Weekly Wrap - Up 5/14

Happy Sunday.  Happy Mother's Day - whether momma to humans or furry babes!  Wishing you all a lovely day.
I hope this finds you all well and safe.    Praying that your problems are shrinking away and life is calm.

We have finally gotten spring/summer weather.  It has been warm and wonderful all week.  Yesterday they were calling for rain - well, not at my house.  I was about 5 miles from my house late yesterday afternoon and it poured like crazy - thunder and lightening.  Not a thing on radar!!!!!!!  Not a drop at my house!

A few pretties I need to get in pots!

This week:
  • Pulled a lot more weeds - easy going after the rains
  • Lots of laundry - started washing all the winter bedding from kitty house
  • Fixed my 'work' flip-flops.  They are a one piece molded sandal - there was a crack - so I super glued!
  • Mowed and trimmed the entire yard
  • Bought a couple plants to plant and a couple baskets (pre-made)
  • Did lots of easy meals this week - it was warm and I was busy - so easy it was
  • Trimmed all the bushes out back
  • The day I went out - I stopped at Kroger.  Got a couple deals.  Strawberries were 2 lbs. for 2.47,  personal size watermelon for 1.99, milk 1.29/1/2 gal. and got fresh corn 4 ears/$2 - got 2X points
  • Found a penny!
  • Went to my gr.gr. nephews 9th birthday party.  Boy did he get a haul!  Great being with family
  • Just a lot of yard work - enjoying the outside
  • Windows open and airing house

Meals this past week:
Leftover cauliflower/carrots/cheese, brat on bun
Bean a rice tostadas
Leftover rice & beans and salad
Chicken strip and veggie sub (of sorts) - on hotdog bun
Baked potato w/cheese, bacon, ranch
Sausage sandwich and fruit
Pizza at my nephews party

Still haven't seen a hummingbird - usually first of June here.  I sighted the first groundhog in my yard on Thursday.  I set the live trap on Saturday morning and Blackie decided to mark this yard as his territory and I haven't seen the groundhog since.  We will see!

How has your week been?  I hope all of those having bad days - can smile today.  Did anyone get any great deals?  Getting that garden or plants planted?  Deals?
I hope you all have had a good week.
May your week ahead, be lovely, safe and may you stay healthy.

Blessings from my humble little home to you and yours.

Cast all your anxieties on him, for he cares about you.  Be sober, be watchful.  Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.  Resist him, firm your faith, knowing that the same experience of suffering is required of your brotherhood throughout the world.  After you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, establish, and strengthen you.  To him be the dominion for ever and ever.  Amen
1 Peter 5:7-11

Lord, I know I and others need these words this week.  The devil has tried to catch us many times, and we must resist and turn our worries and anxieties to You.  We have so much and are so blessed, compared to many.  Help us to calm our spirits and know that You have control.  Amen

  1. Excellent devotional! Folks need to be fully aware of satan's work. Speak the name of our Messiah and he will flee from you.

Can't tell you exactly what we did this week except pull weeds. ha! We got a bit of rain last night so I think I'll work on the path in one of the flower beds. Stuff should come up pretty easy.

Erin is working today but she'll stop by after her shift and then come on Friday for a late lunch.

    Enjoy your day!

    1. Thanks - it sure hit me fully. I tend to let the devil reach in now and then and then I remember God has this!
Still no rain here yet. Glad you got a little. I makes for easy pulling.
Have a wonderful day and enjoy your week!

  2. Spring is a busy time of year. There are 2 fencing projects in the works, one at my mom's property. Wire fences have a life span of ~ 30-40 yrs & that time has come. I'm working on a corral project on my property using portable free-standing panels. Like many projects, the prep work is more problematic than the actual work. I keep telling myself that it will all get done in the end. There's a line in an Alan Jackson song - it won't take too long, it will just take money! In the middle of it all, I've discovered that I've got an irregular heart beat so have been having some medical appts around that. And yet I feel relatively fine. I thought I would escape my family's medical history. We enjoyed a Mothers' Day tea at the supportive living residence where my mom lives. My sister joined us & with some encouragement, mom agreed to go & enjoyed it. After one day of wood splitting, we've taken the week off to do other things. I cut grass yesterday for the first time & today I will plant the garden. I'm looking forward to making a green house run in the coming week. Meals this week: quinoa salad; BLT; hot dog; BBQ pork with potato salad, roasted carrots. Happy Mothers' Day to all.

    1. You have been busy! Yes indeed, if those big projects take up a lot of time or get to be too much - money will take care of it!!!! I am starting to learn and letting loose of a little of it!!
Hope you don't have any major problems with the heartbeat.
Glad you convinced mom to have tea - how lovely for you all to be together.
      Your meals sound so good.
      Have a wonderful week!

  3. Happy Mother's Day to everyone!
We are having high temps here which is good. We got our garden in yesterday. Today we are mowing the yards.
I love the scripture, a nice reminder to always pay attention.

    1. Hoping you have a grand mother's day. My garden still isn't in - but it will be soon! Glad your temps are where it is safe to plant and enjoy the yard.
Thanks - the scripture kind of spoke to me - I didn't have my proudest moments this week. Let a thing or two get to me - should have just let God handle it.
Have a blessed and beautiful week!

  4. We saw a hummingbird in our yard yesterday! I was so excited. I don't see them every year and usually not this early. My husband had repaired the fountain in our backyard and it was flying around it. I think it wanted a drink! But after several minutes it gave up. I'd never seen one hang around that long except at Pikes Peak State Park in Iowa.

    1. Oh you lucky!!! I just find them such a joy. I have seen them fly around fountains in the mist - like they are bathing. I can't wait to see my first of the year. I always anticipate that!
      Have a great week.

  5. Happy Mother's Day everyone! Cheryl, 4 years ago over an office chair on wheels slide out from under me as I was reaching over to pick up something and my left femur was fractured in 3 places and my hip as well. I had emergency surgery and my life changed forever. The reason I mention this is that the scripture you quoted today is the very one that a precious nurse , who had had a disease that could have been fatal for her was prayed it many times a day and she recovered, and she encouraged me to pray it as well. To this day we continue .
It was a busy week here. The weather has gotten warm enough to start hardening the seedlings. The deck and deck furniture got washed, finished and sent out Mother's Day cards, did an OTC stock up. Meals this week were: turkey sandwiches and salads, homemade eggrolls made with rice paper and cooked in the air fryer and home made fried rice, pork chops, caulimash and airfried carrot sticks, leftover roast chicken salad and sweet potato, steak, salad, and green beans, Cookie

Sounds like you had a very busy and productive week. Your meals sound so good. I made fried rice today. I have some sliced turkey in the freezer - hmmm - there is an idea for this week. Thanks.
Hope you have a great week.

  6. Cheryl,
Your choice of Bible verses truly resonates with me and I thank you for that.
It has been a busy week for me also, we did get some rain yesterday. Enough to keep me from mowing until maybe tomorrow, but it's okay. We needed the rain and the grass isn't going anywhere LOL.
I am north of you and have seen several hummingbirds. I also made an oriole feeder, Hoping they come back..
Garden plowed/tilled and ready for planting. Meals from home and easy at that.
Hope all have a wonderful Mothers Day.

  7. Happy Mother's Day! Give Blackie a chin scratch from me. :-)

Poppy has kept us up the past few nights, so this morning at o'dark thirty, I got busy in the kitchen. From the oven: fudge sheet cake with mini chocolate chips and whipped white frosting plus 3 dozen sugar cookies with sprinkles. In my crockpot (for dinner later) a seasoned beef roast with baby potatoes and baby carrots.

Thank you for the verses and prayer. They hit the mark for me right now. From the advertised deals I mentioned earlier this week, we got a few things. 6 lbs. of b/s chicken breast went into the crock pot for chicken verde that then got shredded and divided into 6; 5 vacuum sealed bags went into the freezer. I made a meal for 2 nights with one adding noodles and spinach. Otherwise quick meals this week. Hot dogs twice. My excuse is the puppy.

In a very cheerful, positive way yesterday, I let BIL know he's expected to move out of here as soon as his house closes this week. I mentioned a very nice Best Western hotel near where he'll be if he doesn't feel ready to move in. I told him it's so exciting that he can move in, get settled, and start making a million dollars, now that he's no longer encumbered by the folks.

Hope all here have a fabulous day doing whatever makes you happy! --Elise

    1. P.S. I've mentioned my mom has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and lives with my Sis halfway across the country. Mom was very clear headed when I spoke to her on the phone the other day. Sis just emailed a pic of the card she got from mom this morning that reads, "Mom, you are the best and I love you the most. Love, A." So, mom thinks Sis is her mother today. Prayers appreciated for my Sis. I'm sure some of you can relate. --Elise

Glad you spoke up. Stick to your guns!!!!
Oh how sad with your mom. I am sure she is happy - but your sis. That would be so hard to handle. I am so thankful I never had to experience that with my folks. That has to be a tough one.
Prayers for your sis to get through it all.

  10. Here in SW PA, our hummingbirds and orioles have been back for a couple of weeks. The orioles nested last week, leaving their pieces of dried grass in the jelly in my feeder when they stopped for a bite. Feeding hummers, too.
Today is gorgeous, but it is to go down to 39F Wed night, so no planting tender plants until at least after that. I accidently killed two of my four tomato plants trying to transplant them into larger pots because they were dying in the small pots. Oh well, guess I'll have to buy a couple to make up the difference. The cukes are blooming in the house, and the zukes are getting big. Need to figure out where to plant the sunflowers. I hope to get everything in in the next week or so, weather permitting.
I'm feeling calmer today than recent days, despite a sleepless night filled with anxiety. Talked to my mother this morning, and she shared caregiver advice. Husband's BP is still all over the place, and he is experiencing weakness and trouble walking. I will be contacting the replacement doctor tomorrow morning to see if he wants to increase Husband's BP medication. I also need to track down his former doctor at the new practice and find out how soon we can transfer. Bad timing for a transition.
Eye doctor appt. this week, and I'm hoping I can get new glasses. These frames are the wrong size and hurt my nose and ear, and the prescription is outdated. I have an extremely narrow face, so I'll be lucky if they have any frames to fit that will take the progressive lenses I need.
Happy Mother's Day to all those who nuture!

Mommas help! I am glad you got to talk to Mom and it sounds like she gave good advice. The BP thing can surely cause the other problems. Good plan on reaching out to both docs. Hope you can come up with a good plan.
I hate getting new glasses. I got them after surgery, and only wear them for close up - otherwise nothing seems quite right. I hope you get good ones that fit and do you good.
I hope it turns out to be a wonderful week.

Hello everyone and Happy Mother's Day!! I'll be honest. I'm hoping that this will relax me into a nap lol. I'm so tired and I'd love a little catnap.

You'll be happy to know that my market receipt was correct today! We went to the market after church. The floral section is right at the door and it was a mob scene! The smell was delicious and the flowers were so beautiful. Alas, I was just there to get groceries. I ran out of a lot of stuff this week so it was a longer trip. Found some pork loin on sale for $1.99#. I bought two of them. I cut one into
2 pcs. And froze those. I sliced the other one and cooked 15 loin pcs. with 4 baked potatoes. Those will be a great addition to our freezer stock. Okay, it's nap time. See you in a bit! 😴

  14. Thank you, Cheryl, for the Bible verse. Happy Mother's Day to all of you! My oldest daughter hosted Mother's Day at her house on Saturday. We saw 2 hummingbirds at her house! On Sunday my husband helped me plant my new perennials and herbs.

I got a good deal on mushrooms so made some Hungarian Mushroom soup. I shopped the markdowns at Meijer and found baby kale, a kale salad kit, and spinach. I originally went in for lettuce for salads this week but it will be kale and spinach instead. I got a raincheck at Jewel for strawberries for 99 cents a pound so will go back later for those. I only buy the loss leaders at Jewel. Have a wonderful week!

  16. That verse is perfect for me this week, and the prayer...Yes, perfect.

You give little Blackie some pets from me, and tell him that Momo, Howdy and Elbee say "Hey". : )

Happy Mother's day to you dear Cheryl. You are like that special teacher some may have had who takes a special interest in her kids, young and old. You've got that special touch. A Gift and Blessing to many!

My mom fainted yesterday at the Greek restaurant we took her to, she was nerved up and became overheated outside. Long story. Not fun to have an ambulance join for Mother's day. Nightmare city. Our sweet family of four daughters and three son in laws were there and sooooo sweet and helpful. I gotta hand it to my pastor son in law...He knows just what to do with the elderly, even medically and is on our page with things. One of my other son in laws knows just how to comfort me, we have the same infp personality. My other older son in law is one of those mature wise ones, very watchful and sweet, he's the newbie of the family and he's learning the ways of this southern family. ; ) My mom is okay thank the good Lord. It's a shame, I had such plans for Mother's day and thought she was going to love that restaurant getting out a bit. When we sat down at the outside table we thought it would be fine in the shade. It was not.

God is good, and we all share in our goings on with one another wisely. So nice to be able to do that.

God's blessings to all, love that scripture and prayer...Yes ma'am. ~Amelia

  18. Some GOOD news this Monday. First of all, it's a mild, sunny morning. Rain is expected all week. I corralled youngest son and BIL to help Hubs get gravel down in areas with loose soil (where the re-grading was done) yesterday afternoon. Three makes for faster work than one. I'll get some fertilizer out around the lilacs and daylilies today; the lilacs are showing the first buds of bloom! BIL has his walk through of his soon-to-be house at 5pm and escrow will close tomorrow. He'll move out Wednesday. And I had enough store cash accumulated to buy a Instant Pot for $8.95 shipping this morning. Woo-hoo!!
