It Is All About Perspective

I saw this story on FB and it really resonated with me.  What is poor?  What is rich?  Everyone has their own opinions and truthfully it is all a matter of perspective.

I have had people jokingly (I think) say "if I had your money - I'd...."  - I laugh.  I know we worked hard to have what there is now.  Diligently we worked to pay everything off and be debt free.  We invested some money and we saved.  I am in no way rich financially - but I am so very rich in other ways.  I am comfortable  and I have enough!  Enough is good.  I pay my bills and have some left.  I can help others when need be.  I am good.

I know people who have a ton of money, pay cash for everything and travel the world.  Glad for them - but are they truly happy?  I wonder sometimes.  Some people I know really covet money - and I don't think they are really aware of that.  But their world revolves around money - getting more - and never seeming to have enough.

We Are So Poor

One day a father and his rich family

took his son to a trip to the country
with the firm purpose to show him
how poor people can be.
They spent a day and a night
in the farm of a very poor family.
When they got back from their trip
the father asked his son,
"How was the trip?"
"Very good Dad!"
"Did you see how poor people can be?"
the father asked.
"Yeah!"
"And what did you learn?"
The son answered,
"I saw that we have a dog at home,
and they have four.
We have a pool that reaches
to the middle of the garden,
they have a creek that has no end.
We have imported lamps in the garden,
they have the stars. Our patio reaches
to the front yard, they have a whole horizon."
When the little boy was finishing,
his father was speechless.
His son added,
"Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are!"

I love this. Yes indeed, those country folks were rich. There is so much more to life than money. Health, family, friends, pets, home, food for the table, enough to take care of things, warmth.... all the basics we have come to take for granted.
Take some time to be thankful for your riches. They are far greater than your bank account and investments.
I am thankful for so much. I give my thanks to my creator every morning and every evening and sometimes many times in between. He really has blessed me in so many ways. I am thankful to have you all to share with and to learn with and from. You are part of my blessings.
Take care my friends. YOU ARE BLESSED

  2. That's great. During a training session at work some years ago we had to say how satisfied we were with our financial state. I said 100% much to everybody's amazement. They asked if I was a millionaire. I said I have no debts, enough to pay my bills and a bit over. They thought I wad mad. I thought they were.

  4. And, Cheryl, we are So blessed to have you! I jus read the story out loud to my husband. He smiled at the end. We are like you...have all we need plus extra to share...but far from wealthy. Very content!! Others wouldn't be satisfied with what we have...but I consider it Our Eden! God has been so good to us! Some days this old gal has to rethink and square herself away....but know I am living with a glass not only half full but overflowing.

    1. Glad you both appreciated it. Content says a lot! It doesn't just happen I think it is something we come to.
I agree - not half full but overflowing.

  5. Like you we worked hard to pay things off, and save. Now we have all that we need and even get a few wants thrown in every so often. Those wants are few though.

    God bless.

    1. I think we want less the happier we are. Hard work pays off.
I am glad you are good!

  6. That is so true-I think the less people have sometimes the happier they are...and I hate when people get caught up in trying to keep up -or outdo- someone else. I have seen that play out disastrously in an extended family member.
I hope you have a blessed rest of the week. xo Diana

    1. I think so too. When you take the time to appreciate the things money can't by - life is good. It doesn't take much.

  7. I LIVE in the country and that is my life. Just beautiful!! Happiness is in our hearts not our pocketbooks. If that is what makes you happy, you are SO much poorer than me. Thank you for a beautiful story and perspective during today's world.

    1. Amen! I think we all need a reminder of what is REAL and IMPORTANT. So many have got caught up in the nastiness of the world. We need to look at our hearts and not the news.

    1. Glad you liked it. Thank you.
Life is beautiful and should be enjoyed for what it is. Not what we think it should be.
