Weekly Wrap-Up 2/13

Happy Sunday to all.  Here we are starting another week - getting closer to spring each and every day.  However, some days it sure hasn't felt like it!!!  I hope this post finds you all safe and healthy!!

We had another roller coaster week this past week and this coming one looks to be much the same.  We have very cold, nice and warm and snow and rain.  It seems we have been getting at least 2 seasons a week lately!  As I type, we are getting flurries (big old flakes) and it is in the teens.  There is still white stuff in the yard - not as much, but still there.  By midweek it will be close to 60 and rain - then back to snow and cold by the end of the week!!!!
This past Wednesday t got up to 50* and yes - I aired the house a bit!!!!  LOL!  I know, crazy - but it felt so good.

Today is Super Bowl Sunday - so those who are having get togethers, please stay safe and healthy!  Not something I will be watching.
Tomorrow is Valentine's Day.  A happy, happy day to all.  I have never been one who really celebrated it, as it just seemed like a money maker day - and I always thought you should show your love daily.

Just an update:  Sis has been released by the doctors!  She has been told she can do whatever she is comfortable doing.  They told her she will have pain for probably at least a year, as everything continues to heal.  Not only the break, but muscles and tendons.  Her range of motion will not be the same - but she is grateful to be able to do what she can and what she wants.  So thankful for all the wonderful prayers from everyone.

It has been another quiet week.
  • I spent a lot of time early in the week, breaking up ice and clearing walks.  It took days
  • Cut my hair
  • Did a root touch up
  • Laundry and line dried in the basement
  • Made a batch of brownies
  • Found a chub of bologna in freezer - made a bowl of meat spread
  • Using what I have and cooking from scratch
  • I did go out to the grocery one day - first for month.  Got some fresh goods, cat treats, milk, snacks, sour cream, crackers, eggs.  There were some holes in the store stock - but they were stocking.  Lots of skids in aisles with supplies.
  • Just doing all the normal things we all do - nothing exciting!
Meals this past week:
Chicken, cabbage steak & fresh veggies
Homemade Vegetable Lo-mein
Potato soup and olive loaf sandwich (both from freezer)
Leftover Lo-mein and fried cabbage
Grilled tuna patty/cheese sandwich, cuke/tomato salad
Meat spread with crackers and fresh veggies
Meat spread sandwich and chips
SNACKS - nuts, fruit and brownies
Homemade meat spread (bologna salad) - used a bit of this and that in it.  Sure was tasty (and simple) for a nice change.

How was your week?  Are you staying warm and safe?  Any bargains or deals?  Give us a shout out and let us all know what is going on in your corner of the world.  Let's help inspire each other.

I pray you all have a safe, healthy and lovely week.  Blessings from my humble little home to yours.

He who walks with wise men becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.
Proverbs 13:20

Lord, help us to know who to trust in this world.  Keep us from evil and those who present themselves as Your sheep but are truly wolves in sheep's clothing.  We are being pursued daily by the misguided.  Help us stay our path towards You and Your word.  AMEN

  1. We've had spring/summer weather this week, Cheryl, with temps as high as the 80s!! Crazy! Since I'm not going to run the air conditioner in February, there were a few sleepless nights.

This week we ate many meals from one large London broil, using some creativity: regular roast beef dinner, cold beef sandwiches on sourdough with lettuce and tomato, BBQ beef with (sore brand) Tater Tots and salad, and finally a beef & veggie skillet dinner that made 2 meals. Today I'm making a homemade version of El Pollo Loco's family meal ($20 with coupon) for about 1/2 that price to share with our sons, who'll be here for Sunday Supper.

So happy to hear that your sister is able to do what she feels comfortable with. We'll continue to pray for her. Thank you for today's verse and prayer, too. And Amen! --Elise

    1. Oops. That should be "store brand". I really ought to pre-edit before posting.

    2. 80's!!!!! Oh my goodness. That is really something.
WOW you made great use of your meat - what wonderful sounding meals.
Thank you - we can use extra prayers!

  2. I'm with you on V-day. A Hallmark and consumer spending spree! Years ago one of my surgeon's new wife said "don't ever buy me a gemstone for V-day, it's a sham". I love that about her.

"Valentine's Day spending is predicted to reach $23.9 billion in 2022, which is the second-highest year on record. Shoppers will spend $175.41 on average this year, which is up slightly from $164.76 last year but still far below the series high of nearly $200 in 2020."

I will concede that I did spend $2.12 on brach's hearts for hubby. He loves those darn things but I'm far shy of my allotted $175.41.

Yea for a lovely peaceful week. Praise the Lord for sis!!!!!

I shall be hubsterless for 3d this week. I'm kinda looking forward to meals of tuna, raw veg, hummus/crackers, hard boiled eggs....at the moment I'm burned out on cooking meals but I am ever so grateful to have him so cooking it shall be. :-)

    Wishing everyone a fabulous week!

    1. Spending all that money - which most probably shouldn't be spending, but feel they should. How many bills could be paid or groceries purchased??
I like the taste of those little hearts myself.
Simple meals can be so satisfying. Easy, cheap and just plain yum. Enjoy your alone time.
Thank you and you have a good one.

  3. So glad for the update on your sister. The weather's been pretty much the same here, though only up to the low 40's. On the roller coaster now, in the teens, but going up above 50* mid-week. It's giving my sinuses a chance to flare up. Although I've had my grocery list ready all week and have been watching the sales flyers for good deals, I just haven't felt the need or desire to shop this week. I DO have to make a quick run today, for an ingredient I need to complete a dip recipe I'm taking to a friend's for Super Bowl. It will be served with homemade beer bread pieces to use as dippers. I decided to pull out the bread machine that I was gifted last summer (used, but like new), and am currently testing it out with the first yeast bread I've ever made. I can't believe how easy it was, the hardest being using salt to make the beer go flat more quickly. Guess we'll see if it works!

    1. Thanks.
Weather has really been up and down all over this year. Kind of crazy. I have taken much allergy medicine this winter!
No sense going shopping if you don't have to. You must be set pretty well - so just go with the flow.
Glad you have enjoyed the bread maker. They do make it pretty easy!

  4. It's a lovely day in NI today. Most unusual.
The decorator is coming Thursday to paint my living room and bedroom. Its both a need and a want.
    Good news on your sisterx

      Thank you!

  5. Your weather sounds just like ours. A lot of our snow has melted, too. At least the driveway is clear. There is so much Spring bird song early in the mornings now, and the males are getting their breeding plumage.

Glad to hear your sister is doing well. Speaking from my broken wrist + surgery experience nearly a year ago (on the 16th), it does take time. I still (and will probably always will) have slight pain in the muscles and tendons. It will never be as strong as it was, either. The most important thing is to keep using it and strengthening it. I still do some of the exercises that the PT taught me.

Went out a little this week. Got a DVD from the library for Husband, but it was defective, so I returned it the next day. Stopped at the local grocery on the way home and picked up some loss leader cake and brownie mixes.

Ordered a new coat zipper online; should be delivered today. My poor old coat is at least 16 years old and the black has faded to a rusty color, but it is still quite warm and is machine washable. I do have a better coat for "good", but why get it dirty in day-to-day use.

Lots of crocheting this week. I am dropping off 5 mos. worth of blankets at the Project Linus workshop tomorrow and picking up supplies to keep me busy for another 6 mos.

Lots of genealogy, too. I've been using FamilySearch(dot)com since it is free. Out of curiosity, I clicked on a family tree that started with my grandmother. Someone had taken one of the lines back to the 10th Century! I'm supposedly related to Harthacnut, William the Conqueror, and King Henry I. Suuuure. I laughed so hard I cried. I imagine my grandmother (who was doing genealogy before I was born) is rolling in her grave! Now I know why I've had an interest in medieval English history - my DNA was there! LOl!

A trip to Aldi (salad & dairy) and Costco (to get gas & pick up RXs) is scheduled for Tuesday. Hope to be finishing the taxes later in the week.

Hamburger stroganoff in the slow cooker for this week. Used a free baguette (from the Tuesday box) to make garlic bread for a couple of meals, then used the rest to make a hoagie for last night's dinner. Better than the local pizzeria!

    1. The birds are singing. I noticed that the other day. Sounded like spring.
One does have to keep moving to heal. Sis is still doing her exercises herself as well.
WOW - that is a lot of blankets - that will surely be appreciated.
Genealogy can be fun - and well, funny at times. Some people sure do take liberties!
Sounds like a great week. Sure is cheaper than pizzeria! Better tasting too.

  6. Although our temperatures haven't gotten much above freezing, we've had a couple of nice days, back into the deepfreeze, then somewhere in between with more snow. Not enough thankfully, to make it a difficult clear out this morning.

As for a temperature in the 50's, that's tee-shirt weather here. Shorts for some people, but not for me.

    1. LOL - t-shirts for some people here as well!
You sure have had a cold and snowy winter.
      Have a nice week.

  7. The crazy weather continues. Almost 70 for the last two days and now it is a balmy 42. Friday we took a ride up to the mountains to eat an early Valentine's mid afternoon meal out. We stopped at Sam's there and found bread flour which our store has not had in several months. We made a quick stop at the Grocery Outlet there and got Hillshire Farm cheddar sausages for 1.49 a pack x2, a beautiful pork roast for 1.19 a pound, 3.5 pound bag of Nestle milk chocolate chips for 6.99 and a case of chicken broth quarts for .69 each. We are not avocado eaters but they had them for 25 each which is a crazy deal.

My goodness, what deals you got. I sure like to have an outlet. You get the best prices. I would totally be there all the time!! LOL

    2. The discount grocery stores can be a dangerous place for me! Too many good deals!

  8. You are so right about two seasons in one week!

Such good news about you sister! I'm sure she is delighted.

Your meals always sound so good. We had chili yesterday and will finish it off today over baked potatoes.

So many holidays are money makers. Every single day should be a day to celebrate. Stay warm and safe!

    1. Yes 2 seasons a week for ages now! I guess that is better than just winter!!

  9. We're having the same kind of weather. In the teens here this weekend; by Wednesday it'll be 50, then snow on Thursday. So strange.

Groceries were only $45 this week, because I only needed to go to one store- sadly, because the other stores had nothing good on sale in their ads. It happens sometimes, and my pantry is prepared for those kinds of weeks! Hoping for better sales next week. :) Have a great week!

Good for you. Sales have been weak lately. Thanks for giving everyone another reason for keeping stocked! Always be prepared.

  10. So peaceful here, I enjoy reading your menus and such, just what you have been up to, those simple pleasures and contentment.

That scripture and your prayer is perfect for the times we are in.

Glad to hear your sister is doing well.

  11. Temps are warm; 40-50s. I think we'll have an early spring. I pray we get moisture (rain) soon. We are so dry.
I found sales at Kohl's and a 30% off coupon and got our 4 youngest grands some shirts. They averaged under $5.00 each. I try to help them out as much as I can. 4 Littles in 5 years is expensive. I also got a new mattress pad for us at just under $18 (originally $90). I saved $152.00 on the 11 shirts and pad.

Tonight I made a big pot of chili and some cornbread. I'll give a quart to DSon. The rest I'll pressure can for later. We'll eat the cornbread for lunches.
I also made some peach ice cream. We both saw it advertised at Culver's and thought it sounded good. I had all the ingredients on hand plus we have the small electric ice cream maker. So basically "free."
Looking at my menu for this week, I will not need to get anything from the store. :D

You did great. What a good deal and savings.
Seems chili is in the air! I just love chili. Oh, homemade ice cream is the best. I bet that was delicious! Got to love free!
      You sound very prepared!

  13. It looks like your area can't decide if it's winter or spring. A little of both I guess. We're supposed to be getting some snow mid-week. I sure hope it materializes. I'm more partial to winter than spring. I think Valentine's day was created by the card and candy companies to make more money. That being said, I will be taken out to dinner by hubby so who am I to complain? LOL Don't need any candy though, we're still working through a mountain of Christmas candy and cookies. I am so intrigued by your bologna spread. I have never heard of it being prepared like that. Around here we just slap our bologna on some bread with mayo, cheese and lettuce.

    1. No, it can't decide. I wish I could send you some snow.
Have a nice dinner out. I finally got rid of all the holiday goodies.
I will be posting how I made it this week. I usually eat bologna that way too - this was a big chub of bologna, not slices.
      Have a good one.

  14. January was a month of shovel snow/pack wood. The same can't be said for February so far. Temps have been hovering around the freezing mark and that's balmy winter weather as far as I'm concerned. Snow was shoveled once this past week but there has been some ice to contend with. I have cleats for my boots and that prevents slips on the ice. I've managed to walk 6/7 days this past week without pushing a snow shovel! I repaid the snow angel from last week with chocolate chip cookies. Cookies are my currency for those angels who help me out. Feb is a birthday month. My oldest granddaughter turned 14; my SIL has a BD today & my mom will be 89 on Thurs. My niece & I have planned a luncheon for my SIL - bruschetta appetizer, lasagna, Caesar salad, coconut cake. It's the first entertaining I have done for 2 months & I'm really looking forward to it. I got the freezer defrosted, the annual clean out. I always tell my friends to check the freezer if I go missing in case I've fallen in head down, butt up! I discovered a leaking toilet & think a gasket needs replacing so that will have to be tended to this coming wk. There's always something on the home maintenance list. All in all, a good week.

    1. Good for you on the walking! I don't have cleats, but only my boots will keep me upright on icy stuff - nothing else works.
I am sure your helpers loved their cookies.
Lots of birthdays!!!! Happiest of birthdays to all of you!!!!! Sounds like fun getting together.

That is funny about the freezer - they are deep! Always nice to have them clean and organized. Hope the toilet s an easy fix.
      Have a fun week!

  15. So glad your Sis is better. It is very icy all around our house. We used salt but we walk on the grass to get to the coop and the shed. He is going out today to get sand for the ice in the grass. We walk like very old people when we go out. Stay safe (we don't do the Superbowl either).
