Weekly Wrap-Up 6/30

My goodness, here we are with another month behind us.  It is just crazy how time flies.
It sure was a rainy month - then WE GOT SUMMER!  The heat is on for sure.  It has been around 90* every day and no rain this week!  I have actually had to start watering my plants - first time since they were planted.
Literally 100's of lilies are in bloom!!!!!!!
It appears that the 90's will be here all week.  I can handle the heat OK - but it is extremely humid.  That is what affects most of us.  The AC has gotten use this week.  Drinking lots of water and keeping lots of fresh water out for all the birds, squirrels, bees and kitties.
The birds have been taking lots of baths in the bird bath.  That must feel so good to them - they are fun to watch.  The hummies have been drinking a lot early and late in the day - they pretty much aren't seen in the heat of the day.

My weekly activities:
  • I ran to the feed store on Tuesday.  While out I stopped at the BMV to get my new registration for the Blazer.  I was in and out in 8 minutes.  I have never had such a short visit.  They told me that I would receive sticker in the mail in about 10 days, and I got it Saturday!  Pretty good service.
  • Made new hummingbird nectar
  • Picked my first cucumber!!!!  It was hiding at the bottom of the plant

  • Line dried laundry
  • Got one closet all cleaned and organized
  • Mowed and weeded - that never ends!
  • Watering plants with rain water
  • Washed windows, doors and mirrors.  Also took apart and thoroughly cleaned all the door knobs in the house - they are all crystal knobs
  • Scoured the bottoms of all stainless steel pans and a couple copper bottom pans to remove any discoloration - nice and shiny now.
  • Went to the library and the farm market on Saturday - both are in the park.  I bought one large green tomato to fry up this week!
  • Stopped at a yard sale one block from the park (they all got rained out when they had neighborhood sale).  I bought a Gooseberry Patch cookbook for .50 and a cup of lemonade from a sweet little girl for .50!  Pretty cheap entertainment for a morning!!!!!!

Meals this week:
Mini burgers
Homemade beef-a-roni
Grilled cheese and a fruit smoothie
Stuffed pepper skillet
Small pasta/veggie salad
Chicken tender/slaw roll-up and a fruit smoothie
Sloppy Joes

It has just been so humid this week and that seems to suck away all my energy.  My TMJ (jaw alignment) has acted up this week as well.  This happens a couple times a year and just has to right itself.  It is aggravating and uncomfortable.  Today it is actually starting to ease a bit!!!  YAY!

What was your week like?  Did you get any good deals?  Garden produce?
Watch the sales this week - as here in the U.S. there should be a lot of good deals with Independence Day coming up.  I am sure there will be lots of cook-outs and celebrations.

I pray that everyone has a safe and healthy week.  Prayers for healing for all in need.  Stay cool and hydrated my friends.
Blessings from my humble little home to yours.

  2. Nice cucumber and your lilies are beautiful, glad you have so many of them. The humidity comes and goes every day here, which is odd. It's usually humid 24/7 at this time of year. I do love the cooler mornings. :)

  3. Hi Cheryl,
It sounds like you had a good and productive week. Our local garden show had a segment about hummingbirds this week. I learned that hummingbirds especially like blue and red flowers and many of the same flowers that attract bees and butterflies. I think you would enjoy the show, it is called "Volunteer Gardener" and is on WKNO. You may be able to watch past episodes online.
I am so glad that you get hummingbirds visiting your home. :)

    1. Thanks for the info. I always have red, purple and pink flowers around as well. They seem to love my impatiens and also visit my phlox when it blooms.
I sure do love watching them flit about.

  4. You had a really good week, Cheryl. I don't have any garden/veggies this year. I did put up a hummingbird feeder but must have missed the season to 'capture' their attention. I was a week late after I saw them visiting my flowers and then they were gone.

It is 85% humidity here today. UGH....awful. I hope you have a really great Sunday- xo Diana

    1. I wasn't going to grow any garden this year - but knew my husband would want me to have something in the yard. So in his memory I planted a few things. He knew how much I always enjoyed the garden.

Sorry you missed the hummers. I always have them each year - I put my feeders out early just in case.
      Stay cool as possible!!!!!!

  5. Sounds like a wonderful week despite the heat and humidity. We tend to be arid here in Saskatchewan but I've noticed there has been some humidity here. We've had a number of thunderstorms but no damage here in my city.

    1. Those little gold finches sure are pretty as well. I have quite a variety of birds in the yard. It sure is enjoyable.
Yum on fresh strawberries - don't think I have ever had currents.
Fresh lettuce is always so good. ENJOY

  7. It is always exciting to pick something that you grew! I planted radish seeds this year for the first time not knowing if I would succeed or not but guess what? I got radishes! Despite the heat this is my favorite time of the year when everything is growing and there is so much going on in our yard. Have a great week!I also just started my own blog Nana's Little Home at nanaslittlehome@blogspot.com

    1. YAY! Radishes are so yummy. I love eating them with just some salt and in salads. I have heard of people pickling them!
I will definitely stop by and read your blog. Thanks for letting us know.
      Have a good week.

  8. Thank you, Cheryl, for keeping the critters watered. I wish all people would be so thoughtful. You and I are on the same wavelength with fried green tomatoes! We have one and I plan to pick some more tomorrow for that very dish - yummo! Gotta admit I was a wee bit envious of your 50 cent find of a Gooseberry Patch cookbook ;). They're on my list now for thrift store finds. I bet you sleep great at night with all the hard work you've been putting in. Doncha just love a clean, organized closet?! It must be dopamine-inducing or something cuz it makes me feel really good. Your lillies are amazing. Must be all that rain you've had. Well, have a blessed week and take care of you.

    1. All God's creatures are special and we need to tend to them. They give so much joy.
I won't eat a green tomato I have grown until I get a red one!! LOL. That is why I bought one.
Gooseberry Patch are my all time favorites. Just so much neat information.

I wish I could sleep well at night - but good sleep still evades me. One day.
It does look so nice when opening the closet door.

All the other flowers are now starting to bloom as well. I just love pretty flowers. So do the birdies!
      Have a good one.

  9. Another holiday. Hopefully it will bring you some happy memories along with the loss you feel. You sound like a friend who was a widow at a young age. I try to live as Dana would have wanted me to in honor of his memory.

    1. That is basically what I try to do. I sure never expected to be a widow at this age - seems too young to me (of course any age would I guess).
I just know Glen would want me to go on and do the 'normal'. It is so very hard, but it something that must be tried!

  10. I agree about the humidity. :) I can be so comfortable in heat but humidity I am down for the count, lol.

I hope you are feeling better. I hope you have a beautiful 4th of July.

  11. Nice cucumber. I can't believe how fast you were in DMV. We are always several hours at ours. I have been giving away lots of kale. Peas are growing like crazy. I pick a huge bowl full every day. It was a crazy month. We were finishing up construction on the house and my youngest graduated high school. There are a lot of activities that go along with that. The garden needs my attention now that all of that is over. I hope your jaw is doing better.
