Bacon. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
G and I both love bacon. It is not something that we fix often, because it could easily become an addiction!!!!! LOL
I stocked up on bacon recently when I found a great sale. It is in the freezer and will be used sporadically to calm our desires!
OK, I know I may be slow - but I just recently discovered the joys and wonders of cooking bacon in the oven.
No more grease stained clothes. No more splatter filled stove. No more messes. No more pans to clean. It is a wonder for sure!!!!!!
Oven baked bacon. This is a full size dinner plate - notice the size of the bacon.
The other things I love is that their is little shrinkage and NO curling at all with the bacon. Just nice straight lovely bacon.
Heat the oven to 400*. Line a baking pan that has a lip (sides) with heavy duty aluminum foil. Make sure that foil goes up each side of the pan so as to contain the bacon grease and have no mess.
Lay you bacon out on foil - it's ok of sides touch. Bake 10 - 20 minutes depending on the crispness you desire. The above picture is crispy bacon and that was 20 minutes.
When done - remove bacon and place on paper towels to drain. I did 2 pans full, using the same foil and leaving grease till done.
You can then make a small lip or trough on one corner of the foil - to simply pour that beautiful bacon grease in your grease jar! There are so many uses for bacon grease in our world!!!!
Remove the foil and toss - no need to even clean the pan (if you didn't puncture foil).
Easy-peasy - perfect bacon!!
I will never fry bacon again!!!!!! This was life changing for me - LOL. It takes so little to amaze me an make me happy!
Have you ever tried this method?
I think you will be surprised.
You've truly made me crave a BLT. We do make our bacon in the oven and it really is handy when we have the whole clan together for the holidays. Off to buy some bacon.
ReplyDeleteLOL - we had those the other night. One of my favorites.
DeleteENJOY!
I have cooked bacon in the oven before but it never came out right, either too well done or not done enough :) I think I'll try it again using your directions. We love bacon too!
ReplyDeleteMary I was pleasantly surprised. It was perfect - each time I have tried. Hopefully it works for you too.
DeleteI think it should be one of the basic food groups!!!! LOL
I have been doing it like this forever. My son cooks it on the stove top sometimes when he wants one or 2 pieces.
ReplyDeleteDang I guess I have lived under a rock forever!!!!!
DeleteI am always the last to know! LOL
Try sprinkling some brown sugar on it while you cook the bacon. So good!.
DeleteI learned this method from Ina Garten...then my husband took it up a notch and did it on a cookie sheet on the grill at 400 for 15 min. Keeps the house cool and we can enjoy bacon. LOVE bacon. Barb in PA
ReplyDeletegreat idea using the grill! Thanks for that idea.
DeleteYou and me both are slow -I just started cooking bacon in the oven about 4 months ago. wonderful isn't it. I cook a whole bunch -like 2 or 3 packages and freeze it so I just have to zap in the microwave for about a minute. I'm lazy in the mornings!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!!! Glad I wasn't the only slowpoke in the bunch!
DeleteThat's what I'm talking about - bacon any time that way!
I've done the oven bacon too, it's a great no mess way to make it for sure. :)
ReplyDeleteIt sure is. I love bacon but always hated frying - such a mess. Now It's so easy.
DeleteMy preferred way too! I usually get grease in my pan though... but I put it through the dishwasher... easy peasy!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it. I don't have a dishwasher - so I prefer the foil for easy clean-up.
DeleteYour joy of bacon is adorable!
ReplyDeleteI usually cook mine in the microwave on paper-towel-lined chinette plates. No mess, but then no glorious fat to cook in, either. I think I will have to try your oven method and get me a nice little jar of bacon grease...
I have done the microwave thing before. I wasn't real satisfied with the outcome. Yes, and no lovey grease.
DeleteI keep mine is a mason jar in the frig. It is so good for so many things.
Mmm bacon. Insert picture of large woman drooling!!!!!!!!!! No not a pretty picture at all.
ReplyDeleteWe tend to microwave our bacon and then put in the hooded barbeque to crisp up, so we sort of bake it.
I love cricpy chips of bacon in potato salad. I think this would just about be my favourite dish with bacon as an ingredient.
Hello Jane - long time no see!
DeleteHmmmm bacon on the grill - you are the second one to say that. I would never thought of that as well.
Oh my goodness, that sounds so good.
I like egg salad with crispy bacon pieces in it.
Cheryl, there are lots of people catching on this method of cooking bacon. I generally cook one whole package at a time, let it cool a little and than put it in a zip lock bag with a piece of cardboard so that the bacon doesn't end up in unwanted little pieces. I can't think of much of anything that I can think of that I don't like bacon in or on. Also, try sprinkling it with brown sugar for a candied bacon, or lots of pepper for peppered bacon. Both are tasty.
ReplyDeleteOh my, yum! Those both sound so good.
DeleteI just love bacon - I can't imagine anything tasting bad that has it in there!
Great idea on packing it up after cooking!
I haven't tried cooking bacon in the oven. Thanks for the tips! We love bacon!
ReplyDeleteGive it a try. Hope you enjoy the easiness of it.
Deletehi Cheryl, I do my bacon on the broiler pan, have to clean the pan but the fat drips off better and I don't usually have to blot it after...
