We all like easy, frugal and not wasting. I saw an acquaintance on FB post a recipe she tried, and I figured I had to give it a try. Well, let me say - this will be my use it up go to recipe for a tasty sweety bite from now on!
Seriously you need to give this a try.
I used an older box of cake mix and a very much past 'best by' date of pie filling! I smelled it, tasted and all was good. So I used it.
Here is the easy-peasy cake!
1 box cake mix
1 can pie filling (home canned or store bought)
3 eggs
Mix together and follow the instructions for baking that were on the cake mix box.
THAT'S IT!
Probably not the prettiest color of cake - but it sure is tasty. Very moist, yet light and has a nice hint of raspberry taste. I didn't ice the cake - just used a little whip cream on top. The 2nd piece was eaten plain!!!!! LOL! Yes, it was that good.
Think of the possibilities.
Spice cake mix with apple or peach fruit
Chocolate mix with cherry or any berry
White/yellow mix - no limit to what pie fillings you could use
Yes indeed, I will be doing this again. I still have a few cakes mixes I got for next to nothing that need used, and I have lots of different pie fillings - both home canned pints and store bought.
Great way to use up those past date items, it saves money on snacks, and it does taste soooooo good. You can't eat just one piece!
Give it a try and ENJOY!
made raspberry pies yesterday. I've never seen raspberry pie filling in the store. Your recipe is similar to the dump cakes where canned fruit is added to a cake mix.
ReplyDeleteI got the raspberry at Aldi. Yes, similar - just no butter and only uses one can of filling.
DeleteI love raspberry pie!
That definitely sounds easy. I'll have to check the cupboard for cake mixes, but I'm pretty sure I don't have any pie filling. What I do have are several apples that are starting to wrinkle. They'll work, I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteIt is so easy and good. Where there is a will there is a way!!!!
DeleteSounds yummy, and I do need to bake soon. I tried your dump cake recipe, but Husband found the topping hard to eat. I think he'll have no trouble with this. LOL at how you used "a little" whipped cream!
ReplyDeleteI can understand the dump cake especially with nuts. This is just so light and moist - I bet he would love it!
DeleteSure - a little!!! You think not? LOL - can't have too much whipped cream!
Thank you, Cheryl! I love quick & easy + using up what's on hand. Will give it a try. --Elise
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome. You won't be disappointed!
DeleteThanks for this! I have about a half can of cherry pie filling, leftover from the cheesecakes I made for my mom's birthday. Think I'll use it up with a Jiffy cake mix I have on hand. Yummy for dessert tonite!
ReplyDeleteThere you go - what a great use it up!
DeleteI don't eat sugar but this would be great to bring to a dinner, you could sprinkle powdered sugar on top for pretty. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYes it would - it would be a hit too!
DeleteCheryl, what size pan?
ReplyDeleteIt depends according to what your cake mix box says. I used a 9 x 13. Box tells baking temps and times for the size pan. Bake according to box.
DeleteYum! I wrote this one down. Easy peasy and the combinations are endless. Raspberry is my favorite but I don't know if I've ever seen it.
ReplyDeleteYes the possibilities are endless. I got it at Aldi once and have never seen it again. I got a bunch when I found it.
DeleteGreat idea. That is close to an old WW recipe! I never understood how eating cake could help me lose weight. lol.
ReplyDeleteYour cake sounds delicious. xo Diana
Well, I imagine a piece now and then keeps one from bingeing, so that would be good.
DeleteIt really is tasty. Glad I saw the recipe and so many options!
Oh, that sounds so good! Thank you for the recipe, Cheryl.
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome. I am sure enjoying it!
DeleteENJOY
I love these kind of dump cakes. At least that is what my mother called them.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Super easy and frugal! Using what you have.
DeleteSeveral years ago, I poured prepared chocolate cake mix over a can of cherry pie filling. It was like chocolate covered cherries!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds divine!!!!!!
DeleteSounds really good to me!
ReplyDeleteIT IS!!!! Easy too!
DeleteYou are really tempting me with that cake!
ReplyDeleteGive it a try!
