Things Don't Impress - Actions Do

Good morning all.  Thinking of each of as this year winds down.
Keeping our friends, Kim and Hilogene both in my prayers for comfort and love and healing after they have both lost their spouses this week.  It is all just so sad.

We never know what life will throw at us at any given time.  These are just 2 more examples that life can change in a split second.  My did - others have been through this as well.  No time to prepare or understand.
Sadly, death is part of life - every day someone is going through it.  It is all so heart breaking.

This is why it is so important to be kind and good and understanding to EVERYONE every day.
I have never been impressed with money - I am always impressed with kindness and goodness.

Treat people as you would want to be treated.  Get over the small crap - it truly isn't important.  Stop making a big deal over things that will not matter tomorrow, next week or next month.  Love people for themselves.  There is NO ONE on this earth that is perfect (regardless to what some think)!  We are all imperfect, we all make mistakes, we all need to learn, and we are all broken in some way.
Kindness is so very important.
One tiny, nice word or act - could change a person's life.  It could bring them a smile or a moment of joy, that they may not have had on that day.  It may let them know that someone cares - and maybe that could change life altering decisions for them.

Yes, life is hard for everyone!!!!!  No one is exempt.  Everyone has feelings - and we should never disregard them.  Your feelings are YOURS!  You can feel the way you need to feel and that is fine.  BUT, that does not give anyone the right to be nasty to someone else, whose feelings or ideas are different.
It is NEVER OK to be mean to others.

Be kind and be loving.  Pray for others and put others before yourself.  Treat others the way you want to be treated.  Life is so very short - and we should want to make each day the best we can.  Make it the best for others and for yourself.  If you are kind to others - it comes back to you!!!!!  I truly believe that.

Please stay safe and have a cozy NY eve.  If you are out and about - be safe.  Take a moment or two for yourself and just sit back and reflect and enjoy those you are with.
I will be back on NY day with a new post.

Have a blessed day my friends.
Have a safe and lovely New Year's Eve.

  1. Wow. That's pretty entitled, isn't it. If I were her hubs I'd be ashamed and embarrassed. And perhaps I'd not go shopping with her again. I've refused to take my children places where they embarrassed me with poor behaviour.

Happy New Year to all, and safe driving if you're going out and about. Thanks to Cheryl for this blog. :)

  3. I am really amazed that this needs to be taught to adults. But you do an excellent job of teaching this. These are the things my mama and daddy taught me when I was a little girl. Of course I have never kept them perfectly, but I do strive to live this way. What is sad is that some people grow to adulthood and never learn this along the way, and you have to be the teacher. But thank you for teaching, and I always need reminders. I hope your new year is a very, very good one. :)

    1. I need reminders too - I am sure we all do. But you are so right - it is absolutely amazing that some people do not have the vaguest clue about these things. Never taught or never learned. We are so much a grain of sand in this world - yet some think they are so mighty and self entitled.
      Thank you!

  5. Such good advice, Cheryl. It's why this blog is an encouragement and salve for so many. I loved Amelia's depiction (yesterday) of shining through the broken pieces of glass like a Tiffany lamp. And I appreciate everyone here... *all* of you, whether you comment or not. We learn so much from one another. We lift each other up. You've created a beautiful place, Cheryl, according to God's blessings. Thank you.

To Kim and Hilogene, my family is keeping you in our prayers.

    1. Thank you, my friend. This blog has evolved over time, as have I. It used to be just frugal stuff - but now it is everything. Life encompasses a lot - so I try to touch on a variety of things. You all help so much. I just love this group so much. Such dear, dear people.

  6. Some people are just so entitled feeling. A name or money gets you nothing in my book. Niceness does.
It is embarrassing to all when someone makes a scene.

Thanks Mary - you stay safe as well!
Glad to have you all here!!!!!

  8. P.S. Thanks to Elise for her prayers for the plumbing issue in my daughter's house. Nothing is too minor to benefit from prayer. The plumber was supposed to come back on Monday with his heavy duty pipe cleaner-outer thingie. Didn't show. She called the office and the landlord came out today and he knew right where to flush it out and Bob's your uncle, problem solved.

    1. So glad to hear that, Donna! A plumbing issue isn't a minor issue when you're the one dealing with it, as your daughter was. And thank you for the birthday wishes. :-)

  9. We have been pleasantly surprised this holiday season by the kindness of others. I remember not too many years back when everyone was rude and pushy around this time of year but we did not encounter that once this year. I am hoping that all the events of the last few years have changed us forever.

    1. You have been very fortunate! I still see rudeness and nasty people - but maybe not as much. If you listen to the news at all (I do local) if is apparent they are still nasty. I am thrilled you have had a pleasant season.

  10. Cheryl you're right, life is way too short to be rude and nasty. A smile, a kind word costs nothing and may mean the world to another person.

    1. It sure could. It costs nothing - and could be so meaningful for another. Wouldn't the world be lovely if everyone practiced being nice and kind.

  11. Unfortunately, I have a couple of family members in my life who wouldn't even understand what you're talking about, Cheryl. One of them once said to me "someone was rude to me at the grocery store today and I was rude right back"!! Wow just wow. I didn't say a thing because I knew from past conversations when I'd gently suggest maybe the other person was having a hard day & could use some understanding I'd be criticizing for not understanding how people are-- they need to be corrected and put in their place!

I remember years ago waiting in line at McDonald's and the woman in front of me was giving the poor 16 year old cashier a hard time about her coffee. All I could think of was that's someone's son loved by his family --he doesn't deserve that. I made sure I was the nicest, sweetest customer he had! Lol

There are people who think being "realistic" about life means there's no room for kindness. I guess I don't want to be that kind of person.

    1. Isn't that sad - that especially adults have no clue? You are so right, a person could be having a really bad day and just doesn't have it in them to be all pleasant. No reason to be nasty back. Smile and be nice (it is hard sometimes) - it may just be what is needed.
I hear people at stores get nasty with the workers. It is not their fault that prices are up, or supplies are low. They just work there. People just don't think.
I think people like all of us see "realistic" as just the opposite.
I don't want to be thought of as a nasty person either.

    1. Nichole - last year I got a new one and a hedge trimmer - both Black and Decker. They have the same type charger - so I can have enough charge for a whole yard trim. I love the rechargeables.

    2. Nichole, hubs bought a De Walt this year, because that's what his other rechargeable tools are. He loves it! We're on an acre with native grasses and weeds that can get 4 ft. high by late summer. It has handled everything. Even the woody stuff.
