Weekly Wrap-Up 12/8

Good morning all.  Here we are one week into December.  My goodness the time is just flying by.  We will be celebrating a brand new year in just a few short weeks.

This past week has brought us some sunshine, which has greatly been appreciated.  We actually got a few days of sun and that doesn't happen much in December.  It is commonly known in our area to be the cloudiest and darkest month of the year.  We even had decent temps.  Momma and Fluffy (outside cats) sure have enjoyed the nicer temps and the sunshine!  They love playing and rolling around and sunning!  Things, they are going to be a changing!  Rain comes in tomorrow, and then the bottom drops out for a few days and we get a huge blast of cold!  Yep, it is winter in Indiana!

My week:
  • Made a batch of squirrel treats - they sure do love them
  • Cleaned and organized the freezer in the frig
  • On Monday I froze the leftover turkey breast
  • Made soup (turkey/rice/veggie) and froze much of it as well
  • Made a big feed store run
  • Cleaned and polished the kitchen cabinets
  • Ordered the jerky and summer sausage that is given as gifts every year.  Ordered on Tuesday from Ohio and received it on Friday
  • Did a little bit more small item gift shopping
  • Got my printer working again
  • NO grocery store this week
  • Made some more jar recipes up for gifting
  • Dealing with Medicare/Soc. Security this week trying to get things set up.  I have been in tears a lot, nothing was working out.  Finally figured out the problem and now have to go into the office instead of doing this on-line (that will be a post of it's own!)  NOTHING is as easy as they claim!!!
  • In trying to do above with Medic./Soc. Sec. I went through tons more paper work and tried to organize it
  • I did buy the trim paint for the inside of house.  I haven't started painting yet - but I have it!
  • Went to a family get together and dinner at my nieces.  Nice afternoon/evening and got to see another niece from out of state (rode with my brother/sil).  Got to enjoy seeing some pretty Christmas lights on the way home - haven't done that in years.
  • Doing all the regular stuff

Meals this past week:
Turkey/nacho cheese open face sandwich melt
Turkey/rice/veggie soup (homemade)
Chopped beef patty and fried potatoes
2 mini cheese burgers on leftover dinner rolls and some chips
Chicken bites and fresh cauliflower/carrots/olives with ranch dressing
Sausage/egg sandwich and a milk shake
Dinner at my nieces - lasagna and salad

I know I accomplished things this week, but it doesn't feel like it.  So much of the week was just downright frustrating!  Oh well.  Live and learn.
I hope this coming week is productive.  I will try to get this Medicare thing done and hope to get what shopping I need to do - finished.  I need to get the cards done as well - that didn't happen last week!

How was your week?  Are you ready for Christmas?  Any great frugal deals this week?

I pray for you and yours and hope you all stay well and safe.  Be happy, be healthy, and be frugal my friends.  God bless you all.
Blessings from my humble little home to yours.

  2. I hear you about the paperwork signing up for Medicare, etc.
I can start Medicare in February. I went to our office of the aging and they are very helpful, if you have something similar. I have chosen and already signed up for Medigap plan. Have SS disability arranged, have to go next week to chose prescription plan (they asked that I wait until open enrollment was done, which ended last week). Now just have to verify amounts of pension and when to start. The Human Resources department of my employment of 42 years is a mess in getting things done. It will be a relieve when all is in place and set up! Hopefully less papers to keep and file! Good luck on your end.

    1. Yes, it can be a mess for sure. It will be a relief for sure.
Good for you getting a head start.

  3. Well, they shouldn't make medicare/ss so difficult after all we are getting older. They should take that into consideration when we have to sign up for this ##@@. This week I have gotten all the cards done and mailed and we got our out of town pkgs mailed too. Stay warm!

    1. Amen sister. I mean, we did pay into forever, it should just be a matter of showing proof of age and poof! It is crazy - so many people have no transportation and many elderly don't have computers. You sure can't get someone on the phone!
Good for you. I need to get my mailings done this week.
      Have a good one!

  4. Printers are frustrating to me sometimes Cheryl! So glad you stuck with it and got it fixed.
Sounds like you had a nice dinner with your family. Have a great day.
In case you didn't read my reply to your comment, go to estatesales.net and put in your location. You will find some great estate sales I hope.

  6. Sorry that you're having issues with Medicare/SS. Those who work in the bureaucracy and deal with such things daily forget what it's like for those who don't. Good luck this week!

    1. You are sure right about that. I hope they get better responses when they reach the age of retirement.
      Thank you.

  7. I'm so sorry you had the difficulties with the Medicare. I dread evening thinking about going through that in a few years.
I got my church cards done last night to deliver to our church mailboxes today. I'll work on the ones I need to mail this week in the evenings.
We'll put the tree up a little later this evening. With 3 little ones around I only got out the basics for decorating. We'll put up the tree and the Little People Nativity and the stockings and some greenery in the kitchen. The tree is the big thing anyway. I'll be wrapping after next weekend, after we babysit them overnight. Little Sis is just too inquisitive. I'll try to bake at least one kind of cookie this week also. We don't eat too many sweets anymore. We prefer savory snacks instead.

    1. I understand. Silly me, put off stuff till the last minute.
Have fun decorating. I did very little. Kids will love whatever you do. I got my holiday recipes out! That is a start. I don't need anything sweet, but for gifts.

  8. Cheryl, thank you for your kind comment on my blog post. It is truly a club no one ever wants to join as you said. It is so hard to imagine no longer being half of a whole.

    1. My heart aches for you. Time and faith are the only healers we have. The ache will never leave - it just gets easier to handle each day. Again, if you ever need someone to talk to, let me know and I will get you my e-mail.
Sending you hugs of comfort and love.
      God bless

  10. Finishing cards this week and two boxes to the post office then just a few things to wrap or put into gift bags.

Can't seem to get going this Monday morning. Bunco this week with a fun group of ladies and Couples class at our Church tonight. We will be taking of leading the group starting in January so I really need to get myself in gear and get my home office organized so I'm not still dealing with that in January. Just the usual cleaning, dishes, cooking and laundry other than that this week. Take care!

    1. Good for you on the cards.
I have never played Bunco - sounds like a good time. Don't over do it on getting the house ready for January with the holidays in there.
      Have fun.

  11. My heart goes out to you having to deal with Medicare. I had to help elderly loved ones with this nightmare. The department of Aging is a good resource. I am not trying to age you. :) I am only in my 40's and have used their resources navigating all the confusing government things.

If you go to the offices later in the week mid-afternoon it is a lot quieter and more helpful. Look for a smaller office. I hope that helps.

I have been dealing with that branch since I was sixteen!

    1. It is a pain. I will be going this Thursday to a sub branch that has gotten extremely good revues for help and quickness. Here's hoping!
Last week was first week of month after a holiday week, so that was a no go in my mind.
Was going to go today, but it is just frigid outside and this will be a bit of drive - so just staying safe and snug today.

  12. I'm sorry about the problems with Medicare. I hope you are able to get it all straightened out. I don't know why they have to make everything so complicated.
Glad you were able to enjoy a family get together.
We just got back from our yearly trip to the Smokies with my brother and his family. It is good being together.
Hope you have a good week.

    1. Thanks. Exactly - you would think it would be easier since we all have to do it at some point.
Glad you got to take your trip. Sounds lovely. I love that families take trips together.
      Have a good one!

  13. I have that the Social Security was so frustrating for you. Believe it or not, both of ours was so, so easy. However, I have a friend that is having a horrible time with SS over something else...she has been down there 4 times...gets someone different every time and each one tells her they need something different.
