Pantry, Prep, and Planning

Hi there everyone.
I am sorry I have been AWOL this week.  The holiday really threw me off - which is kind of funny - since I don't go to a job daily!

I have been working on straightening and inventorying the pantry upstairs, the prep area downstairs, and making plans for the future.
Some how my pantry always gets messy.  Those dang Gremlins must get in there and party or something!

My prep stash in the basement, drastically needed to be worked on as well.  I am notorious for getting items, and then taking them downstairs and just setting them down.  Well, this week they are finding homes!

I am also going through my home canned goods and making an inventory - so I know just what and how much to can this year.
It seems this is just a never ending project for me.
I am truly hoping to have much canning, and a ton more prep done before fall.  I know a lot of people think I am nuts and that I am a conspiracy theory person - and maybe I am.

I really feel that "IT" will hit the fan big time this fall.  I believe that either right before or right after election time, we will be under marshal law.  No matter which way the election goes, it is going to tick off a LOT of people, and I think there will be riots and looting, like we have never seen.  I think it will be widespread as well.
We are going to have to fend for ourselves.  As most people know, when a crisis arises the stores only have a limited 3 or 4 day supply of groceries - and it won't last that long if there is looting.

Brexit made the financial institutions and stock market  fluctuate drastically, and you can bet the elections will do it as well.  Shoot, all it takes is for someone in D.C. to fart sideways and the stock market drops!!!!
We are so much closer to having a country in MAJOR crisis, than I think most people will dare to admit.

Take time to inventory what you have, assess what you need, get it, and store it.  You WILL need it sooner than you think.
Can and freeze everything you can get your hands on this summer and fall.  It may save your family!
BE PREPARED FOR THE WORST and pray for the best.

  1. I certainly see it the same way, there are several "sides" all working against each other and no compromising or trying to get along.
    Really scary times!

    1. Yes, it seems that all involved are working against each other AND us.

  2. I have felt the same way this year. Need to keep putting things by for tough times ahead. I want to be able to stay at home and have all that we need right here to get by. No fighting the lines or possible looting to try and get stuff that is needed. Planning even on a limited budget to do the best I can to be prepared. That's what we can do.
    Take care.

    1. Crystal my thoughts exactly. I want to be able to survive and live well and not leave my house at all if possible.

Even on a limited budget, there is much you can do. If you get just a little each week, it will help.

  3. I completely agree. Tough times are ahead for sure. Planning now is essential.

    1. Glad to see I am not the only who feels this way. Sometimes I feel like I am being paranoid - but I think there is good reason to be.

  4. Cheryl, Good thoughts. How much water do you have put aside and how do you store it? I had some and the plastic split and then of course I had a mess.

    1. Laurie - not nearly enough!!!!! I have regular individual bottles of water - which I hate buying. I have several heavy 5 gallon containers that we got at some prep store filled. I also have milk jugs and pop bottles filled. I probably have 60 gallons - but almost all would have to be boiled before ingested (because of containers).

That is a huge item that G keeps on me about. I really need a good plan for water.

  5. I didn't even get halfway through your post and went and got both pantries sorted and straightened out. I didn't realize we were that far down on certain items. Haven't done that in about a year. Have been working on getting things together little by little. Thank you.

  6. I am so far behind on any kind of prepping. I am trying. I will get there. I feel the same way about the outcomes come elections time. I know it is off the frugal topic but it all sickens me.

  7. I agree with everyone, I forget how valuable a stocked up water supply is...we just can't imagine we'll need it and it gets forgotten...but I will revisit this with The Good Man and see what he says...he is very careful about taking care of everything else and encourages pantry building...we went to Aldi's and it seemed the prices weren't too much more than usual even with the credit cards they now accept...but water -- definitely need to plan that one better!

  8. We are woefully deficient on our stocked up water supply here. I really need to get on that quickly. I'm thinking I may just start buying a case of water each time I do the grocery shopping and also buy a couple when I see good sales.

I'm worried about the state of our country right now. I live in a tiny farming community and I know that neighbors here will watch out for each other. I also know that my family will all come together and take care of one another. I do worry with 2 of my sons being police officers though...I think they are going to be in for a lot of extra hours on the job and be in even more danger...that makes this momma's heart break.
