I sometimes wonder what the heck are we waiting for? So much of life is put on hold for what I am now seeing as 'stupid reasons'. At least for me.
We put off using the good china or linen for a special occasion! What is considered special?
We put off calling or going to see someone for a better time! When is that?
We put off buying that thing we want for another time! When is the time right?
You get where I am coming from? We put things off and then that day may not come or can't come. We may not get the chance. We may be gone. Someone else may be gone.
WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR?????
Quit the b*tching and the belly aching. Quit being so darn negative. Quit being a Debbie Downer. Quit saying - what if.
Just go into each day with a positive attitude and a happy disposition. Look at the good at things - not the negative.
Prices going up - well it happens. Be glad you can prepare ahead.
Stock short in stores - be grateful for what you can get.
You run out of something - know you can substitute
You are aching and feeling bad - you have been given another day. A GIFT
You are just barely getting by - some are not. Some have no home, family or income
There is ALWAYS something to be grateful for!!!!!!! There is always a reason to just DO IT!
Such true words. Stuff happens - it always has, it always will - just put on them big girl panties and get busy with being the best you can be!
Life waits for no one! If you don't do it, love it, use it, enjoy it - no one else will.
All those things we save for special days - well, someday when we are gone, they will probably go into the big yard sale! It happens.
Enjoy your things. Enjoy your money. Enjoy your family and friends. ENJOY your life!!!!!!
STOP waiting - DO IT!
LIFE IS WORTH IT ALL!
I agree 100%. You never know when your health or your spouse's health will clip your wings so get out there and fly!
ReplyDeleteYES! Life changes in an instant literally! ENJOY
DeleteAs you and I both know, be grateful for every moment you have with your loved ones, because tomorrow is never a given. Just open the gift you are given every morning with gratitude for a new day.
ReplyDeleteAmen!!!!!! Nothing to add to that!
DeleteI tend to live my life that way, at least most of the time. The only thing I've put off is selling my house and I did try to that. But life has a way of getting in the way sometimes when we're busy making plans. But when I look back it was the best that could have happened. My goal was to travel, but that wouldn't have been possible during the pandemic. So I stayed safely in my home and am working towards selling it in a couple of years instead.
ReplyDeleteI believe everything happens for a reason. There is a time and season for all things. Both will find the right time to happen.
DeleteLOVE this, Cheryl, thank you. It's so easy to put off things for another day, waiting for that special or perfect or more convenient time, but never really know just how much time has been allotted us on this earth. The past few years have driven that home for many.
ReplyDeleteOne of the main reasons for living frugally is so you have the ability to live life more fully in your own way. All the little savings adds up. I've an acquaintance who loves to go camping. She just couldn't understand grocery shopping based on sales, etc. and would spend $100 or more per week for "organic" convenience in (what I call) trendy markets. I tried to show her she could halve her grocery bill and cover one camping weekend per month in trade off just by shopping and planning differently. Think outside the box and plan for the things you love NOW. --Elise
YES, we are frugal to enable us to do other things. I truly believe that. No matter what it is. Hobbies, traveling, weekends, etc. It all adds up.
DeleteSome people will never get it! I feel sorry for them.
A Native American once taught me "Each day is a Life. Each day is a full Life."
ReplyDeleteIf you would do today differently if you were positive you would NOT wake to see the next sunrise you've lost a day.
No regret. No what-if. LIVE TODAY! :-)
Love that. Indeed - live IT! ENJOY it. SIEZE it.
DeleteGreat post and so true! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome. Thank you for being here!!!
DeletePreach it, sistah! Pinned both quotes. We are not guaranteed tomorrow. However, that doesn't mean one should be irresponsible and foolhardy. Cheryl, you are so right: there is a time and season for everything. My mom raised kids during the Great Depression so she always saved things for "good". I have been giving my girls some family treasures so they can enjoy them now.
ReplyDeleteMy Mom saved things as well - and you know what? When she passed, most people didn't even want them. So sad. I have a lot of things - and I have been trying to share. Gifts at Christmas and sharing recipes and such.
DeleteWe just need to love each day.
I have learned that I need to prepare in case of emergencies. When you are on a fixed income every dollar counts. Yes, I have a good deal of money put away to fill in the gaps. I look at the big picture, do I need this, will I use this, will this make a difference in my everyday life. I have no problem using or purchasing things. I just ask myself those questions before I do so.
ReplyDeleteMe too! I ask myself those questions a lot. If it isn't something I just LOVE or it isn't going to change my life - I think why.
DeleteI am set pretty good financially for the long run - and you know I have always thought about the WHO would get it when I am gone. I am now thinking WHY? I may as well use it - heck we earned it. They all have their own.
I say set up a trust for your littles, so they can go to college without student loans. The greatest gift is education. if there is left over money set it up for them to receive a gift at graduation and then maybe when they are 35 to help with a down payment on a home. They know you love them but young adults do not understand the value of money. You will give them that by sharing what you know as they grow up.
DeleteI have heard countless stories about families cleaning out a deceased loved one's things and finding gifts they've given still wrapped in tissue, unused, etc. I started down that "save it/wait a bit" road. One thing stirring around in my mind thru my whole 20s was the idea of packing just a carry on, no hotel reservations or plans, and booking airline tickets for 5 days in London! I wanted a friend to go with me but I was sure my fellow responsible friends would think I went round the twist! I ended up mentioning this idea to them in the last couple of years and all 3 said the same thing!!!! "I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO DO THAT!!!". I regret it now.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, by around 35 I had shed the saving mentality and started using everything. My mom's china gets used from September through February. I will wear my special wedding jewelry to church or Hobby Lobby! If I have any, I wear my fancy perfume ever day. I figure if I'm up and breathing, it's a special enough day to use anything I have.
Thanks for such a good example of feeling regret. WOW - wouldn't that have been fun?
DeleteI had a chance between my Junior and Senir year to go to Europe. My folks bought me luggage for Christmas - we paid the down payment - had reservations. It was a school thing and lots of my chums went. I chickened out at the last minute about flying across the ocean!!!
I wonder now - but it didn't happen and I am OK with that.
I used to be a saver - now I try to use or gift things.
Good for you on using your things!
Cheryl, It is not too late. If you want to travel see a travel agent. One of my husband's Aunt's traveled all over the world on senior group trips. The only downside is leaving your furbabies. I am sure that one of your family would be able to house sit and baby sit.
DeleteThis is such a great attitude and one I am really working on. Hubs was all for taking the car on this trip to see daughter, and I said no we are taking the truck and the 4 wheeler. He was worried about the cost of the gas. I don't care. How long will these boys be young enough to be thrilled when grandpa comes with a 4 wheeler?
ReplyDeleteThese days of youth and thrill don't last. DO it now. Pick your mother up and take her with, how many years does someone at 94 have left? Do it now.
YES - DO IT!!!!! Go and have fun and make memories. They will last a lifetime for the kids. That will be fun and you will all look back with sweet memories.
DeleteWe are frugal so we can help our sons buy homes (been bugging Kris for quite awhile to do so and am so glad he finally has). It is their inheritance and we would really like to see them enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteIt is also so we can travel or get our internet TV and WIFI and to heck with the cost as those are our primary source of entertainment.
God bless.
That is wonderful! I love that you want to see them enjoy their inheritance. That is really special. My Mom used to give monetary gifts, saying just that. She wanted to see us be happy.
DeleteYes, TV and cable are my entertainment as well - along with the computer. They cost now a days - the price sure has gone up. But still cheaper than going out.
Blessings
Yes. 100% yes! : )
ReplyDeleteCheryl, have you ever heard of Channel Master? We love ours and ditched cable. No fees, just a little device that gives you taping abilities, and the online menu etc. It's all antenna television but antenna has so much now, we love it and are not missing a thing, there is old movie channel, old cowboy shows everything. : ) We've had ours for more than several years and have given them to our married kids for Christmas. They love it. : )
God bless!
Thank you so much for that tip. That is neat to know. I love options and FREE is good.
DeleteGood word sister!
