Happy Sunday to all and happy last Sunday in February! Oh soon, it will be March and then Spring and then.......
It is a very lovely sunny morning. It was actually in the 20's this morning - that is a first in a while. Temps are going to warm up for most of the week, and even our nightly lows are to be above the freezing point! YAY! Will it last? Oh, I am sure there is colder weather in the forecast, maybe even snow, but each day is just one closer to lovely weather - so I am happy.
The daylight hours are much longer now. That is really nice.
Bitsy has reconnected with his toys this week. He hasn't played with his froggy in a few months. Now he is flipping it all around and has been playing "get ya" with me! Such a sweety.
- Used some stale hotdog buns in a couple different ways. I made individual pizza with a couple and cooked in the air fryer. I used one for garlic toast
- Early in week, I needed to unfreeze the car doors. It had melted some and refroze and was really froze up. I used isopropyl alcohol - squirted on the door edges, waited a couple minutes and Wahla, they opened easily. Alcohol doesn't freeze solid, so it works
- Shoveled a couple times - so free exercise
- Paid bills by phone
- I cleaned under the hutch, fridge and oven - all things I can't move. Me laying on the floor, a flashlight, a yardstick and a damp rag. It got them all cleared out - oh, the dust bunnies were thick!
- I ran out to another luncheon with high school mates. Sat with some different people I didn't know as well - and that was fun. I answered a cooking question one had, and then there was an impromptu cooking class taking place! They just kept asking me questions, most of which I could answer. I got to be teacher for an hour or so - lol! It was kind of a nice way to get acquainted.
- While out - I stopped at Vet to pick up Blackie's cremains. 💔
- I also stopped at Kroger and got Bits some treats and got the strawberries that were on sale. 1.88/lb. for gorgeous, sweet Florida berries. Ran all errands on the one day out.
Will use the containers for something else - probably planting seeds/mini greenhouse
- I used leftover rice to make a couple stove top enchiladas - worked fine. I got out a pint of homemade tomato sauce - used half to make enchilada sauce and used to other half to make a big glass of tomato juice! Yum
- Used orange peels to start a bottle of citrus cleaner
- I froze some leftover enchilada sauce and even froze some leftover rice and refried beans
- Froze 2 containers of the broc/caul/cheese soup
- Also got gas for Blazer while out - 2.39/gal. That was my Feb. fill-up - needed about a half of tank
- I used leftovers and did all normal household stuff - working on starting some deep cleaning
- Talked with sis a lot this week - she is starting to improve. Still has the cough, but feeling much better
Meals this past week:
Cheesy broccoli/cauliflower soup and crackers - homemade
'Bun" pizza - all things from fridge
Leftover cheesy soup and garlic toast
Dirty rice w/beef and salad
Stove top enchiladas
Out to lunch
Fish and fries (in air fryer) and side salad
Nothing real exciting, just hanging out and doing a bit of this and that. My mind is thinking to spring for sure. I am so ready to porch sit and play in the dirt. This next week, as things thaw - we will be entering 'mud' season for a while. That is ok with me.
How has your week been? Are you getting to have a little warmer weather soon as well? Did you get any deals this week?
Stop by and say hello!
Have a great week ahead and stay safe and healthy. Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home!

I'm ready for spring weather too. We woke up to nineteen degrees here today, so naturally I have the heat on today. That is a good tip about the alcohol and your car door. Our back door had a big chunk of ice fall off the other day when we opened it even though I have a draft dodger in front of it and hang a warm cost on the door knob.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Bitsy is playing with her toys once again. I'm sure it helps with missing Blackie. Your lunch with the high school mates sounds fun!
Spring will be here soon. Well, I see so many people pour hot water on their doors and windows and I cringe every time. I figured a lot of the anti-freeze things have alcohol in them - so tried it. It is cheap and works great.
DeleteBitsy is finding new things to do again - and talking A LOT is one of them!! LOL
It was a fun afternoon.
Have a great week - hope you warm up!
It feels like spring here after a few weeks of -20-30C with windchills of -40. This past week, temps have risen to 0C, such a relief from the cold. I've been out walking again. The freezer has been defrosted & I'm on a mission of eating down the frozen preserves; lots of shredded zucchini to turn into muffins, chocolate zucchini cake. The mattress was turned & the bedrm got a good vacuuming. The tarp covering the woodpile was tattered & I tended to that in the warm weather. Cleaned under the washer & dryer. Watched one of my granddaughters play ringuette in a tournament a few hrs away last w/e. Took hamburger soup to a friend who'd had both hips replaced. I'm of the age where many friends are having hip & knee replacements, cataract surgery. A sign of the times. Tax prep is well underway. In the kitchen: beet gazpacho; roast beef; fajitas; potato salad; smokies; chocolate zucchini cake. Have a good week, Cheryl.
ReplyDeleteGlad you have warmed so you can get outside.
DeleteWow, you have been busy. I need to start the bedroom today.
Nice of you to help those infirmed out. Yep, we are at that age - more and more people I know having corrective surgeries.
Your goodies all sound yum.
Have a super week.
As much as I am looking forward to spring, mud season with two dogs is going to be even worse this year as my yard is in such poor shape- lots of bald patches, so more mud. They're going to have to step in pans if water when they come in. I see your lunch out meant no dinner one day. I'm like that too. If I have a big lunch out, I generally can't eat another meal.
ReplyDeleteNever thought about that with doggies. Yep, wash and wipe their feet!!
DeleteI generally eat one meal a day - then a snack - so that was my meal. I could have eaten something later but just don't like eating very late in the day at all.
Have a great week.
"Let the negative stop with us." Well said! Lots of things going on now and lots of disagreements and animosity. Remember Who is in charge.
ReplyDeleteI had to smile at your account of "teaching" a cooking class. You probably helped some of the ladies rethink their cooking methods. Buns make dandy garlic bread, pizza, what have you.
Glad to hear that your sister is recovering. Bits sounds like he is getting along okay after the loss of his buddy.
We are happy to see longer days and the beautiful sunshine. The snow is almost all gone in the yard and it looks very soft and muddy. Looking forward to the warm temps this week. May even peg some laundry on the line.
After reading about the soups you had last week, I think we'll have a black bean soup one day this week, even if the temperatures will be warmer. Having salmon patties for lunch.
Enjoy your day!
We can only control us - so many things need to stop with ourselves. Yes, a much greater force is in charge.
DeleteI hope I helped, once I answered one question, all the gals at the table started asking. I kind of chuckled too. Most of them wouldn't have given me the time of day in high school!!
Bitsy is sitting at the door right now enjoying 'bird TV'. He is coming along.
I am so ready for the warmer temps. The sunshine just changes everything for me.
Soup is always good - no matter the weather. Samon sounds good.
Have a beautiful week.
I'm heading back into winter at the end of this week. Spring won't arrive until sometime in April, though we will have some days of melting before that. I'm definitely hoping for a slow melt as we had a lot of snow over the winter. In the meantime, I'm enjoying all the sun and heat here in Yuma.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing Bits is having to amuse herself a bit more. Cats are so much fun - even my Saku (almost 17) plays with toys every so often.
Oh gal, soak up all the heat and sunshine you can this week. It sure seems like your time there went quickly. Going home to winter will be bittersweet!
DeleteYes, kitties are just a joy. I get love, smiles and laughter all on top of companionship!
Have a lovely week and enjoy every moment!
So much sunshine after so many days of dreary blah.....I am loving it. Temps are going up slightly but I will take any improvement, bring it on. My neighbors yard is devoid of snow but because I live in a woods, mine is still mostly snow covered. If it continues to melt slowly, that will help with mud and ground water.
ReplyDeleteLots of piddly cleaning jobs done here, haven't shopped for about 3 weeks but running out of salad greens so tomorrow will pick some up while running a few errands.
I did remove the winter decor yesterday, cleaned and dusted before installing Easter decor/Spring. I desperately needed a change and shopping at home keeps me out of the stores. I have enough and that makes me feel "rich".
The extreme cold and dreariness makes me worry and more concerned for our local homeless population.
All meals from home, I can cook most anything available in restaurants and don't have to leave my "nest".
JC
Sunshine is always welcome - just a major mood changer. Back still has snow in it in areas, front is really melting. I still have a few 'smaller' piles - but it will be gone soon!
DeleteThose piddly jobs do add up. Seems I do a lot of those! I have my front and side door decor ready - I think I will wait until March to put up. Doors look so bare!
Love that it "makes you feel rich". What a super way to think of it!!! It is a blessing for sure. Home cooked is always so much better than restaurant in my opinion.
I worry too - I am so relieved that the temps are warming - it will give a bit of respite.
Have a blessed week.
Have followed your blog for years-its always encouraging & positive & that is much appreciated in these times. Those are the only types of blogs I will follow but I've never been good @ commenting. Appreciate too your spiritual encouragement-such an important element in our lives. And making & keeping a home is important work-just for our spirits & against the craziness in the world now. Thanks for sharing your day to day with us. So sorry you lost your Blackie. We've had to let go of 1 dog & 4 cats over the years-such painful loses but we have another cat now & so glad you have Bits. In spite of the pain of losing them you do want to open up to another pet. They are such good company. So glad Spring is coming but stay warm until it gets here-always unsettled weather until its officially here. Here in Western Colorado our winters are quite temperate -we've only had a few inches of snow & some rain all winter here in the valley but thankfully the mountains around us have gotten alot of snow. We hope we get a little more snow yet. But bulbs are already popping up & trees & the roses are budding. So it will be here soon! Have a blessed day.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you stopped by to comment. Thank you for following along. I try to keep things upbeat - as I don't like the negative stuff either. That can be found anywhere - positive not so much.
DeleteOur homes are our sanctuaries, and we need to be mindful of all those things.
Thank you. I feel comfort in knowing Blackie had a really good last year or so and got peace and love. It is very hard to let go - they are just so precious. When we love and lose someone or something - we hurt. Sure sign of love!
Hopefully the mountain snow melt-off will help the valleys and the streams and rivers. I have seen some areas out there that received a lot of snow. Oh goodness, it does sound like spring is popping it's way open already.
Thanks for being here, and please comment any time. I love to have new folks pop in.
Have a lovely week.
A tip for Kroger shoppers--you can change your location(store you shop at in your app)to find better digital coupons in other areas. I did that this week to get the $1.88 price strawberries and the $1.49 price Zero Sugar 2 Liter Dr. Pepper, as both were more here this week. If you do this make sure you unclip the coupon for the same item in your area. As long as the coupon doesn't say "only for XX region/city" this will work. 8-))
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip. I have heard others say the same thing. I was lucky, as mine had the strawberries on sale!
DeleteHave a good week.
Sounds like a pretty good week Cheryl. Your menu always sounds delicious. It was a cold, snowy week here but the temps will be in the 50s this week. I hope most of this snow melts in a day or two so I can go run my Jeep through the carwash. It took a beating this week. February is strawberry season in Florida and I was glad to find them here this week too. Our local season is May so I'll get to enjoy them again. Have a great Sunday!!
ReplyDeleteIt was a decent week. Thanks - I just fix whatever sounds good on any given day!
Delete50's will be like summer! I would like to do the carwash again too - and I really need to go get the oil and fluids checked.
The berries are just beautiful and tasty. May is our time too. Super price too!
Have a lovely week.
I'm glad Bitsy seems to be doing okay. It looks like 50s all week, I am so ready for it. The past week has been tornado warning, flood warning, winter storm warning, freeze warning (-1°F when I got up one morning). Still some flooded back roads and snow around so hopefully it'll clear up soon.
ReplyDeleteNot much frugal wise this week. No school or speech therapy so saved on gas but means the oldest was here for breakfast and lunch so more food used. I only went out once yesterday to do a pickup order and broke my windshield wiper when I was cleaning the ice off, but it was needing replaced anyway. They didn't give me two bottles of juice I ordered so I requested a refund on those and got it. I did find a good deal on a pair of shoes online for the oldest. I dropped a box full of books off when I was out and picked up a few. The husband said he was craving a burger so I did do a fast food run, but used the app to get everything cheaper. I ordered nighttime pullups for the toddler at Target as they had the cheapest price and I had $10 in rewards from a previous purchase. I used up all produce before it went bad.
I had a friend mention how cold Florida was the other day - 40's and 50's. I told her people will be wearing shorts here when that happens. True story!!!
DeleteI hope you get warmed up and all melted.
No school - I bet the kiddos were happy. Being mindful while out is good and checking those grocery orders. Good job.
Funny you mentioned wipers. I had one come off the day I was cleaning ice - it didn't break and I figured out how to get it back on. YAY
Sounds like a good week to me. Have a super week ahead.
I'm glad your sister is doing better.
ReplyDeleteI hope to make the most of the warmer weather this week. Although our spring is months awhile away such reprieve is enough to help me get through the next 2-3 months.
Thank you!
DeleteI think we all need to make the best of the warm days - I am sure winter isn't done with us yet! Yes mam, it is always nice to get that sampling of spring, if only for a few days.
Have a great week.
So happy to hear Bitsy is interested in the toys again. I'm sure not having Blackie around is tough. Still thinking of you and Bitsy. We've had a couple days in the 40's and it feels like a heat wave compared to the deep freeze we have been in! I am definitely looking forward to Spring.
ReplyDeleteThanks - we are making a new routine for sure.
DeleteToday is supposed to get to 40's so looking forward to the next few days. Enjoy it!
Have a beautiful week.
