Weekly Wrap Up 12/12

Good day to all.  Hope this finds you all well and safe.
All is good here.  We sure had quite the roller coaster of weather this week.  Really something for December!
We had cold and warmth - we had snow flurries and thunderstorms - we had lots of wind and tornado watches.  We have had quit the mis-mash of weather.  Friday night was quite scary with the storms.  My area really lucked out, as some areas had a lot of damage.  Sending prayers for all those affected in states south of here for loss of homes and in some instances life.  Such terrible tragedy.
It looks like much of this coming week will be warmer than normal as well.  Weird weather!
Not my picture - but pretty!

My week:
  • Used all leftovers this week - nothing wasted
  • My mobile home phones quit working over the last weekend (they are a 2 pc. set) and I figured I needed new batteries.  That was going to cost about $50 for both.  I did much checking and trouble shooting and finally found a loose connection on one phone (I figured cat must have pulled it loose).  Trouble shooting can sure save money.  It was worth looking around and crawling around under things a little.  All working fine now, and no money spent.
  • I ordered the jerky and summer sausage I get every year for gifts at the first of week.  I almost forgot.  I sure hope it all comes in time!
  • I got my cards all mailed
  • I have started getting a few cards this week.  I got a gift in the mail from a friend!  I opened it and lo and behold there were 3 wrapped packages in it.   I opened 2 - a cute Christmas pair of socks and a pretty angel.  Trying to resist opening #3 until closer to Christmas!!  I am such a kid at heart!!!
  • Did a little sewing
  • I do believe I have finished my shopping!  I still need one Aldi GC - but can run there any time.
  • I got to see sis at rehab this week.  She is improving slowly!  She is not happy with progress, but we all know she is doing good.  She just wants to be home - bless her heart.  I feel so sorry for her.
  • While out shopping and visiting I stopped at Fresh Thyme Market.  I hadn't been there in ages.  I got 2 - 3lb. bags of navel oranges for less than $6 total.  I also got some OTC supplements I needed
  • I did some bulk cooking.  I made a bunch of fried chicken and cooked up extra pork chops this week.  Extras (cooked) were frozen for easy future meals.
  • All my usual things - using what I have, cooking from scratch, cleaning, laundry, etc.
  • Actually aired the house on 2 different days this week!  Crazy in December.
  • Got a call from a friend at Kroger that they had stocked cat food shelves!  I ran up there and got quite a bit of canned food for kitties.  While there I looked around and found bread on clearance.  And they had ham on sale.  I got a shank ham for .79/lb.  Almost 7 1/2 lbs. for under $6!  I didn't need it for now - but couldn't pass up the price for future meals.
Blueberry bagels for .99, swirl rye bread was $1.  I only eat rye on Ruebens - so it will be frozen and will last for months!  Texas toast for .79 - I am thinking French toast!

Meals this past week:
Tostadas (used up leftovers)
Seasoned rice with peas and chicken strips
Fried cabbage, mashed potatoes and a smoked sausage
Leftover cabbage and potatoes with pork chops (2 little ones)
Quesadilla - made with leftover rice and beans
Fried chicken and salad - 2X
Tostadas - still using my garden tomatoes!!!  I have just a few more tiny ones left.

How was your week?  Shopping done?  Gifts wrapped?  Decorating done?   Deals found?
I hope this finds you all well and safe and I look forward to hear what is going on your lives!  Belinda, I hope you are safe and sound - I know you live in TN.
Blessings from my humble little home to you and yours.

Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known to God.  And the peace of God, which passes all understanding will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7

  1. I hear you on the weather! I am also heartbroken for all those effected by those terrible tornados.

We are mudding along here. Bit by bit it is getting done and what doesn't get done is okay. We hit the discount grocery yesterday and got some great deals. Probiotic yogurt smoothies in 4 packs were 50 cents each and we were out of our previous deal supply. Sara Lee Apple Pies were 3/$5 so we tucked some away in the freezer for later. Got some meat deals and Pepperidge Farm breads at $1 a package. I have never seen so much bread there which says to me that it is being bypassed at the regular grocery because people need their money for things other than $4 plus packs of bread. We also picked up several free items with iBotta during the week and cashed out $31 back into the grocery budget.

    Have a good week!

    1. Wow what deals you got. I wish we had a place like that around here.
      Their loss - your gain!

  2. That’s great that you were able to fix your phone, Cheryl. The weather was extreme this week, so much devastation unfortunately. I’m glad you were able to stock up on cat food.

  3. I'm happy to hear you were spared the worst of the storm. Very scary times and the clean up will take months. For those who have lost a loved one, it's even more sad.

Also glad to hear your sister is improving and you were able to visit. I'm sure that was a welcome break for her to have company.

    1. Yes, this will take a long time to recover from for many places.
She loved the company and it did me good as well.

  4. Very pretty yard Christmas tree and snow :) 🎄🎄🎄
Unbelievably wacky weather you've had! Tragic about the southern states...praying for them all, too.
Good deals you got! Navel oranges and the ham as well as the breads. How nice to get a head's up about the kitty food being stocked. They must know you have lots of fur babies to care for.
Mmm, fried chicken sounds good - be right over ;p.
Pretend we all sent you Christmas cards and gifts ;) we would if we had your address - but, I appreciate your protecting your privacy/safety.
    Merry Christmas~

    1. I thought that was a pretty tree as well.
I have become friends with a gal at Kroger over the years and she knows me well!!!
Aahhhhh that is so sweet. I just appreciate and love the friendship I get from you all. That is a great gift!!!

  5. Grateful you were spared the worst of the stormy weather, Cheryl, and it sounds like another busy week for you! Your verse today is a good match to a daily devotional: "In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength." Isaiah 30:15. My mother-in-law emails a devotional every day, even though she's now on hospice.

We finally got enough decluttering done to put up our tree today. I should explain that we thought we'd be moving no later than Thanksgiving, but that's been delayed by several months. Thus... clutter. Our oldest son will come today to help decorate.

This week I finished my holiday shopping (I hope!) and we ate cheaply at home. My cards and out-of-state packages went out last week. Last weekend my husband drove 7+ hours each way to surprise his mom for her birthday and delivered our gifts there.

The most important thing this week was a meeting with Pension Trust, filling out and signing all of the necessary paperwork. Christmas Day will be his 1st day officially retired!

    Prayers for all. --Elise

    2. Elise - the best gift ever!!! What a way to start the Christas holidays! Congrats to you both. Many years of retirement bliss!
Lovely scripture. How sweet of her. What a caring son to go that far for her birthday.
Sounds like you are about ready!

  6. Troubleshooting is always the first best step. Glad you were able to figure out the problem with your phone. I am heartbroken for the people in KY. We had strong winds here, but I'm struggling more with what the south is facing. We had two lots in KY, along Lake Barkley -- one closer to Eddyville and one near Lake Barkley State Park, between Canton and Cadiz. Although the Eddyville lot has been sold, I know and love that area, and have spent many weekends (and a couple of weeks) in the area. These areas are east of the hardest hit areas, and I know Land Between the Lakes and Eddyville sustained some significant damage. Because our Cadiz lot is vacant, and most lots nearby are also vacant, I don't know how much tree damage it sustained. It is a diamond-shaped lot that faces due west, so it could have taken a direct hit. Will wait until things are better under control before I reach out to others in the area via social media.

Shopping is mostly done. A few things here or there need to be picked up. Christmas cards are done and will go into the drop box inside the post office tonite. Daughter is coming tomorrow for our annual day of baking. And, I have lots of wrapping to do.

    1. It breaks my heart for all those people who lost homes and loved ones.
I hope your lot is OK - but thankfully there is no structures there (from what it sounds like). Sure hope everyone you know is good and safe.
Baking day with daughter sounds like fun. Have fun and don't sample too many!!!!!

  7. I didn't have a dinner plan after breakfast. I ended up cooking 1c up black beans, adding in 1c of corn, 5oz of frozen taco meat and a 10ounce can of enchilada sauce. We had 5 small flour tortillas so I made 5 enchiladas with a heaping dose of cheese :-)

Made a spanish rice-a-roni and voila! Dinner from the pantry. Hubster will divide leftovers into lunches for work so he's set there for at least 2 days.

Yesterday we had spaghetti made with a brick of my garden ratatouille and some frozen Italian meat thrown in.

Friday I cooked salmon, rice pilaf and the last of the farmer's market veggies-beets.

No waste these last 2 weeks!!!! I'm out of fresh veg so now it's get more creative from the freezer veg or head to the store. I'll plan to shop Tuesday so I'll need to dig for Monday dinner :-)

    1. Your dinners all sound so yummy. Good job. The enchiladas sound terrific - that is my favorite type of food.
      Love using the pantry!

  8. Glad to hear that your sister is improving. So many people killed and injured, not to mention property damage in the South. We did not get the wind speeds that Ole Jim was predicting but that's okay...we'll do without storm damage.

You got some good buys! Meijer and Fresh Thyme both had oranges fairly cheap so we've been juicing them in the mornings. Nothing better than freshly squeezed juice.

Brava on repairing your phone! You are one smart cookie!

    Excellent Scripture choice...

    1. It is so heart breaking for all the southern states. We sure did luck out - it was scary here, but nothing like they had.
I love OJ and oranges - I just crave both. This is the first fresh oranges in a while, as they are usually way too costly.
      Thank you!

  9. Good for you on the phone repair, that was a good savings. We invited a friend to church with us yesterday and had him spend the night. He was nice enough to take us to Runza after church for lunch. Not finished with shopping yet. I do a little at a time as the money is available. It is not a whole lot for anyone. I did get the box mailed to our daughter and her family in Ohio. That cost a bunch but I still enjoy doing it. One of these years I'll have to stop doing that I suppose and send cash or gift cards.

    1. How lovely to spend time with your friend. Nice he took you out as well.
Mailing packages can cost more than the present itself. It is crazy how much it costs now. I think for the most part I would do GC's if I had to send much!
My spending is mainly the little ones with a few add ins for the grown-up goody baskets.

  10. I have been reading constantly about the terrible storms/tornados that the southern states had. My heart breaks for those affected.

I am happy to read your sister is improving.

    God bless.

She is improving, very slowly, but moving forward.
      Thanks.
