WHAT A DAY

Hello everyone.  I am very late in posting today.  It has been quite a stressful day.
I will get back to a regular post on Thursday.

Early this morning G looked out the back window and said there were dogs in the yard.  Our back yard is totally fenced and I knew I had the gate closed.  About that time he said they are after the cats!!

I ran out and there were 2 pit bulls in the yard and I yelled and they climbed over the fence to the alley.   Momma and Fluffy were 20' up a tree.
I was having a small fit.  Got out the tallest ladder we have - not even close enough to get them.  I leaned it against the tree to give them something to come down as they were on the lowest braches.
Just as Momma started down  - back came the d**m dogs in the yard.  Out I went and ran them off again.

                                                                     Momma  (not today)

I called animal control and was told they didn't have time!  WHAT???  They asked if they were vicious and I said they were trying to attack pets and they were climbing fences.  Yes, she said, they are vicious.  No sh**!!!  I was furious if you can't tell!!!!!!
I went back out and the dogs were threatening me at the fence, growling and barking and acting forceful.

I got my neighbor who has a bigger ladder to come and help me - kitties down and terrified and hiding.  Dogs still roaming neighborhood.
I got in the car and drove around to see where they might be.  Ran into others doing the same.  They were menacing the entire neighborhood.
One lady and I saved a young boy about 10, from getting mauled.  The dogs came out of no where and went after him - of course he ran screaming.  We started honking and they ran away, and I got the kid to tell me where he lived - a couple doors down - I followed him and got him home.  He was so terrified.

We were driving around tell anyone who was outside to be careful and keep pets in.
Finally 2 people DID get bit and THEN the police got involved, which got animal controls' butts out here.

Police were patrolling and I talked to one officer and explained everything.  I told them where they last were seen.  I have no idea what happened - but they were on it and hunting them down.

I am a HUGE animal lover, but had they come back in my yard, I would have shot them.  I would probably be in trouble as it is illegal to shoot a gun in the city limits.  I would hope that feeling endangered or threatened would make a difference.

I think they may have belonged to the people behind in the alley.  They have had 6 or 7 pit bulls living IN their 2 bedroom house with them and 4 kids for ages.  I noticed today - they are gone.  No curtains at windows and the house is empty.  I think they left them.  I told the police that as well.  He said other neighbors said the same thing.

I sure hope that they got them.  I hope no one else or no one's pets got hurt or worse.  That was so stinking scary.
Momma finally came out from under the deck and back in the greenhouse later today, Fluff is still hiding.  Poor babies.

All this was being done in the rain and chilly temps.  I was wet to the bone and ache from head to toe and feel so tired.  Thank God we are all ok.  I will be 'packing' for a while when I go out to the backyard - JUST IN CASE!

So apologies all for no regular post.  Back later this week.
Say a little prayer that they got the dogs!!!  Please and thanks.

  1. Oh my gosh, Cheryl--that's terrible! Thank goodness your kitties and that neighborhood boy are okay. You are really brave to have faced down those dogs; I'm so glad you weren't hurt.
What on earth is the matter with people? Too many dogs, not training them properly, and then abandoning them altogether. I sure hope the police find them and charge them, as well as catching those dogs before some pet or child gets injured.
Take good care of yourself--hope you don't get sick from all the stress/cold.

    1. I have never understood people abandoning animals. So cruel.
Everyone is very fortunate here - I hope it al ended well before someone was seriously hurt or killed.
I am achy today, but I will be fine. Kitties are snug in the greenhouse with breakfast this morning.

  2. Oh my goodness, I am so sorry. I know you were so scared. Some pits are great pits and others are just dangerous. Shame on their previous owners for having them and especially for leaving them.
I’m sure law enforcement will stay on top of it until the pits are captured and hopefully they already are.

    1. Thanks. I agree there are any pits that are wonderful dogs and pets. They can be sweet if trained properly.
These folks never trained, just yelled. If the dogs were hungry - that would explain their manners as well.

  3. Well that was a scary day. I am glad that you and the cats are ok. How horrible to leave dogs behind. They should be arrested if the did. Who knows when the dogs ate last. Hopefully the police and animal control can figure it all out and the person responsible will be caught. Try to relax and have a good night.

  4. Oh wow, that is scary. What an awful day, but I'm glad that you and your kitties are ok! Do hope that they are able to find the dogs, and I hope that the people who were bit are ok. Thank you for helping that scared little boy get home. Get some rest, and stay warm tonight. Hope you don't have any lasting effects from your day.

  5. Oh my goodness, how scary for everyone involved! I can't believe animal control would not come out until people got bit and the police got involved. And if those people behind you in the alley abandoned those dogs, they should be brought up on charges! It does not sound like they were the kind of people who treated their dogs well to begin with.

    1. I hope they catch up with the people. No they were never kind people. Always yelling and screaming at the dogs AND kids. Glad to see them gone! They have lived there for too long.
      Scary stuff.

  6. so scary! To think they wouldn't come out till someone got bit and they were forced into it. Let us know if you hear anymore. Be safe in the meantime!

    1. Thanks Vickie. I would like to try to find out something - not sure if we will.
yeah, when someone says 'vicious' you'd think they would take it seriously.

  7. How scary. I had a bad experience with a large dog when I was younger and still get scared when I see one roaming around. I'm glad you were there to help the young boy get home safely!

    1. Thanks. I am glad I was in the right place at the right time. Poor kid was terrified and crying.
I have never had a bad experience until yesterday - that was enough for me.

  8. Oh my gosh! What an ordeal...I hope they caught them. Why do people take animals in then abandon them? I just never understood it at all!

    1. I can not understand that either. It is so wrong. They are family at my house, not possessions. So mean and cruel and heartless.

I hope they caught them as well - I really hope they didn't have to destroy.

  9. Oh my gosh, Cheryl, how frightening. I'm so sorry you and your cats had to go through that. I'm so glad you were there for the 10 year old boy as that could have been much worse than it was. It was a pitbull that bit me on Christmas. I just don't trust them, they can be so vicious. Bless your heart.

    1. Things could surely have been worse. We are blessed.
I tried to get the little boy to get in the car to go home and he wouldn't (SMART CHILD) - so I said I will follow till you get there.
      His parents taught him well!!!

I keep looking outside today - just a little paranoid! LOL
