Just a Moment in Time

 Good morning and happy mid-week!!!
Each morning when I go out to feed the cats (6:30AM) - I get this wonderfully lovely aroma that just smacks me in the face.  It is light and sweet and flowery.  It is a bit heavenly.  While the cats eat (I bring in wet food dishes when done), I stand outside and breath in every ounce of this wonderful scent I can.
I get the same sensation each evening, when I go out and pick up all the food dishes at about 7:30-8PM
I don't tend to smell it during the day.

THIS is what I smell - the phlox.  I swear each time I stand and look at them and smell them - I am taken back to childhood.  They were everywhere around our home - these came from there.  I have just a huge patch of them this year (in a few spots too).  I didn't think they were doing very well - then the rain came!!!!   I just love the delicacy of each little flower.  The hummingbirds have been loving them too!
These are in so many new places this year.  I have bunches and bunches and they are even growing in the neighbor's yard.  They have spread so much.  Such delicate little flowers. It is also a great herb - mallow.
Clematis is blooming again.  They aren't huge flowers but they sure are pretty.  Lavender seems to be the color of the yard at the moment!

This looks pink - but it is actually salmon colored.  So fragrant.
My oldest rose - was established when we moved here 36 years ago.  It IS pink and smells wonderful- looks like the bee thinks so as well.

Just a moment in my back yard.  I thought I would share.  I know you all love flowers too.

I will leave you with this thought today.  It is so very true.
We tend to get so impatient - but God knows when the time is right and what is supposed to happen and when.
Keep the faith.

  1. First, I want to let you know I recorded the show you told us about with The Pioneer Woman. Watching this morning and it is really good.

I don't have any flowers or rose bushes in the yard. I do have honeysuckle which I love. The strange thing I like is that someone else uses gain for there laundry. Sometimes when I step outside with the pups, that fragrance feels the air. It is quite lovely,
    Have a wonderful day!!

    1. Honeysuckle! Oh, that brings back wonderful childhood memories of summer. I spent those years in Virginia, where honeysuckle grew wild. Such a sweet, intoxicating scent!

    2. Texas. I love honeysuckle. I used to have that years ago - but it finally died out.
Glad you enjoyed the cooking show!

Where we used to camp - there was a huge patch of honeysuckle growing and when the wind was just right - I could smell it when I woke up!

  2. Our timing doesn't matter...it is the Father's timing that is important. Just like a child who runs ahead of his parent, too many people (myself included) run ahead of the Father.

Your flowers are beautiful! I am admiring your roses. Mine did really well earlier in the season and then turned straggly.

Thank you. My climbers look pretty straggly, but the others are still blooming.

  3. Beautiful! Yesterday I was talking to my Mom who in a nursing home and has dementia and she said she was going to die in her sleep one night. I told that she need not worry about that because God knows the day and the hour that she would go home to Heaven. That was a real comfort to her to be reminded that He is in control.

    1. Lana, my 89 yr. old mom also has dementia and is now with my sister and brother-in-law. She regularly says she doesn't know why God hasn't taken her home yet, and I remind her that He knows the time. My mother-in-law is in end stage kidney cancer. She's lived a full 18 months longer than doctors expected. He has a purpose in their being here with us yet. --Elise

    2. Lana - That is so sweet that you comforted her. God is ALWAYS in control! Bless her heart.

Elise - My mom wanted to go for so long, and she couldn't understand. I told her the same thing - in God's time. He has some plan for each of us - and we don't go till we are done.

  4. The flowers are absolutely beautiful. I don't go out as early as you, but I certainly enjoy the aroma that comes with the various plants, including fresh mown grass and the smell of the earth after a refreshing rain. Nature truly is a blessing.

    1. I think fresh mown grass is my favorite smell! I have always loved it. There are just certain things that really make us aware of how wonderful and awesome nature is.

    2. I love fresh mown grass, too! When it rains my husband throws open the door to our screen porch so we can smell that fresh rain smell.

  5. You have such a beautiful garden, Cheryl! How I love flowers of all kinds. Everywhere we've lived in America I've planted gardens. Wasn't going to do so here... LOL! Today we'll plant the lilac bushes and 2nd round of daylilies; both can handle the rocky clay soil and need little to no maintenance. It seems those perennial wildflower seeds were carried about 40-50 ft. from the house to a lower area between the tall cedar and juniper trees. They've sprouted and are growing there. God knows best! --Elise

Isn't that something - He planted them where He thought they should be. God is just amazing!

    2. Carried there by the flash flood, Cheryl, so definitely HIS hand. I'll remember that from year to year now.

    1. Thank you. I didn't plant that one rose - it was here when we moved in 36 years ago. It sure is a strong plant! Gosh, I have moved it 2 times myself.
      Enjoy the show.

  11. I remember picking phlox blossoms as a child and nibbling the base where the nectar is. Phlox fragrance is lovely.
I am enjoying the dashing about of hummingbirds at my teepee of scarlet runner beans. I never put out hummingbird feeders but offer them plenty of natural flowers for food.
I do not share your faith but I can accept that life has its ups and downs. We have power over our deliberate actions so we can effect changes in our world to a degree.

    1. I did the same thing with honeysuckle when I was a kid! I love the little hummies - they sure are little flying gems!

That is fine - not everyone has the same faith. I think we all just want the best for all. And we all try to live our best life.
      All are welcome here.

  12. My son once told me that the evening perfume from the moonflowers, alyssum, datura and woodland tobacco in my garden "smell like home." They self-sow every year, with the exception of the moonflowers. I love all of my fragrant flowers, but my favorite perfume is that of the four o'clocks. My grandmother grew them. I have red ones like hers. This year I added pennyroyal between the stepping stones in my sideyard. I hope it comes back, It is delightful, and so cute. A mini-mint but not safe to consume.

    1. What a neat comment for your son to say. I am sure that will always be the case for him. I am that way as well - it just reminds me of mom and daddy and home.
      No better compliment.
I bet all those flowers are beautiful!

  13. I’m trying to be more aware of sounds when I go out early morning to feed the cats. The birds, the meows, roosters crowing,a lawnmower, etc.

    1. It really is neat to do. We are so used to hearing planes and traffic - we miss all the other nice things. If you pay attention, there are so many sweet sounds and songs!!
