Change - Just Go With It

Change - people seem to hate it.  It is the one thing in life that we know will be constant.  Everything changes and always will.
I know people have hated this year in so many ways.

I guess I am more of glass half full kind of person.  I haven't minded staying home - I am kind of a loner anyway.  I still shopped some  and took little drives.  I work in my yard and around my house.  I take care of my animals.  I talk with family and friends.  I am OK.

I think people fail to look at the positive things.  Families have now been having meals together in the evening again.  Parents and kids are getting closer again.  People have learned to garden and can/freeze.  People have been learning to prep/stock (or hoard!).  Some have realized that they can get by on less.  Many have gotten a breather from work stress by working from home.  People seem to be getting more in touch with their religious and spiritual beliefs.  Many are being more helpful of others.  Folks are just enjoying that they got another day.  I think many are enjoying the simpler things in life again.
YES - I know lots of negative things have happened too - but I chose to focus on good.
Disappointments have happened - but so has promise.

I mentioned not seeing any Salvation Army buckets the other day (so glad many of you are).  After I originally noticed that - I got a post of FB from my high school group about helping the community.  There is a fellow who graduated a couple years before me - that has been doing a lot.  I found out the other day - he has been going strong to feed and help in any way possible for ages, but especially this year.  What I didn't know about him (and it doesn't matter) is that he has been paralyzed from the waste down and in a chair for years.  He goes all the time and helps so many in the community.  So inspiring.
Well, I figured I would help the local area this year and helped him and his cause.
He makes sure people get food every week (they have drive through food p/u's), he gives gift cards when he can, and gives clothes and toys for Christmas.
He is that LIGHT I needed when I felt disappointment about the bell ringers being gone.
We can all do something for others and I truly believe we get more out of it than the recipient does.
You don't even have to leave your house - just reach out and do a little bit.
Be the LIGHT that someone else needs.

I found out my eldest sibling (sis) tested positive for the virus.  She is doing pretty good so far.  She is pretty healthy except for "old arthur" for being 89 years young.  Needless to say our sibling Christmas get together is being postponed from this coming Sunday to next month  sometime. (there would have just been 4 of us there).
Sure I was disappointed - but I will get over that.  It doesn't matter when we sit and break bread and share a gift or two - it just matters that we can talk to each other and say 'I love you'.  The LIGHT.

I am having my second Christmas without Glen.  Sure, I miss him terribly and I am lonely.  BUT - I know where he is and that he is healthy and happy.  I also know he would want me to go forward and do things to honor him and our life together.  That is what I intend on doing.
I want to honor his LIGHT in my life.

Life deals us so many disappointments and so much sadness and many stressful moments - but it also deals us happiness, birth and joy and beauty.  We just need to be observant.  Look around - listen - pay attention - take in all the tiny things as well as the big ones.

I choose to look at 2020 as the YEAR OF CHANGE.  Some good and some bad.  I look forward to see what next year has to offer.  You know so much of what WILL happen or COULD happen is strictly UP TO YOU AND ME!!!!!!!!!
We decide how to react - how to live - how to slow down - how to have fun - how to observe our faith - how to love one another.
Make sure you decide to LIVE - maybe differently - BUT LIVE TO THE FULLEST!

You woke this morning - you received a gift.  The best gift.
Honor that gift each and every day the best way that you can.
You have the choice - make it good.  Be the LIGHT.
Blessings to you all!

  2. I agree with you, Cheryl! This year has been full of positives. It is so important to be more observant. As our lives have gotten fuller and more busy we are less likely to notice the small things. Thanks for the inspiring post! Have a great day.

    1. Thank you. Sometimes I think God tells us to shut-up and slow down just so we will notice the little things.
      Thanks for being here.

  3. I'm with you. I (luckily) retired July 2019 and committed to a low-stress, low-demand lifestyle after 39 years in healthcare and the demands of leadership. So does Covid affect my life? Well, my 2 quilting groups do not meet monthly and hubster and I rarely eat in a restaurant which we both love. Hubster is work-from-home since March so we are both healthy and at very low risk of exposure.

I'm with you. Life is filled with Blessings for us.

    1. Glad you got to retire when you did. Sure there are things we would like to do, but we survived. So happy you are healthy and at low risk.
We just need to look around a little and we find all kinds of blessings.
      Take good care

    1. We sure will. Life gets so busy sometimes, that we forget a simple meal with family is precious.
I pray she continues to re-cooperate.

    1. Thank you. Yes mam, we do. I have been called a Pollyanna before, but that is OK - if I can help remind someone of good things - it is worth it.
      Take care!

  9. About a week ago I became so angry at all the negative comments on Facebook that I decided to show people there was still so much we could do in order to keep this holiday. I have learned so much about myself from those few good morning posts that I think I will keep it going for as long as this weird world we find ourselves in lasts. Moving forward with positivity certainly does change our outlooks.

    God bless.

  12. I couldn't have said it better myself Cheryl!
Certainly there is some frustration and some sadness but most people I know have now come around to your way of thinking - being grateful for what they do have and trying to reach out to others.
My Church has been able to maintain two feeding programs (following all protocols) and we have had to turn away volunteers - there have been so many offers of help. One volunteer has made 450 cloth gift bags for our Christmas gift give-away and donations of clothing are piled up the stairway of one church tower (we quarantine them for 10 days before going through them) and funds have arrived regularly to keep things going. People have been amazing.

Best wishes for a swift recovery for your sister - stay safe.

  13. I am having my fourth Christmas without my beloved. But like you I know he is well and happy and so I continue. I feel positive and am a half full glass type person like you and use this time as a learning experience. And like you, I feel more families are drawing closer and have less stress. We have become a society of commercializm and need to get back to what really matters. I have always canned, had a pantry, did my own cooking, etc, so none of this has bothered me. But it has given me time to work on my crafts and enjoy the sewing room my husband so lovingly made for me. Being ungrateful is not healthy. We must all be happy in our own way. Life is different but not unlivable. Be thankful for the small things. And take care of what you can and leave the rest go. This is why I read your blog. You continue to inspire me. Thank you!!!

    1. Thank you so much for your wonderful words. I am sorry you are without your beloved as well. I know there are several of us out there.
You are so right - ungrateful is NOT healthy. We all need to make the most of what we have - no matter how much or how little. It is ours and we should be thankful. I thank God every morning for a new beginning and new opportunities.
Stress and worry do nothing but make us miserable. I choose happy.
So glad to have so many like minded people here. Thanks for your inspiring words.

  16. What a wonderful, upbeat post. There is truly value and beauty in each day and it is up to us to uncover it. Just opening our eyes and being able to sit up and put our feet on the floor is a huge blessing; we are given the chance every morning to make a difference where we are. Wishing for you and yours a joyous holiday season.

  21. I am so sorry to hear your sister tested positive. I hope she recovers from it quickly.

In my previous comment I meant to say that I have not seen the Salvation Army here, but they are out in Terre Haute, but I don't know if there are as many.

I can not imagine how you miss Glen...I sure do. All during Thanksgiving week, I thought about him so much. He had such a good heart.

I think we get more than we give when we help others, too. Also I think taking time to think about our many blessings helps.

    1. Thanks - she is doing well. It hard missing someone so much and it sure gets lonely - but he is always with me in my heart. Not the same - but what I have. You guys always had such nice long talks. He had a great heart - always helping someone in some way.
I think that is what keeps me going - just trying to do a little of that.
