Weekly Wrap-Up 7/14/19

Good morning all.  Half way through July - oh my.  Time is going by so quickly.
It has been hot this week and dry.  So much rain for so long, now hot and dry.  We are never happy!!  LOL.
We actually had a couple days that the humidity was down a bit and I tried to accomplish as much yard work as possible - EARLY!  The first day I actually came close to heat exhaustion.  I started feeling really light headed and nauseated and knew it was time to stop and go in and cool off.

It is going to be hot again this coming week.  We may get a bit of rain come Tuesday/Wednesday from the remains of the hurricane weather moving northward.  By the end of the week they are calling for upper 90's as a actual temperature.  UGH!

My week:
  • Used rain water on my plants - need more rain as barrels are getting low
  • Had my AC check done and all checked out fine
  • Got my eyes examined this week.  Picked up new glasses Saturday and I don't know if I like them or not.  So far - not!  I will try for a while then may need them realigned.    I have 60 days to make changes at no charge.  They said I am early stages of cataracts!  UGH.  I didn't need to hear that.  They dilated my eyes (hate that) and they still don't seem back to normal after several days.
  • Worked on cleaning another closet that was packed!  What a job.
  • I took and donated 3 big bags and one box of items to church thrift store.
  • Trimmed back bushes, trimmed and pulled weeds on one day.  Hot, hot, hot!!!
  • Mowed on the coolest day.  As dry as it is - I may not need to mow again for a couple of weeks.
  • Picked a bouquet of flowers
  • Picked my first tomato!!!  It wasn't big - but it was a fresh tomato
  • Picked a couple more small cucumbers
  • Got chicken breast out of freezer and used the crockpot and made a batch of Mexican chicken to use for several meals
  • Made tea for the first time in 2 1/2 months.  I drank a lot this week.  Actually made 2 gallons.
  • NO shopping at all!

Meals this week:

Waffles and sausage patties (all precooked from freezer)
Tuna cheesy mac
Pickle loaf sandwich supreme and an orange creamy shake
Leftover cheesy mac and steamed veggies
Fried diced potatoes and smoked sausage topped with diced tomatoes and cheese
Smoked sausage sandwich topped with tomatoes and cheese
Mexican chicken on tostadas with cheese & sour cream

Nothing exciting here.  How was your week?  Did you get any deals?  Hope everyone's garden are doing well.
Has any one been going to the farm markets?

I pray for health and safety for each of you and your families in this coming week.  Prayers for healing for those in need.  Stay cool and hydrated and have a lovely week.

I know that a few of our readers have been moving and in the process of selling homes and I pray for relief, good quick sales, and rest for you all.  What a job!

Blessings from my humble little home to yours.

  1. Your week sounds busy, Cheryl. You'll have to be careful in this heat. I think it's dangerously hot. We didn't yard sale yesterday because of that and the forecast of rain. Your first tomato is beautiful. I hope it tastes great too.

    1. I know better with the heat, I just figured it was early enough in the day. That is what I get for thinking!!

Good idea on staying home this weekend. It is a pretty mator isn't it?

  2. O only have that one barrel ...I'm looking for more like you. Garden is so far behind yours but I hope it will do alright. Have a great day.

    1. The more barrels the better. Your garden will be fine - it is starting - so it will catch up.
      Have a good one.

  3. It has been hot here for the last few days and I have loved it. Of course I am not out working in it either. Our garden is doing great and we have picked several cherry tomatoes but no large ones yet.I am waiting as there is a beef steak almost ready to pick and I can;t wait to slice it with salt.

    1. I am not a lover of hot weather. Not real hot. 70's is perfect for me.
Yes the anticipation of that big juicy tomato with salt - OH YUM!

  4. Oh, it's so hot…. too hot to be outside for me. Be careful! Yay on a no shopping week!

    1. Same here. Nothing I need, so trying to stay home!

  5. We will be having a heat wave starting Wednesday (although to me anything over 90 degrees is too hot!) So we will be eating cool-type meals. Farmer likes Chef Salads, so I bought a 6-pack of romaine hearts, we have hard-cooked eggs, cheese, turkey breast and other veg to add to the plate. I'll add in broiled garlic bread or chips. We have left-over grilled hamburgers for lunches and also some chicken strips for quesadillas. I plan to stay inside as much as possible.

    1. 90 up is too hot to me as well.
Oh my goodness, all your food sounds yummy. Nothing like a good chef salad. It sounds like you have a good plan for meals.
      Stay cool.

  6. We are one of those who sold our home this past week and it was quite an ordeal. So happy to be moving on though. Feels great to be free of home maintenance and chores for a while. Hoping to find a new house that we can turn into a perfect home for us.

    1. I was definitely thinking of you in that statement. Laura and Laurie have recently moved as well and have gone through that big ordeal. I don't know that I could do that at this age. It is huge and I admire you all.
A new beginning is awaiting you. Much happiness in the future.

  7. We were out in the yard yesterday morning and it was already very hot. We did what we had to do and got back inside right away to the cool. That first tomato is always so exciting. We are still waiting on our first one but they will be here soon.

    1. It is hot and with the humidity it is even really hot early. Don't over do it.
The first tomato is always fun. It won't be long and you will have yours!!!!

  8. Not that hot here in the UK but pleasantly warm. Supposed to get hotter this week. So be careful in the heat. The first tomato is always exciting but for the first time this year I haven't grown any.

    1. I am happy it is not that hot for you. It really is getting miserable.
So sorry you didn't grow garden this year.

  9. Heat exhaustion isn't anything to mess with. Glad you realized and got yourself indoors.
We've been getting temps in the 80's here in Saskatchewan (which is plenty hot enough for me), but due to the heat we often get storms in the evening so it cools down nicely overnight.

    1. It seems that once we get that nasty heat - then not much rain. When it does, well, it isn't pretty.
I have had heat exhaustion before and even had a heat stroke once. I know when to stop. It happens quicker once you have had it happen before.
      I love 70's and 80's.
