We have had an exceptionally warm week. All the snow from the week before was pretty well gone by Christmas.
Today it is raining and raining some more and is supposed to be in the low 60's! It was almost 60 when I went out to feed the cats at 6:30 this morning. We will have a little cooling this week, but still all above normal.
I am glad we are getting rain instead of the snow many parts of the country are receiving. I look at this as - each day we have that is decent is one more closer to spring and one less of cold and snow!
The week was a blur. Between being busy with last minute Christmas preps, visiting, cleaning and company - it went quickly. I am really kind of glad - as it was a week that I was not looking forward to. It ended up being a lovely week of visits with family.
My week:
- I cut my hair and colored it
- Thoroughly cleaned the stove, oven and refrigerator
- Made a Dutch apple pie, brownies, and 3 kinds of cookies
- House is the cleanest it has been in ages!
- I actually got to air the house this week. 4 days of no heat and 3 nights of no heat (in Dec.)!
- Made a ton of ice
- I received a gift in the mail from an old neighbor (owns the house our friend rents next door). He sent me a lovely little bird feeder. The gift came all the way from Lebanon - the country (where he currently lives)!!!! It was so sweet of him to think of me.
- I got so many wonderful gifts. Food items, flavored teas, GC's, home crafted wood items, a warm soft throw, bath items and lotions, a sweater......... My nieces and nephews sure do love their Auntie! I love them all so much.
I received the Discover book from a nephew. It is about 1" thick and is full of coupons for discounts all over town and for all kinds of things. There is a $5 coupon for every month for Kroger - that is a lot of money saved. I got GC's for taco bell as well. Everyone knows I love Taco Bell.
- I made a lot of goodies for company on Saturday. Have lots of food leftover to take me through at least New Years. All was made with items I already had here.
- I recorded The Wizard of Oz and Coat of Many Colors this week. May spend new year's day watching movies
- I gave away the Aldi coupon I had to neighbor. I decided not to go, and didn't want the coupon to be wasted. He was glad to save $5
My weekly meals:
Stuffed shells and garlic bread (from my sister)
Burger and oven fries
Just snacked on odds and ends that was in frig
Dinner at my brother's home
Mac n cheese and ham, roll (brought home from brothers)
Small pizza from freezer
Christmas get together with many nieces and nephews - I made shredded salsa chicken, cheese and meat plate, veggies, crackers, tortillas, buns, chips, salsa, nacho cheese dip and lots of sweets
I got to meet a great/great nephew for the first time (they live out of town). He just turned one. He is the image of his daddy for sure. I decided to pass along something to him. I gifted him the rocking chair I got when I was one (64 years ago)!!! I also gave him a large teddy bear that my sister (would have been his great grandma) gave me 36 years ago. It was a hit. His daddy and mommy was thrilled to get a family heirloom.
I am going to a baby shower today. I plan on just relaxing to end the year. Slowly putting away all my lovely gifts and put away all Christmas stuff.
I hope you all had a great Christmas holiday and hope you have a lovely end to the year. May you all stay safe and healthy this week.
Blessings to you all from my humble little home to yours.
(I will be posting Tuesday as normal)
Glad you had a nice holiday.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you!!
Thank you, Happy New year to you and yours
DeleteSounds like a nice week! I'm so glad that you were able to spend time with family. What thoughtful gifts from your nieces and nephews. They do love their Auntie and know what she likes. How sweet to give your newest nephew your rocker and the bear is so sweet.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a restful week and enjoy the movies. We are Dolly fans, and I enjoyed Coat of many colors. We try to go to the Smokies and Dollywood every year at Christmas with my brother and his family.
Sending hugs and prayers.
Yep, these youngins know me well. Looking forward to getting some rest and then back at de-cluttering.
DeleteI look forward to the movie. I went to Dollywood years ago right after it opened. Sounds like a fun time for you.
Thank you!!!!
I'm glad you had a nice Christmas and happy to hear it no longer looks like a "flippin' winter wonderland" outside. lol
ReplyDeleteLOL - OK that made me laugh.
DeleteThanks - it was nice
Sounds like a wonderful holiday, Cheryl. I like those $5 Kroger coupons. I gave a couple of Taco Bell gift cards this year too, those always go over well. I hope you have a great week. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the coupon books period - but the Kroger coupons really make it a deal for me.
DeleteYou have a good week as well.
I have a rocking chair just like that, that I received for my first Christmas and I am almost 62. It must have been a popular gift back then.
ReplyDeleteIt must have been. It was time to pass mine on. Hopefully he gets lots of use from it too.
DeleteI know this must've been the hardest Christmas for you. So glad you were around your loved ones to keep your spirits up. It was a good Christmas for me too though I was not expecting it. My sweet middle daughter knew I've wanted magnifying glasses for crotchet projects and such, but ended up buying these crazy space helmet looking ones that only Bill would've thought were fantastic. We laughed till we all were crying! Best.Gift.Ever! Happiest of New Years.
ReplyDeleteIt is funny - you just know it will be the worst possible and then someone does something like that. Glad to hear it gave you both a great laugh. I had some of those times as well.
DeleteHappy New Year my friend.
First time responding. I love reading your blog! We watched A Coat of Many Colors and the sequel. I think it was called A Christmas Miracle. It was a beautiful movie. Deb
ReplyDeleteI am glad to have you here. I hope you respond more in the future. Thank you for reading along - I sure appreciate it.
DeleteI didn't realize there was 2 parts! I see you comment below and will look for that one as well. Thank you!!!
Have a great week.
The sequel is Circle of Love. Deb
ReplyDeleteThe sequel is Circle of Love not the Christmas Miracle. Deb
ReplyDeleteCheryl, I am so happy your holidays were beautiful. I was worried about you. I think the best present in the world would be able to cuddle a baby. :) Your great nephew sounds like a little cherub. :)
ReplyDeleteI love that coupon book. I think that is such a perfect gift for you. I am happy you received something so sweet. I always think you need to give yourself little treats. I know now you won't feel so guilty.
It really was nice. Oh, nothing like a baby. Love baby hugs and cuddles and kisses!
DeleteLove the coupons and GC's - they know me! It is nice to be able to get a treat or something in a frugal way!!!!
The first is always the toughest, and the first year is full of them. Glad you had lots of company and circled with love.
ReplyDeleteAll the best in 2020!
Yes mam. Lot's of firsts. The family made things a bit easier. They are so good to me.
DeleteThank you and to you too!
It sounded like a lovely holiday. I was glad to see you are taking care of yourself also, but planning movie times and just "being." Those times of rest and recovery (mental & emotional & spiritual) are as important as physical rest.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year
I did have a lovely time with family. You are so correct that it is important to take care of ourselves.
DeleteHappy New Year to you as well.
That sure is a nice bear! I think your nephew hit the jackpot. It is so good to have family you are close to.
ReplyDeleteThat bear is squishy! It actually got me through some sad moments.
DeleteLove my family!
