!!!!NOT!!!!!!!!!!! I have been blessed with not getting mood swings. I think I can handle the hair because of this. However with the way this time of life seems to change maybe the hair is a prelude to the mood swings. SO glad to know I am not the only one having so much fun.

    1. Yeah it is kind of funny. You made me chuckle as well!
I feel so sorry for you having such heat. Does no one have air con? That is a blessing here for sure.
Hopefully you don't get the mood swings. They aren't pretty some days!!!!!!!!
      Stay cool my friend

    2. Don't be scared Belinda, Cheryl or anyone else! Three things you always need to keep close: Your sense of humor, a positive attitude and the ability to stay independent (even though that will change as we go along) and keep learning and socializing. Oops that's five. I live in an independent apartment complex for seniors and trust me when I say I see people giving into learned helplessness. Keep on keeping on! Shirley

  5. Jojoba oil is a great thing for skin.
One of my Aunts said that the only thing golden about the golden years was ones urine.
    Blessings to you,

  6. Cheryl, Thank you for the kind words on my last reply. You can't believe how much they meant to me. E-mail addy is my screen name. :)

Yes, menopause here. Never had pimples. Now, I get them. It's hilarious. I read women's skin in perimenopause years will act like a teenage boys skin. They did a medical study on it. Yeah, I don't want to be a teenage boy, lol.

Lots of vitamins. Remembering that NO is a complete sentence. No matter what this is the age and on up we need to take care of ourselves first, no matter how hard that seems. It is super important. I have people around you who love and support you. If they don't you have to drop them. They are going to be the worst thing in your life during these hard transition times. Honestly, toxic people will kill all your frugality goals in a snap. Examples- stress= eating out, shopping to get away from it for a while.

    1. Yep, don't want to be a teenage boy either! LOL

I do take vitamins and minerals as well. I really try to take care of myself. I think I do pretty good. I see a lot of people who say they are younger than me - and I think "well I guess I don't look too bad!".

I recently saw NO as a complete sentence somewhere else. Good advise. We need as much positive in our lives as we can get.
      Take care!!

  7. I've switched to pink dove soap. I love it on my face. I recently used some Oil of Olay soap I found pretty cheaply at Ollie's. I like it, too.

    1. So many things I love have perfume in them, and I am allergic. I have to spray cologne on clothes and use 'Free' laundry soap as I break out. I wish I could use those lovely soaps - maybe I should look and see if they off a perfume free one!
Thanks for making me think on that!

  8. I have gotten a few dark spots on my skin. I have eczema and can't use most lotions. I read about using apple cider vinegar and it worked. I could not believe it. It also works on skin tabs. Who knew? I'm glad you found something that works for you. I am not in menopause yet. Something to look forward to I guess.
