Helping

It costs nothing to be a kind and good person.  It costs little to help a family have a hot meal.
We should be aware year round, but it seems to come to our attention even more around the holiday season.  So many have NOTHING.  So many go hungry.  So many are homeless.  So many have NO ONE to listen or turn to.
Let us all be the someone who does SOMETHING.

I love this idea.  If we each put back something each and every day - it does not hurt us at all - but will fill the bellies of another.

If we would ALL do this EVERY month - it would sure help our fellow man.
Thank you.

  1. I love to help with our food and clothing pantry at our church. Every week when I do the laundry, if there is something that no longer fits, or looks the way I want it to, into a bag it goes to go. If I buy a couple of things (canned, bagged or boxed) each week and donate them, I know they are going directly to those who can use them. What do I buy - well, peanut butter, tuna, pancake mix and syrup are staples that all the food pantries ask for. I also try to pick up loss leaders, and add rice, dry/canned beans, noodles and pasta sauce, canned pasta and sauce (beef-a-roni/spaghettios), and cereal. I will only buy oatmeal unless I can get boxes/bags for $1 or less (Dollar Tree is good for this). I like to add spices sometimes too, bland food is filling, but not always tasty. A small can of jalapenos, or a container of cinnamon (both less than a dollar at grocery stores, or the dollar store) can help "brighten" up a meal and a person's day. A can of fruit can be just the right thing to make someone feel good. Always check the clearance too - you never know what you can get for little, that is just what someone else needs.

    1. Thank you so much for what you do. You have always been an advocate of the under dog.
I know you don't do it for thanks - you do just because you have a good heart.
      Thanks!

  2. Our local thrift store The Resale Barn has a food bank attached to it. All donations like clothing and home goods go into the thrift store where they're sold and turned into money to support the food bank. Items of food can be donated to the food bank too of course, but having the money from the sales allows the food bank to buy exactly what's needed. They have raised over $3 million dollars of charitable aid via their little thrift store! I hope everyone will consider finding a local charity thrift store that focuses on the local needs of your neighbors instead of going with the large corporate ones who spend a lot of their income on salaries for top executives.

    1. How fantastic! $3 million - it shows what can be done if we all work together.

we have one here that I love and frequent (2 locations). They support , feed, and clothe ANYONE in need. I donate all non-food to them and you can also donate food. They give whatever food and health supplies they can to those who walk in and are in need.
It is a Christian backed organization and the church helps as well.
It is the only place I donate now!
Thank you and that Resale Barn for all you do.

    3. Thanks Debby. Yes, a wonderful family project. We need to teach children early that all is not roses in the world.

    1. Christmas is hard on many levels for a lot of people. I think if we can offer a little bit of 'love' in some form to someone - it will go a long way.
      Blessings
